@Prema112 On the plus side, if you give birth on the kitchen floor, no need to organise childcare for the oldest! Not something I particularly want, mind you. I mean, who cleans up the mess? Far rather leave all the practicalities to a hospital!

Lol yes this is true!

Vimto1991 · 10/05/2022 10:48

@Flowerbug1994 same as what happened to me, they can’t really explain why but they think it’s babies position and how big they are getting now. I went to triage as yes, it’s technically out of pattern for you, so you could go just to be on the safe side and have a Ctg and make sure all is okay. :) All I will say is after three days of non stop movement, baby had a quiet day, and has been a bit more normal on movements since, so a bit of downtime and wriggling away for an hour or so in the evening. Although, every day is out of pattern for this baby, I’d be in triage every day if I told them 🙈 and I almost was last week. Starting to want to rely on instinct more than the hospital telling me to come straight in. The consultant said since I feel constant movement that if I feel movement once an hour she’d be satisfied I wouldn’t need to come in, so have taken her advice so far.

Flowerbug1994 · 10/05/2022 11:17

@Vimto1991 i know exactly what you mean about wanting to trust instincts even though he was more active j felt like I knew he was fine myself !! But then I second guess myself terribly am 35+4 today and I just can’t see myself being pregnant for like about 4 weeks I think he’s going to make an appearance. Am getting like pain in my back thag I haven’t had I think j might see how I go next few hours and if still the same call triage xxx

Letsbekindplease · 10/05/2022 11:34

@RoseValleyRambles thanks. That was me. I’ll have a look.

Octoblockisadick · 10/05/2022 12:12

@ALHCTPS I need to start making a plan for my 4 year old. We have lots of family nearby so lots of options, but we haven't specifically asked for certain people to be on call at certain times. They have said these are our shift patterns and call us if you need us, but we probably need to put a proper plan in place. Luckily my daughter goes to them after school and things so it wouldn't be too unusual for her so she will hopefully cope well.
@Prema112 I had told my daughter that the baby would come after she turned 4, so since her birthday the other week she's like erm so where is he then?! 🤣
@RoseValleyRambles oh I want some too, I'll have a look at happymama.

Slanketeer · 10/05/2022 12:18

@Letsbekindplease I ordered some button down ones from Happy Mama but ended up returning them as I found them quite thick and thought I would end up too hot in them!

In the end I bought a couple of these button down summer dresses www.vertbaudet.co.uk/adaptable-loose-fitting-dress-maternity-nursing-special-green-medium-all-over-printed.htm?ProductId=009700406&FiltreCouleur=6726&t=1. They're very comfortable (wearing one today!) and seemed a good option as they're something I could also wear out and about over the summer.

Clomid1 · 10/05/2022 12:35

Have you guys been tested for Group B strep? I was given a leaflet from DAU. They didn’t mention who would test me. No one has mentioned any testing to me. If you have been tested which appointment were you tested at?

GrowBabyGrow · 10/05/2022 12:52

@Clomid1 I don't think it's the norm to test in England but my trust has just announced they are taking part in a trial for all women 37 weeks + to be tested for group b strep when arriving at the hospital or birth centre in labour/ suspected labour/ induction.

Before they announced it I was planning on getting a home test gbss.org.uk/info-support/group-b-strep-testing/ecm-test-where-how/

But also you can write to your MP to ask them to get your hospital to take part in the trial as well. gbss.org.uk/get-involved/campaign-and-raise-awareness/parliamentary-activity/email-your-mp/

It's ridiculous that they don't test as standard, it's such a simple test that would save lives!

RoseValleyRambles · 10/05/2022 14:18

Agree. They won't test, and not even sure if you can request it. I knew from a set of previous gynae explorations, so have a sticker on my notes.

I think some of the issue is that you can be positive one week, then not the next, so there's only so much they can do with the knowledge and would probably end up overadministering antibiotics if they did test everyone. But I'm still glad I know as it reduces the risk of something that could have been anticipated being missed with little one once he arrives.

Prema112 · 10/05/2022 14:21

Thanks @GrowBabyGrow I've written to my MP, it's crazy they don't routinely test.

Thanks everyone on the snack ideas, definitely gonna get some sucky sweets!

RoseValleyRambles · 10/05/2022 14:29

On a post-maternity shopping note, I am becoming filled with empire-line rage. I look awful in an empire line. Ditto a wraparound. Which means about 90% of nursing wear is out. And what's left is mostly grey.

Bah humbug.

Clomid1 · 10/05/2022 14:31

@GrowBabyGrow I’ll ask in my antenatal appointment next week. If they don’t test for it I’ll pay for myself I don’t want to risk it. Thanks for sending the link across.

@RoseValleyRambles I thought if you have it then it will always be there? Does it go away?

RoseValleyRambles · 10/05/2022 14:56

@clomid1 for some reason it then comes and goes. Which is why testing tends to be offered very close to delivery if it's offered, so it's likely to give an accurate read as to whether you'll be positive when delivering.

But once you've had a positive test at any point, the NHS will assume you're positive and give you antibiotics in labour anyways. You just need to let your midwife know.

Prema112 · 10/05/2022 15:44

@Clomid1 I had it a few years back, didn't get offered a test or antibiotics for my DS birth even though I mentioned it, then tested negative for it in my second trimester of this pregnancy 🤷‍♀️

Vimto1991 · 10/05/2022 15:47

I’m 36 weeks tomorrow and a stand in midwife I had today said they have no colostrum harvesting kits. Find this a bit ridiculous. Can I just use any syringe? Might scowl the internet for some I’m scared I’ll miss my chance to harvest it?

Letsbekindplease · 10/05/2022 15:54

@Vimto1991 I think “my expert midwife do them

I’m positive it’s just a syringe and a tin cup that you always see around the hospitals for samples.

@Slanketeer oh I like these. How do you find the sizing. ? I feel like my sizing is all to pot. If someone tells me to “size up” once more I will scream. I’m a usual size 12/14 and a size 16/18 doesn’t suit the bump lol.

ALHCTPS · 10/05/2022 17:32

@RoseValleyRambles a loose top over a vest you can pull down works well for feeding. You hoik up the loose top and then the vest keeps your middle covered/warm. Nursing bra underneath. I’m happy to breastfeed wherever, but not so keen on having a boob or, worse still, my belly exposed more than necessary the elements/the gaze of nosey strangers. The vest keeps your mid section under wraps.

fpeg · 10/05/2022 17:37

Needing a moan here, sorry ladies... Anyone else just really feel like they're starting to struggle? I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and in the last few days just feel like I've run into an absolute wall. I'm really hoping that the fact that everything just hurts so much more each day in terms of ability to bend over, intermittent contractions, even just being able to empty my bladder!, etc. means that she is still thinking of making an early entrance! 2 weeks today for induction but don't feel like I can do two weeks right at this moment in time. I'm sure more sleep will help but just needed the moan in this wonderful sage space!

Vimto1991 · 10/05/2022 17:54

@fpeg you aren’t alone. Four weeks until due date and I’m at the point of wanting this baby out. I seem to run out of stamina so quick so find it hard to do house tasks. Also movement anxiety has meant my mental health is constantly on edge I considered asking my consultant if they do early inductions to benefit MH. 😩

RoseValleyRambles · 10/05/2022 18:01

My lovely team did a surprise baby shower at work for me today. Feeling very teary - I'm going to miss the work crew while I'm away!

unknownscot · 10/05/2022 18:20

@Vimto1991
They definitely due induce at 39 weeks for MH reasons.

mrkb · 10/05/2022 18:24

@fpeg I'm in the same boat - 36+2 and if she was born yesterday I'd be very happy to have her out! Waking up around 4-6 times a night desperate for the loo, so uncomfortable, everything hurts, can't work out if my legs are swollen and I should be worried about pre-eclampsia or if they're just fatter than I remember 🤦🏻‍♀️ can't possibly imagine how I'm going to last another few weeks! Half hoping that my cramps from last week are a sign she'll be making an early appearance...!

Vimto1991 · 10/05/2022 18:24

@unknownscot oooh thanks for the heads up! I see my consultant Tuesday so will discuss with her then what my best options are. 🤩

DH has gone out with BIL and SIL to see dr strange tonight. I didn’t want to go in fear of 1) how much I’d need to pee 2) how uncomfortable I’d get. plus I get super tired these days 😂 my youth is being stripped away.

unknownscot · 10/05/2022 18:36

My boobs are getting sooo sore! Anyone else's? I'm only 33+6!

beansprout55 · 10/05/2022 19:03

@unknownscot mine were last week! Also I'm happy to see someone else is in week 33 - I was starting to worry I was the only one! Is anyone else due at the end of June that isn't having a section?

FTM - Do I need to buy a nasal aspirator/decongester?
