I was wondering about that as well and would like to know what others who already have a baby have done, whether to buy something for downstairs such as a Moses basket on a stand alongside the crib upstairs? Or a baby bouncer? My mum suggested using the cot on the pram as a daytime bed for downstairs as you can take it off the pram and put it anywhere... It could be a cheaper solution and we don't have a huge amount of space. But there's a lot to think about!

missv556 · 15/03/2022 17:08

@Effram we just worry though don't we? I read that providing I take the medication the issue should correct itself relatively quickly.

@NamelessBaby1 I saw my midwife earlier too. Always reassuring to hear the heartbeat. I'll be hearing it every 2 weeks as I have to see her that often now until birth to monitor my blood pressure even though its totally fine. I also have to have the dreaded glucose test 😭 probably have GD knowing my luck. They found ketones and a small amount of protein in my urine today. Why does my child hate me so much? Lol like is there anything else he wants to inflict on me before his birth

KizboBaggins · 15/03/2022 18:07

@SamanthaVimes @Effram thank you, genuinely, these are really helpful things to know! Especially the snacks... I wouldn't have thought about that but guaranteed I will get hungry! Great idea about audible books too. And @Effram your description of your evenings I thought was just really cute - what a lovely little routine!

So with the side lying feed, do they feed while you're sleeping and then fall asleep in the bed next to you? I'd be so scared of rolling on them. I will definitely look up the safe co-sleeping thing.

@NamelessBaby1 congratulations! How far along are you? Was it the 25 week appt? I still haven't been allowed to hear baby's heartbeat but judging by the kickboxing going on in my belly right now I'm guessing the little nugget is fine 🙄😅

KizboBaggins · 15/03/2022 18:07

Sorry idk how I managed to make that post look so weird Confused

Effram · 15/03/2022 19:52

@KizboBaggins yup, you lie on your side and they lie on their side and feed, then we would just both fall asleep there. You sort of make a C around them so your arm goes out between their head and the pillow so it can't go on them, and you need to be careful with covers - I would have baby in a sleeping bag and I would wear a thick long sleeved buttoned pj top and then wrap duvet round under my legs so it could go over them. But my last babies were autumn/winter, this will be summer so I guess that will be easier! As someone upthread said, look at the lullaby trust for the safe sleep 7, but if you're bf especially you are just so in sync with the baby you won't move at all, and I would always wake up about 30 seconds before the baby did! I just found I got a lot more sleep that way. Sometimes if they fell asleep and I was awake enough I would try and scooch them over into the crib but it wasn't always successful, they were much happier snuggled into me, which makes sense when they've been inside me for 9 months!

@missv556 lots of love - absolutely the vitamin d will kick in and it will all be fine!

Effram · 15/03/2022 19:54

@ShellUK09 with my first we had a Moses basket downstairs we were given, but he pretty much refused to go in it - he was quite a velcro baby so would only really nap in the sling or on the go. So I didn't bother with one second time round as it took up space, and we just used the pram carrycot for downstairs naps - we are able to just wheel straight in so if we had been out and baby fell asleep I could just park him inside, but if we were at home I would just put him down to nap in there too!

Effram · 15/03/2022 19:56

@HotToddyColdSauvignon I would agree with @SamanthaVimes - I don't think they are necessary at all, especially as they're only meant to be used for supervised sleep. I would just use Moses/pram carrycot for downstairs naps, if you're lucky enough to have a baby that will be put down for naps! we were lent one by a friend and it certainly was occasionally handy but I wouldn't buy one new for the cost they are!

strawberrysummer19 · 15/03/2022 20:57

I have my 20wk midwife app tomorrow
What can I expect for that. Is it the same as 16wk ? She did the heartbeat at 16wks so guessing she will do that again
X

ShellUK09 · 15/03/2022 21:47

@Effram thanks, that's useful to know! If we can get away without buying a Moses basket for downstairs and use pram cot instead that would be great. Can then fit something potentially more useful like a baby bouncer in the living room more easily then. @SamanthaVimes two change mats for upstairs and downstairs is such a good idea!

NamelessBaby1 · 15/03/2022 21:58

@KizboBaggins I'm just over 22 weeks, think my midwife said this appointment is usually between 22 and 25 so seems to be a little more flexible here! Glad to hear your little one is kicking away happily though, it's such a weird feeling but so reassuring knowing they are moving around ok!

@missv556 argh that's a lot of appointments! Was thinking even one every 4 weeks or so seemed a lot, lol! I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with GD as I have such a sweet tooth and really haven't been eating healthy, but we'll see lol.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 16/03/2022 07:16

Thanks @Effram and @SamanthaVimes, DH is delighted that he’s “won” Grin

Means I can just channel the money towards an even more over the top baby gym Grin

SamanthaVimes · 16/03/2022 07:48

@HotToddyColdSauvignon haha yes you can get a really fancy baby gym now!

I’m thinking about getting a new one as ours went all manky from the number of times DD threw up on it 🤢

missv556 · 16/03/2022 08:44

@NamelessBaby1 it really is a lot! And I'll be having growth scans every 4 weeks from 28 weeks too. It could be seen as a ballache but for me I prefer they were too cautious than not cautious enough and something was going wrong you know. As long as little man is ok that's all that matters. But i will forever let him know what he put me through to bring him into the world 😂😂

Hi All, been a while since I posted.
Loving the chats about downstairs/upstairs baskets and sleeping, so useful!
Anyone else suffered extreme painful calf cramps at night? I'm 21+5 and it slowly started 2 nights ago. Last night it was so incredibly painful, my leg still hurts. I'm quite active during the day. Thinking of buying magnesium spray but not sure I'm allowed to use it pregnant. 🤷🏼‍♀️

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 16/03/2022 09:53

I’ve been getting cramps @Hope3821 - been trying not to have such a goooooooooood stretch in the morning as I can feel my calf start to jitter!

Trying to do more walking and hoping that helps, though just tested positive for ‘Rona grrrrrrr

Had a stinking cold last week or so, been -ve on tests every other day then this morning, boom, massively dark line. Stronger than the line on my pregnancy test Grin

Lianna93 · 16/03/2022 11:36

Hi ladies, hope you're all well!

Finally 24 weeks & the relief that we've reached viability is unreal!
Has anyone else started thinking of birth plans yet? Crazy to think there's not a lot of time left until baby is here 🙈

missv556 · 16/03/2022 15:11

@Lianna93 I asked my midwife yesterday at what point do we discuss a birth plan and she told me around 36 weeks. Seems very late to me. Don't really know what the birth plan should involve tbh

kiwi17 · 16/03/2022 15:44

@missv556 Milli Hills Positive birth book is really good at helping you think through a birth plan. It gives you loads of info on your choices and you create a visual plan at the end. However in my experience be flexible with your birth plan because it won't always happen as you plan! I had opted for a home birth last time but went 2 weeks overdue so had to go in for induction so I had 2 plans, a home birth one and a hospital one. They did read it and it was clear by the way they behaved around me, for example letting DH cut the cord and tell me the sex, minimal monitoring and low lighting etc.

Lianna93 · 16/03/2022 16:00

@missv556 That's the same response I got from my midwife too but when I explained my anxieties, she said she was more than happy to start discussing it earlier. I'm due to see her again in April, so hoping we can start the conversation then :)

SamanthaVimes · 16/03/2022 17:15

@Lianna93 @missv556 my midwife wasn’t very interested in birth plan last time but useful things to think about beyond the obvious are:
Placenta: do you want it to come naturally or have an injection to speed it up (injection can make you sick sometimes, it made me sick but I’ll probably have it again anyway)
Do you want delayed cord clamping?
Do you want baby to have vitamin k injection? (the alternative is 3 doses orally over a couple of weeks I think, we went for the injection)
What pain relief do you want / are you open to? (gas & air, pethidene, epidural, water birth etc)
Who will be with you?

From my experience last time they’re not really interested in whether you want music or any of the more airy fairy bits!

It’s also worth remembering that birth is unpredictable and while it’s fine to have preferences it’s useful to think through all the possibilities rather than get fixated on it going exactly how you picture it (eg you may find your pain tolerance is better or worse than you expect so have a plan for both)

KizboBaggins · 16/03/2022 18:38

@SamanthaVimes delayed cord clamping...? I have never heard of that! I've just done a quick google - looks like it's recommended? Will they do it delayed automatically or is it something that needs to be requested?

God there's so much to consider it's pretty overwhelming! I was just gonna turn up at hospital and hope he came out quickly lol

NamelessBaby1 · 16/03/2022 19:41

@KizboBaggins that's still my plan, haha. Just whatever it takes to get the baby out safely and hopefully as painless as possible lol.

Lianna93 · 16/03/2022 19:48

@SamanthaVimes @KizboBaggins I got given essentially a textbook from my midwife called 'ready, steady, baby!' That covers everything from conception to the days/weeks after birth. Goes over everything you can expect & birthing options but from what I've seen/heard this seems to be only a thing in Scotland, which is a real shame because it's very informative. Talks about delayed cord clamping & the pros/cons of each type of pain relief option during labour.

I explained to my midwife that I started having panic attacks over the thought of labouring - not because I'm scared to deliver but because of past trauma, I'm terrified to be that vulnerable around people I don't know. She's put on my notes about my PTSD & that there's to minimal people & minimal checks and has reassured me that she'll push for my birth plan to be followed & listened to but I did explain to her, if things become high risk then I have no issues changing things (ie C-section) but I need to be fully informed of what's happening at all times, my DH is also aware of all this & will advocate for me if I'm unable to but my midwife is gonna refer to a specialist who deals in trauma to help me feel more at ease.

strawberrysummer19 · 16/03/2022 20:02

Hi everyone

How are we all?

20wk midwife app went well, baby kicked out at the Doppler a few times and midwife felt her 😊

All is good

Apart from my rib pain!!!! Anyone else
I've had it for a few weeks but it was only as I was getting into bed and then when I'm laying down - now I'm getting it in the day ! It's so annoying and not as much painful but so irritating

It's only my left rib under my boob
My midwife said it's early still and I know it's definitely not baby as I'm only 21 wks and I've had it a few weeks but i remember my with first having it but sure I was bigger

Just horrible to think it's only going to get worse 😭😭😭😭
