I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Snowwhite2020 I am so glad you are a lot better at 19 weeks. Great advice for IHaveBeenFallingFor30Minutes. IHaveBeenFallingFor30Minutes Much sympathy. It is very hard. Never apologise for moaning. I hope you get a bit better soon.

Thought I'd say hi, I've had HG since 6 weeks and it has been hell, I still don't feel like my normal self but after trying a few different combinations of meds I finally have found that x2 4mg ondansetron during the day and x2 10mg promethazine have curbed the physical vomiting and 24/7 nausea. I do also wear travel bands if I'm going to be moving around as moving around can set me off. As I said I still don't feel myself and have very little energy, not well enough to work however there is a big improvement. I'm 26+1 now (second pregnancy) and am feeling a little more positive. I am looking forward to giving birth as I know from past experience as soon as baby is out I will feel well again.

I take the promethazine before I go to bed as It makes me very drowsy.

Thank you for your support Flowers and for the links/advice. This thread is a lifeline!

LucindaE · 01/08/2022 19:52

hayu19 Welcome. I am glad that things are a lot better for you. Thank you so much for the encouraging post about the meds which have helped you. Do you find that you have to use a laxative, or are you one of the lucky ones who seem not to need one with Ondansetron?
IHaveBeenFallingFor30Minutes I am so glad that this thread is proving helpful for you.

I went for my last prescription of promethazine on Tuesday, was informed by the doctor that I should try to stop taking it this late in pregnancy as it can make baby irritable. Never even got round to picking the prescription up. I gave birth 1:27am the next day.

On Wednesday I still felt nauseous, but I had been to theater for hemorrhaging. Since Thursday food has been delicious. Been stuffing my self with loads of foods.

I can also take tablets again. It's amazing how quickly it went.

We wanted 2 children, but I don't know how any does it again. I think we're one and done.

Snowwhite2020 · 02/08/2022 06:57

Congratulations @Spottybutterfly wonderful news! A new baby and able to eat again with pleasure- what joys! Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 02/08/2022 06:59

@Spottybutterfly did you deliver before your due date, out of interest and was baby’s weight ok, as I know HG babies can be a little lighter at birth (it’s something I’m concerned about) xx

BalletN · 02/08/2022 08:18

I was 2 weeks before due date. She was 6lb10.

Throughout pregnancy she was always above the 90th percentile so never measured small.

Thanks everyone for the congrats.

ohCARP · 03/08/2022 20:14

Congratulations @Spottybutterfly! Lovely news. Enjoy allllll the food 🥰

LucindaE · 03/08/2022 20:40

Spottybutterfly A lovely weight: not too small or too big! 😃
Snowwhite2020 Of course, everyone worries about babies not getting enough nourishment, but it's amazing how they flourish, for all the poor diets so many sufferers are for ced to have. I have known some ten pounders on here -ouch! 😲
Waves to ohCARP and everyone.

Congratulations @Spottybutterfly ! I know what you mean, but every pregnancy is different. I didn't have any nausea at all with number 1 and I've said myself that I wouldn't be doing this again if I had!

Another one here who seems to have had a resurgence of nausea today - I'm 28+2... Only times previously that the ondansetron hasn't worked was if I was late or missed a dose 😬

Snowwhite2020 · 04/08/2022 07:32

Thank you for your response @Spottybutterfly enjoy your beautiful baby! Xx Thanks @LucindaE yes my daughter wasn’t a small baby last time around and you’ll remember I was on this forum a lot….! But I do worry. Thanks for your reassurance xx

Hyperemesishell · 04/08/2022 14:58

I am currently 26 weeks and was speaking to the midwife today and she mentioned that at my next Consultant appt they may discuss a reduction/removal of both cyclizine and Promethazine as they can cause respiratory issues in baby when taken too close to birth and I will be a planned c section.
At the moment I am currently on cyclizine, ondansetron & promethazine and have just finished a second course of prednisone (steroid). I just wondered how near to the birth people have been taken off anti-emetics if at all.

BalletN · 04/08/2022 16:01

@Hyperemesishell I'm 24 weeks and on cyclizine and prochloperazine. I've had the same discussion with my gp. She isn't sure what to do for the best so emailed the consultant and we are waiting for a response. My hyperemisis is well controlled now and she's worried about sending me backwards. I asked a similar question on this thread a couple of weeks ago and got good advice. If you scroll back a few pages, you might find it xx

LucindaE · 04/08/2022 21:06

Weathergirl1 Sorry to hear of that relapse. With luck, it'll be just a glitch.
Snowwhite2020 Natural enough to worry, even if baby was a normal weight last time.
BalletN I remember that discussion and I wish I remember which page it was! Good advice for Hyperemesishell. I am glad your consultant is so thorough.

@LucindaE I discovered by chance that one of the GPs at my new surgery had hyperemisis herself when pregnant so the care I've received has been fab!

LucindaE · 05/08/2022 20:40

BalletN That's great - well, not for her, obviously, but from the point of view of your getting sensitive treatment!

Snowwhite2020 · 05/08/2022 22:08

I agree @BalletN I’ve been amazed at how much misunderstanding/ lack of experience I have come across about hyperemesis with health professionals. It’s been easier to get my point across with the second pregnancy because I suffered so much with the first but it shouldn’t be that way- great you have a medic who really understands! Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 05/08/2022 22:10

@Hyperemesishell i didn’t realise that about Cyclizine in the latter parts of pregnancy- no one had mentioned that to me- thanks for sharing! Xx

LucindaE · 06/08/2022 19:58

"Snowwhite2020* I so agree.
