@ShellUK09 I had my 25w appointment today as well. She did tell me about the glucose challenge test so I’m booked for that and my 28w appointment on the same day. Apart from that I finally got my MATB1, had blood pressure checked, baby’s heartbeat and offered the whooping cough vaccine which I’ve already had.

She also offered antenatal classes, all on YouTube except for a Zoom breastfeeding session.

@KizboBaggins we actually picked up a Baby Bjorn bouncer off Facebook Marketplace last weekend. They’re expensive new (£225) but quite reasonable second hand and pretty much everyone I know says their baby loved it.

KizboBaggins · 06/04/2022 19:39

@Porridgeislife yes I've seen during my "research" that those are good (ie I googled "what's the best bouncer" lol).

I've seen one on Fb near me but looks in not very good condition. Might hold off. How much did you pay? (If you don't mind me asking) they're going for between £40 and £150 second hand

Hope I get offered some antenatal classes and a breastfeeding class too. They sound great. Currently i couldn't even comfortably change a nappy Confused

ShellUK09 · 06/04/2022 19:53

@KizboBaggins yes it must vary depending on your area. I just feel I need some sort of class about practical stuff, and if it is online that's better than nothing. I have also downloaded a hypno birthing course from the positive birth company and that was £39 and seems helpful so far. I'll try anything that will help me stay calmer in labour! Yeah it was interesting about the gro sleep bags but glad she said that, will just be buying cellular blankets instead. Be interested to hear what your midwife says about it tomorrow! Hope you get to hear the heartbeat, it took her a while to find it today but we could both feel her moving around at the time so that was why!

I actually just bought a bouncer last weekend. I had been looking at the baby bjorn bouncers, they are £185 in the shops and I wasn't sure they were really worth that. Managed to find one second hand on Facebook market place for £90 and it is immaculate and includes the two toy bars which cost in the shops £40 and £46 each! The cover is washable anyway so I felt ok about getting this second hand and I can tell it's been looked after. It is definitely worth a look for second hand!

@CaptainCarp ah thanks! No they didn't mention it at booking in so I mustn't be down for the test. Forgot to say before she sent my urine sample off to the lab as she said it included a small amount of protein and could be a water infection. I don't have any pain although sometimes after emptying my bladder I still feel I could have emptied more and she said that can be a symptom, I just thought that was a part of pregnancy! Will find out in a few days anyway, all these things no one tells you about being pregnant 😬

ShellUK09 · 06/04/2022 19:59

@Porridgeislife yes I was so glad to finally get the form today too, work have been pestering me for it for ages! Can get all my maternity dates in the calendar now as work want to advertise for my cover soon. Yes I had the whooping cough vaccine about a month ago and she asked about the flu vaccine but I had that before Christmas. The baby bjorn bouncer looks like it will be a life saver, it's a good buy and especially if you can get it at a bargain price.

Porridgeislife · 06/04/2022 20:11

@KizboBaggins I paid £70 for the Balance version which included the toy bar. I have to admit I didn’t factor going into the sketchiest part of our local town for pick up but seller seemed quite nice.

I’ve figured if she really likes it I can buy a second cover new and won’t feel too bad about it.

NamelessBaby1 · 06/04/2022 20:18

@Spottybutterfly I'm not an expert on vaccines but from what I read it certainly does look like the same one, so I'd definitely mention that to your midwife! They definitely don't make it clear that it's a combined one until you get the leaflet , but apparently there is no such thing as a vaccine for whooping cough only.

SamanthaVimes · 06/04/2022 21:25

@KizboBaggins we have a very basic bouncy chair (no toy bar) from Argos that was about £20 and it’s been great, DD still sits in it occasionally (although I’m sure she must be well over the weight limit now!)

missv556 · 07/04/2022 07:44

@ShellUK09 my midwife found a small amount of protein in my urine when I saw her at 22 weeks, it was checked again at 24 weeks and there was none to be found. She said the increase of discharge can be the cause sometimes.

www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/baby/bouncers-swings-and-rockers/baby-bouncers/joie-wish-baby-bouncer-petite/p/8001021 this is the rocker I got

ShellUK09 · 07/04/2022 09:00

@missv556 ah thank you, that may be it as I do get white discharge at times which she said was normal. Will just see if I get a call today or tomorrow...

I've been thinking of buying a small play pen for the living room as well as we have a little dog and want a space where the baby's toys and the dog's toys are separated! Seen something like this which looks quite good: www.argos.co.uk/product/3377589?clickSR=slp:term:playpens:1:2:1

Effram · 07/04/2022 10:08

@Spottybutterfly It is the same vaccine as the pre-school booster - I know now as I took my 3 year old for his pre-school booster in the same appointment as my 'whooping cough' jab and it was literally out of the same box for both of us! so definitely mention the reaction.

@strawberrysummer19 you can take caneston pessary as well as cream in pregnancy, they're both fine (I think they just say not to use the applicator). I used it last week and it was such a relief.

I had GTT last week as my last baby was giant (11lb+) but luckily I don't have GD, huzzah. I think standard procedure is the full glucose tolerance test is just for people with risk factors e.g. family hx, previous big baby etc, but they check for sugar in urine at every midwife appointment.

I think 28 week bloods check iron levels and the usual spread of things, also blood type if you're rhesus negative to get ready for Anti-D (which I have next week).

I had an extra scan on Monday due to having covid a few months ago, and baby is estimated at 3lb6. I take this with a HUGE pinch of salt as the scans are up to 20% out in either direction, but it was certainly nice to see them kicking around in there again! Next scan will be to check position at 36 weeks (although I'm having it at 35 as will be on holiday at 36). This pregnancy is just going so fast!! I'm not ready. Hitting the third trimester I do suddenly feel SO pregnant though, huge and lumbering.

Effram · 07/04/2022 10:13

My tuppence on bouncers - the baby Bjorn one Is really good and it sort of self bounces when they kick well and folds flat really easily which is great for storage - but I wouldn't pay full price at all. but We have a mother care one which was a hand me down and must now be on about its 8th child and it has served us just as well!

KizboBaggins · 07/04/2022 14:52

I had my midwife appt today, which went well - finally got to hear baby's heartbeat and record it for DH (and DM...) and it was lovely. She said I was "very full of baby" which I'm hoping is a good thing haha

Also found out antenatal classes are back on face to face and she'll book me in for about 32 weeks which I'm hugely relieved about. Apparently they do one on feeding, one of labour and one on support after birth which all sounds great.

I asked about sleeping gro bags btw @ShellUK09 and she said they're fine as long as of course they're closed up to the neck so interesting your midwife thought otherwise. What's the alternative? Swaddling?

purpleskyssssss · 07/04/2022 15:13

Hello all, hope everyone is doing well!

I've been very quiet had a lot going on & I am soon approaching the third trimester Grin going soo fast!

I have my glucose test next week but only reason I have it, is because of my ethnicity.

I was also looking at the baby bjorn and have heard really positive reviews but also some regarding if it is really worth the price, a friend of mine has had a baby a couple of months ago and she suggested this one she gets - looks very similar just 1/4 of the price - I won't be leaving baby in it for long periods of time and if he don't like it I haven't lost out on lots of money...

ShellUK09 · 07/04/2022 16:34

@KizboBaggins awww glad your appointment went well and you heard the heartbeat 🥰 and good news your classes are in-person!

Isn't it strange how we can all get such different advice! I must admit I did like the look of the sleeping gro bags but I'm put off now. Although I wonder if it is only if you have a small baby you have to be wary? The alternative she gave me was to use a cellular blanket.

@purpleskyssssss I know the time is flying for me too, I think once I got over the awful sickness of the first few months the rest has flown. Wow that is a very good baby bjorn copy!

strawberrysummer19 · 07/04/2022 17:19

Anyone had a UTI in pregnancy?!

Just had my results back and DR said it didn't show infection but said something about a small amount of blood which was detected along with red and white blood cell count (one was 10 one was 100 can't remember what way round!) but he said possibly relates to an infection so suggested he treats for an infection

Been prescribed amoxicillin and to repeat the test

Feel a bit worried 😟

KizboBaggins · 07/04/2022 17:45

@ShellUK09 ahh ok, so I think I'm definitely going to buy cellular blankets too, it can't hurt to get them and weigh up my options when baby is here. At least it's one of the cheaper purchases!

Has anyone ordered a Cosatto Giggle travel system from online4baby by any chance? I'm stuck between two. One has some adapters (Giggle Lite) and the other has a removable carry cot (Giggle 2)... what I can't work out is if adapters are required for the Giggle 2 as they're not included. Man it's so overwhelming. There are far too many decisions to be made...!

@strawberrysummer19 I haven't had one but I've heard they are quite common. But I'm sorry you're experiencing it, sounds stressful! Hope you're feeling ok and not worrying too much.

strawberrysummer19 · 07/04/2022 17:49

@KizboBaggins thank you, yes I've heard they are common too - I think I'd feel more reassured if he just said it was definitely an UTI but it's this blood count and infection talk 😟so I do feel a little worried.

Hate taking anything in pregnancy even though he said amoxicillin is safe in pregnancy

X

annie1994 · 07/04/2022 18:56

@strawberrysummer19 I haven’t had one in pregnancy but have had quite a few beforehand. I’m sure they’re common in pregnancy and doctors like to treat them quite promptly to stop them getting worse. Infections can really irritate the bladder/ urethra so can cause tiny traces of bleeding. Better to nip it in the bud just incase ☺️

NamelessBaby1 · 07/04/2022 21:35

@KizboBaggins I haven't ordered anything yet but I was having a look at the Cosatto travel systems earlier today (because they actually look fun compared to boring grey and black of others!). However I'm unsure as the car seats seem to need a very specific isofix base which seems to cost a lot more than other versions and I'm not sure it's really then worth it. So much to take into consideration! Also still hoping to get a chance to try out some at the baby show in Glasgow a week on Saturday so maybe after that I'll have more of an idea.

missv556 · 08/04/2022 07:47

@NamelessBaby1 ah I was also looking at the cosatto prams, specifically the mister fox design. I'm glad you raised that point about the car seat as I'd never even know to think of it. I will have to look into the base, thank you

NamelessBaby1 · 08/04/2022 11:26

@missv556 I haven't really spent a huge amount of time researching so I don't know if it actually is any more expensive than other bases, lol, that was just a lot of comments on saw in reviews for it! It was the Birdland one I really like though, might just go for it anyway!

missv556 · 08/04/2022 11:39

@NamelessBaby1 I saw my parents yesterday and my dad said he's buying the pram for me so if I have to buy a separate base its not too bad luckily if it is a bit pricey. Thank god for grandparents lol

Effram · 08/04/2022 13:16

I can't remember which seats it is but some cosatto seats aren't super safety tested so might be worth just double checking before investing! (I think the infant ones are ok but the next level up are not but I'm not certain!)

@strawberrysummer19 I have been susceptible to UTIs both before and during pregnancy. It's really nothing to worry about - they're doing the right thing checking it all! Sometimes there can be infection markers (e.g. increased white blood cells which suggests your body is fighting off something) before you have any symptoms and it's good to treat it so you don't have to suffer. Little bits of blood cells can be from irritated urethra where the infection is, or can be bits of mucus plug or discharge so that's why they can't be certain. You could always hold on to the antibiotics and not take them until the retest if you're not sure about taking them, and just keep an eye on your temperature (if you have a fever that's a clear sign of infection) or for other symptoms.

I think I missed the grobag debate, what was said? I've had grosnugs and the hilarious baby straitjackets for both of mine, before they moved into grobags. I also have cellular blankets and a groswaddle and use them all at different times!

ShellUK09 · 09/04/2022 08:16

@Effram it was at my 25 wk appointment, the midwife just happened to tell me not to buy gro bag sleeping bags for a newborn, she said it was dangerous as they can slip down the bag... So I'm assuming you have to wait to use them until they put on more weight? So swaddling or just a blanket is what I'm thinking initially. I've seen swaddle wraps which look good. Any advice on what to use in the crib is appreciated as finding it all a bit confusing!

annie1994 · 09/04/2022 08:32

@ShellUK09 as far as I’m aware you should avoid sleeping bags until baby is big enough for their head to not fit down through the neck hole. We just use a cellular blanket until then - that’s what we did with my DS and will do this with this baby ☺️
