@KizboBaggins canโ€™t speak for anyone else but Iโ€™m wearing liners as I seem to be making all my pants wet with discharge - have been for about 10-15 weeks if Iโ€™m honest. Was getting to the point where I was worrying I was leaking amniotic fluid, but no no, itโ€™s just a lovely side effect of pregnancy ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Lianna93 · 26/05/2022 20:09

@KizboBaggins Yup - discharge for me! ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚ Sometimes I feel like I've peed myself but it's literally just discharge ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜‚ Learnt the hard lesson at work a while ago - wore grey leggings & a lacy thong. Had a wee mishap & it was very visible through the leggings so I've been strictly full coverage pants, dark colours & liners ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

@KizboBaggins yep discharge for me too! @HotToddyColdSauvignon I thought it was leaking fluid at one point or peeing myself

KizboBaggins · 26/05/2022 20:32

@HotToddyColdSauvignon @ChinChilly oh wow, I've had some discharge but not enough for panty liners yet. I would've been the same worrying about fluid leaking HotToddy!

@strawberrysummer19 yes I'm starting to waddle a bit now too, I do occasionally feel him lower down but it's rare, so I was surprised his head is down there! He's been that way for over 3 weeks now... he better not be preparing an early exit. I'm not ready!

I spoke to the midwife about dummies today. I read online (on NCT I think) that they can be positive for preventing SIDS. Midwife said that's only really the case if the baby is in NICU, and that if I'm going to bf I should avoid dummies cause of nipple confusion... so idk what to do. Does anyone have any thoughts on them? I'm probably overthinking it. I'm sure dummies will be the least of my worries once he's here ๐Ÿ˜…

strawberrysummer19 · 26/05/2022 20:48

Has anyone has thrush ?

It's been a nightmare - sure mine is back ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I ordered a test for thrush kit on Amazon as it was next day delivery and quicker than calling GP or midwife
It's just come and the little swab is horrid and sharp ! My bits are so sore and swollen ( I googled it and it said it's normal but also could be thrush !) The swab came out with blood on it ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌpanicked but it's definitely where it has nicked me - no blood since and now don't know if I have thrush or not?!

I used a pessary about a month ago after the cream wasn't clearing it up so used a pessary and went away - had uti beforehand and then thrush so finally able to have sex - had sex and then was so sore the next day ! So it's bought thrush back !

No more sex for me

But I have a right problem getting pessaries
So have to send fiancรฉ again as they won't let me have them but surely they are ok and it's the only thing that clears it up

Feel like it's been constant ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Hope3821 · 26/05/2022 22:10

@ChinChilly yeh normally would live on ibuprofen when I've got the cold! My sinuses are so bad, constant headache coz of them!

@KizboBaggins yeh I've been wearing panty liners for ages now for discharge. Just the small thin ones. Used to wear them a lot even before pregnancy, I prefer the extra safety ๐Ÿ˜…

@strawberrysummer19 that sounds really uncomfortable! never really dealt w thrush too much. It does sound like sex aggravates it for you? Hope it clears๐Ÿคž

In terms of movement, I generally only feel it at the sides coz I've got anterior placenta. My midwife said that's normal, with AP not to feel front or top movement even if she was head down bc the placenta is like a cushion. Booked on homebirth so really hoping in the later weeks I feel her move down too๐Ÿคž

SamanthaVimes · 26/05/2022 22:27

@KizboBaggins Im fairly sure that nipple confusion isnโ€™t a thing (although bottle preference is if youโ€™re mixed feeding as thatโ€™s to do with the flow of milk)

The issue with dummies is that they can mask early feeding cues and because they reduce non-nutritive sucking at the breast they can impact supply for some people.

Some people bf and use dummies and have no problems, other people find it negatively affects their feeding because it leads to reduced supply (as baby doesnโ€™t feed as often / does less flutter sucking)

I think the official guidance is to wait til 6 weeks to introduce one so that supply is properly established but bear in mind some babies never take to them. I tried to offer DD a dummy at about 8 weeks as the doctor suggested it might help her reflux and she was having none of it. Completely refused and I just gave up in the end as she obviously didnโ€™t want it.

Sometimes itโ€™s been annoying that she wonโ€™t take one as I think it would have helped with naps etc but on the bright side I havenโ€™t had to take it away so pros and cons!

KizboBaggins · 26/05/2022 22:52

@SamanthaVimes that's genuinely been way more helpful than anything my midwife has ever said to me, so thank you!

I was inclined not to use dummies anyway, mainly because I don't want to have to go through the rigmarole of getting rid of it later down the line, and what you've said has just reinforced that. The reducing chance of SIDS thing doesn't seem to be statistically important enough to use them. So I'm going to try not to use one, at least at first until I've (hopefully) established solid breastfeeding.

ShellUK09 · 26/05/2022 23:01

@HotToddyColdSauvignon discharge here too and I had exactly the same thoughts as you about leaking fluid and spent time on Google... Will ask about it at midwife appt but I'm sure it is a normal pregnancy discharge. Glad it's a common thing anyway!

Just got a packet of dummies today, I'll try anything that might help baby to sleep. It'll be trial and error with lots of things initially for me though

SamanthaVimes · 27/05/2022 07:23

@KizboBaggins youโ€™re welcome! DD was a pandemic baby so I had lots of time to research last time round ๐Ÿ˜…Iโ€™ve turned into a bit of a breastfeeding information nerd (despite having no intention to breastfeed post the first couple of feeds initially!)

beetree1 · 27/05/2022 09:35

Just catching up with you all, hope you're all doing well. Anyone else just can't sleep at night anymore. I had to take the day off yesterday as I only had 2 hours sleep and I felt so ill in the morning. I've only got 4 more shifts at work after today though. I can't wait!

Going back to the pads talk... I brought disposable pants last time and never used them. They felt horrible and I didn't see how they were any easier. I just used big pants from Primark with maternity pads for the first few weeks. This time I've brought the Aldi incontinence pants and maternity pads as well as usual pants. I think I'll use the incontinence pants with a pad straight after birth as last time I had epidural went to 'bed' at night after birth in the hospital and I had leaked everywhere. I felt so embarrassed and bad for the assistant who had to change my bed even though I know they're use to it. I think because I couldn't feel my legs still over night and had been fitted with a catheter I didn't realise how much I was bleeding and that I needed to change. After that though it didn't seem any worse than a heavy period for me I just changed more.

@deliwoman1 I just wanted to add that I was very nervous with my first, I hate not knowing what's happening and not being in control. I found what helped me was hypnobirthing. I did the Positive Birth Company online course and although bits like the affirmations weren't for me I really loved the science section where it goes into detail about how your body is literally built to birth the baby and the process it goes through. They also have a private facebook group which you can join when you get the course and its full of positive birthing stories and really calmed me down. I'm still in the group now and I've been reading all the posts again to keep me chilled. What's nice is they haven't all got a text book birth but it just proves that even when things don't go to plan you can still have a positive birth. I find people love to tell you negative things during pregnancy but don't always tell you the positive.

@KizboBaggins I've brought some mam dummies for the baby. I didn't have any with my first but when I was in hospital they actually gave my daughter one to help practicing her suckling as it took us a while to get in the swing of things. I used them ever since and breast fed her for a year and never had any issues. She definitely told me when she was hungry and when she got a bit older I felt it helped when she was just using me for comfort rather than actual feeds.

How is everyone getting on with picking names? Does everyone know what they're having? I'm having a surprise, I feel like we've got a boy name but we can't agree on a girls name and its stressing me out! x

CaptainCarp · 27/05/2022 13:11

@beetree1 your the opposite of me & DP.. We've decided on a girls name but can't agree on a boys name at all!
It'll just be baby captain for a while ๐Ÿ˜‚

@strawberrysummer19 if baby goes transverse they will try to manually turn it to head down but can't do it if its foot down.
I did find that the movements were still a bit 1 sided when baby was head down i think it depends which side the feet are on.

@ChinChilly I feel like I've got something sticking in the bottom of ribs then the side & also a "heavy" feeling down low so I don't know what baby is up to in there ๐Ÿ˜‚

strawberrysummer19 · 27/05/2022 14:25

I've worked out my last day at work today and it's 28th June ๐Ÿ˜€

I can take annual leave from 28th June to 19th July when my mat leave will start so that's good

So I'll get a full pay for June but just trying to work out my pay for after

I know it's ยฃ156.66 a week but does that mean it's different every month or is it pro rata?

So for July it's half and half and august 90% 6 wks so does anyone know how I calculate that please?

X

missv556 · 27/05/2022 15:07

Just had my growth scan (32+5) and he's still on the 97th percentile. Estimated 5 lbs 4 oz. Got a consultant call tomorrow to discuss the plan going forward

strawberrysummer19 · 27/05/2022 15:36

@missv556 oh wow! How are you feeling? Was the consultant call already booked or did they arrange it there and then?

I have my 32wk growth scan next Tuesday and a consult a week after - mine was on the 97th centile at my last growth scan and from how I feel and midwife's comments think I'll be the same x

missv556 · 27/05/2022 18:02

@strawberrysummer19 my midwife called the hospital on Wednesday to get me booked in with a consultant on June 9th but they have pushed it forward to tomorrow before I had the scan anyway. But I feel like I'm carrying a baby elephant some of the time ๐Ÿ˜‚ I am struggling with walking more often than not these days and legit don't know how I can carry on for another 7 weeks

SamanthaVimes · 27/05/2022 18:07

@strawberrysummer19 best to speak directly to your payroll department about the pay as Iโ€™ve seen it done slightly differently in different places (only timing differences as the total would work out the same but useful to know when youโ€™ll get what)

strawberrysummer19 · 27/05/2022 18:54

@@missv556 I feel exactly the same!!so uncomfortable and heavy now

@SamanthaVimes we don't have one, that was literally my 'payroll' chat today

Ah well I have a rough idea xx

strawberrysummer19 · 27/05/2022 19:05

Is anyone else's bump feel tender to touch?

It's not pain or anything it's just like the skin feels really stretched and when my partner or daughter rub my bump which I really don't mind usually it just feels tender

Even clothing over the top feels like it irritates it and when I'm home I often lift the pj top up as it feels better

I've googled it and horrid things come up!
Just wondered if anyone else has had this?

X

34 weeks today and as it's half term next week I am now officially on maternity leave! So excited and on our way to France for a week's holiday to celebrate ๐Ÿ˜†

strawberrysummer19 · 27/05/2022 20:44

I've just bought a pregnancy ball and it's brilliant

Just thought I'd share

The benefits are fab and anything to help with sleep and aches and pains!

@kiwi17 enjoy your holiday! How are you feeling? And what do you have planned? X

Thank you!! We are driving down to the south of France/provence for some sunshine I'm excited ๐Ÿ˜ I feel so glad to be done and am looking forward to catching up on all the little jobs when we get back! Glad you bought a birthing ball they're the best - I have a half hour bounce every evening ๐Ÿ˜‚

ShellUK09 · 27/05/2022 21:21

@strawberrysummer19 my bump feels a bit tender today too but I have a feeling baby is having a growth spurt. She feels like she is doing somersaults this evening! My bump just feels heavier today as well. I got a birthing ball as well and have to agree they are brilliant at taking the pressure off your lower back

Lianna93 · 27/05/2022 23:32

@strawberrysummer19 My bump isn't sore to the touch on the skin but it's certainly uncomfortable inside - like trapped wind sort of pain/pressure, which always makes for very uncomfortable visits to the midwife when she's feeling baby's position.
Could have hit the roof when she felt for baby's head in my pelvis the other day ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

My sister gave me a birthing ball - I'm yet to pump it up & use it but it's my plan over the weekend I think!

@kiwi17 Enjoy your holiday! :)
