Celyn22 · 28/04/2022 16:20

@Beth262 yes! I have just woken up from an unintentional nap! It seems like it's hitting me on random days at the moment rather than being consistently tired everyday. It's possibly because I worked hard physically yesterday, and today everyone is away so no one can see me resting and enjoying the quiet! It's good to listen to our bodies when we can!

Beth262 · 28/04/2022 16:40

@Celyn22 I'm glad it's not just me then!

Has tiredness hit anyone else like a ton of bricks again? Had to take yesterday off work just to sleep and rest. Dread to think what I'm going to be like in another 15 weeks 😩

Yes yes yessss! I was always a sleepy sloth before pregnancy, but I honestly think if left alone I would sleep all day. I am so lucky I WFH as I have to have a nap. I try and time it for an hour for lunch but sometimes I can't even open my eyes after an hour!

Unknown6 · 28/04/2022 17:01

Hey all,

Incase you hadn't heard there is a bump and baby show on at the NEC mid May.
I'm going to head along, heard they are good.

Just had to order a bump band to help with the weight now.
Had to finish work early today as falling asleep at my desk lol.

SquigsC · 28/04/2022 17:01

Also, does anybody have any advice regarding getting a newborn home? We don't have a car (I can drive but don't fancy hiring a car to drive a baby home after birth... my partner can't drive). Our plan so far is hoping that my dad can drive up from Cornwall to take us home or get a taxi if for some reason that falls through. My concern is getting a baby car seat - I know we will probably use it again as I do hire cars - but am also aware we won't use it much.

Of course, the safety of my baby is my priority. I have seen some maxi cosi car seats on Facebook marketplace for a really cheap price, but the NHS website recommends you buy a seat brand new and get it properly fitted etc. Obviously the difference in price is large! What do you all think?

madeleine85 · 28/04/2022 20:06

@SquigsC urgh the used car seat debate. I am part of a local mum's exchange/gifting facebook group, and there are often car seats handed around. For some reason that feels better to me than buying a 2nd hand one off marketplace, since you know where you got it from and that the person is a real mum, not just someone trying to make quick money. Do what you are comfortable with, and only you can really determine that. Do you have any friends/family members that are almost done with theirs? At least then you would know the history/that the seat hadn't been in any car crashes.

Beth262 · 28/04/2022 20:37

@SquigsC we had a second hand car seat for DS but it came from DP's dad & new wife (they had a baby 13 months before us) so knew it had been looked after and hadn't been in any accidents. I think that's the main reason the NHS advise against it, because you don't know the history. But as madeleine says if you can get one that you know the history of, then go for it. Prices on new ones are ridiculous but unfortunately, the words 'new baby' seem to have the same effect on the prices of things as the word 'wedding' 🙄

Be incredibly careful with car seats, the foam can disintegrate and it's not always visible from the outside. We've had it happen with one that was a bit older and it was only when we took the cover off to wash we spotted it. I'd probably look at getting a new one that clips in to the pram as they're pretty handy anyway and some can be used instead of the bassinet plus they last a couple of years anyway. Save the money on the travel system, that's ok to get second hand.

You can get in a black cab with the baby in a pram with the breaks on. Or in a sling/carrier with the belt against your body rather than round the baby.
Also depending on where you are, you could perhaps hire a car seat. It's just for one journey and they will do qualify checks on them regularly. I know sometimes the hospital want to see a car seat before you leave but when you explain to them that you've made other arrangements they will let you leave, they can't hold you hostage! X

Thanks everyone for your replies. I’ll just take it day by day and see how I’m feeling. Roll on June onwards when I can be a sloth in peace 😀

squatternutbosh12 · 29/04/2022 10:22

Thanks everyone @madeleine85 @PopGoesBang @SquigsC @Mufflette They got the ketones in my wee down to an acceptable level at least, not feeling a huge amount better but I’ve also got yet another different antiemetic to try (metoclopramide) like 4th line or something but I’ll try anything at this point?!
Am also apparently anaemic now (not super surprised as not keeping much food or my vitamin/iron tablets down) so been prescribed some liquid iron which is supposed to constipate and nauseate less… so we shall see!
I just hope baby is ok and growing normally with all this! He did measure fine with the midwife the other day so 🤞altho tape measures are notoriously unreliable, but I do also have a growth scan in a few weeks so will get more idea then.

@SquigsC hurray I’m glad you don’t have GD either! It’s a relief isn’t it! Like you say- one less thing!

@CoalCraft sounds like a really rough day you had :( glad everything with cervix was ok and good that you’ve got the pessaries just in case though. Hope you are all recovered from the stomach bug now- last thing you needed 😩

I’m with you all on the extreme tiredness - I could sleep all day!!

Shelly1812 · 30/04/2022 16:46

Hi, hope everyone is feeling well.

My 6yr old was running about like an enjoy earlier and ran right into my Bump 🤨, now wondering if I should have an anti d injection (I'm A-) or if it's not significant enough of a bump. 2nd time round this pregnancy carry on doesn't get easier lol x

CoalCraft · 01/05/2022 06:52

Hi all, hope everyone is doing okay,

I was 24 weeks yesterday! Feels significant as I think it's considered the "viability point" where there's a decent chance of baby surviving outside the womb. Obviously still much, much better for them to stay in! But given I had a previous preterm birth I do find it a comforting thought.

Doing okay here for the most part - have not had a recurrence of the rhythmic tightenings so that's good. By this point in my last pregnancy they were already pretty constant, so am feeling pretty positive 🙂 I don't love the progesterone pessaries they've got me on, but if they work!

I still seem to have a bit of a tummy bug, and now w DH is getting it too. Seems to be an odd one that grumbles on mildly for like a week rather than the more usual kind that's very dramatic for like a day, then you're fine. Am definitely on the mend now though.

@Shelly1812 Oh no! Hope it wasn't too painful. Might be worth going and getting the injection, just in case - it's probably fine but no use risking it xx

Beth262 · 01/05/2022 20:19

@CoalCraft Glad to hear the tightenings appear to have stopped. The pessaries are grim but they will hopefully mean you won't have as early a preterm birth, like with DD. Hope the sickness bug lifts for you soon!

Hope everyone else is doing ok 🙂

This will no doubt turn out to be a 'wow with me'/ranty post. Just know you ladies are saving the other half from getting it.

26+1 day and i'm painting the bedroom, because it is taking forever to get it finished and I am beyond fed up of the house being upside down. The good news is it's on schedule for when the carpet is being fitted so that is a bonus. And then we can build the furniture and move things back in. The end feels very far off. It will be worth it. And this too shall pass but my back hurts, my hips hurt, my shoulder hurts, my feet hurt and on top of it all my HG has ramped up a notch or two just to help the situation. I have said we have to sleep in the proper bed tonight, 3 nights on the air bed and I am ready to take a knife to it and happily never see it again 🤪

Hope all stomach bugs have cleared off and that everyone else is having a less whinging bank holiday. Normal service will resume after a nap and/or decent nights sleep.

madeleine85 · 02/05/2022 18:13

@PopGoesBang rant away, we're here for it. Sleep makes a world of difference (says she who was up all night with loo runs and general anxiety which has popped up for no reason). My husband has banished me to the spare room tonight so we both get some rest, and honestly I'm ok with that as he snores and wakes me up. Do you have a spare bed you can use in place of an air mattress? At least it sounds like it's just your bedroom being redone? My lovely toddler brought home another daycare plague that hit us hard all weekend, feels so similar to covid, fevers, coughs, chest tightness, but none of us are testing positive which is just bizarre. I keep testing just to see/be safe, and now feel like i'm just throwing away tests! I better have the immunity of a super human by the time she is in school!

PopGoesBang · 02/05/2022 18:48

Thank you @madeleine85. No spare room, well not with a bed in. If dd didn't have a high sleeper I'd have turfed her out and she'd have loved sleeping in the sofa! Oh to be 8 again 😂
It is currently just the bedroom, although there is talk of a new boiler and putting in central heating - but that will be someone else doing it so the disruption will be short lived compared to us doing things around every day things.
We've made the actual bed sleep-able tonight, so that is something. Glucose test tomorrow so I fully expect to be waking up continuously thirsty tonight just because I can't drink.

Sorry to hear your dd had brought something else home, they really are germ magnets. Hope it clears off quickly and you don't all suffer too much.

madeleine85 · 02/05/2022 18:53

@PopGoesBang glad you have a solution tonight! I didn't realise that you can't drink the night before a glucose test? I have clearly been cheating at them all! I just go in as normal... oops?!

PopGoesBang · 02/05/2022 18:55

@madeleine85 I'm going to double check the info now! Maybe I mis-read it. I'm sure it said nothing from 10pm, small sips of water if needed - obviously if I can drink I'll want nothing. It's always the way!
Either way bet I don't have any fewer toilet trips over night!!

madeleine85 · 02/05/2022 19:05

I just checked and you are 100% right! I've been massively cheating both my last pregnancy and my current one. Big oops here!! I think I even ate some sweets in the car the last time on the way over 😂

PopGoesBang · 02/05/2022 19:10

@madeleine85 🤣 I'd assume you won't be the only person to ever have done that. To be fair I'm pretty sure with dd I drank fluids, that was 9 years ago so my memory is hazy!

Cakecakecheese · 03/05/2022 12:30

Had my 25 week midwife appointment today, it's probably the first one where I left not feeling frustrated so we'll call that progress 😂

Heard the baby's heartbeat so that was nice and she said he was kicking and moving about a lot which was reassuring as I have a anterior placenta and haven't felt a lot.

I do have to have one of those pesky glucose tests though but it seems I'm in good company as a lot of you have had them!

ToCaden · 03/05/2022 13:09

Yes to tiredness. It made sense last week as had a very busy week that week and one before, but now it's still hitting me randomly. I want so much sleep and doing stuff is so much effort, but when i manage to get my head down i either can't sleep or as with last night and today need to pee within five mins. He appears to think my bladder is a cushy place to nap.

Cakecakecheese · 03/05/2022 13:23

@ToCaden I'm starting to think I should set up a bed in the bathroom as I need to pee so often during the night!

ToCaden · 03/05/2022 13:45

@Cakecakecheese early on in my pregnancy my lovely mother offered me use of the commode she has stored due to her now resolved hip problems. I've now accepted i will be taking her up on her offer later on in pregnancy and for early newborn days. It's two sets of stairs from bedroom to bathroom! Dignity can take a backseat.
