BFPs following IVF to take symptoms & scans

1000 replies

Justawannabemam · 22/03/2022 07:27

Hi everyone.

I've started this group for us to chat about our symptoms, scans and any other pregancy related issues after getting a BFP following IVF/IUI/ICSI.

It is by no means to leave anyone out of the previous groups we have been in, where we all offer advice and help during an IVF cycle.

We all know hearing people's positive pregancy news can be heart breaking. I just found on the group that we are talking scans, symptoms, signs and positive tests I'm very conscious that those currently mid cycle may get upset.

We can all still give advice but maybe we could use this group as our pregnancies progress.

I've tagged who I remember from the last group, please feel free to add others as they join us on this next phase of our journey or if I have missed anyone.

@Overlyanxious awww very close though 🤍
No I doubt it! I thought about just stopping yesterday because I'm so over them now 😭 I've got a full week's worth left over but I just can't find it in myself to phase them out. 😂

Overlyanxious · 24/04/2022 12:26

@xreadytoglow I seem to have extra oestrogen but I figure I should stop them at the same time as the pessaries so I'll just keep them.

2mumlife · 25/04/2022 11:49

Just catching up on so apologies if I miss anything!

@Justawannabemam wannabemam I'm sorry scan wasn't as positive as you would have hoped for. Hoping there is more positive news at your repeat scan. Do you get a single risk factor when doing the amnio with multiples? Or can they tailor the risk slightly for each fetus based on their NT scores as well?

@xreadytoglow toglow Yeah the majority of people on my due month group who wanted to find out the sex seem to have done private scans at 16 weeks. Dino dungarees sound adorable! My sister had a baby boy last November, so ours will be clothed primarily in hand-me-downs for the forseeable future! Orange discharge must have been a shock! Did you find out what caused it!? Enjoy your next scan and getting into your new house!

@Bluehawaii29 waii29 I've not done any private scans, and I kind of felt if things were bad news I wanted to be in the feritltiy clinic / NHS setting for that. But I've also had the reassurance of extra NHS scans for cervix, and I think the wait between 12 and 20 weeks would have felt really long without that. Its good they're checking your cervix length at the 12 week scan - I had to wait until 16 weeks to start cervix checks and felt quite anxious about it during that wait. They've been able to do all my cervix length measurements abdominally so far, so you might not need the TV - its starting to get more challenging at 20 weeks, so I reckon my last cervix check at 23 weeks might end up having to be done TV.

@Overlyanxious rlyanxious I think you're probably right, if all you expect is an easy time conceiving and straight forward pregnancy you perhaps do see the 20 week scan more as the "gender" scan, rather than being concerned about anomalies. Hope you can get some speedy treatment for UTI now you know. My friend got given a card to carry in her wallet saying she was Rh- incase she was ever invovled in an accident etc so they would know to give her the AntiD injection. I have a whole pile of extra drugs in the bathroom cabinet lol

Not much happening here other than horrible amounts of heartburn. Tried taking some of the liquid antacid again and it immedietely made me vomit, so I'm not going to bother with that again. Tempted to go back to GP and ask (beg) them to just put me on omeprazole this time as its just miserable at this point - even set off heartburn bending over gardening over the weekend, so its no longer something I can just control through diet

xreadytoglow · 25/04/2022 12:05

@2mumlife heyyy, glad all is going well with you except your horrible heartburn!! Sounds like you definitely need the medication now if it's just brought on by bending forward. Hope they can sort it for you soon.
So I did find a couple of posts online where women had said similar about the pessary. Not very many though, but a couple. So that reassured me. And actually that's gone now so that's good.
Remind me, did you stop straight away at 12 weeks? Tonight should be my last one!

Bluehawaii29 · 25/04/2022 13:27

@2mumlife hey sorry to hear about your heartburn. I been so rough as well over the weekend. Had some of my husbands friends come round on sat and was entertaining them/ went to Indian restaurant in the evening but my back was killing me sitting in the restaurant so had to miss his family bday dinner yesterday eve and all day yesterday and this morning was having a splitting headache. Ended up having to take paracetamol before it would go away, so nauseous as well. 10 week+1, someone please tell me it’s not gonna get worse! I thought it’s meant to be getting better by now, just making me feel so down and struggling with work as well.
yeah the cervix length just being checked because of my previous polyp surgery but I remember the fertility Drs used to say cervix looks fine so not sure if they really need to do it or not but just going to let them check for reassurance I guess

Overlyanxious · 25/04/2022 13:57

@2mumlife thanks - I’m on antibiotics which finish Wednesday so at least sorted quickly. That’s interesting about your friend with the Rhesus negative. Sorry to hear about your heartburn - it sounds bad. Fingers crossed you get the medicine you need soon.

@Bluehawaii29 I found my symptoms got worse around weeks 9/10 and then went back to normal levels about 11. So hopefully the same will happen for you or maybe these few days are just a blip. It made me feel so low - as fed up of feeling awful. I kept feeling really sick before bed which then made falling asleep really difficult, which then made me feel tired.

Bluehawaii29 · 25/04/2022 14:44

@Overlyanxious thanks for your reply! Gives me a lot of hope that the light at the end of the tunnel may be coming. Yeah I’m also feeling fed up and quite down at the mo at not being able to go anywhere or do anything due to feeling so awful. Can’t believe my husband had to go to his bday dinner without me, feel really bad but he said to me to just rest.

Overlyanxious · 26/04/2022 10:08

@Bluehawaii29 it’s good your husband is supportive and knows that rest is better off for you. How are you feeling today?

I’ve told a couple of friends now about being pregnant - one who is more like a sister so when I saw her in person it felt weird not saying anything and the other is moving away and I think it’s unlikely I’ll see her anytime too soon. It’s been nice telling people - but then I also feel panicked about saying anything too early. They’ve been so supportive about my anxiety.

Bluehawaii29 · 26/04/2022 10:47

@Overlyanxious heyy feeling a lot better thanks, gonna try and go for a walk today. Haven’t been out the house since sat so need some fresh air. That’s really good you told your friend, I told mine weeks ago lol but yet to tell majority of family. It’s nice telling people. Used to help me feel like it’s real

xreadytoglow · 26/04/2022 12:08

So I think it’s panic over.. 😅

When I went for my booking in appointment my urine came back with insanely high protein levels. Just one look on Google tells you that is not good. They also wanted to get me in ASAP for kidney and liver function blood tests. So all of that has just worried the hell out of me all weekend.
When I went today, I mentioned that I’d been drinking this protein powder. But it’s not like the usual one you mix in smoothies etc.. this is a very, very fine powder that literally dissolves in water and it doesn’t make it any thicker, it’s not powdery or chalky, and it’s blood orange flavour. I had a huge bottle of it the morning of the booking in appt so I just thought I’d mention it to them in case it could be that. Even though Google tells you that protein in foods etc shouldn’t affect protein tests in urine.

Long story short, she agreed that it could be that. She also said my urine had pink bits floating around in it! (Which wasn’t blood). Which makes sense because the powder is blood orange flavour and turns the water pink coloured 🙈. I’ve stopped drinking it for a few days so I asked if I could do another urine test .. this one showed absolutely nothing in the dip test!! Thank god! 😅 they’re still going to check my liver and kidney function though which is good. Either way I feel a lot better about it now! I can stop panicking.

So on another note… happy 12 weeks to me 🥰🤍

2mumlife · 26/04/2022 13:04

@xreadytoglow Glad that the weird orange discahrge has stopped and you've got a handle on what was happening with your urine results! My clinic used a reduction plan - so I actually started reducing meds at 11 weeks and stopped completely at 13. It was such a relief to be done with the meds! Congrats on getting to 12 weeks! Do you have anything planned to mark the milestone?

@Bluehawaii29 I'm sorry to hear you've had to miss out on events and still feeling so rough. Hopefully over the next couple of weeks you'll start experiencing some easing :) Sounds like cervix check should hopefully come back totally fine x

@Overlyanxious Hopefully the antibiotics do the trick :) I told 2 really close friends who knew we were TTC in the early days, as it felt good to tell people, but I choose them selectively as ones I also knew I'd want to tell if it ended in a miscarriage.

xreadytoglow · 26/04/2022 13:15

@2mumlife yes feeling much more relieved now! Ah that's good to know. I didn't take one this morning but I'll take one later this evening and just use one a day for the next week.
No plans.. except for picking up paint for the new house! We've said though that after our scan next Tuesday, we'll go out to Tesco or something and buy our first little baby grow for the baby to mark the occasion. I keep filling up thinking about buying something.. I've gazed at those aisles for so long and bought things for other peoples babies before wondering what I'd choose for my own, and now it's finally here 🥺

@Overlyanxious aw so nice that you are telling people. That's a big milestone. Glad you've got to share your lovely news with people.

@Bluehawaii29 enjoy your walk and fresh air!

Overlyanxious · 26/04/2022 13:50

@xreadytoglow happy 12 weeks. Glad to hear you worked out what’s going on with the urine results. You must be so relieved. I’m finishing all medicine today. I’m excited but a bit nervous. That’s such a good idea to celebrate by buying a baby grow. I do love going down the baby aisles - I love how tiny their outfits are.

@Bluehawaii29 I’m glad you’re feeling a lot better. Getting outside will be nice.

@2mumlife yes hopefully they will do the trick. I haven’t had any symptoms so I can’t really tell. I do hate taking antibiotics though - they always make me feel a bit sick. The friends I told supported me when I had a miscarriage before and at that point they didn’t know I was TTC so it must have been a bit of a shock.

Bluehawaii29 · 26/04/2022 14:14

@xreadytoglow congrats on the 12 week mark! 12 more days for me, countdown begins.. wow that explains what that protein was, glad it was a simple reason, you must be very relieved. I’m sure beeyrhjg will be fine now x
@2mumlife thank you, yes just glad to be coming to the end of the 12 weeks, in my head I always imagine I’m a week ahead of where I am to make the time speed up lol I’ve always been a very impatient person but slowly learning!
@Overlyanxious yes definitely going to go out soon. Was meant to have a half day and then realised clinical meeting was also today so had to wait for that to end as well. Just gonna get ready now to go out but waiting on pessary to do it’s thing. Can’t tell you how excited I am about not having to do them anymore!

Justawannabemam · 26/04/2022 15:31

Hey ladies.
Sounds like everyone is getting on okay. All getting a bit anxious as our pregencies progress. I certainly am. I'm going for another scan tomorrow. I've had a little bleed so I'm half expecting to be told bad news, esp with what they said last time about the two together. I'm getting to the point where I Nedd to know what's going to happen. I'm nearly 14 weeks and I've not been able to tell anyone yet. Apart from 2 family members. I just want to know either everything is okay and I can start to enjoy it or learn that it's not and we can deal with what's happening. It's breaking my heart all the worry.

@Justawannabemam wishing you lots of luck for tomorrow. I really hope you get good news. I am not surprised that you are so worried - it’s horrible being in limbo. x

Bluehawaii29 · 26/04/2022 19:00

@Justawannabemam good luck for your scan tomorrow, I can understand how nerve wracking it must be and I hope you can find some peace of mind soon xx

xreadytoglow · 26/04/2022 21:54

@Justawannabemam I have everything crossed for you. I can't imagine what you've been going through, it must be so difficult to be so far along and in limbo. I'm really hoping for the best possible outcome for you tomorrow. 🤍

2mumlife · 27/04/2022 10:31

@xreadytoglow Enjoy picking something :) First thing I bought was actually after our chemical pregnancy - needed to believe that there would be someone to put in the little sleep suit one day x

@Overlyanxious They sound like great friends to tell. Congrats on finishing medication :)

@Bluehawaii29 Not long to go until the 12 week point xx

@Justawannabemam Best of luck for your scan today - hope you get answers, but positive ones x

xreadytoglow · 27/04/2022 17:57

@2mumlife aww and now there will be 😊

@Justawannabemam hope everything's okay x

bajanbump · 27/04/2022 19:05
