Thanks @annie1994 that's good advice. Just buying a few bits and bobs now trying to get more organised, will buy a cellular blanket next 🙂 My maternity leave is all set in stone at work now and it felt great adding that to my calendar! Due to taking annual leave before my maternity leave I am finishing work on 17th June, 10 weeks of work to go! Can't believe how quick the time is going! This pregnancy has flown over since the initial sickness went away.

NamelessBaby1 · 09/04/2022 13:47

@ShellUK09 the 17th June is my last day for work too! Scary how quickly it's going in, but I'm already so done with work the last few weeks will be torture lol.

I haven't bought anything like sleeping bags of blankets yet, although I've had a couple crocheted/ knitted by the grannies!

Porridgeislife · 09/04/2022 14:24

Me too! Pretty sure I’m finishing on the 17th. That gives me two weeks free and then I’ll be booked in for ELCS in the following week.

I haven’t bought any clothes for the baby. I’ve been looking at baby nightgowns as apparently they’re a bit easier than sleepsuits but haven’t pressed the button yet.

ShellUK09 · 09/04/2022 15:48

@Porridgeislife @NamelessBaby1 wow really! That's good we are all finishing then, I can't wait to finish work! There's a few bank hols before then and got some time off around Easter so I think it'll fly, which is also slightly scary!

MollyRover · 10/04/2022 08:27

Anyone have any good free resources for birth preparation? Can't remember much from 5+ years ago and I've already shelled out €150 on what's going to amount to 6 hours of talking about how great the pregnancy yoga teacher's guru is 🙄. Preferably something that considers partners role too, I feel like DH isn't really connecting as much with the pregnancy this time around and I'd like to do something together.

SPea · 10/04/2022 14:04

@MollyRover I did the Baby Care Workshop from Baby Academy a couple of weeks back, I'm a FTM with no clue on anything, and this was really good for giving the basics on nappy changing, bath time etc. It's a couple hours online with a Midwife, she presents in real time and you can ask questions by the chat box. I think they also do a breastfeeding one and Baby safety which I was thinking of booking closer to my delivery date. I may even redo this one for a refresher tho have booked NCT too, so may not bother if there's duplication!

At the end they do try and promote their full paid course, but this one was definitely still beneficial on its own.

MollyRover · 10/04/2022 15:56

Thanks so much @SPea, we'll definitely look in to those!!

Coco9910 · 10/04/2022 17:24

@MollyRover I did the same course as @SPea from the baby academy and it was so good and so informative! I did their introduction to breast feeding free course last week and that was really good too!

MollyRover · 10/04/2022 17:29

@Coco9910 @SPea unfortunately I've checked and the next course dates (in April and May) don't suit and/or are full. I'll check back, don't know how regularly they are run. So any more suggestions are very welcome!!

missv556 · 11/04/2022 08:18

Today's the day I finally do the dreaded diabetes test, I'm already hungry 😫 fml

feliznavidad2 · 11/04/2022 08:35

Good luck @missv556 mine is tomorrow

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 11/04/2022 08:36

Thanks @SPea!, never heard of this, have booked DH and I onto the next free course

missv556 · 11/04/2022 09:18

Ok so I think the worst part of the test is gonna be sitting for 2 hours. Drawing the blood was difficult cos apparently I have thin veins so the blood had to be taken from the back of my hand. The drink wasn't bad at all, I quite liked it actually 😂 its like squash.

SamanthaVimes · 11/04/2022 09:53

@missv556 I’ve got tricky veins too, after a couple of goes they got a different midwife, apparently her nickname is “the vampire” because she’s so good at getting blood 😂

The wait was definitely the worst bit for me, so uncomfy on the waiting room chairs!

strawberrysummer19 · 11/04/2022 10:00

So a little update my DRs surgery has just called - a week or so ago I had signs of uti, but it came back inconclusive but there was signs of blood in my urine with a high white blood xell count so pointed to infection of some sort

They asked me to produce another sample and it's come back no infection (which is good) but blood in urine again so now I'm worried

Put me on a list for Gp to call this morning

So worried now

X

UncomfortableBadger · 11/04/2022 10:52

Just back from my glucose tolerance test - nowhere near as bad as I’d feared. The lovely nurse had mixed up the flavourless drink for me which was almost just like water so I was able to drink the entire thing without throwing up, despite ongoing hyperemesis.

Did give me horrible indigestion though so I was gagging for an indigestion tablet once the second blood draw was done Grin

NamelessBaby1 · 11/04/2022 15:21

@strawberrysummer19 poor you, that would be a little bit worrying, but hopefully it's nothing serious that won't sort itself out soon.

@samanthaVimes love the name for the nurse!

Glad to hear the test hasn't been too bad for anyone so far. I have mine tomorrow, not so worried about the test itself as the results as I really can't be bothered with the hassle of having to reduce carbs etc, couldn't even manage that when on slimming world a few years back!

Re classes, in Scotland we get to do an online one for free which has been helpful so far, but I still feel I need to do something that covers the more practical side of parenthood. Also I can't get my partner enthused to join in , he's still a bit in denial about it all haha.

Lianna93 · 11/04/2022 17:00

@NamelessBaby1 I haven't been offered any classes from my midwife yet & I'm in Lanarkshire 😩 I see her on Thursday, so will need to ask her about it.

JJ1992 · 11/04/2022 20:59

Really childish but I just decided to play a wee game with my partner called bum or bump where im sending him pictures of one or the other and he has to guess which it is 😂 if anyone needs a giggle today give it a go! You can really throw them by putting your pj top on backwards too 😂💀

NamelessBaby1 · 11/04/2022 21:23

@JJ1992 that's hilarious, lol. I've started to actually see my belly move when baby does now, so just waiting to be able to show my husband that to completely freak him out!!

@Lianna93 you should have got a leaflet about it so let me know if you don't, it's a Solihull Approach course, I can probably send you the link and password if you don't get it!

Lianna93 · 11/04/2022 22:30

@NamelessBaby1 Thanks lovely, I'll keep that in mind! Hopefully my midwife will be able to offer me something on Thursday.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 12/04/2022 11:05

So here’s a (stupid) question I’ve been pondering

Nursery is almost set up - changing table, yadda yadda, just need to stock up the shelves with nappies / creams / errr whatever else it is that is needed for babies Grin (haven’t got to the chapter in that bit of the book yet!)

My friend is saying I need a portable nappy changing box / bag thingy, that I keep downstairs in the living room, for daytime nappy changing. Wouldn’t I just take the baby upstairs to change it though whenever it needs to?
Can’t imagine wanting to change a potentially poonami explosion on the new carpet!, mat or no mat!, or am I missing something?

NamelessBaby1 · 12/04/2022 11:12

@HotToddyColdSauvignon I imagine it's just to save the hassle of going up and down the stairs when you might not feel like it? I haven't thought that far ahead yet either though, I have a wee second hand changing mat for upstairs but will probably get another one for downstairs just in case as well as keep some supplies in both places. It's probably hard to tell what works best until you're actually dealing with it though.

Just had my glucose tolerance test too - it really was a sickly sweet drink but managed to down it pretty quickly, lol. Just the wait for the results now...

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 12/04/2022 11:18

Ah ok. I may use it as my exercise for the day!

Good luck with the test, and happy eating when you’re finally allowed to again!

SamanthaVimes · 12/04/2022 12:01

@HotToddyColdSauvignon with DD we just took her upstairs every time she needed changing but I recently got another mat for downstairs as I won’t be able to take them both up and down the stairs 10 times a day and I’m honestly wondering why I didn’t do it sooner! It’s already been very helpful for just DD.
