Ah @GinnyBee hope the regression passes quickly. I'm hoping beyond hope we manage to avoid it as Callie has been sleeping 8-8 since really early on (really since birth though for the first few weeks she was waking twice for feeds) having one kid that's been a shite sleeper for 2 years is enough 😂

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 01/09/2022 20:11

Hi all, sorry to those in the sleep regression, it is hard but it will pass. Sending virtual coffee! We are doing ok here, eldest son is back at school today so it’s been a little easier. Summer holidays with a 5, 3 and 4 month old have been tiring! Lyra is such a lovely baby but wants holding constantly which I’m sure would be fine if she was my only one but I feel so bad when I have to put her down for a minute to do something for one of the others and she screams her head off! Hoping once she is sitting up it will be easier.

YfenniChristie · 02/09/2022 12:16

Hi everyone! I think we've started sleep regression here and I'm so frustrated. DS only started sleeping in 5 to 8hr chunks relatively recently and now he's waking every 2-3hrs again at night. It wouldn't be so bad, but his naps have shortened to 20 to 40mins from 2 to 2.5hrs. Oh, and they're now contact naps, whereas before he was happy for me to pop him down.

Just as I was feeling confident enough to take him out in the car by myself, I now feel SO goddamn tired and I can't even nap when he naps. I don't feel like I can get anything done. 😩

Despite all this, he is such a happy baby. He's very smiley and "chats" away with me. Even though I'm pretty sure he's teething as well, he only really becomes grumpy at the very end of the day.

We're meant to be starting some Welsh language baby classes in the coming weeks. I'm hoping it'll help him sleep more and not cause him to become overtired.

Sarah239 · 04/09/2022 15:05

Hi everyone!

We are doing ok. Think we have started sleep regression too - I've stopped being able to transfer her to the crib at night AT ALL, she wakes up instantly, so we have been co-sleeping. I wake up in the night not from her but from my lower back and shoulders aching from being curled round her (the cuddle curl) but she does sleep really well like that. I am looking forward to getting my own sleep space back though. Hopefully this passes soon.

Still using nipple shields... I don't want to talk about it 😅

We also had a horrible period around 10-12 weeks where she would refuse the breast and I would have to stand up and rock her to get her to eat. In the end it seems I was offering it too much and not accepting she might not be hungry 🤷‍♀️ We are in a better place with it now.

She is much better in the car seat now but I still get nervous every time I drive her. She is very smiley half the time but the other half can be extremely unsettled!

What I wouldn't give for a day and night off! I love her to bits and wouldn't change her for the world, but I do miss the freedom. Looking forward to when she can communicate a bit more, I think that will be more fun!

Mamoun · 05/09/2022 19:22

Hi everyone!

My DS was born 22 May...
I am new to MN so first time I am posting on this thread.
I was wondering: what do your baby's day look like in terms of napping and feeding and night? Thank you!

TunaJacket · 05/09/2022 19:49

Hi @Mamoun

i wonder this too!

my boy was born on 11 May. Sleeps from around 8pm-6/7am but wakes about every 2 hours! (We have started co sleeping just to survive 😂)

in the day he gets cranky if not napping every approx 1.5 hours but wakes up after 45 minutes. And feeds every sleep/wake cycle so approx every 2 and a bit hours (ebf)

I try and keep occupied in the day with playmat, tummy time, general chatting and playing with him, going out on walks but he gets bored easy! Sometimes I find myself just walking round the house and garden with him showing him different things 😂We have just started some baby groups though so hoping these will stimulate him and tire him out.

Mamoun · 05/09/2022 20:17

Thank you @TunaJacket !

My baby also get cranky after 1,5 hours or awake time... I try to stretch him a bit to 1h40 minutes in the hope that he does longer naps as all his naps are 35 minutes long... a very short sleep cycle.
Can't complain at night as he wakes only once at the moment... bracing myself for the 4 months regression! 😅

GinnyBee · 05/09/2022 20:46

Mine doesn’t have any sort of schedule at all, he does what he wants 😅 he only contact naps really, and his morning nap is usually when I take the dog for a walk and put the baby in the carrier. Then if we’re home he will have a nap on my chest in the afternoon. If we’re out all bets are off and he sleeps if he can manage it, so if I have a chance to put him in a sling it’s fine but otherwise it’s a bit of a Wild West, he hates the car and isn’t keen on the pram either.

At night his bedtime is usually between 9-10pm and used to sleep until 6-7am but has hit the regression now and feels like he’s up more than he’s asleep 😴

He also gets bored easily so I try to get out and about every day, we go to sensory class, baby swimming, walks with other mums, bounce and rhyme, shopping, anything I can think of because he’s a lot easier to deal with in busy situations than at home! I’m knackered though 😅 pre-baby I liked staying in!

Sarah239 · 08/09/2022 20:50

@TunaJacket your experience sounds exactly like mine! @Mamoun @GinnyBee yours too although it sounds like you are getting out and about more than I am, I still struggle to do the littlest things and any time I successfully leave the house feels like a massive achievement 😅 but it is slooooowly getting easier.

This evening my daughter has fallen asleep at 6pm and won't wake up again... I am confused!!?! Can't wait for 3am 😂

YfenniChristie · 08/09/2022 21:04

We don't have a strict schedule here. I try to get DS to nap every 1.5 to 2hrs, though he has been known to stay awake for up to 4hours (in a generally good mood) despite my repeated attempts to get him to sleep.

For the last two nights, he's slept 8-9hrs overnight without waking. Considering he's spent the last two weeks waking every 2-3hrs, I am incredibly suspicious of this change! 🧐

EastMidsGem · 09/09/2022 07:47

Nice to see some recent posts again and nice to know that there are some similarities. We managed to get through the regression without too much trauma - just became extra exhausted.

We put our baby to bed around 8pm each night and sometimes he settles immediately and other nights it takes half an hour or so. He'll then sleep for around 5-6 hours. Then there's a feed every 3-3.5 hours. Can't believe he's 4 months old already!

Although his feeds are relatively steady in terms of how far apart they are, his naps aren't at particular times. Sometimes he'll nap after a feed and sometimes he won't! I don't know about everyone else but he's so much more vocal now when he wants something.

We don't go out much as his hospital appointments have only just started to calm down due to the treatment for his feet

Kittycaz · 10/09/2022 06:34

@TunaJacket
@Mamoun my DS is similar to you Tuna ebf, he goes up to bed 7pm falls to sleep 8pm sleeps til 1030ish then breast fed and then another 2 hours this continues through the night until he wakes up for the day at 6amish . He naps on me during the day or in pram around 8am he naps 30 mins, then 11am then 2pm then sometimes at 5 and sometimes skips that one. These are all around about times though rather than guaranteed 😅

He's huge though size of an average 6 month old he's got gread head control we got him a jumperoo and he has 20 mins in that a day bouncing around like a madman. Am glad to read others are doing well with there LO's. I'm not ashamed to say I'm looking forward to our 1st Christmas and have bought a ton of "my 1st Christmas" decorations. He's such a delight even though he can get mardy his smiles and giggles make it all worth it x

@Sarah239 same here with the nipple shields I've given up trying now and accepted that at least I'm able to feed with them so thats good.
My baby wakes around 6-6.30 then naps from 8&9ish depending on her first wake time, usually only 45 mins for every nap. Seems to stay awake around 2 hours now before needing another nap. Bedtime is between 7-7.30.

Nice to see this active again!
Hope everyone is doing well and managing some form of sleep!
Thankfully our girl is a little dream and loves her sleep as I'm still up & down most nights with our 2 year old 🙈
Baby girl has her own nap schedule but most days it's every 2-2&half hours awake before a nap though a lot of her naps she'll only do in the bouncer and mostly maxes out at 30 minutes each then some days she'll have an epic 2 hour afternoon nap, though she sleeps 8pm-7:30/8am with no wakes apart from the odd night she'll have a little wake and a wee shout/chat to herself and goes back over. So I'm happy following her lead on naps for now. It's such a different experience this time round for me.

Kittycaz · 04/10/2022 08:40

Hey everyone how are we all doing? Leo is 5 months today and is an absolute delight. He's teething quite a bit but is still very smiley, he's sleeping 3 hours at a time at night now. He's huge on the 98th percentile and hv suggested we start on baby rice. He had his 1st teaspoon mixed with breast milk yesterday in his high chair and was squealing with excitement. Think he was just happy so be sat at table and included in meal time.

@Kittycaz ahh he Sounds cute! My baby girl dropped a bit down from 80th to 25thr but they're not worried. What signs was he showing that he's ready for food? Wondering when to start with mine
Teething has definitely started we've had pretty bad sleep the last week or so but think it's improving!

TunaJacket · 04/10/2022 13:03

I’ve started thinking about weaning but haven’t yet decided which route to go down (blw or purée) probably will do a bit of both but am worried about choking with the baby led!

my lo is still waking every 2 hours at night and very rarely naps longer than 45 mins. He naps on us and cosleeps at night! Worried about what we’ve set ourselves up for but we were in survival mode and not sure I can face sleep training 😂

GinnyBee · 04/10/2022 14:21

Mine wakes like 178 times a night 🫠 first it was the sleep regression and he went back to waking every 2 hours, then he had a bit of a cold that gave him a stuffy nose and woke him up every 30 minutes, then he started rolling at night and whacking his head against the sides of the cot every hour, and now rolls and just gets upset that he’s on his tummy where he rolled himself.

I’ve given him his very first little tasters of mushy food, not to eat really but just to get used to something other than milk being in his mouth, moving it around and having some different flavour. Avocado made him frown at first but then he ate it approvingly, and was in a brilliantly delightful mood for the rest of the day. Banana was super yummy but gave him a tummy ache at night so won’t be doing that again for a little while!

I just looked for him to start showing an interest in food, and he changed almost overnight on that front! One day he couldn’t have cared less about my food, and then the next he was trying to grab everything I had and came towards it with his mouth wide open. First time I dangled a bit of avocado in front of him he just ignored it and the next time fed it to himself. I didn’t just shove a spoon in his mouth, I offered and waited to see what he does with it himself. I’m not yet really following any plan, it’s really just been two tiny tasters, like half a teaspoon, inside a week.

Kittycaz · 04/10/2022 14:27

@TunaJacket thats what id like to do a mixture of purees and blw. I went to a baby cpr class at my children centre made me feel a little more confident. I've made a batch of carrot puree and froze it all ready and plan on giving him it in a couple of weeks. Naps during the day is always on me. I was cosleeping but I got a cot next to my bed with sides down and slowly inched him in a little more every day and he ended up accepting the cot bed (think he will be different once I move his bed into his own room next month)

@Bubbasmama2017 he can hold his head steady and can sit up unaided for 30 seconds at a time does not push food out of his mouth can hold a spoon. Hv suggested it as I have a foremilk hind milk imbalance so Leo was feeding almost constantly but was never full and was pooing once a week if that (longest he went was 12 days) so after hv suggested a few teaspoons of rice a day I did some researching and feel a bit more confident. Think all babies are different. Go with your gut.

Kittycaz · 04/10/2022 14:30

@GinnyBee oooh avocado sounds good I've been trying to gather recipes and saw one for red pepper and apple that sounds yummy to. Leo was always rolling on his front from 2 months and has only just discovered how to turn himself back on to his back 😂

@Bubbasmama2017 I'm the same on the shield front... I spent so long fighting them and trying to get off them, I can't be bothered fighting it anymore and just accepting we are using them, possibly for good. At least I don't have to deal with sore nipples! One thing that has helped is keeping a shield tucked in my bra in my cleavage so I can be more discreet with putting it on and don't have to worry about leaving them upstairs or downstairs or in a bag when I need them!

Nice to read through everyone else's posts.., we are trucking along here. Things are easier at the moment since we changed to the chair attachment on our pushchair (with a comfy newborn insert) and she is sleeping soooo much better in daytime naps in it. I then wheel it inside and can actually have a hands free sit down with a drink sometimes which helps
loads. Nights are ok too. Everything is temporary right?! So I'm enjoying this easier phase while it lasts!

It's so amazing seeing them develop... her smile melts my whole heart when she looks up at me like I'm her whole world (which I guess I am!) it's amazing to feel such a bond. I love watching her learn more about her surroundings and herself and am enjoying going at her pace. She isn't rolling yet but I'm in no rush. Before I know it she will be going off to uni!!

GinnyBee · 06/10/2022 19:51

I took mine to a self weigh clinic today and he’s put on just less than a kilo in a month! About 2lbs. And 1cm 😂 putting on the chunk! He’s such a wriggly busy baby though I’m amazed he isn’t constantly knackered. He’s always on the move and never just chill. But no, he has never in his life got as much sleep as every source tells me he should, his daily total is less than 12 hours. So I think I need to start accepting that he’s just low sleep needs, and stop worrying about getting 12 hours nighttime sleep PLUS naps. Never gonna happen.

As of yesterday he’s now also sitting unaided. Like, stop. You don’t have to learn all the things at once!

YummyMummyXoX · 12/10/2022 21:32

Hi everyone!
Literally popped on thinking there would be no posts but there's lots, so lovely to hear about all the little ones. DD born early on 22nd April at 36 weeks so is almost 6 months it's crazy.

She has been having pureed fruits for a good few weeks now every few days and I'm trying to give porridge on most mornings. Have tried really melty 6 month finger foods today which she really enjoyed. We go on holiday next week so that'll be interesting... a bit nervous.
She goes to bed for the night anywhere vetween 8 and 10 and wakes for a feed once or twice abd goes back to sleep. Has about 3 or 4 naps anywhere from 30 mins to 4 hours depending what we're doing that day so i find it really random.
Has anyone had any trips away with the baby yet? How was it? We've had 3 nights away when she was around 4 months it was nice but I was ready to be back home in by the end x

Kittycaz · 13/10/2022 08:04

@YummyMummyXoX that's great to hear everything is been going well with your dd. How has your health been? I haven't too DS away yet but we've got one booked next year my plan is in family room we push double bed against the wall and I cosleep with ds while dh sleeps in single bed. I hope your holiday goes well. What type of porridge do you give your little one. X
