George is DH's long favourite and the safe choice. I was keen on Elliott for a while but DH objected to it for so long, so now not very sure. The other two we came up only recently- but again can't be sure..Only one week to go till birth now..so should decide fairly soon!

Prefer Emilio to Emil - but would depend on your surname I suppose.

Elliott would be my favourite overall!

FooFooTheSnoo · 10/01/2008 13:32

I wanted Emil at one point but filed it under 'you are not french and therefore would be pretentious' (along with Hamish - not scottish).

I think George is the nicest of the other three.

Aitch · 10/01/2008 13:33

i have a Polish friend called Emil, it suits him. George is nicest, imo, is it a family name?

DavidTennantsMistress · 10/01/2008 13:34

George Elliott would be my choice. love george.

goingfor3 · 10/01/2008 13:35

I love Cosmo but wouldn't call a baby it. You have a few names you both like so choose which ever one suits your baby best when he arrives.

HairyIrene · 10/01/2008 13:35

i like cosmo and emile

dont really like george nor elliot

motherinferior · 10/01/2008 13:35

You can't call a child George Eliot, can you. Not a boy, anyway.

puffling · 10/01/2008 13:35

Too many Elliots now. Lots of Georges, but that's Ok cos it's traditional (although with some surnames, your son's name could be mistaken for a butcher's name.
Cosmo is way too pretentious.
My favourite is Emil, there was a naughty Emil in my class at primary School.

FooFooTheSnoo · 10/01/2008 13:35

Emil and the detectives was one of my favourite books as a child - that was one of the reasons I wanted it.

You could always wait and see. Will he look like a George or an Emil?

GrapefruitMoon · 10/01/2008 13:36

For some reason i don't like George but love the girls versions of Georgina and Georgia - totally irrational - which is why you should ignore us all and choose what you like!

Chunkamatic · 10/01/2008 13:37

But if you call it George Elliot it will seem like you are naming him after the literary great of the same name, who was ,in fact, a woman...!!

kittylouise · 10/01/2008 13:37

Love all the names - in this order Cosmo, George, Elliott, Emil

Don't think would be a good idea to call him George Elliott as a 1st name, 2nd names because people may think you named him after the author and start talking about Middlemarch!

I Like Cosmo George, or Cosmo Elliot, or Emil George. These names seem to go well together

Blu · 10/01/2008 13:39

I like Emil and Cosmo..and then George.

Peachy · 10/01/2008 13:40

George is the middle name we have chosen (FIL's adoptive father and DH's middle name)

Elliott is the name we wanted but sister got to choose first and went for Ellis in November so too close (chosen Sebastian now)

not so keen on the others though

tissy · 10/01/2008 13:41

Like Emil and George.

Cosmo poncy, Elliott- not sure why, just don't like it

sweetkitty · 10/01/2008 13:42

Elliot was my all time favourite boys name but I have had two girls.

Am pregnant with number 3 and DP says he has gone off Elliot, his objection is whilst it is a great name it's a bit too poncy for around where we live. I disagree with some of the other boys names about.

so my list would be
Elliot
George
Cosmo
Emil

LoveAngel · 10/01/2008 13:42

Cosmo - pone-a-rama.

Elliot - ok

George - don't like it. Stuffy and very common.

Emil - Lovely. One of my fave names.

LoveAngel · 10/01/2008 13:43

ponce

littleboo · 10/01/2008 13:43

Love elliot

TheBlonde · 10/01/2008 13:44

really like George
not sure about Emil - it is the Swedish name of Cyril the Squirrel in Maisy

Boogalooblue · 10/01/2008 13:47

Cosmo is my ds's name, I love it

PixelHerder · 10/01/2008 13:50

Really like Elliot

George is okay ... my DH loves it but I'm not so sure, I can't get rid of the grandad vibe with it, although I love a lot of other 'old' names

Think Cosmo is poncey

I can imagine Emil on some sort of milk product carton, but don't let that put you off

PixelHerder · 10/01/2008 13:51

oops x-post Boogalooblue, sorry

Aitch · 10/01/2008 13:51

i think neither elliott george nor george elliott. you just can't.

oregonianabroad · 10/01/2008 13:55

good point, aitch!

Cosmo makes me think of Seinfeld.

Emil is nice.

Elliot is OK.

if dh agrees to have a ds3, he might be called george eamon.
