Just had a consultant appointment at the hospital and have been booked for induction on 24th May, so highly unlikely to be a June baby now! OH's birthday is 28th May so he's super keen for that now, but I'm not as that would mean a 4 day induction (which I know isn't that abnormal but a girl can hope it all progressed faster 😂)

pregnancydiaries · 20/04/2022 10:39

@fpeg amazing news and only 5 weeks until you meet your little bundle!

Silly question but when they told you May were you a bit sad about it not being June? We are the same as looking like section will be 30th May (if we can avoid an earlier labour with this hospital stay...) and for some reason I was sad he wasn't going to have a June birthday 😂

HORMONES!!!

fpeg · 20/04/2022 11:15

@pregnancydiaries yes I've thought about her being a June baby for so long (even if we were only just scraping it at the 1st June), but on my side she'll be the only May baby so there is a bit of compensation.

One of the ladies at my yoga class was induced and she gave quite a lot of good info on it and how even though they start you with the pessaries, they then kind of put you into a holding pattern until they have space for you to go into labour (women labouring naturally go straight to labour ward). When they have enough bodies available they then progress you to the next stage with waters breaking +/- drugs, so can be 5 day delay at the moment between starting induction and actually getting going (thanks covid!). It's good to know this in advance though so I'm prepared for the long wait!. Consultant also said 5% don't progress with pessaries on first go so then stop for 24 hours before trying again or potentially balloon induction. Can switch to Caesar if you feel you want to (which after the 6th day no action my yoga friend did), so I'm now prepared for literally all possibilities (except if she decides she's coming even sooner than that - I'm not prepared for that 😂)

pregnancydiaries · 20/04/2022 11:26

@fpeg woman next to me in the ward is currently on day 4 and I've been here since day dot, it has been a long 4 days for her!!!

fpeg · 20/04/2022 11:27

@pregnancydiaries I clearly need to do everything I possibly can to encourage this baby to think it's time for the outside world at 39 weeks!

pregnancydiaries · 20/04/2022 11:28

@fpeg yes plenty curries and sex before you come in for induction 😂😂

fpeg · 20/04/2022 11:30

😂

All recommendations welcome 😁 raspberry leaf tea, dates, clary sage also on the list 😂

destiEos · 20/04/2022 12:15

@JAR1981 exact same thing happened to me with GD, everything cancelled and rebooked in another department - it didn't go smoothly and I don't know who to call anymore. Also got everything cancelled and rebooked again when they measured short bones, so even more confusion. Not everything has been rebooked either.. And today called the Maternity Helpline - recorded message saying no one was available and hung up! The hospital line was busy for 10 minutes too. Eventually got through to someone and they've advised me to come in - I'm in the 'why isn't he moving?' club today. I'm sure everything's fine, but am here anyway 🤞🏼

destiEos · 20/04/2022 12:21

@Vimto1991 @Rolledthedice hope you're both doing ok - if you haven't been referred to the foetal specialists in sure you're fine. They do look at everything and mine was measuring small femur and humerus, 5th percentile or under - so I think you guys are fine.💕

Vimto1991 · 20/04/2022 12:34

@destiEos yes good thank you, they didn’t seem to be concerned, they said it’s quite difficult to measure femur accurately so hoping the next scan is of no concern, too. Have you had a re scan yet?

baby is having hiccups at the moment but after awhile it makes them go wild. They start thrashing about, I think they get fed up. I feel so sorry for them. 🙁 second time today this has happened! Poor baby!

Vimto1991 · 20/04/2022 12:45

@destiEos sorry didn’t read your post above that - hope all goes okay and baby is just in an awkward position. My movements have been slower the past two days (other than hiccups), but I know baby is in birth position, and I have an anterior placenta. Also babies are getting big so I guess less big movements are expected? Fingers crossed for you and your baby

Flowerbug1994 · 20/04/2022 12:55

Does anybody else find the busier they are also the less movements they seem to have ? I’ve worked from home for 3 weeks and today is my first day in the office as I have had at least a couple of movements every hour but they always seem slower when am in here

destiEos · 20/04/2022 13:14

@PeeAche2 sorry to hear what you're going through, sounds like you are being well looked after and if they think you should stay in then you'll be in the best place.

I've just been monitored and baby's heart rate was at the high end but came down while I've been here so they're sending me home.

As everyone else says, you go with your gut and well done for getting seen when you were worried. I hope you and baby settle and get some rest now 🌸

mrkb · 20/04/2022 13:25

So much to catch up on!

Hope that you're okay @PeeAche2 and being well looked after in the hospital. If it reassures, a woman I know unexpectedly had her baby 2 months early and both her and baby are fine and well - it's really amazing what they can do these days!

Also in the anterior placenta/slow movements club! What I don't get is sometimes I can feel loads on the sides, top/bottom and then other times I can feel hardly anything - perhaps a tiny roll? I'm just going to assume that there's still a fair bit of space in there and sometimes she's right under the placenta but it's hard not to worry. Right now I've just felt 2 or 3 of the faintest little taps and some moments of gentle pressure/pushing feeling - don't know whether to count it as movement or evidence of reduced movement!!

How many different sizes are people packing for hospital? We've got lots of newborn stuff but now I'm worrying that we might have either a giant or a tiny baby and not have clothes to fit! Is it worth getting a couple of smaller size (tiny baby?) and also packing some 0-3 months, or is it ok to just pack newborn clothes? Also we've packed 3x short sleeved vests and 3x sleepsuits - is that enough? We made a list on the weekend and honestly I've packed less to go on holiday 😂

destiEos · 20/04/2022 13:27

@fpeg @PeeAche2 @pregnancydiaries I'm booked in for c-section 25th May... We had a choice of days and that was the earliest. Tempted to move it to the 29th, as that's our wedding anniversary... But then maybe best to have different dates for those 2 important days..?

Flowerbug1994 · 20/04/2022 13:58

@mrkb i am taking mostly newborn stuff as that up to 10lb and am having growth scans so should be under 10lb. Also taking an emergency pack in 0-3 incase for some reason he is a bouncer and it’s been missed. By pack I mean am taking the advice I’ve seen online and putting grower, vest, nappy and bib in clear bags and labelling. That way if I do need a section and can’t dress him myself I can label a bag first outfit and so on. How many are you planning on taking in ?

EarlGreywithLemon · 20/04/2022 14:07

@mrkb taking only newborn, apart from one baby grow in 0-3. That's for sentimental reasons only - it's the baby grow our daughter went home in. She was 50th centile and the 0-3 absolutely swamped her! So unless he's huge, I think newborn will be fine. If smaller than newborn is needed, my husband will just have to pop out and get some!

EarlGreywithLemon · 20/04/2022 14:10

@mrkb sorry for the double tag. I'd maybe take 4 of everything (vests & baby grows) just in case. We had 4 of each and went through them very quickly. Then again she was a very vomity baby.

4thtimethecharm · 20/04/2022 14:14

Thinking of you, @PeeAche2. So hope you and your baby girl are doing ok.

destiEos · 20/04/2022 14:18

@Vimto1991 yep, baby has been having hiccups all over the place here too. Except today, of course - until they hooked me up to the monitor and then: voila! Hiccups. A glass of water and he started doing somersaults too ☺️ The doctor of course told me that it's fine and to come in if I'm worried again..

@mrkb going to do mine today, I swear. The hospital gave me a list, I'll attach in a sec. Doesn't mention sizes... Or hats, which I thought were needed?

RoseValleyRambles · 20/04/2022 14:19

Hot tip for anyone else struggling to pee in a urine sample pot, and too disorganised to do it at home: grab a plastic cup from the water fountain, pee in that, then pour into the sample pot. Voila.

destiEos · 20/04/2022 14:19

Hospital list:

Due June 2022 - thread 10! Rolling into third trimester!
mrkb · 20/04/2022 14:22

@Flowerbug1994 that makes sense! We're taking 3x sleep suits and 3x vests, a pair of scratch mits, a pair of socks and a hat, a large soft muslin (blanket/swaddle size) and a baby towel. And then a few extra muslins just in case. I'm conscious that in June it's probably going to be pretty warm out so don't need to be packing lots of layers for baby. All in newborn size.

Good to hear that 0-3 is probably a bit big and not to worry. Maybe we'll pack one sleepsuit 0-3 but I think, like you say @EarlGreywithLemon, if she's really tiny DH can be quickly despatched to pick anything up! My scans (last at 29 weeks) have so far been hovering around the 50th centile so hopefully not needed! I think I get one more at 36 weeks?

I've got DH to pack the bag (under my supervision!) so that he also knows where everything is and I think he likes feeling responsible for something 😅

What 'essentials' (home comforts or otherwise!) are people packing just for themselves? Whenever I've been in hospital overnight/longer stays before I've just been happy to have their gown and possibly an oversize T-shirt with socks - I'm not really a dressing gown / matching pyjamas person - and every birth photo I've seen on Instagram or in NCT the mum is always naked so wondering if I really need to be getting a maternity tankini? I've managed to hold off buying anything maternity specific this whole time so not keen to start spending money with only 6 weeks to go!

Also, anyone who's been through this before - any recommendations for maternity knickers? Should I get the section ones anyway because you never know if you might end up with an EMCS? Or are they a hassle if you've not had a section? Are there some brands that are more comfy? Should I be looking to get disposable knickers or just comfy M&S ones and use pads? Or splashing out on maternity 'period'-pants! I find it so hard to tell what's just consumerism selling me things (and I can't resist a gadget at the best of times 🤦🏻‍♀️) and what's actually just a good product to have!

I feel like im mostly sorted on baby stuff and have realised I've barely got anything for me eg breast pads!

mrkb · 20/04/2022 14:23

Double post! Thanks for the recommendation for 4 @EarlGreywithLemon and thanks for the hospital list @destiEos - I was just using one I found on the boots website! Interesting to see no need for hats!!

Octoblockisadick · 20/04/2022 14:28

@destiEos glad everything is OK, always worth getting checked though. I think a wedding anniversary baby would be lovely tbh, depends if you felt up for waiting those few extra days!

@Flowerbug1994 me too, I think I'm probably just less aware when I'm really busy because of all the distractions. I definitely still feel movements, but I'm less aware of the smaller ones when I'm busy I would say.

@mrkb I would probably just take newborn to be fair. Maybe a 0-1 month if you think baby might be bigger. You will likely not be in for long, and baby clothes are so easy to get at supermarkets and things. You don't want to end up with loads of tiny clothes that don't fit, or tons of huge stuff that won't fit for weeks. It would be easy enough to pick up other sizes, even if you sent your partner to a shop if you had to stay in hospital tbh.

I'm planning on bagging things like @Flowerbug1994 says. Thinking 1st outfit, going home outfit, and maybe 2 spares. 1st outfit will be 0-1m as its the same as my daughter wore. I might take 2 newborn and 1 other 0-1 if he's expected to be huge haha.
