BFPs following IVF to take symptoms & scans

Hi everyone.

I've started this group for us to chat about our symptoms, scans and any other pregancy related issues after getting a BFP following IVF/IUI/ICSI.

It is by no means to leave anyone out of the previous groups we have been in, where we all offer advice and help during an IVF cycle.

We all know hearing people's positive pregancy news can be heart breaking. I just found on the group that we are talking scans, symptoms, signs and positive tests I'm very conscious that those currently mid cycle may get upset.

We can all still give advice but maybe we could use this group as our pregnancies progress.

I've tagged who I remember from the last group, please feel free to add others as they join us on this next phase of our journey or if I have missed anyone.

@Overlyanxious it could well be! Mine was like a bubble popping and she said that that's baby.

@2mumlife yep they're all old wives tales really! Be interesting to see if she's right.

@Bluehawaii29 bump pic as promised. 16+3 today.

@Overlyanxious That's really very random that appointment. I guess just put it in the diary and wait and see? Hopefully will make more sense as the pregnancy progresses. Yeah DP thinks it might just have been like you say someone saying a random pronoun. Still just going to wait as we're not having any private scans and my last few NHS scans are all growth scans. I'll be paying more attention to their language though for now on!

@xreadytoglow Yeah I'm curious to see. She's got at least a 50% chance of getting it right though lol

Bluehawaii29 · 25/05/2022 09:01

@xreadytoglow aww cute bump 😍

Overlyanxious · 25/05/2022 11:21

@xreadytoglow thats a good bump.

I got a letter today which explains my late October appointment. Basically it will be to discuss inducing me around my due date (unless growth scans show another birth plan is needed). I also have growth scan appointments for 30 and 36 weeks.

xreadytoglow · 25/05/2022 11:31

@Bluehawaii29 @Overlyanxious thank you. I love it.

@Overlyanxious oh that's interesting! Is that because it's an IVF pregnancy? My area/trust treats IVF pregnancies the same unless you have other risk factors. I wouldn't have turned down the extra scans though!

Overlyanxious · 25/05/2022 11:43

@xreadytoglow it’s because it’s IVF and because I’m over 35. They say I have a minor risk of having a smaller baby. So far baby has been measuring big. At my 20 week scan they will do a uterine arterial Doppler and if all is good I’m on the 30 and 36 growth scans - if not I’ll have 3 growth scans and I guess they may want to do a c section or early induction or something if growth isn’t where it’s meant to be. I’m happy about extra scans as I know I’ll be constantly worrying.

Bluehawaii29 · 25/05/2022 12:36

@Overlyanxious heyy I’ve got my first consultant appt in couple of hrs. Will let you know how it goes, I’m hoping they will check the heart beat x

xreadytoglow · 25/05/2022 15:34

@Overlyanxious oh I see! It's definitely comforting to know that you are being checked over in those later stages. Who knows. Maybe this little one will be a big 'un and I can have a couple extra 😂
I hope your 16wk appt goes well on Thursday.

@Bluehawaii29 let us know how your appointment goes! Fingers crossed they let you listen to the HB 😊

Bluehawaii29 · 25/05/2022 16:32

@xreadytoglow thank you. Appointment went well. BP and urine normal and they tried Doppler but was too early still to get heartbeat so she pulled out the portable scanner and we got to see baby again. Was looking bigger and moving arms and legs. Super emotional moment, heart beat 152bpm ❤️ Just massive relief as will be 15 weeks on Friday. Hoping to get some movements soon x

Bluehawaii29 · 25/05/2022 16:32

@Overlyanxious consultant basically told same thing as yours x

xreadytoglow · 25/05/2022 17:18

Aww that's wonderful 🥰 @Bluehawaii29

Bluehawaii29 · 25/05/2022 17:26

@xreadytoglow finally found out that it’s a posterior placenta, am rhesus positive and normal AFI (amniotic fluid index). Definitely found consultant appt the best so far. She’s gonna check in on me again straight after the 20 week scan on 6th July. My 16 week appt is the midwife one. Fingers crossed they will hear the heart beat by Doppler by then but it’s good to know they have the portable scanners to save the day!

2mumlife · 26/05/2022 07:22

@Overlyanxious Glad you know what the appointment is for. Its interesting they take into consideration your age at your NHS board (mine don't). I didn't get the uterine arterial Doppler either.

@Bluehawaii29 Glad everything went well with consultant appointment :)

@xreadytoglow I like that your trust treats IVF pregnancies the same :) Part of it annoys me that the mode of conception has meant I'm being treated differently. The extra scans are a perk, but I am a bit tired of going backwards and forwards to the hospital to be honest. Back again today (trip #7) to get my Mat1B as they forgot to give it to me last time... (though most of those trips have been my cervix not IVF related)

Overlyanxious · 26/05/2022 16:23

Thanks @xreadytoglow midwife was all fine. Didn’t get to hear baby - she didn’t have a Doppler. The midwife I saw isn’t normally in that location. She was lovely though.

@Bluehawaii29 I guess my consultant decided to write to me rather then have an appointment. Glad it went well for you. So nice when you have a good appointment

Bluehawaii29 · 26/05/2022 21:12

@Overlyanxious glad you had a nice Midwife appt. I think sometimes the Doppler add unnecessary stress as it is quite early still to get the heart beat easily using them. It’s good you liked your midwife x

2mumlife · 27/05/2022 11:58

@Overlyanxious I didn't get to hear heartbeat until 23 weeks - its worth waiting for, you'll hear it eventually

So, yesterday evening I started getting a lot of lower abdominal pain and bloody looking urine. Put in a urine sample to GP today and they think I have a UTI so getting put on a course of antibiotics :( So frustrating, its come out of nowhere as my urine test at midwife 2 weeks ago was totally fine

xreadytoglow · 27/05/2022 15:13

@Overlyanxious glad you had a good appointment! Shame about the Doppler but next time I'm sure 😊

@2mumlife sorry to hear about your UTI! I hope your symptoms clear over the next couple of days and that you feel okay on the ABs.

Bluehawaii29 · 28/05/2022 06:54

@2mumlife aww that must have been scary. Glad they found the UTI quick and your on treatment now. I think we all have to make sure we pay even more attention to keeping well hydrated as it gets hotter x

2mumlife · 28/05/2022 14:19

@Bluehawaii29 @xreadytoglow Thanks lovelies. I’m starting to wonder if I passed a kidney stone or something instead, as since the evening of cramping and bloody looking urine I’ve felt fine!? Not really sure about it all. Taking reassurance that if felt fetus moving about so all is ok, and started the antibiotics, with a probiotic to try to replenish the good bacteria!

Overlyanxious · 29/05/2022 14:27

@2mumlife that’s frustrating only 2 weeks later you have a UTI. Glad to hear you are feeling better now. I think feeling the fetus move is definitely a good sign and from what I understand UTIs are really common - still not a nice experience.

I’m currently suffering with my sinuses at lot. I have chronic sinus issues anyway but has been really bad the last couple of weeks. Trying to balance not taking too many paracetamol with the pain.

JMC91 · 29/05/2022 16:55

@2mumlife the same thing happened to me at the 12 week scan where the scanner said ‘he’ referring to the baby. I was 13 weeks at the time and was measuring a week ahead so I wonder if she actually saw the gender.

I’ve only got a couple of weeks until my 20 week scan now

2mumlife · 30/05/2022 10:19

@JMC91 Did/do you want to know the sex? If you do want to know, I'd be really interested to find out if it is male after your 12 week scan experience.

@Overlyanxious Yeah its just really weird that I only had symptoms for an evening and then everything felt normal before even starting the antibiotic. Seems really odd (I don't think I've ever had a UTI before so nothing to compare to). Everything else seems normal though which is reassuring so just rolling with it.

JMC91 · 30/05/2022 13:44

@2mumlife i will be finding out in 2 weeks time so I’ll let you know.
Kind of threw me off when I heard it during the scan!

bajanbump · 30/05/2022 20:26

Hi everyone! Hope each of you is having an amazing pregnancy! I will try to read all the posts this evening.

Sorry I've been MIA last two weeks were quite tough..lot's of morning sickness and when I was not vomiting feeling I would at any moment. Like a 2 week bad hangover. It really affected my mental health and how I was bonding with the babies.

I went for my 12 week scan this morning at 11+4 and both babies were doing good! First measuring 11+3 and second 11+5. First one I believe is a baby girl, although dr didnt confirm she said something like "It was easier to measure your sister" when she was measuring the second baby. She was talking to herself so I dont think she realized lol. Then looking at the first picture and based on the nub theory i do think is a girl lol Second I have no idea bc he/she was moving so much it was incredible. He/she is in the bigger amniotic sac so is like he is enjoying life in the penthouse lol

2mumlife · 31/05/2022 14:54

@JMC91 I can imagine, particularly as you wouldn't have been expecting it at the 12 week scan!

@bajanbump Great to hear everything is looking really positive at your 12 week scan! Congratulations!
