@AlbatrossSociety "My husband will do anything I ask him to do, but nothing that I don't ask him to do." - I think we may have married the same man 😆 And thanks, I'm going to power through - might even pop to church later. Not religious in the slightest, but if I was I think God would be ok with purely selfish visit once in a while.

@4thtimethecharm I'm not allowed to give DH more than one thing to do at a time, he can't multi-task. Apparently he can't write things down or make lists; calendar appointments or set reminders either. Still, as @AlbatrossSociety said: he'll do most anything I ask him to do, so there's that 😬

@EarlGreywithLemon we were told blankets are ok in my last antenatal class, but you should tuck them in under baby's arms and in the sides of the cot. I had understood they were a complete no-no too...?

As for sleeping bags, I bought one and it's huge (0-3 months - smallest size they do). Thought I'd see how I go and can buy more later, was also thinking that it might be too warm for June/July/August anyway. Now thinking I'll probably need smaller than newborn clothes anyway, all being well.. Not buying those yet though.

destiEos · 15/04/2022 10:51

Poo, I forgot - I came back on to say that both Kally and Snüz sent me emails about Spring sales today. In case you're not all on the same thousand mailing lists 😉

Vimto1991 · 15/04/2022 10:52

Hey everyone!
I was in bed for 10;30 last night, still awake by 2:30… I was either itchy, RLS (most annoying symptom my entire pregnancy), or needing to pee every hour! Get some sleep in before baby is here my arse 🤦‍♀️

I’m also in the boat of rib pain, I’m not sure what part of the baby is there but when the move into the rib area it does proper dig in!! I did a little poke and could feel something although they didn’t seem phased enough to move when I poked them! 🙈

To feeling exhausted… YES, more than first trimester, and nauseous me is back, too! The only difference is I can eat food and keep it down 🙈

So good to hear most people seem to be in the same boat as me for organisation and prep. Just a man thing then 🤦‍♀️ I never want to come across as bossy but when I’m this exhausted I need to delegate something!!

EarlGreywithLemon · 15/04/2022 11:27

@destiEos we were told they were ok too, and several of my NCT class used them. I did tuck them in both under her arms and the cot mattress/sides, but she still kicked them off! In the end I just wasn’t comfortable with them, but I know lots of people are.
We used these for sleeping bags (suitable from birth) www.tommeetippee.com/en-gb/shop/sleeping/sleepwear/swaddling?gclid=Cj0KCQjwr-SSBhC9ARIsANhzu144RwqfcijDCwd7fovXMJJFPych1fm7hXf3VzCmVtJAcP1SSBdJgCAaAlKLEALw_wcB

RoseValleyRambles · 15/04/2022 11:34

It's sunny, I have 4 days off work, and nowhere to go. I have cracked out my big shady hat and a maternity jumpsuit I picked up for the last few hopefully sunshiney months. I can smell sunscreen and spring.

Easter holidays, I love you.

InvisibleDragon · 15/04/2022 11:59

On organisation, I think it's a man thing by proxy of upbringing. My mum was unfortunately really depressed when I was secondary school age, so I learned how to live in a messy, disorganised home, rather than how to structure and plan and keep my home nice. As an adult, I've discovered the limitations of that and have had to work hard to learn the skills to manage my life better. And lots of things I'm still working on!

I think a lot of men grow up in homes where someone else (ie mum) manages all the structure / planning stuff and they never see all the work it takes. So they aren't even aware of the mental / emotional load that their mum / wife is carrying to keep things organized. And think it all happens by magic.

In my relationship, it's still my husband who carries more of that load - which is some sort of miracle as a good deal of men from the Middle East rely on their wives for everything domestic. But being bad at household organisation is something I want to change - particularly as I don't want it to negatively impact my baby the way it impacted me.

Vimto1991 · 15/04/2022 12:05

@RoseValleyRambles yes!! Enjoy the sunshine! I, too, have nowhere to go, DH is at work, I keep thinking it’s Saturday. Just shaved my legs in the shower which was exhausting and cut my knuckle BUT I got a dress on! Makes a change from pyjamas. 😂

Vimto1991 · 15/04/2022 13:23

Does anyone recommend a tankini that has a halter neck for labour? I literally can’t find anything anywhere, Amazon has a few but they’re super expensive considering I’ll throw it away after giving birth. :/ unless anyone can recommend anything else? I’m hoping for a water birth so know it’s needs to be light.

GrowBabyGrow · 15/04/2022 13:55

Had a false start to decorating the nursery this morning. We were all prepped and ready to go, got the paint last weekend so we didn't have to go out today. Then find we're a tin down AND it's the ceiling paint so we can't even start on the walls. turns out that we must have left a tin at brewer's last weekend and they are closed today Blush. Cue a very stressed DH worrying we won't be able to finish decorating in time as we still need to get carpets, skirting and a radiator installed. Then aha I remembered his parents have just finished redecorating some rooms! Grandparents to the rescue with a huge tub of leftover white paint. Nursery saved. Now I actually have to do some painting...

fpeg · 15/04/2022 14:23

@GrowBabyGrow our nursery is still full of boxes that need to go to storage! This is happening tomorrow but then needs painting, new window, new carpet and furniture putting up. Due 1st June. DH finally seems to be taking me seriously that we are running out of time! Honestly they live on another planet when it comes to timings, I don't think it's sunk in with him yet that I'm likely to be induced early and so time is rapidly running out! Hope this makes you feel better 😁

Brightsmoke · 15/04/2022 19:31

@PeeAche2, yeah I recommend a 0.5 tog sleeping bag or a swaddle for hot nights

Pleased to hear it's nothing too serious @unknownscot

@C1ueless22 my sleep has gone back to being awful. Waking at 4-4.30 everyday and not being able to get back to sleep, which I'm sure is a lot of the cause of my exhaustion. I'm ready for bed at 8 every night

My husband has done 0 baby shopping. He has plastered and helped to paint the nursery but that's it 😂 The nursery is a tip too, as we're doing the hall/stairs/landing so as the 'spare' room, everything had been chucked in there. I hate it 😬

needarainbow · 15/04/2022 19:41

Hoping someone can give me some advice. I am what you would call pretty well off the boob department even before pregnancy and now with pregnancy growth they are quite frankly humongous. I'm really struggling to find nursing bras that don't cost so much they involve remortgaging the house, and also ones that provide enough support to stop these bad boys dragging on the ground. I'm not even opposed to proper underwire ones, it's something I've had to endure every day since they first sprouted. Anyone found anything decent? Looking a GG cup at a minimum!

Elon bras are good for a fuller bust. Have a wee check. I see they have a sale on too.
annie1994 · 16/04/2022 08:09

So I’m starting to consider having an elective c-section mainly due to a traumatic first birth but also a couple other reasons. Ladies that have had a c-section before, honestly how was the recovery? This is the only thing putting me off as I have a toddler (he’ll be 22 months when baby is due) 🤔

PeeAche2 · 16/04/2022 08:37

Morning ladies. Thanks for the advice on sleeping bags.

I don't have any advice on G cups or C sections but I can relate to the zero husband prep on the baby front. He hasn't bought a single thing. Oh, except he bought the cot under duress, because he had a PayPal balance to use and I begged. It's still not built though.

BTW. My maternity leave is now sorted. The company still haven't confirmed it, but Pregnant Then Screwed have helped me to send a letter to our HR director explaining that if I'm not paid, I'll see them in court. And if I'm overpaid they'll have to take me to court to get it back. My line manager has signed off my annual leave. My replacement is almost trained and... I start maternity leave in 18 days... of which, I am actually working 8 days 😂 🎉

RoseValleyRambles · 16/04/2022 08:51

@peeache2 yey for justice! Such nonsense that you've had to do that.

I lost a week somewhere and am now 30 weeks. Minor panic as a nine week countdown feels like no time at all. Aargh!

fpeg · 16/04/2022 09:14

@PeeAche2 that's wonderful news x

CurryandSnuggle · 16/04/2022 09:15

Whoa, crazy how many threads there are now. Late to the party but I’ve been in mega organised mode myself:

  • I’m nesting so have been blitzing the whole house and decluttering
  • decorated 2 bedrooms
  • gardening
  • bought all the baby clothes
  • budgeted for shared parental leave (which is scary as we’ll have 3 months where we’re in a deficit but thankfully our savings cover the deficit).

Still some essentials to buy and we need to think of baby names but I like to check one or two things off every week.

CurryandSnuggle · 16/04/2022 09:27

@PeeAche2 so sorry you went through all that stress but I’m so glad your employer is now taking you seriously. If it helps re: no notification of pay yet, my employer has told me they write with a breakdown but only once leave has started.

I agree 100% about our unique bond with the baby where we’re growing them and can feel every movement. It’s an amazing (albeit sometimes painful experience)

On sleeping bag front, most are only suitable when bubba is 10lbs. My son was born 7lbs 3oz so it was a while anyway before he could be in a sleeping bag. He was a June baby too. We just used a cellular blanket which is still his comfort blanket now at 7!

Re: hairless for labour - I can’t reach my bits to shave and I’ve never had a wax!

@Vimto1991 I do feel you on missing out on stuff though. I can’t do Brighton Pride this year and I couldn’t go to my friends birthday night out last night as it’s not very appropriate being 33 weeks pregnant. But then I thought: I’d still rather be pregnant and have the life I’ve got than her care-free single life. I’m genuinely really grateful and happy for my life currently even if I can’t drink or go to all the places I would like.

@destiEos so sorry to hear you’ve been so worried. Hope you are ok Flowers

@JAR1981 I agree, less kicking movements now and more squirming. But ouch, they really can hurt sometimes. This morning she stretched out so I was getting fannny daggers, sharp pain in hip and pain in rib all at the same time!!

@EarlGreywithLemon question - why did you need to put a few drops of milk on nipple after feed? Is it a natural soother? I didn’t manage to establish breastfeeding last time so I feel a bit of a noob on this front lol.

@Brightsmoke I’m getting nipple shields as well just in case as I’ve read it can help establishing bf if baby won’t latch (my son wouldn’t open his mouth!!)

EarlGreywithLemon · 16/04/2022 09:40

@CurryandSnuggle yes, it’s a natural soother and disinfectant (said the midwife who recommended it). I did find it helpful together with lots of Lansinoh. But I’m a newbie in many ways too, because our daughter had naturally good latch - no merit on my part. I’m aware it could be very different this time!
Also, we were in hospital for 5 days and the midwives were very helpful.

fpeg · 16/04/2022 11:17

I've done a free webinar with baby academy this morning. Saw this infographic for baby sleeping bags which I know we've seen variations of before but I thought it was a. I've one

They also mentioned this website which has information on co-sleeping if this is where you end up: www.basisonline.org.uk

Apparently 50% of parents end up doing it regardless of whether they felt they would or not and so this website talks about the safest way to do it. Also info on lullaby trust.

Vimto1991 · 16/04/2022 12:16

My neighbour dropped off their grand child’s high chair today, I was carrying in my shopping and they left it by the back door. I wrangled with two indoor cats who were curious and not allowed outside and pulled my back. Think I forget I’m 8 months pregnant and not as nimble as I used to be 😭 actual agony now. But… cinnabon opened in the next town over and I really wanted some 😂😂

@fpeg I did that class, too, found it more informative than my NHS one!! Thanks for the screenshot, I forgot to take a photo so had nothing for reference. :)

sunflower198 · 16/04/2022 12:29

@annie1994 I had an EMCS last time and the recovery was tough but not as bad as I was expecting.
I was home the day afterwards and religiously kept on top of my painkillers which really helped. I had really bad trapped wind pains after and the HV recommended lactulose (I think!) and it helped a lot.
I was out for a dog walk after 4 days so I must have felt up to it!
I chose not to drive until 6 weeks but I definitely could have done it earlier, I just made the most of OH driving everywhere.

I'm having an elective this time around and I'm positive it's going to be easier, mainly because I was induced last time and he was born 3 days later after I was pumped full of drugs so I think by missing that part out, I'm going to feel a lot brighter (that's what I keep telling myself anyway!!)
I don't know how it's going to be having a toddler too though - mines at the age that he wants to help lots so hopefully that'll help rather than hinder recovery! X
