@RoseValleyRambles I was eternally grateful for OH bringing mine in when I was in hospital a couple of weeks ago. Hospital pillows aren't great so it allowed me to pass myself out to get comfy!

@JAR1981 can't help on the colostrum harvesting, was told not to try it before this week after little lady's attempt to come early! Glad to hear you are starting to recover, I didn't lose my sense of smell (not much help all round am I?😂) but do hope your reins quickly x

@CurryandSnuggle hoping that your luck changes very soon!! At least (hopefully) it'll all be out of the way by the time your little one gets here x

@Prema112 I've packed Jaffa cakes 😁😁😁 also a couple of packets of crisps, Percy pigs, cereal bars and jelly tots. Lots of Lucozade sport

(someone asked about how to tell it's not fizzy - the sport one isn't fizzy x)

RoseValleyRambles · 10/05/2022 07:36

Big question: why not the fizzy lucozade? It's my fave and sport just doesn't measure up. Grin

Letsbekindplease · 10/05/2022 07:36

@CurryandSnuggle aw no that’s awful. One thing after another. Let’s hope this is the last thing and then you can focus

@slowrunningteacher I need a wee list organised for bits and bobs. Pretty much sorted just need a nightie and some SNACKS. I think I’ll add some Lucozade sport in too. I think that one is actually flat though. It’s the fizzy one I usually get.

@Prema112 so far I have small cans of full fat coke.
cadburys breakfast bars (the chocolate chip ones) and a bag of marshmallows.
last time I took nothing but energy bars and if my partner forced another one in my had during labour, I was gonna scream. Have touched one since haha.

I think I’m going to pack my own pillow too if I remember. When I was at the hospital a few weeks ago with reduced movement i noticed how plastic and uncomfortable the pillow is! So will take my own. Maybe even 2. (If I remember )

I really need nightdresses though if anyone can show me what they have. I know I’m totally over thinking this, but I went to tescos etc and can’t see any that are suitable. Wanted buttons for easy for skin to skin but can’t see any.

another plus is my sickness is away. That was an awful 24 hours.

@EarlGreywithLemon @PlodandPod ahhhh - I panicked as I couldn't deal with the trip to ikea and bought this M&P's one, can you let me know if this is the one you mean isn't good? I really should have done more research I just assumed M&P would be good...

www.mamasandpapas.com/products/cotbed-essential-pocket-spring-espsmcb02?utmterm=41486615969957&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInrqTzKjU9wIVF-DtCh3CCQL4EAQYBSABEgKrDvDBwE

If that's the one that's meant to be crap I'm going to find strength and get to IKEA. @JAR1981 if only IKEA weren't charging £40 for delivery. Wtf!?xx

pregnancydiaries · 10/05/2022 07:42

@CurryandSnuggle ahhhhh I don't think there's anything worse than a UTI so I have so much sympathy for him, which in turn means hell on earth for you I'm sure 😂 fingers crossed antibiotics clear it quickly 🤞🏼 xx

@Prema112 that made me laugh about the peanut date straight after a sweep...I'm definitely assuming she either isn't a FTM or is the most chilled person you've met? 😂 xx

Octoblockisadick · 10/05/2022 07:47

@slowrunningteacher if you're having the covid test on 29th, I reckon that would put your section within the next 5 or so days after, can't imagine they do it too far in advance. I would say probably the Tuesday or Wednesday after, very few places do electives on bank hols. Exciting times!

Have you had any more thoughts about induction @laurenGame ? It makes sense about baby being fully cooked by 39 weeks, guess it is just whether your body would be ready to go into labour?

@JAR1981 wow 3 weeks! Not long at all. I've been harvesting colostrum, this it's a good video on how (the actual "how" starts about 4 minutes in). I would say enlist your partner for help, it can be a bit awkward expressing with one hand and using the syringe with the other. Or when I started getting the hang of it and it came a bit easier, I started expressing into a teaspoon then syringing it off the spoon. Also, the syringes are tiny, so make sure you flick the colostrum down it and push the air back out to give you room to get more.

Oh @CurryandSnuggle that sounds awful, hope things get easier soon!

Prema112 · 10/05/2022 07:51

@pregnancydiaries She's a FTM!!! So just incredibly chilled! I was more worried than she was about her labour 😂

fpeg · 10/05/2022 08:00

@RoseValleyRambles it's because the sport version is quickly absorbed and the gas in the fizzy version could also lead to an increased likelihood of regurgitation if you required emergency c-section. Whilst I was waiting to see if my little trouble causer was going to require an early entrance to the world I was only allowed Lucozade sport or water and was well over 24 hours without being able to eat!

@pregnancydiaries yes the essentials one you have is the one highly rated by which 😁

@pregnancydiaries No this is the good one. It's rated 75% for the essential and 43% for the premium pocket sprung. I have the essential too.

The reason the premium was rated so much lower was because 'Cover shrank after washing which impacts on mattress size and could pose an injury risk'

😊

Amazing thank you so much ladies @fpeg @PlodandPod ...this whole thing is a total minefield!!! I've now signed up to which so I can check everything else. Thanks both xx

slowrunningteacher · 10/05/2022 08:33

Thanks to all those who have replied about Lucozade Sport. All I'm allowed from midnight the night before my C-section is water. Apparently if you're not first on the list, you can have Lucozade Sport for some energy etc once at hospital.

Vimto1991 · 10/05/2022 08:35

Oooh thanks for linking the cot mattress. I may get that one if it’s highly rated! With the sheets delivery is June but we won’t be using it until next year anyway.

ALHCTPS · 10/05/2022 08:44

@Prema112 Yes, what happens with my four-year-old is a major concern for me too. Just dawned on me it would be sensible to have a ‘go bag’ packed for him too, with pjs and clothes and toys etc. Have loosely arranged for our lovely (50-something and childless but dote on him and have done this before, i.e. take older child while younger is born) neighbours to take him if we need to head for the hospital during the night. I figure we can bundle him up in a blanket and hand him across. And then, if it’s a nursery day, the mum of one of his pals will drop him off and pick him up. If it’s the weekend or things go on, we have family not far away who can swoop in and collect him, which he should be delighted by, as he adores his cousins. All good options, frankly, which will hopefully cover most eventualities, and I’m doing my best to talk him through what will happen in advance, as these conversations are becoming increasingly important. We set up the cot over the weekend and I attached a mobile that first born had had over his cot but which has been hanging from a light since he moved into a bed without checking with him first if it was okay and he’s not happy about it. Never occurred to me he was remotely interested in it, and he’s been fine about all the other baby stuff (aside from a moment when I started moving clothes about in his wardrobe to create space), but it was a rookie error not to ask him and involve him.

EarlGreywithLemon · 10/05/2022 08:47

@pregnancydiaries yes, that’s the better rated one! Glad it worked out 😊

RoseValleyRambles · 10/05/2022 08:50

Good knowledge @fpeg! I'm thinking about post birth, so that sounds like my fizz will be fine (mmm... Cherry...)

Am also planning a ton of frusli bars, dried fruit, and starmix. I needs my snacks.

ALHCTPS · 10/05/2022 08:51

And I love that immensely chilled FTM going out for a coffee when 2cm dilated. Having been in labour three days last time (little sod wouldn’t tuck his chin under so didn’t progress far down the birth canal and had to be yanked out with forceps in the end), I will not be hurrying to head in. I think contractions started in the wee hours last time but I stayed home until about 10pm that evening and then we headed in, as I was concerned things weren’t progressing. The three days were because they knocked me out with diamorphine twice when I was absolutely exhausted to give me a chance to rest and recover. What are the odds this one will be the other extreme? There’s just no way of knowing!

Prema112 · 10/05/2022 08:55

@ALHCTPS That's such a good point I hadn't thought of a little bag for him...

I can definitely imagine whisking things he hasn't played with for years away from him for the baby and then him being cross! I'm trying to talk lots to him about it all too, he wants the baby to come on Thursday, the day after his birthday 😂

Prema112 · 10/05/2022 08:56

@ALHCTPS My first labour was really fast so I'm even more concerned about getting my son somewhere before I give birth on the kitchen floor 😬😬

sunflower198 · 10/05/2022 08:57

@slowrunningteacher I have my pre op Covid test booked for 28th and my c section date is 30th x

ALHCTPS · 10/05/2022 09:00

@Prema112 First born has been fascinated by all his old baby toys and clothes coming down from the loft. And my heart thumped extra hard when we were in the playground the other day - him, me, his father and our friend, his godfather - and firstborn corrected me to say that there were two little boys in our group. I thought he was demoting his father at first until he said he meant his little brother. It’s really brought home to me how much is sinking in. And he’s rather pleased with his buggie board too. I’m not due until the end of June but the next few weeks will be hectic, so I’m keen to get everything baby related sorted so it’s good to go and I can focus on work up until the last possible moment.

ALHCTPS · 10/05/2022 09:02

@Prema112 On the plus side, if you give birth on the kitchen floor, no need to organise childcare for the oldest! Not something I particularly want, mind you. I mean, who cleans up the mess? Far rather leave all the practicalities to a hospital!

slowrunningteacher · 10/05/2022 09:06

Ohh, a May baby! Good luck x
I just want to know 🤣.
Hubby currently has the whole of that week booked off work, just in case. He's actually over booked holiday for this holiday year (new one starts June 1st) so if midweek he'd cancel the Monday and rebook it for the following week. My Mum is staying to help with DD, so we're saving DH's paternity leave until she's gone home. That way I'll have an extra pair of hands for longer. DD is fab, but hard work at nearly 2 and I don't fancy being left in sole charge of both 2 weeks after a C-section!

Flowerbug1994 · 10/05/2022 09:20

Morning All, so this is opposite of what has usually been happening for me I’ve had a couple of eps of reduced movements and gone in and all has been fine. I didn’t feel much Friday or Saturday as I was running round Friday and Saturday was my baby shower but I felt enough often enough when sat down to not be concerned. The past 2 days this little boy has been non stop. Well when I’ve been out and about he’s been quite but when I’ve been sat at desk or on sofa or bed he has been having a good wriggle. Nothing frantic or jerky or anything like that just a lot of rolls ans wriggles. Would you class this as increased movements what do we do when this happens is it a change in pattern. Anyone else had this ?? Thanks

RoseValleyRambles · 10/05/2022 09:21

Whoever was looking for button down nighties, happymama have some.

EarlGreywithLemon · 10/05/2022 09:24

@Prema112 for snacks I’m packing Haribo, some cereal bars, water and dried fruit. The latter is to counteract all the oramorph/ codydramol post C section. I’m a “take all the pain relief” kind of gal!

I will ask if I could be allowed Lucozade sport if I’m not first on the list.

The winner in labour last time was the Haribo. Although I wasn’t allowed too much of it because a C section looked possible 😬
