Please excuse this mini rant, I’m just so exhausted!

I’m 38+4 now and so tired and uncomfortable. A few weeks back baby was engaged on the left side and it wasn’t so bad, but she’s since moved and according to a scan last week is in a sort of triangle position with her head down, butt/back to the right and feet straight out to the left. She keeps trying to straighten her legs, it’s so painful!

I’ve never eaten so much in my life, I’m constipated and nauseous (but still starving??) and I haven’t had more than 4 hours sleep in a couple of months now. Most nights recently have been 1-2 hours max.

Is anyone else feeling like this? People whose LOs have arrived, did you feel like this beforehand?

I’m so worried I won’t have enough energy for labour when the time comes!

WildButterfly · 16/05/2022 17:59

Another May baby for the group 🥰

Baby Lily arrived early this morning via C section, my waters broke and I was 3cm but my cervix was still very far back and high. The doctors assessed me after a few hours and I had only progressed to 4cm, but still quite high, they also mentioned my pelvic arch being very narrow, so we decided for a section after many more hours of strong contractions leading me nowhere. This was definitely the right decision, since she’s a whooping 8lbs8, very long, baby!

surgery went fine, I’ve already been up and bout since this afternoon. And hospital food so far has been very nice!

@Crumpetloveliness yes thankfully all good again now. Hope you're keeping well.

@Honeymint minus the eating (I couldn't bloody eat more than a few bites at a time by 38 weeks) I felt the rest though but in the opposite direction from about 34/35 weeks until delivery. Baby girl had her feet lodged under my ribs on my right hand side and any time she moved it felt like my ribs were being twisted. And I was completely exhausted cause sleep was so broken (though that was partly from the toddler not just completely pregnancy related) You have my sympathy but not long to go now and it is 100% worth it.

JMill13 · 16/05/2022 18:20

@WildButterfly congratulations! Baby Lily is a beauty. Hope you're recovering nicely from the section and you get home from hospital soon 💕

GinnyBee · 16/05/2022 18:26

Congratulations @WildButterfly !

@Honeymint Yeah I was thoroughly fed up by the end! I had an easy pregnancy and no issues except some heartburn and occasional restless legs, but still was so uncomfortable. The day before my c-sec I still walked the dog as normal (2 x 1-2 hours in countryside), tidied the house one last time and cut my own hair, that’s how ok I still was, and yet hated it 😅 the bump got in the way, I was sick of sleeping on my side, sick of not sleeping much in general, his movements were uncomfortable, the constipation was annoying, peeing every 10 minutes was annoying. It was just rubbish. Hang in there! Not long now and everything will be better!

Crumpetloveliness · 16/05/2022 18:30

@WildButterfly congratulations! It’s amazing when you see them after birth isn’t and think how did they even fit?! I’m glad to hear the surgery went well and that you’re up and about already!

@Honeymint funnily enough was having a cry about exactly this earlier today. I’m 39 +6 today and same as you baby is in a curled up shrimp like position sideways. The kicks/straightening out are something else and invariably disco starts around 2am. I’ve also eaten two whole packets of biscuits today, probably doesn’t help with the tiredness. This time around have SPD and now getting funny nerve shooting pains down the inside of my legs, I’m so so so done. The thought of having this for another two weeks though, I feel like I’m a walking misery!!

YfenniChristie · 16/05/2022 19:08

@Crumpetloveliness We're doing well here thank you. DS has made some really good gains - we've managed to reduce his weight loss to 4%! He's being weighed again on Wed, and we're hoping to have him back to birth weight by Friday. So feeling a lot more relaxed here.

Met our health visitor for the first time today who seems lovely. Managed to talk about the birth without bursting into tears and double-checked a few things about the c-section site. In other news, I've somehow managed to complete skip my painkillers in today's routine and am very much regretting it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sarah239 · 16/05/2022 20:14

Congratulations to all the new arrivals!

I CANNOT stop going for a wee, please send help.

My accomplishment for today was that I finally got colostrum out of both boobs! :) Only 0.1ml (so far) but I'm proud even though it's slow progress! Going to have another go after a shower this evening and then freeze whatever I got today.

Also today is my EDD... the big 40 weeks... but, as expected, nothing's happened, it just feels like any other day...! Just trying to chill as much as possible. I know when baby is here I will wonder why I wished this free time away...

Zibidee · 16/05/2022 20:18

Currently in antenatal ward for induction, had pessary inserted at 4pm and just period-like cramps and aches in my pelvis and backside for the last 3hrs. Hoping this opens my cervix, midwife said it was tight shut but soft and baby's head very low when she put it in. I have a feeling this is gonna take ages!

EastMidsGem · 17/05/2022 15:53

@YfenniChristie I started to ease off my meds as I was running out after 4-5 days after the c-section and I really regretted it too! I rang the doctors and got some more which have taken me until a couple of days ago when I was running low again. So now I'm taking them every 8 hours instead of 4 just to keep them going a couple more days. I am a little sore but it feels like it's where the stitches must be on the inside rather than the external wound. I don't know if that's how it should be. I'm hoping the pain doesn't come back with a vengeance when I come off them completely. I still plan to take the paracetamol for a week or so though just in case.

I'm having big high and low days depending on my tiredness but today has been a great day as baby Jack is finally above his birth weight and is now a healthy 8lb 8oz with a big fat belly! He is now finally begging for milk when he's hungry instead of me having to force feed him and set alarms. Although still setting alarms for my meds so I'm not sleeping as much as I could - hubby is back at work as of last Friday so I'm doing all the night time feeds so he can be well rested. My feet have finally gone back to normal size too so gradually things are getting better

JMill13 · 17/05/2022 16:09

@EastMidsGem what meds are you taking post section?
I don't feel too bad pain wise at the minute thankfully, I'm down to just taking paracetamol as of yesterday; though have plenty of dihydrocodeine left should I need it. My pain feels more like really bad bruising now (mostly) so doing a lot better this time round than last time. Scared that it'll all hit me out of the blue though as only a week post surgery. Taking arnica tablets as well to try and help the bruising, no clue if they actually work but heard/read good things so wondering if that's what is helping me this time round?

GinnyBee · 17/05/2022 16:16

I haven’t really had any pain after my c-section. Been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen on schedule and been totally fine. I’m aware of the scar but it’s not at all sore.

Today I feel like a prisoner of the sofa! Baby keeps wanting to feed and doesn’t seem to want to settle for a nap in his box like he has done most days, today he’ll only nap being held. But he is only a week old so I’ll allow it 😅

EastMidsGem · 17/05/2022 16:31

@JMill13 and @GinnyBee very jealous at your levels of pain! But maybe mine is easing now. Maybe I just have a low pain threshold! Though the GP when I rang to get the extra meds said not to feel bad because it is major surgery and everyone heals differently. So I'll cling on to that! They gave me dihydrocodeine and diclofenac

JMill13 · 17/05/2022 16:37

@EastMidsGem you'll get there. We all heal differently. It's not an easy recovery. the midwife said to me the other day, "don't be a martyr and keep taking your painkillers even if you think you're fine" she's definitely right, I forgot the other day and by dinner time I was wrecked and needed the codeine. Today i forgot and lifted the toddler so hoping I've not set myself back.

Crumpetloveliness · 17/05/2022 17:06

@Zibidee how are you doing? Hope the induction is going or rather has gone well!!🤞🤞🤞🤞

Pain tolerance, I’m wondering if there is some sort of assessment you can do which tells you yeh you’ll be fine with G&A or no take the epidural as soon as it’s offered 😂

Zibidee · 17/05/2022 17:27

@Crumpetloveliness it's still going, just waiting for a doc to do a VE to tell me if he can break my waters.
I think go with the flow with pain options, you don't have to wait to be offered an epidural, just ask if you want it.

Crumpetloveliness · 17/05/2022 18:32

@Zibidee will keep everything crossed, things went quickly for me when I was induced and they broke my waters. Hopefully you’ve managed to get some rest beforehand 🤞

YfenniChristie · 17/05/2022 22:15

@EastMidsGem @JMill13 @GinnyBee I was discharged with paracetamol and diclofenac, which I take at midday and again just before bed. I'm not in too much pain, but there is a general ache-y-ness, and some tenderness around the lower abdomen. I have no idea what is normal so I'm finding difficult to judge what is acceptable or not. We have a midwife visiting tomorrow to weigh DS again, and I might ask if she'll double-check the site for me.

We've started having visitors and had the in-laws visit today. Only stayed for a few hours and came armed with lunch and dinner for me and DH for the next four days, plus bits and pieces to help with healing and increasing milk supply. My parents will be visiting tomorrow. Had anyone else had visitors yet?

JMill13 · 17/05/2022 22:26

@YfenniChristie that's good that it's just achey. I honestly think what's normal for one will be different for another. My experience from the emergency section last time to the planned one this time is so different. My pain levels are a lot less this time, bruising (so far anyway) is a lot more minimal as well. My pain seems to be more like a burning sensation around the incision site. Then other times it just feels like how severe bruising feels. It's a tidier incision this time as well even though it's the same one as last time.

We've had visitors since the day I got home from hospital. It's been a bit crap. Easier that I'm not breastfeeding, I definitely wouldn't have coped with it at all if I was. Today was the first day the only person that came to the house was my dad and he only came cause he'd bought us nappies so he literally dropped them off, read the toddler a book and left, whereas the rest of the week everyone has been sitting for ages. Would love someone to bring us food!

GinnyBee · 18/05/2022 00:23

We live next door to my in-laws so have popped round theirs to show the baby, but haven’t had anyone come to our house yet.

I’m really finding nights tough now 😴 little man refuses to be put down even when he’s fast asleep on me first. As soon as I try to put him in his crib he starts fussing and eventually that evolves into crying, he just won’t stay asleep anywhere except being held and of course it’s not safe to sleep with a baby on my chest so I’m forced to try to keep myself awake which is getting harder and harder 😩 at least while my husband is on paternity we can share the nights and work in shifts but I dread to think how I’ll cope next week when he goes back to work.

EastMidsGem · 18/05/2022 04:00

@YfenniChristie we had a few visitors in the first week but mostly my parents then most other family from weep

EastMidsGem · 18/05/2022 04:02

I totally didn't finish that post and dropped the phone on my face... whoops! Most other visitors from week 2. Still got a couple of family members to go.

I have noticed this evening that my wound is quite red and inflamed around the centre so going to ring the doctors in the morning

MissM94 · 18/05/2022 06:59

Hi all! Baby boy was born in his due date on Saturday
.. so I'm 4 days In and absolutely clueless 😂😂 he won't settle at night in his next to me, sleeps perfect in the day in his Moses basket, so I moved the Moses basket into the bedroom settled him last night after a feed and change and he slept a solid 3 hours and just woke for a feed, so fed and settled him again and put the next to me back on and he just fidgets and eventually wakes himself up and just lay there like 👀 then gets hiccups. Do I write the next to me crib off for a few weeks? First night was perfect in the crib but he's been so unsettled since and was waking every hour the other night! Just don't know what to do

Bubbasmama2017 · 18/05/2022 08:35

Lovely to hear about all these new arrivals!
Our little girl arrived yesterday morning after a very quick labour which was quite a surprise after having a long long labour with DD1. Totally besotted and scared of hurting her in equal measure!
Milk hasn't come in yet and she's feeding a lot, anyone using a dummy yet? She's in a Moses basket in our room although didn't use it much last night!

JMill13 · 18/05/2022 08:59

Congrats everyone on your new arrivals!

@GinnyBee last time round when my partner went back to work we still did shifts, sort of. Basically he'd do any feeds, wakes or changes between about 7:30-12ish and I'd go to bed then we'd switch. Meant we both got a decent stretch of sleep and weren't complete zombies. Could something like that work for you?

@MissM94 both of mine seem to dislike the Next2Me at that start. My boy was so small I think at that beginning the only place he would sleep was In the carrycot of the pram so we used to just put him in there and then had it in the Next2Me and gradually worked up to the Next2Me when he was ready and could wear a sleeping bag. This time baby girl sleeps in the carrycot no problem all day but just rolls round the Next2Me like a madwoman so we've taken to swaddling her which works amazing and she sleeps all night in there (apart from feeds / changes obviously).

Also I swear by the LoveToDream swaddle up sleeping bags. They looks weird AF but my little boy slept amazing when we used them until he was big enough for the proper sleeping bags
