BFPs following IVF to take symptoms & scans

1000 replies

Justawannabemam · 22/03/2022 07:27

Hi everyone.

I've started this group for us to chat about our symptoms, scans and any other pregancy related issues after getting a BFP following IVF/IUI/ICSI.

It is by no means to leave anyone out of the previous groups we have been in, where we all offer advice and help during an IVF cycle.

We all know hearing people's positive pregancy news can be heart breaking. I just found on the group that we are talking scans, symptoms, signs and positive tests I'm very conscious that those currently mid cycle may get upset.

We can all still give advice but maybe we could use this group as our pregnancies progress.

I've tagged who I remember from the last group, please feel free to add others as they join us on this next phase of our journey or if I have missed anyone.

Overlyanxious · 13/04/2022 07:34

@Frenchiepupmama glad you are feeling better now and over the worst of covid. That's great news on the scan. It must be so nice to be at 13 weeks. x

Frenchiepupmama · 13/04/2022 07:49

@overlyanxious how far along are you 💞

Overlyanxious · 13/04/2022 10:16

@Frenchiepupmama I'm 10 weeks today. Just had a scan and got to see baby move a bit. Now on the way to my midwife appointment

Frenchiepupmama · 13/04/2022 10:19

@overlyanxious good luck with midwife appointment. Make sure ur bladder it full, if it's your first appt they test your urine, height, weight and bloods. 💞Xxx

Overlyanxious · 13/04/2022 10:23

@Frenchiepupmama thank you for the heads up. I will make sure I get a drink beforehand

JMC91 · 13/04/2022 10:56

@Overlyanxious @Frenchiepupmama glad your scans went well lovelies x

JMC91 · 13/04/2022 10:58

I've been having sharp stabbing pains lower left side this morning, it really catches me off guard , comes and goes.
I think it's round ligament pain but I worry about everything.

Frenchiepupmama · 13/04/2022 11:20

@JMC91 hey, I had same pain felt like a constant stitch that came and went left hand side aswell before my 7 week scan with private clinic it was so bad for full day I actually couldn't walk fast (as dental nurse in a busy clinic not good!) so I called the clinic and nurse called me back and said unless I was bleeding or back/shoulder pain it was just round ligament pain. If u are worried definitely call your clinic/midwife. But she really reassured me and then the next day I was fine. Not had it as severe as that since. Xxx

Overlyanxious · 13/04/2022 11:29

Thanks @JMC91 sounds like it's the ligament pain. I worry about everything as well

JMC91 · 13/04/2022 11:32

Ah thanks girls.
I had something like bad stitch pains a couple of weeks ago it was pretty constant for a while.
This is more intense pain that disappears after a couple of seconds.
Hope it's just a different form of the round ligament pain.
Our bodies are going through so much at the moment 😭

2mumlife · 13/04/2022 14:44

@Bluehawaii29 I would imagine that the risk of a SCH coming back after its resolved is porbably fairly low. Hope you get some answers from your consultant :)

@bajanbump That's really interesting they do 2. I only had my hcg checked a second time to confirm a chemical pregnancy. Its crap when you get the positive pregnancy test and then realise something is wrong so soon after isn't it? Interesting you went for double transfer - I'm a really big advocate that only single transfers should be allowed to be honest, mostly because I was getting to the point of desperation I was consdering a double transfer even though it would be stupid decision to increase the risk of having more than 1 fetus take with a dodgy cervix. I think making single transfers the only option protects people at such an emotionally vulnerable time. I know I'm probably in the minority with this view though! The idea of the playlist is really, really lovely though!

@xreadytoglow @JMC91 @Frenchiepupmama Great to see things looking well at your scans!

@JMC91 Sounds like ligament pain to me, sounds similar to what I expeirenced in the early days.

I've no idea where my placenta is (no one has ever said) but at 19 weeks I still don't feel any movements, even though last cervix scan last week showed fetus is well. I think it massively varies when you feel movement, and from everything I've heard its often felt later with first pregnancies. Hoping I'll finally start to feel something over the next couple of weeks, but I've been thinking that for weeks already!

HopeSpringsEternal123 · 13/04/2022 15:06

Hi everyone - hoping for some opinions! I just had my 4th IVF cycle (first 2 failed and third one ended in a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks). I got my BFP on Saturday but I am concerned it is a chemical pregnancy which is so disappointing :( I did a digital test on OTD which said pregnant, but did a line test the day after and the line was really faint. I did one the next day in the afternoon and the line was barely noticeable.

Went for an HCG test on 4+2 and it was only 51 :( Going tomorrow to see if it has increased but it really doesn't look good. I have been experiencing a few symptoms - some nausea and boob pain, also been really thirsty the last few days which I thought might have been diluting my tests but the HCG shows that isn't a problem I guess.

Does anyone know of anyone with levels that low that went on to have a successful pregnancy? It seems so unlikely which is just so disappointing.

xreadytoglow · 13/04/2022 18:01

@bajanbump @2mumlife thank you 🥰

@Frenchiepupmama good to hear from you! Glad you're starting to feel better and all is okay.

@HopeSpringsEternal123 I'm sorry, my clinic didn't offer any blood tests so I can't help much with numbers, but I have heard that the most important thing is seeing it double. So fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Overlyanxious · 13/04/2022 18:58

@HopeSpringsEternal123 good luck for the blood test tomorrow. I'm sure I've seen people with numbers similar to yours that were successful - but as @xreadytoglow says it's all about whether they double. I really hope they do.

@2mumlife my clinic only transfers 1 embryo so they are on the same page as you. I hope you get to feel baby soon

Bryterlayter1 · 13/04/2022 19:30

@HopeSpringsEternal123 as others have said the doubling will be key. As a guide when my clinic test at 4 weeks anything over 25 is view as a positive pregnancy. Assuming your rates are doubling at 4 weeks you would have been at 25 so I'd be optimistic.

Bryterlayter1 · 13/04/2022 19:32

Edit - I should say doubling every 48 hours

HopeSpringsEternal123 · 13/04/2022 21:44

@Bryterlayter1
@Overlyanxious
@xreadytoglow

Thank you so much for your reassurance, I guess I will know tomorrow on my levels so that will give a bit of clarity at least.

Bluehawaii29 · 14/04/2022 06:53

@2mumlife hi yeah they basically said the reason why they aspirin is to protect against pre eclampsia and high bp from twin pregnancies but I made a personal decision not to take it now until I’m over 12 weeks. I monitor my own BP at home and it’s always fine. The recommendation is to continue it till 36 weeks so I’d rather not complicate the early development by taking it and do it later on if I have to

2mumlife · 14/04/2022 07:23

@HopeSpringsEternal123 Hey, I had a chemical in June, and what you're saying sounds very similar to my experience if I'm honest :( My clinic said anything over 75 was positive at that stage but they'd really want it higher than that. Sounds silly but I knew going in for my blood test something wasn't right as lines hadn't been progressing and sure enough my starting hcg was lower than yours, but had dropped to nearly nothing 3 days later. I was still getting a positive on FRER when blood hcg was only 5 (which is why I've sworn I'll never use them ever again) so my advice is stop POAS if you can. All I can say just now is I'm sorry you're experiencing this. My first ever BFP was the chemical, and clinic told me to try to see it positively as a sign I could at least get pregnant. Our next transfer I got a BFP and now 19 weeks, so keeping everything crossed if this is a CP you will get your pregnancy soon xxx

2mumlife · 14/04/2022 07:25

@Bluehawaii29 That sounds sensible. Not long until 12 week mark!

Bluehawaii29 · 14/04/2022 07:31

@2mumlife thanks yeah Smile 9 weeks tomorrow so the 3 week countdown begins xx
Wishing you all a happy Easter 🐣🐣

2mumlife · 14/04/2022 08:04

@Overlyanxious My consultant once referred to a multiple pregnancy as a 'disaster' which has always stuck with me, though my clinic do allow a double transer (just heavily advised against it).

@Bluehawaii29 Really not long to go. You'll be amazed how much they develop between the early scans at the fertility clinic and your 12 week NHS scan - it really is remarkable seeing a gummybear go to something that looks like a real human!

I'm so sad that chocolate sets off my heartburn so will be having a very un-chocolately Easter. Gutted as I absolutely LOVE the malteaser rabbits, but I know the heartburn pain isn't worth it :(

Justawannabemam · 14/04/2022 08:24

@HopeSpringsEternal123 oh I hope your feeling okay this morning, fingers crossed things change for you today.

@Bluehawaii29 plenty of time to take asprin, I have been advised after 20 weeks.

@2mumlife my clinic were happy to transfer 2, infact on our first cycle it was recommended. Also this one too. We can't wait for our beautiful babies to arrive. We are aware of all the risks associated. I feel its a bit unprofessional of any clinic to call a multiple "a disaster", they know fine well that embryos can split so even if you put one in it could turn to 2 or possibly 3 babies . People conceive multiples naturally quite often. Everyone's circumstances are different and have different reasons for transferring more than one like a few of us in the group.
