@Rolledthedice good luck with your scan! Yeah they must look at the bigger picture, I am sure they are so many measurements day in and day out so if they aren’t worried I shouldn’t be either (easier said than done when they give us percentages like this!!) 🙈

PeeAche2 · 19/04/2022 12:41

Baby hasn't moved one jot since "the event". I'm now at the hospital and she is alive but her heart rate is slowed and now we're both being monitored.

Vimto1991 · 19/04/2022 12:49

@PeeAche2 I’m glad you went with your instinct, even midwives can be wrong. Fingers crossed you are both okay!!

Brightsmoke · 19/04/2022 12:53

@Rolledthedice I haven't even though another what to wear. Probably either a BF strap top of a BF bra and pants. I have maternity cossies so don't want to buy something else I won't use after. What are your plans for the birth?

Glad you went in @PeeAche2! Hope all is OK

Flowerbug1994 · 19/04/2022 13:20

@PeeAche2 so glad you went with your instinct… try and remember your in the safest place you can be now and hopefully they get a consultant to you. Xxxx

beansprout55 · 19/04/2022 13:22

Hope all ok @PeeAche2. Thinking of you. So glad you went with your gut - I find my midwife just fobs me off, I'm sure lots do! Just proves the point we know our bodies and babies best. xx

Jammymare · 19/04/2022 13:36

Hope all is ok @PeeAche2 glad you listened to your own instincts.
I had my 32 week midwife appointment this morning, my midwife is so lovely and she has persuaded me to make a GP appointment with a view to getting signed off work for my last 2-3 weeks before Mat leave. I’m still feeling irrationally guilty about it. Will see what the GP says

Prema112 · 19/04/2022 14:03

@PeeAche2 So good to hear you are being monitored and well done for trusting your instinct. You're in the best place, praying all is ok!

@Vimto1991 Great to hear you had a good scan and baby is in right position! I've got a growth scan tmw and I think they will also look at baby position as I'm pretty sure he is still chilling out sideways...

C1ueless22 · 19/04/2022 14:10

@jammymare just in case you were not aware, employers can start your maternity leave early if you are off with pregnancy related sickness after 36 weeks. Not sure whether they always do or not, I am currently signed off due back at 34 weeks and been told that they will start my maternity leave early if still off at 36 but I work for a rubbish company so wouldn't expect anything less of them.

Vimto1991 · 19/04/2022 14:29

@C1ueless22 I’ve heard that, too. Seems so unfair considering one is sickness related and ones to actually take care of the baby. 😡

My employee still hasn’t bought forward my maternity leave. Requested 8th June originally but I’m taking it 23rd May, emailed three times. If they don’t sort it they’ll end up paying me two weeks wages 😂 their own fault.

Jammymare · 19/04/2022 14:47

My mat leave is due to start at 36 weeks anyway :)

C1ueless22 · 19/04/2022 15:06

@jammymare that works perfectly then 😀

Octoblockisadick · 19/04/2022 15:11

Been away for the weekend with very crappy signal so I've missed tons!
Just had a growth scan, they reckon baby is almost 6lb already at 32 +3 😯. DH a bit freaked out by that but I'm not overly bothered. Assuming around 0.5lb per week growth it puts him at 9lb 7/8 ish by due date which I don't think is too bad. I asked about booking a c section for 42 weeks, but the consultant did say looking at me, shape of me, size of baby, position of baby etc she thinks I'll not go over. We shall see I guess! @AlbatrossSociety how many weeks are you? %wise, femur of 51st, head on 95th, abdo on 97.5th and weight on 97.5th for me haha.

@Vimto1991 I definitely found I slept better after my daughter arrived than I did when pregnant last time, so fingers crossed you'll be able to sleep soon! I'm planning on just a bikini top for labour, I've got a string tie one so I can just tie it as tight or loose as needed. Plus I don't want to spend money on something specific for labour tbh!

@annie1994 I had an elective for my daughter, honestly it was great. Only planning on a vbac this time because if it goes well I won't need to stay in overnight etc, but I have no opposition to a section tbh. I was alright by about day 3, and walking around doing everything as normal (just a bit slowly) by day 7. But it does depend on the person, I know others have had it rougher. Peppermint helps for trapped wind too. Either the drops or tea.

Oh @pregnancydiaries that sounds awful, I hope you are doing OK Flowers

@Flowerbug1994 I would recommend writing a birth plan, if only for the fact it makes you consider your options and be aware of what is available. There are quite a few good podcasts about birth plans. The nhs website has a decent template too.

Happy birthday for yesterday @JAR1981!!

@PeeAche2 always get checked if you feel something isn't right, better to be safe. Hopefully everything is fine and you are in the right place now. 🤞 the monitoring goes well.

Letsbekindplease · 19/04/2022 15:59

@PeeAche2 glad you are getting checked out. Let us know how you go.

I am already planning on treating myself to new mattress topper, pillows and duvet when baby arrives. I have been sleeping so terrible for weeks and all pillows, duvet are old. Just not sure where to get a decent topper. I found that after I had my son 3 years ago, the mattress felt so uncomfortable. Nearly typed “can’t wait to have a decent sleep again” lol yeah right.

AlbatrossSociety · 19/04/2022 16:30

@MrsTwentyNine @Octoblockisadick very nice to know I'm not alone! I'm 31 weeks so by the .5lbs per week theory, if their 4.8lb prediction is correct, baby will be 9lbs by 40 weeks. Although I'm average height now, I was 9lbs 6, my husband was a 6lb twin born at 36 weeks and is now 6ft 4 so I suppose we should have expected a big baby. Head circumference was 50th percentile, abdominal circumference 93rd percentile and femur length 78th percentile.

I had my midwife appointment today and my fundal measurement was 32cm so nothing would have been picked up if it weren't for private scan yesterday! She did tell me to cut down on sugar and carbs which I didn't find very helpful as I'm already trying and it made me feel a bit like I'm doing something wrong that's causing it. I've got another scan at 33 weeks and if that confirms big baby then I'll be back on consultant led pathway.

My sister who had similar measurements and ended up with vaginal delivery of a 10lb 10oz baby told me to book in for an ELCS, but I'd really rather go for vaginal if possible.

AlbatrossSociety · 19/04/2022 16:31

@PeeAche2 how are you doing??

Rolledthedice · 19/04/2022 17:14

@Vimto1991 just back from my growth scan and femur is 10th percentile with head and abdominal about 50th. They aren’t concerned as all the long bones seem in proportion and growing. Blood flow from placenta is all good too phew. I have to go back in 3 weeks for another scan as I just transferred trusts so they have nothing to plot it against other than my 20 week anomaly scan. I think the EFW is 10th overall which seems quite small to me given my partner and I are both 5’8 but I’ll try not to worry about that! Do you have another scan booked in?

@Brightsmoke so far my plan is to use the private midwife for a home birth (didn’t want to risk nhs not having HB midwives available). I’ll use gas and air, tens and birth pool. We’ve also just hired a doula, which will definitely help my partner as much as me. I don’t want any VEs due to an existing condition so hoping to be left to labour privately in my own home with minimal poking!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 How about you?

Vimto1991 · 19/04/2022 17:27

@Rolledthedice sounds pretty similar to me and glad they aren’t concerned about your baby, too! I have another scan in four weeks which is the second growth scan. I get two because of my thyroid. I think as long as you follow the course of the plotting then baby is developing okay so makes sense to give you another scan, plus means you get to see them again! Hopefully yours cooperated better. Mine was facing away refusing to move their head 😂
My DH is 5’7 and I’m 5’4 so maybe 8th femur just means they’ll be short? 😂 do you have short people in your family? Their belly being 83rd is probably down to my bad eating habits 😅😬 then again, I have little legs and a big belly… :)

Rolledthedice · 19/04/2022 17:37

@Vimto1991 yes we keep joking that the poor thing will have little legs! My side of the family are all above average height and I have long legs, but my partner is also 5’8 (so below average for a man) and he’s a slim build with shorter legs than me. His mum is also quite short, so I reckon it’s from his side! Yes you’re right that it’s the growth curve they are most keen on, I’ll keep telling her to grow. 😉 My bump is small and neat, which is nice in some ways but not what I expected as I’m a slim (not skinny) size 12. I’m not small and petite so I guess I expected a 50th percentile baby. Baby growth is so strange.

That’s funny your little one was camera shy aww! 😂 But good that they are in the right position, hopefully they stay that way.

Brightsmoke · 19/04/2022 17:38

@Rolledthedice I hadn't thought about private midwife, but not being available when I need them does worry me, which is part of the reason I bought a pool rather than hired like my initial plan, at least I can get some money back! Lol. But planning the same pain relief as you. Opting for injection to get placenta out faster, and vitamin C. I had 2 stretch and sweeps last time, that basically just confirmed I was no way near labour, so not sure whether I'll go for them this time or not. Depends how desperate I am by then 😂

Rolledthedice · 19/04/2022 17:55

@Brightsmoke If I didn’t have a history of vaginismus then I’d consider a sweep if it felt like a good idea, but unfortunately it’s the VE side of things that makes me most anxious and I’m keen to avoid anything going in! 🙈

I’ve been so happy with the private midwife route - thank goodness for my MW! I recently moved and transferred trusts, and getting things moved across in NHS has been tricky to say the least. Through it all, I’ve had my private MW and she’s kept me calm and we’ve got to know each other. She was in the NHS for 20 years before going private. Of course you are already a mum so a seasoned pro compared to me! 😊 I’m sure you will be ok with home birth provision - perhaps find out how many home births they’ve had in recent months? There’s a good Facebook group dedicated to home birth that I also joined.

Can I ask why it is you’re going down the home birth route this time?

annie1994 · 19/04/2022 18:39

@Octoblockisadick thank you for your message about your elective caesarean! I saw the obstetrician today and mentioned it and he said due to my first birth they’d definitely allow me to have one if that’s what I chose. He’s sending out an appointment to discuss it in more detail.

I’m on antidepressants so me and baby have to stay in for at least 48 hours after anyway. How long did you have to stay in?

@PeeAche2 thinking of you and hoping everything’s ok!

InvisibleDragon · 19/04/2022 18:46

Hope everything is ok @PeeAche2 - you definitely did the right thing getting checked!

EarlGreywithLemon · 19/04/2022 19:53

@annie1994 interesting to hear - I’m on antidepressants too (citalopram) but I don’t think they’re keeping me in extra. The consultant said today they expected me to be fast tracked to discharge post c section if all goes well. I will make sure I flag the citalopram again just in case, but she did ask me about medication today and wrote it down. Good to be aware though!
The first time I was in for 5 days anyway because of the transfusion/ bladder issues etc. Hoping it will be easier this time!

annie1994 · 19/04/2022 20:03

@EarlGreywithLemon I was on sertraline with my eldest and this baby and they’ve said both times baby needs to be monitored for at least 48 hours because they can get withdrawal effects from the tablets. My eldest had slight jitters and sneezed a lot. Hoping this time it’s this mild again/ none at all. I would definitely flag this up with your midwife/ obs. It may just be a trust thing but maybe make sure ☺️
