BFPs following IVF to take symptoms & scans

Justawannabemam · 22/03/2022 07:27

Hi everyone.

I've started this group for us to chat about our symptoms, scans and any other pregancy related issues after getting a BFP following IVF/IUI/ICSI.

It is by no means to leave anyone out of the previous groups we have been in, where we all offer advice and help during an IVF cycle.

We all know hearing people's positive pregancy news can be heart breaking. I just found on the group that we are talking scans, symptoms, signs and positive tests I'm very conscious that those currently mid cycle may get upset.

We can all still give advice but maybe we could use this group as our pregnancies progress.

I've tagged who I remember from the last group, please feel free to add others as they join us on this next phase of our journey or if I have missed anyone.

@ShareLove I find testing everyday helps me but that’s my own personal coping strategy

Bluehawaii29 · 24/03/2022 11:27

Also would be great if I could have 3 months off work! I’m fed up, can’t do everything anymore. It’s too much

Bluehawaii29 · 24/03/2022 11:29

Wow really needed this, just seen it. I guess what it means is don’t focus on the outcome, just let it unfold and go with the flow. Hopefully we will have some peace soon

@Bluehawaii29 my bad acne really cleared up in my last pregnancy so you can't necessarily predict how it's going to go!

xreadytoglow · 24/03/2022 13:12

I'm back!!!

Everything went well 🥰! I cried and shut my eyes whilst waiting for her to show me or say anything. Then I just heard her say 'so there's a heartbeat'. And I just burst into tears. She showed us on the screen and could see it flickering away. I turned to look at my wife and she was crying too ❤️. This is our first so it's all very new to us. We're just so elated and so, so excited to tell our parents. Baby is measuring 10.6mm and spot on for 7w+2.

I hope everyone else who has a scan coming up has the same experience. 🤍

@xreadytoglow remind me again did you have 1 or 2 transferred?

womaninkent · 24/03/2022 13:34

@xreadytoglow amazing, such lovely news.

xreadytoglow · 24/03/2022 13:37

Thanks so much you guys 🥰

@Bluehawaii29 just the one transferred! My wife joked early on that it had split and took it seriously for a while but no, just the one in there! 😄

Good to hear that's a good size @Justawannabemam

I can't wait for Mother's Day 🤍

Justawannabemam · 24/03/2022 13:44

Mine at the weeks. We're 5.3mm 3.3 & 3.7 mm . I hope they've caught up a bit .x

Enjoy your time. You'll have a beautiful day on Sunday. X

@xreadytoglow that’s nice, I’m sure you guys would have been happy with twins too but it’s good you got one healthy one there xx

Bryterlayter1 · 24/03/2022 15:18

@xreadytoglow fantastic news. I bet you can't wait to tell your families.

2mumlife · 24/03/2022 15:41

@Millymillymillymillymilly My sister had a baby in November, and shocked the hell out of my parents as she is a bit older and no one ever thought she was interested in giving birth (as my dad put it they would much more expect her to say they were adopting or fostering than that she was pregnant!). I've been on the IVF boards too long though, and just too aware things can happen even after a BFP, so been a lot more cautious. I joined a duedate group on here too for example, and one of the ladies (pretty sure she wasn't IVF) found out at a private 16 week scan the pregnancy had ended at around 12 weeks, so everytime I hear things like that it makes me feel more and more cautious about things.

@Bluehawaii29 So, I had this one GIANT spot/lump on my chin that appeared shortly before the BFP and stayed for ages. Other than that not really. My boobs are a little bit spotty, but it might be oil I'm using to try to help prevent stretch marks. I have really thick hair, and I have noticed its not coming out nearly as much. The nausea is horrible - resign yourself to it, I felt pretty hideous from week of BFP to 10 weeks, then had good days/bad days until around 12 weeks. Took until 13 weeks to feel properly normal, but even now, I still feel sick if I don't eat regularly, and I get heartburn which I've never had before, I still can't really drink fizzy drinks and still can't really drink coffee

@ShareLove All I can say is try to just take it one day at a time.

@xreadytoglow Great to hear things are looking good so far! The nurse told us to think of it as a gummybear with stubs for arms and legs when we had our viability scan lol Congratulations!

@Justawannabemam Oh my word! Are you having triplets!?

16 week cervix scan went good today - scan was abdominal rather than transvaginal which I wasn't expecting but meant I got to see fetus as well which was fantastic for some reassurance. My cervix is short but not terrible measuring in at 31mm. Its short enough that they want to monitor me every 2 weeks from not until 24 weeks, but the hope is that everything will be fine I wont need a cervical stitch 🤞🤞🤞🤞 and its also nice having the extra reassurance of seeing fetus that often. I'm just going to get really bored waiting around in the hospital, as from 28 weeks the IVF growth scans start (just wait until you all have the joy of hearing about that at your booking in / 12 week scans!)

Justawannabemam · 24/03/2022 16:15

@2mumlife haha yeh were having 3. Scared at first we're getting used to it now.
Got an 8 week scan tomorrow. So we'll see what it brings. They did say that they would have to keep an eye on the 2 smaller ones. Fingers crossed.

Bryterlayter1 · 24/03/2022 16:30

@2mumlife is the cervical scan standard procedure? My mother had several miscarriages in the late 70s due to an incompetent cervix (horrible term!) Before they figured out what was wrong, and started to stitch up her cervix during pregnancy. I'm worried I might have the same issue. I have no idea if it is genetic but it plays on my mind. If this is one of the things that is monitored now a days that would be reassuring.

2mumlife · 24/03/2022 17:10

@Justawannabemam Wow seen a couple of twin pregnancies but not triplets! That must have been a shock! I'm sure they'll be monitoring you closely to ensure the best outcome they can X

@Bryterlayter1 No, not routine done. You'll only be offered if you have risk factors (2 or surgeries for cervical changes in the past, history of 2nd trimester misscarriage / early labour). I only got scanned as fertility clinic consultant identified a short cervix during treatment, and because whilst I only had 1 LLETZ procedure I had a hemorrhage after it. If you were worried you could pay for it to be checked privately.

2mumlife · 24/03/2022 17:15

@Bryterlayter1 Also, how horrible for you mum :( You can mention her history at the booking in appointment in case its relevant as they ask about family history of still birth and pre eclampsia

Bluehawaii29 · 24/03/2022 17:16

@2mumlife thanks for your advice regarding the nausea. I’m normally a big foodie so it’s been pretty depressing not being able to enjoy food now for a good few weeks, all started 1st week of my 2ww and still going on. I’m just trying to eat little and often. I just snack on carrot sticks or avocado but enjoyed my cheese pastie from greggs for lunch today. When I saw it I said to my husband ooh I want two of these but then I could barely finish one in the end x

Bluehawaii29 · 24/03/2022 17:17

@Justawannabemam good luck for your scan tomorrow! Xx

2mumlife · 24/03/2022 17:20

@Bluehawaii29 I had a lot of moments of not fancying anything and then seeing with DP had or seeing something and being like "THAT I want THAT" lol

Bluehawaii29 · 24/03/2022 17:22

@2mumlife haha yeah it’s crazy isn’t it. Definitely greedy eyes but disappointment when you can’t finish what you ask for 🤣

Bryterlayter1 · 24/03/2022 18:19

@2mumlife thanks for the info. I will mention it, my sister has had 2 very normal pregnancies so hoping it isn’t a family issue.

My mum’s experience was horrid, I hope care is better now than it was for her 40 plus years ago (I’m certain it is).

Justawannabemam · 24/03/2022 18:35

Aww thanks

I dont get morning sickness . I get evening sickness can't eat my tea and ive had to dash the toilet. TMI .
