My h has been calling the baby 'Dave' since before we even knew what it was haha 🙈

@stimpyyouidiot little dave :)

IzzyLeigh · 22/04/2022 18:24

@LittlemissMama67 that’s so exciting! What’s the official day?!

@stimpyyouidiot aw that’s so cute! You think that’s going to end up being his name?

Unrelated: has anyone else started noticing the balance changes already too?
I had been expecting it, but I didn’t think it would start for a while as I thought it would mainly be a result of having a huge bump. But my bump is still super small/almost not there and I’m definitely experiencing the balance issues. What’s funny is that it’s only when I’m trying to course-correct or something. For example, I bent down to pick something up and then started mildly losing balance when I went to stand up straight (not the unusual part). I didn’t think I was going to fall over or anything—I just wasn’t totally steady. The abnormal part was that when I went to recenter to regain my balance, I either overcompensated or dramatically undercompensated and then got scared because I was actually REALLY losing my balance and thought I would fall over! Like my calibration was totally off! This has happened a handful of times over the past few days and this rarely happened before. Anyone else having this? I’m assuming it’s because of pelvic expansion and whatever?

@Celyn22 I'm with the NHS. I didn't even know they could check baby's blood through mine until the midwife said! She then sent me a blood form to go and get the bloods taken and said she'd let me know the results.

Sweetbabydust1989 · 22/04/2022 19:02

@Peauela the boys were called minions before they got too old for it 😂 think I felt some movement yesterday and today I cannot believe we are Nearly half way through now I keep thinking about birth I had bad experiences with my boys so actually finding the thought of doing this again scary I think I might ask for the drugs this time never had them with my boys wanted to go completely natural but knowing this one is potentially going to be back to back like second boy was I think being a bit high might take the edge off the gas and air didn't do much at all 😂 xx

Haha @IzzyLeigh noooo it's like his generic 'can't remember their name' name so he just says ohhhh you know Dave. So he started to call the baby Dave just to refer to it haha. It definitely will not be Dave 🤣

Celyn22 · 22/04/2022 20:38

@IzzyLeigh yes me too! I am 21+2 and do now have a bigger belly (still just looks like an overweight belly though!) - but I’ve been noticing the balance issues for maybe 3/4 weeks already. It feels mostly physical but part of it is me not paying full attention to where I am going or being in my own world... can I blame that on baby brain? ;)

@PrettyTulip thank you for getting back to me. I will call my local hospital and ask if I can be put in for the test as it would make such a difference

dkedm15 · 22/04/2022 21:34

@stimpyyouidiot we know we're having a girl and my mum rang me to tell me dad's been calling her Bernard 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

GlitteryGreen · 22/04/2022 21:39

Lol @stimpyyouidiot ours is 'Tony' currently.

I watched Yorkshire Midwives after seeing the mention on here and it's actually made me quite sad!! They all have such good relationships with their midwives and I don't feel like I have one at all 😕

My hospital pushes really heavily to use this helpline thing rather than contacting the midwives, and both appointments I've had so far have been with different people so no consistency. The last midwife I saw was quite reluctant to give me her number when I asked, directing me towards the helpline, and then didn't respond on the one occasion I contacted her with a query (which was personal to my circumstances so helpline wasn't relevant). Next appointment isn't even until the end of May so very few and far between anyway.

AND the maternity ward/birth Centre is actually at a different hospital to where I'm having all my scans and check-ups, so it will be a completely unfamiliar environment and definitely different staff.

Just seems like all the Yorkshire midwives know their ladies really well and have been consistently caring for them throughout their pregnancy...my experience couldn't be further from that so far!😕

stimpyyouidiot · 22/04/2022 22:04

@dkedm15 @GlitteryGreen glad it's not just us with the funny name!

@GlitteryGreen I know what you mean - in my last pregnancy I didn't see a midwife more than once or twice. And they were all so grumpy. The ones at my homebirth were ones I'd never met before. I have seen the same midwife twice this time and I know I'll see her again at 28 weeks so that's reassuring but I know how it feels to not know who you're getting each time and whether they'll be funny with you about stuff (weight being my issue!!).
I would assume that their team would be the same as my area, in that you get referred to them at 28 weeks if still eligible, so they're not with you the entire time.

stimpyyouidiot · 22/04/2022 22:05

Oh! @GlitteryGreen also we have a main number you call as well, like a help desk. It's not been amazing but is what it is.

GlitteryGreen · 22/04/2022 22:22

@stimpyyouidiot Home birth isn't really an option for me because I live in a flat so not really fair on the neighbours 🤣

Yeah it just hasn't been what I expected really when it's come to interaction with midwives, I guess I was naive and thought there'd be a few more appointments and that once you're assigned a midwife that's who you usually see...but I had one for the 8 weeks booking appontment, she then said her clinic was full ans so allocated me to 2 job-sharing midwives and gave me their names and numbers but I never spoke to them, and then my next appointment was with someone else entirely 😂 Just don't really feel there are many places to turn if you need to ask a more personal question where they'd need to know your info in order to respond 🤷‍♀️ Obvs the hotline is fine for an emergency or concerns, but not really helpful for every day questions.

Sweetbabydust1989 · 22/04/2022 22:26

@GlitteryGreen when I had my boys who are now 9 & 11 I had one midwife for them and built such a lovely relationship with her and it felt more personal this time round there is about 5 to 10 midwife's and you just see whoever at the apps which is rather sad the last one I saw was so bloody rude she never read my notes at all and I could tell as she was asking me questions that she would of known the answers to if she had glanced at my notes for example why am I high risk well 2 ectopics and a history of small babies due to placenta issues picked up late in pregnancy might give you some idea of why I am high risk 😂🙈 I had to phone them the other day due to my hip and leg pain and a lovely midwife was like when is your next app I was like your guess is as good as mine as I was told by the rude one she would send my notes and apps in the post apparently she never actually booked them and I still haven't received my notes from my last app. I have also noticed they love you using this app called badger notes which would be great but they actually don't upload anything up to so it's pointless. I honestly feel like iam doing it on my own all my scans/midwife and consultant apps take place at 3 different hospitals too not just one 🙈 dread giving birth now the way they're going I will be doing it on my own while the midwives sit in the corner shouting you're doing great while eating chocolate biscuits and watching telly 😂 xx

GlitteryGreen · 22/04/2022 22:33

@Sweetbabydust1989 Yep I get you, I completely relate to feeling alone with it all.

Luckily my hospital seems quite good with the badger app and they do upload things, but I just really assumed you'd just get one (or max 2 if the other is off) midwives that you actually get to know and who know what's going on with you.

My scans and appointments are at a hospital 5 mins walk away, which is fab for me, but no maternity ward there so don't think I'll even see the birth centre/ward or midwives until I'm in labour.

Luckily so far the midwives I have seen have both been nice, but obvs it's just a first meeting over and over again so no continuity or relationship there at all, and they're just telling me the same things, like about the whooping cough vaccine or checking whether I'm booked in for the diabetes test etc. Would be far nicer to just see one person but I guess it's a sign of the times and how stretched things are.

stimpyyouidiot · 22/04/2022 22:41

@GlitteryGreen oh no I didn't mean for you to have a homebirth - I meant that I imagine that those midwives in the programme hadn't been with those women from the start of their pregnancy and most likely only met them after 30 weeks so they wouldn't have been there the whole time if that makes sense! I guess it differs from area to area if you get to see the same person each time. It does make it quite disconcerting, especially for your first.

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 22/04/2022 22:44

I've found the midwife service this time round has been awful. Last time I had one lovely midwife who saw me at every appoint apart from the hospital based one. This time I've been given the name of "my" midwife but not a her contact number.

The number I've been given is for a central switchboard which sends you round in circles before disconnecting you. My doctor was disgusted that my last two urine samples showed signs of bacteria growth and this wasn't acted on.

I'm happy news, DH has installed a ceiling fan in our bedroom. I'm delighted as I'm permanently hot at night time. He on the other hand is considering investing in thermal pyjamas.

Sweetbabydust1989 · 22/04/2022 22:44

@GlitteryGreen oh 100% like I no this is my third but the support would be nice as they say no 2 pregnancies are the same. I have one consultant which is great she saw me through my ectopics so she is better to have than the midwives really.

One of my hospitals is in London which is a fetal medicine centre, one is a 10 min drive which is great the other is a 40 min drive and the one I will give birth in is a 15-20 min drive depending on the time of day which they could all be at one.

I honestly don't no why my midwives use the app only thing I get is apps when they're actually booked no notes which is quite bad as they will need those for when the time comes.

I get more support from this group than the professionals it's mental xx

annlee3817 · 22/04/2022 23:07

@GlitteryGreen I didn't have the same midwife for my last pregnancy, there was only one at my docs, but the first one left, then I had a stand in, then the new one started just before I had DD. I will say though, the midwife I had at the hospital for the birth was just lovely, I'd not seen the birthing center either before then, but it was such a calming place just with how it's set up.

This time I saw a midwife at booking in at six weeks, was given a number for my midwife going forwards, so I messaged her today asking for my Mat B1 form and she said I can request this off my midwife, but I thought she was my midwife 🤷

Won't see one until 28 weeks and no idea who 🙄

Sweetbabydust1989 · 22/04/2022 23:12

@annlee3817 I am having the same issue I won't see the random midwife until 28 weeks but I need my MATB1 form not sure when I will get that I would of assumed by post however not holding out on that one still awaiting apps which were suppose to have been booked along with my notes 🙈 x

GlitteryGreen · 22/04/2022 23:14

I am just outside London too, which I think contributes to it as it's just so busy. The next closest hospitals are all actually in London, mine is the only one in this area really.

I don't know why I'm even surprised tbh as it's in line with the rest of my health care - never see the same doctor at the GPs, never see the same dentist etc etc. You just get what you're given round here, if you can even make an appointment in the first place 🙈

I guess I just thought pregnancy would be different because obviously people have questions and concerns throughout, and it can be a scary time.

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher Jealous of your ceiling fan!! I have already been stressing because I sleep with the window open every night and struggle to not overheat without it, but I know I won't be able to have it open when the baby arrives 😮

SoOverThisCrap · 23/04/2022 07:26

Morning everyone! This Mumsnet update they've done is crazy, I've not been able to properly look at anything for days. I had to log out and then it wouldn't log me back in, I had to delete the app, reset my password, etc 🙄 this thread moves so fast that I can't keep up but I hope everyone is ok?
My sinuses are really bad at the moment and I'm on day two of an awful headache 🤦‍♀️

annlee3817 · 23/04/2022 08:06

I'd honestly recommend just using it on Google Chrome on your phone, I've never bothered with the app as it's just another thing I've got on my phone lol. I've not had any issues with chrome.

Sorry you're sinuses are still bothering you @SoOverThisCrap :(

Morning everyone. Had such a busy few weeks with my birthday, Easter etc and we finally announced our pregnancy…. It was getting hard to hide it as I’m nearly 18 weeks… I’ve not had the urge to rush since I lost my mum so that’s prob why we left it late. Funny the reactions you get when it’s number 3… I’ve had.. what again!? You will need a bigger house, I bet your hoping for a boy (I have 2 girls) and my dads was… at least you will get more child benefit 🙄 I know my mum would’ve at least asked how I was feeling 😔
anyway it’s been lovely catching up on this new thread and already 8 pages in… congratulations to all who’s had 20 week scans recently ours is the start of may. Xx

stimpyyouidiot · 23/04/2022 08:41

@Billymay people are just eejits when you announce aren't they. I'm sorry they didn't react the way they should have, that's rubbish.
