yup, bluestocking, i do indeed

SpawnChorus · 04/01/2008 20:46

Gosh - good for you controlfreaky. I'm sure all those children out there with names that are not to your taste really deserve your scorn

armyofme · 04/01/2008 20:51

rdk - i really like the name kai btw

hunkermunker · 04/01/2008 20:56

Sorry, Tipex.

And rdk, call your child what you like. But do bear in mind that I won't be the only person who thinks that this is what his name sounds like if you go for it - it's a kindness, really, however much of a bitch you think I am.

CoteDAzur · 04/01/2008 21:03

Kai is a breed of dog.

LynetteScavo · 04/01/2008 21:05

Kelan, similar, but already in use.

Also, not too similar to colon.

mummylittle · 04/01/2008 21:07

My friend has just called her baby boy Kylan pronounced (Kai - lan)I think its a lovely name and more unusual than just being called Kai!

Choosing a name is so hard, im going through exactly the same situation - every name I mention I like, somebpdy comes out with some kind of nasty comment!!

At the end of the day its ur decision - everybody else can name their own!!

Good Luck xx

CoteDAzur · 04/01/2008 21:10

'kailon' sounds like the gay version of 'teflon'.

Endless possibilities of ridicule building on the themes of being slippery, non-stick, and gay at the same time.

By the way, LOL at asking people how to spell a made-up name.

hunker, you ok?

MrsBadger · 04/01/2008 21:18

hunker tis a good a name as any other

spackcat · 04/01/2008 21:22

He's a bit of alright mrsbadger! Would chop off his hair though and grub up his teeth a bit, looks a tad too squeaky clean for my taste atm!

hunkermunker · 04/01/2008 21:23

MrsB, that smile makes me want to shit through the eye of a needle.

Bero, yes, I'm fine, thank you - email me and I'll explain further. Are you OK?

spackcat · 04/01/2008 21:24

'young man!' as Harry Enfield would say!

LynetteScavo · 04/01/2008 21:29

DH said exactly the same as CoteDAzure.

berolina · 04/01/2008 21:32

hunker - Yes, bit wobbly for a couple of reasons but fine really.

will email you later, when I can typee with two hands.

berolina · 04/01/2008 21:33

'typee'? what's that, a tepee with a laptop in?

gingerninja · 04/01/2008 21:42

I knew a Kahlan once (pronounced Kay-lun or Kay-lin) he was Chinese/American (so maybe more common in the US) and must now be about 40 so it's not a made up name or a new name.

Hulababy · 04/01/2008 21:45

I have cousins called Keelan and Caelan (think that is how last one is spelt). The second of the two is similar in sound to the OP I think.

oh spawn, just seen your post. am obviously humbled and motified by your views.

armyofme · 05/01/2008 00:02

cat64 - i do see your point. but i really think that being called kai/lon/lin/la/whatever would not really cause a huge issue 'later' in life. possibly, at worst, some of the children at school may have a laugh about it. but maybe the child would stand up for him/herself and find a timely retort. kids constantly rip into each other about one thing or another. i myself have an unusual surname which rythmes with some pretty unfortunate words, but i am really not scarred for life as a consequence. tbh i used to think it a bit pathetic if other kids ever tried to insult me in that way. very lazy piss-taking. not sure where you teach, but do you really think that babies should not be given names that aren't known to the general public? how about originality/diversity?

and although i acknowledge, the op asked for opinion on the name, the tone of some of the posts on this thread are incredibly sarcastic and as i said earlier, pretty unnecessary imo. she was just asking for ideas on interesting spellings after all....

jamila169 · 05/01/2008 00:17

It's Kailen - There's one in DS1's class and another in reception with DS2- it must be in a baby book somewhere, the odds on having 2 in such a small school must be miniscule

3andnomore · 05/01/2008 00:17

hm...I know a Kaden - maybe it should then be Kalen...saying that, then it looks a it like Kale, I suppose....

must admit Kai isn't one of my favourite names to start with, sorry and Kailon...hm....not sure about that at all...but tis your child your decision, you decide to make a name up, then your decision on how to spell and even pronounce it....people don't know half the time how things are pronounced anyway, even with regular names...

amytheearwaxbanisher · 05/01/2008 00:20

hunker you not a happy camper today
