@PeeAche2 I know easier said that done, but don't let those barstewards ruin the end of your pregnancy! I can't imagine the stress you're going through. Sounds horrendous, but really good that you've got colleagues testimonies.

Welcome @Katiebaby13 :)

I will continue trimming down there, but if it's wild when I give birth, I couldn't care less! My husband trimmed for me last time, so I'll probably get him to do the same now 😅

I've hit a wall of exhaustion recently, and really struggling to get past it. Work is tiring me out, which considering all I do is sit on my bum now, really surprises me 😂

Slanketeer · 11/04/2022 19:13

@PeeAche2 Just to second the recommendation for Pregnant Then Screwed if you've not had independent advice already. I had similar problems with my employer (NHS) and they were great at talking me through how to raise a formal grievance properly, what documentation I needed to have and what all the steps would be to take things to an employment tribunal. In my case actually just being able to say to my employer that I'd had independent legal advice so they couldn't just dismiss my concerns, together with raising a formal grievance, was enough to make them completely backtrack on their original position. Hoping you might have similar success. I fully appreciate how daunting the prospect of an employment tribunal at this stage in pregancy/early post partum was and how much dealing with the whole situation really sucked the joy out of pregnancy for months. Will be thinking of you!

And a definite no way from me to any deforestation... there is absolutely no way I'm risking adding being itchy to all my collection of other pregnancy symptoms!

I've just started working from home which has been a massive and very welcome change of pace from being on my feet all day. Hoping I now have more time to be active on the threads and to actually properly start to prepare for this baby arriving! :)

Octoblockisadick · 11/04/2022 19:27

@PeeAche2 that is absolutely horrific and definitely illegal. Its funny about your friend though, definitely remind her if she ever has kids haha. I'm currently trying to keep up with the shaving, but I can't see anymore so I think it's rather patchy. Can't imagine asking my husband to shave for me though 🤣! I might get a pedicure when I start my mat leave, but I'm not planning on going for a Brazilian any time soon!

@BunBun221 I'm so sorry about your dad, and your care sounds awful. Hopefully the cardo people are easier to get hold of this time.

mrkb · 11/04/2022 20:06

@BunBun221 so sorry to hear about your dad, and hope that he's getting the care he needs. It is reassuring to know that lots of others aren't having the beautiful glow up experience of Rihanna though!

I've got my 32 week midwife appointment on Wednesday and plan on raising that I think I want a maternal request caesarean (about 80/20% sure). I'm a bit nervous as I tried to ask about caesareans last time and the midwife just cut me off and became quite snippy/rude and refused to engage. It really took me by surprise and I felt chastised but going in determined not to be fobbed off this time! I have never seen the same midwife twice anyway so maybe this time I'll get someone more receptive 😅 is anyone else considering a MRCS?

Vimto1991 · 11/04/2022 20:20

Just had my final antenatal class (other than a water birth one at the end of the month) via my NHS trust, which is a two hour zoom session. I feel overwhelmed and a little bit scared of what I've taken on in wanting to become a mom!
Any one else starting to feel a bit anxious about giving birth in two months? This is 100% planned pregnancy but I started wondering how will I cope and raise a baby!!

When I asked about hybrid feeding they mentioned it's not best to start until 4-6 weeks until baby is used to latching on your boob... but do you have excess milk in the first month? Otherwise, what's the point bottling it if it will only cause nipple confusion. :s

Brightsmoke · 11/04/2022 20:37

@vimto, I expressed and bottle fed from about day 6 last time. I appreciate not every baby is the same, but my boy had no issues switching between the 2. My husband loved that he could do the bedtime feed too. I'd do whatever you think will suit you. My midwife was happy back then that I was expressing and bottle feeding. Even if the bottle feed looked like strawberry milkshake at times 😷 (I didn't actually feed him the bloody milk)

Rolledthedice · 11/04/2022 21:08

Those who have been having growth scans - has anyone else measured a smaller femur length compared to everything else? We went for a private scan and the femur was under the lowest percentile (head and abdomen closer to 40th / 50th percentile). The sonographer rang her consultant to check we didn’t need an NHS follow up but said because overall measurements were fine we didn’t need to worry. Of course I stupidly Googled it and now I’m concerned about what it could mean! I’m moving trusts so my care is all over the place right now. I guess I’m looking for reassurance that I should try and relax and not let this cause more anxiety!

MrsNT · 11/04/2022 21:33

@vimto1991 i totally get what you mean about feeling overwhelmed.. had my class too but just remind your selves they have to give all the information available and not all of it will apply to everyone so can be info overload.

@rolledthedice im having growth scans and mine was in the 5th percentile while everything else as you said was 40 50 percentile or above. Haveing researched online it could be genetics .DH and I are not very tall. Im about 5'5 and hes about 5'7/8 so could be genetics/ethnicities aswell. As long as the hospital has said its ok I wouldnt worry.

PeeAche2 · 11/04/2022 21:35

Welcome to @Katiebaby13 ! Better late than never!! 😁

Vimto1991 · 11/04/2022 21:37

@Brightsmoke
Ah this is true, I really wanted DH to be involved as I know it can be really good for bonding, and may give my nipples a rest bite!! I'll have to just see how we get on. :)

@MrsNT yeah it's a lot of info at once, feels like I am studying for a test! What scares me most is all the SIDS info, I'm so scared I''ll make a mistake and something bad will happen, but it's all just about trying our best and following their advice I guess! Like you say, not all of the info will apply but they will give it all anyway haha

Would help if I posted a link that would actually work. Sorry!

PlodandPod · 11/04/2022 21:44

@Vimto1991 Also a bit confused about hybrid feeding as like you say, everything I've read/been told is don't try the bottle too soon. So many 'mind blown' moments trying to get my head around some things 🤯

@Brightsmoke Laughing at your strawberry milk reference! How long did you find you were bleeding for when feeding?

Brightsmoke · 11/04/2022 21:48

@PlodandPod a good 10 days or so. Then I got nipple shields as I knew I wouldn't keep feeding with the pain. They were amazing, but then found my boy wouldn't feed without them for a while, can't win! But I did wean him off eventually and all was fine. So, I guess I recommend getting nipple shields ready on prime 😂

Vimto1991 · 11/04/2022 21:49

@plodandpod it's mental isn't it! I am hoping it all just clicks because I think to myself 100 years ago women wouldn't have had any lessons they'd have just got on with it so we are lucky really, so I think a lot will come naturally... I hope!

Also wondering the same for @brightsmoke as I had a convo with my mom who bled whilst breastfeeding me, and gave up after 3 days as it was too painful. I told her they would support her these days to get through it, and she said no, not possible, even midwife told her if she wanted to stop she could, and she just switched to formula! I did tell her there is far more support 31 years later!

PlodandPod · 11/04/2022 22:17

@Brightsmoke I've got some on my wish list already funnily enough so I'll probably buy some in advance. Thanks for the advice!

@Vimto1991 I really want to BF, have bought an Elvie pump in anticipation of doing so but also don't want to get caught up in it all if it's a struggle. At the end of the day, baby being fed something is the most important thing but I do hope it will just click too and come naturally like you say. Some will be trial and error, what works for one person won't work for another. I'd like to think there is more support now 🤞🏼

Rolledthedice · 11/04/2022 22:50

Thanks @MrsNT! My partner and I are both about 5’8 and slim builds so you could be right and it’s just genetics. I’ll mention it at my next midwife appointment. I swear the anxiety has kicked up a gear since moving into the third trimester! Like many others have said on this thread, pregnancy is not all it’s cracked up to be!

EarlGreywithLemon · 11/04/2022 22:54

A couple of things that helped with the breastfeeding the first time: in the early days, expressing a few drops of milk and putting it onto the nipple after every feed. Also leaving the nipple to “air” for a couple of minutes afterwards (midwife advised this in hospital). I used lots and lots of Lansinoh as well.

I also watched a number of videos on what a good latch looks like pre birth - I think those were suggested by the NCT breastfeeding teacher and by the NHS hospital breastfeeding class.

Ultimately though, we were lucky that my daughter latched and fed well. I think there’s a big element of luck here (same with the birth) and not necessarily down to what anyone did “right”.

MrsNT · 11/04/2022 23:13

@rolledthedice what was the femur percentile for urs

MrsNT · 11/04/2022 23:15

What pumps are you all investing in. I bought medela free style double from boots on offer . But wondering if elvie is better?

Rolledthedice · 11/04/2022 23:25

@MrsNT it was 52.2 at 30 weeks 4 days. That puts it under the 5th percentile. It was a private scan though, so I’ll definitely ask the midwife about it as the NHS scans are more detailed! What was yours?

fpeg · 12/04/2022 07:02

You were all in my dreams last night, very odd! We were all on holiday together on a small fictional Mediterranean island which was very beautiful and sandy, warm seas and stunning architecture. @destiEos and @JAR1981 we entered a photography competition and we're battling each other to get the best shots with these weird cameras we were given. No idea who won as I woke up for a wee at that point 😂

What does this say about me? 😂

fpeg · 12/04/2022 07:07

For the breastfeeding front I've been reading Gina Ford as recommended by a couple of friends who said it was a lifesaver for them with subsequent children and if I'm honest it suits my personality a lot. I know it won't be for everyone by a long chalk. But she talks about introducing the bottle fairly early on, which both my friends did and never had any nipple confusion. Only friends that did were those that left it later. Obviously my friend circle does not make a massive case study but I plan to follow her guidance and see where it leads. Approaching it with an open mind that LO will probably laugh in my face!

InvisibleDragon · 12/04/2022 08:53

Thanks to everyone who had advice about slings last week - got a boba stretchy wrap one off marketplace and I love it. Have successfully tied it with a stuffed toy in too!

Spending the next 2 weeks in a stuffy seminar room on the most uncomfortable chairs ... Even colleagues who aren't pregnant are moaning about their backs. Also got about 3 hours sleep last night for who knows what reason. Grump.

@PeeAche2 your work is being ridiculous. So sorry you have to deal with such utter bs at an already stressful time.

Jammymare · 12/04/2022 09:12

Just catching up and I’m am absolutely furious on your behalf @PeeAche2 I thought my workplace was being shit, but yours are absolute wank badgers. I really hope that you are able to screw the bastards over, but I think they’ll back track pretty sharpish once they’ve had to seek HR advice
