BFPs following IVF to take symptoms & scans

Hi everyone.

I've started this group for us to chat about our symptoms, scans and any other pregancy related issues after getting a BFP following IVF/IUI/ICSI.

It is by no means to leave anyone out of the previous groups we have been in, where we all offer advice and help during an IVF cycle.

We all know hearing people's positive pregancy news can be heart breaking. I just found on the group that we are talking scans, symptoms, signs and positive tests I'm very conscious that those currently mid cycle may get upset.

We can all still give advice but maybe we could use this group as our pregnancies progress.

I've tagged who I remember from the last group, please feel free to add others as they join us on this next phase of our journey or if I have missed anyone.

Heyyy I hope everyone is doing okay 🥰 congrats on your two @bajanbump ! Love the scan pics.

We had a day of baby shopping today.. a friend of ours can get us staff discount from Mamas & Papas and there's a sale on right now so thought we'd go and have a nosey. We've fallen in love with the Ocarro pram in the Everest colour so think we'll definitely be getting that.. also picked out the furniture set, baby bouncer and little bits like a prep machine, shelves and a bath tub because we don't have a bath. It was so surreal to go browsing for it all.. my wife got a bit emotional, bless her 😂! Going to order it all on Sunday once we've looked into it all.

We also find out the sex on Sunday! 💖💙 soooo excited. Attached some pics from our private scan. Any boy or girl guesses? 😊
I think girl, my wife thinks boy!

Overlyanxious · 03/06/2022 18:23

@bajanbump that’s great news the twins are looking good. How is the morning sickness now?

@xreadytoglow shopping is very exciting - sounds like you’ve found lots of good things. Also exciting to find out about the sex. I have no idea about scan pics and baby’s sex but I’ll guess boy.

@2mumlife how are you feeling? Are you all finished with the antibiotics?

@Bluehawaii29 how are you doing?

my anxiety is not great at the moment unfortunately. I keep hearing of friends of friends that I know being due the same time as me and my stupid brain makes me panic that because it’s the same time it’s all going to go wrong for me and I’ll have to see them all have babies. I think this may go back to when I was trying before and had a miscarriage and then all these people announced their pregnancies. I’m hoping my 20 week scan in 3 weeks will make me feel better (but I’m not sure if this is linked to some early scanxiety).

Bluehawaii29 · 03/06/2022 18:49

Hey sorry I haven’t been around much. @Overlyanxious have had a terrible time since yesterday morning with explosive liquid diarrhoea, happened 3 times yesterday and 6 times so far today. Had a temp with it yesterday and initially vomiting but that stopped and no temp today. Went to see OOH GP yesterday who reassured me won’t harm the baby but to make sure I don’t get dehydrated so trying to keep having water and on dioralyte as well as sports drink and tried a soup and some boiled potato today but really worried I’m losing weight and there doesn’t seem to be any end to it. not sure if anyone has experienced this but they think it’s norovirus. I just can’t think how I got it. I’m always careful with what I eat but I was off this week and had a few things outside. Just feel really depressed it’s all going to go wrong. Also have a friend like you who’s told me she’s due her second a month after me and just can’t feel like I’ll reach that point at the moment

Bluehawaii29 · 03/06/2022 18:50

@bajanbump @xreadytoglow congrats on your scans x

Overlyanxious · 03/06/2022 19:04

@Bluehawaii29 sorry to hear you’re suffering so much. I’ve had Noro before and it is horrible - with everything coming out of all ends. I find you have to be careful with what you eat otherwise it can aggravate it. Soup and boiled potato sound good though. Lots of bland food. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Remember there are people who have Hyperemesis in second trimester as well as first trimester so they will be struggling to eat.

I’m sorry you’re feeling it’s all going to go wrong. Hopefully when you start feeling better you’ll feel more positive too. I wish our brains didn’t make us feel like this

xreadytoglow · 03/06/2022 19:05

@Overlyanxious @Bluehawaii29 I'm sorry to hear you're both feeling anxious. I hope you recover soon from the norovirus, it sounds awful!
I always think the miscarriage reassurance website helps.. we're so far along now the chances of anything going wrong are very slim. Once we start to feel movements, I'm sure then we can start to relax a bit more. Until they fall asleep and stop moving 🙈! Sending hugs, we're over the worst guys! xxx

bajanbump · 03/06/2022 19:06

@Bluehawaii29 I've been vomiting and with diarrhea for weeks so I know how besides feeling awful you also worry about the pregnancy. My doctor told me to buy protein shakes, and whatever I eat I try to be high in calories. Also, all that negativity you are feeling is completely normal and related to you not feeling well. Morning sickness really has affected my mental health and when it was at its worst I really was sad, depressed and scared all the time, which made me feel guilty bc I felt I was not bonding with the babies. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone, and that it will all be alright. Our bodies are just going through a major major change and our mind sometimes doesnt process it as fast as we would like. But that is normal and ok.

@Overlyanxious sickness now is one day really good one day bad. Today I'm in a not-so-good day so a bit drained. The fact that I can't really leave the house feeling like this doesnt help either. I feel trapped.

My anxiety is also playing games, during the scan on Monday the dr did not mention anything about NT, she is a very experienced Dr, and has worked in Barbados, Jamaica and the UK, so my partner says that if she had seen anything out of the ordinary she would have flagged it. However, I did not see her measuring the NT but I guess after so many scans doctors might know when is needed or not.. ugh i dont know. I do know for sure the first baby has a nasal bone so it makes me feel better (i can see it in the scan) but the second one since in the picture he is backward I can't overanalyze it lol

@xreadytoglow do you have any more scan pics where you can see the genital area more clearly (the last one has a bit of shadow there)? I've been doing a deep dive into the nub theory lol so I feel pretty confident i could give u at least a good guess LOL.

@2mumlife thank you so much!

Bluehawaii29 · 03/06/2022 19:08

@Overlyanxious thanks, yeah I really hope tomorrow shows some signs of improvement as it’s scary when there’s no end in sight. I’m currently in bed but can smell lamb curry downstairs that my mother in law made for husband and am really wishing I could eat it. It’s so hard not to have any food with flavour. Also doesn’t help the mood. Yeah I wish we could rewire our brains to be more positive too but I get a protective mechanism that we have. I’ll let you know how it goes over the weekend but I’ve already given work the heads up I don’t think I’ll be up to returning on Monday

Bluehawaii29 · 03/06/2022 19:14

@xreadytoglow @bajanbump thanks for the support guys, Already making me feel a lot better so thank you x
@bajanbump sounds like you had a rough first trimester with the vomiting and diarrhoea. I was quite lucky in that mine was mainly gagging and then I became constipated but lactulose was keeping me regular. I stupidly took it yesterday morning before the bad diarrhoea started thinking that I wanted to improve my constipation. Had no warning signs that this was going to happen at all which is the scary thing but later felt the body aches pains and temp. I think our worrying is normal but it doesn’t help that I am 16 weeks pregnant and been told by everyone bump growth rate is going to really accelerate now and this week I saw my weight actually went up from 59kg pre pregnancy to 60.3kg and now it’s back at 59kg which feels like one step forward and two steps back but I guess I haven’t really been able to eat since yesterday and just having a liquid diet.

xreadytoglow · 03/06/2022 19:20

@bajanbump sorry to hear your sickness hasn't subsided yet! Hopefully you start to see an improvement soon, I can't imagine how debilitating that must be to feel sick all day.
As for the NT, why not give them a call on Monday just to ask? That way you can make sure and if it wasn't done, get it measured before the window disappears. One less thing then to worry about!
I do have another from a 15w scan I had when I was feeling anxious about pains I was having.. Not sure if there is a good nub on here??
I know these things aren't very accurate but the guessing is fun 🥰

@Bluehawaii29 do you think you could have peanut butter? When I was really bad I would just try to eat spoons of peanut butter because of the high calorie, proteins, and sugar.

Also, do you think your partner might be able to get you some protein shakes from the pharmacy? they are designed for people who cant gain weight, like old people who struggle eating, so i dont think the taste should be very overpowering.

bajanbump · 03/06/2022 19:28

@xreadytoglow I would say its a boy! (and yes, no expert here lol but just for fun this is my guess!)

I know I should give them a call but i just dread thinking they did not check and they will make me go back and then the stress I will go through waiting for them to measure it. I know is stupid and its much better to just get over with it, but sometimes i feel like my anxiety cant take it.

Bluehawaii29 · 03/06/2022 19:29

@bajanbump i think what I’ve read about peanut butter online is not to put it on toast for diarrhoea. I think it might aggravate the gut more but I wish I could have that. Protein shakes they will only prescribe by GP here and they wouldn’t be indicated in pregnancy unfortunately. I’m not sure why I don’t gain much weight but been told the baby was growing fine all this time including at my scan last weds so I think I was doing ok but this diarrhoea is definitely a set back. Just have to make sure I stay hydrated enough to not let it effect the amniotic fluid quantity. Thanks for your suggestions x

@xreadytoglow looks like a boy to me! We’ve been told ours looks like a boy on our 12 week scan by a contact we have who’s a sonographer based on the vertical nub theory

xreadytoglow · 03/06/2022 19:38

@Bluehawaii29 @bajanbump interesting 😁 I will let you know on Sunday if you're correct!

Overlyanxious · 03/06/2022 19:39

Thanks @xreadytoglow you’re right we are over the worse of it.

@bajanbump Fingers crossed you suddenly feel a lot better soon. My sister who had twins said she felt a lot better at 17 weeks (I know a few weeks off for you, but hopefully the end is in sight). I’m sorry avoid your anxiety as well. I’m sure it’s all fine though - especially with her expertise.

@Bluehawaii29 I think not working on Monday sounds like a good plan. I’m avoiding weighing myself as I know I’ll panic if I’m not putting any weight on. I’m sure before you know it you will be back up. Weight can yo yo so much.

Bluehawaii29 · 03/06/2022 19:51

@Overlyanxious thank you yeah I kind of knew weighing myself in the middle of this infection was probably not going to make me feel good but I’m a sucker for punishment!
@xreadytoglow look forward to hearing x

JMC91 · 04/06/2022 07:26

@Bluehawaii29 try not to worry too much, you’re past the 12 week mark so it’s looking good.

@Overlyanxious hope your anxiety settles down and you get some
reassurance at your next scan.

@bajanbump that sounds like a rough time. Hope you feel better soon.

I wonder if the nub theory is right. Can any of you see a nub on this pic from my 12 week scan, I’m so curious about the gender

bajanbump · 04/06/2022 19:21

Ladies, did you have any change of symptoms following the stop of progesterone? My gas has increased 10x ... now that the nausea was decreasing gas has taken over to make me sick.. it started yesterday, the first day without cyclogest, and still going bad today..i'm literally burping every 30 seconds at some points of the day

@JMC91 I'm not sure with this one, the shadow is hiding the genital area a bit, do you have other pics?

JMC91 · 04/06/2022 19:33

@bajanbump is that any clearer?
I can’t see what the nub could be. I have no idea hah x

JMC91 · 04/06/2022 19:36

@bajanbump i had a lot of trapped wind around that time but didn’t connect it with stopping progesterone. Can be so painful. Other than that I don’t think I had any other symptoms from coming off the meds x

bajanbump · 04/06/2022 19:40

@JMC91 I would say its a girl, but as confident as with @xreadytoglow boy prediction LOL

good to know someone else experienced increased gas around this time, and yes sometimes I feel like I have a ping pong ball in my throat lol

bajanbump · 04/06/2022 19:40

*not as confident

xreadytoglow · 04/06/2022 20:19

@JMC91 I'll guess boy! 💙 can't see a nub though on those pics, just a guess.

@bajanbump the progesterone actually made me really gassy. I was constantly blown up like a balloon bloated. It eased after I stopped.
