I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hey ladies, I posted on here a few weeks ago regarding my nausea. Anyway it got a lot worse and the retching didn’t help, so I’ve been put on cyclizine and it’s helping but making me so tired. I’ve read that you’re supposed to spread the dosage by 8 hours but nowhere on my leaflets does it say that? It just says take up to three tablets daily. Can I just take three a day but spread out over 4/5 hours instead? Thank you in advance!

BalletN · 10/06/2022 20:48

@RedLipsticks I take my 3 cyclizine tablets about 7.30pm, 2am ish and 8am so leaving about 6 hours between. I read 8 hour spacing somewhere online too but it doesn't specifically say that on my instructions. I find I need to sleep after taking it so these times work best for me. I then take prochloroperazine more during the day.

LucindaE · 10/06/2022 20:59

RedLipsticks Many sufferers find that after a short while, the worst of the tiredness wears off. Glad that the Cyclizine is working with the sickness.
BalletN Excellent advice about spacing out the meds.

OP posts:
buntywindermere · 10/06/2022 21:15

@BalletN that's such a good idea, I don't know why I haven't ever thought to take them over night before and then prochlorperazine in the day!

I have made the decision though to pester the doctor for ondansetron. Not sure whether my GP will prescribe it but they're quite good at the early pregnancy unit. Feeling a bit nervous but very reassured by the numbers shared earlier in the week. Thanks ladies. Hope everyone is as ok as can be. Flowers

Sicksmellymess · 11/06/2022 10:55

Anyone else fed up of the lack of motivation and tiredness that comes with HG, medication and pregnancy?
26 weeks on Monday and I have 0 motivation to do anything and my house is a tip.

My pharmacy were able to order it this morning!!

ChloeHel · 11/06/2022 16:54

@Sicksmellymess yep, I’m fed up of the state on my house, the state on my bloody garden and the state on me! This pregnancy has ruined me as a person so far. I feel like I’m missing out on so much, my husband must be so fed up of me too, but secretly hiding it haha. I’m counting down the weeks..16 to go…ugh!

@KatieJayne86 aw that’s good! Hopefully you’ll start feeling better again! I instantly felt relief the morning after I took my first one!

LucindaE · 11/06/2022 20:06

ChloeHel and Sicksmellymess It is an endurance test!
KatieJayne86 Good news.
buntywindermere Very true. A great idea of BalletN's to take advantage of
the sleep inducing side effects of Cyclizine.

Hi, I'm new to this thread hope your all doing okay. I'm 15 weeks now and due the 2nd of December. I've just had a month off work with hg and hospital admission for fluids. I have managed to get ondansatron but my gp will only give me 5 days worth. I'm nauseous from the moment I wake to the moment I sleep. I have 2 boys that I am a single mum too (appears that way for this one too) and I don't feel like I'm functioning very well. I have just gone back to work as I was feeling a bit better but I'm in for a stretch of 8 days in a row . I'm on day 2 and have had a constant headache since 10am yesterday. I cant stomach much if any meals. And I'm crawling in at home time and going straight to bed. I've bee coping by ordering my boys takeaways. I have Dipped my urine tonight and keytones are up to ++ and I have protine in urine again too. I have forced some food down me and more fluids as I don't want to have to go to hospital. But I feel absolutely awful if I eat. I have to lie down. This is really getting me down now. I feel like all I am doing is moaning all the time but I've never felt like this and I just don't have anywhere to turn. X

greenerfingers · 12/06/2022 09:13

Hello all,

I hope everyone is feeling better. I'm just popping on to give a bit of hope to some first time sufferers. I'm 16 weeks today and can finally eat. Certain foods trigger me but I avoid them happily. It's just great to be able to have something to eat and water (albeit slightly off tasting).

I know everyone's HG tapers off differently but I do feel meds helped speed it up for me this time and being more vigilant on which triggers were more severe (e.g dairy, caffeine etc).

I wasn't sure whether to post this as I don't want to go on about how much better I feel when I know others are suffering so severely still. Just some positivity for those who've never had it before and think it has to be the full 9 months for everyone x

LucindaE · 12/06/2022 19:52

greenerfingers Thank you so much for your lovely message. That is so encouraging for those suffering badly, so don't feel that you have to play down how much better you feel. I am so glad you are a lot better; that is great.
Watermelonbonnie Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. It must be very difficult as a single parent with two and suffering from Hyperemesis. Ondansetron has helped many on here. It's a shame your doctor is reluctant to give you more than a handful; it might be worth phoning Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 for advice on obtaining effective meds. They will have to phone you back, but they give excellent advice. Hopefully you will be ale to get a regular supply of Ondansetron. Bad headaches can be a menace , either down to dehydration or migraines due to hormones. It doesn't sound to me as if you are well enough to work. Is there any chance you can be off sick for a bit? I've added your due date and I am quoting my normal speil, which I hope helps you. Ignore the parts which don't apply, obviously. Sufferers find that they improve a lot at some point between weeks 14 and 20, or sometimes later. Even those who are unlucky enough to suffer throughout generally are not as ill later on as they are in the first part. A good anti acid can make a surprising difference to the sickness. Kesostix are worth buying online or from a chemists, as while they aren't they best test of dehydration, hospitals take them seriously. When reporting on the vomiting to doctors, remember to emphasize the number of heaves in each vomiting session, as doctors tend to count these as 'vomits' and this can lead to their underestimating the severity of your symptoms. Besides drinking through a straw, here are some drinks that have helped others: full sugar flat coke (if you don't find it too acid), ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Vimto, Lucozade, apple juice, Ribina, Dr Pepper, soda water, Elderflower water, tonic water, ice cubes, Iron Bru, lemonade, lemon squash, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), fizzy orange (M and S has been recommende), 7Up, isotonic drinks, sips of strawberry or chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), fizzy water, apple juice, Robinson's fruit drinks, Rubicon sparkling mango drink , raspberry Lucozade sport and frozen ice cubes of flat Lucozade sport. Also, pink lemonade , cloudy lemonade and Sprite. Foods of a sort include tinned fruit, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, bagels and biscuits, potato smileys, minature salty Yorkshire Puddings , dry cereals and slices of melon and mango. Protein drinks have also been mentioned.

OP posts:
ChloeHel · 13/06/2022 20:19

@LucindaE coping as well as possible in this heat! Not a lover of the summer even when I’m not pregnant with HG haha. But I’ve gone one whole week without physically being sick so that’s something at least :) trying to get myself out of the house more but some days are harder than others! Getting there slowly.

BalletN · 13/06/2022 21:18

@ChloeHel Glad to hear your sickness has improved. Great news.

I was at the dentist today and she's put fluoride varnish on my teeth to try and prevent further enamel erosion from the vomiting. I've been on prescription toothpaste since my first pregnancy. Just thought I'd mention it in case it helps anyone else in the future.

buntywindermere · 14/06/2022 09:40

Going into see the early pregnancy doctors at the hospital today to get the ondansetron (my GP was useless). Feeling a bit anxious but have been reading in Australia it's commonly given straight away? I took it from about 12 weeks last time and I am just over 10 now. I definitely didn't used to overthink so much, but HG anxiety combined with pregnancy after a loss anxiety is really something else.

Hope everyone is as ok as they can be. Flowers

ChloeHel · 14/06/2022 12:39

@BalletN that’s a good idea, I never thought of that! And my brother is my dentist, oh dear haha. I don’t think he’s going to be pleased at my poor teeth for my next check up!

LucindaE · 14/06/2022 21:46

KatieJayne86 That is not fair!
ChloeHel You lucky thing - brother a dentist. Does that mean free treatment even when not pregnant? Yes, it was the first really hot day today in a while.
Good news about vomiting so reduced.
buntywindermere I hope the doctor is helpful. You are so right, one is anxious all the time in a pregnancy after a loss.
BalletN That is a great idea about the flouride varnish.
Waves to all.

Hi everyone .... I'm back again.. 4+2 with baby number 2 severe HG in last pregnancy and have already starting to vomit. Surely surely surely it can't start this early. I know this sounds dramatic but I think I actually won't survive 36 more weeks of this....

Last time I was pregnant was 2019 and I had ondansetron and stemetil but I didn't really get much relief. Since 2019 is there any meds that I could ask for ???

LucindaE · 15/06/2022 19:46

ohhollyfred Welcome back. Sorry you are suffering so early. Do get pre-emptive meds asap. Xonvea has been introduced specifically for pregnancy sickness, and it has helped many on here, but there have been supply issues lately. Remember to ask for a laxative if the GP pescribes Ondansetron.

OP posts:
LucindaE · 15/06/2022 19:48

ohhollyfred I'm also wondering - do you h ave bad heartburn? Melleebacca had a really good tip about taking half a teasponful of calcium powder for that.
