@PeeAche my friend was told to take it very easy, but was not on bed rest at any point - and her placenta praevia was particularly severe. Then again her C section was scheduled for 37 weeks from memory. I thought bed rest in pregnancy is something that most doctors steer clear of nowadays, but I may be wrong. Maybe your consultant will relent, even if the placenta doesn't move?
For the elimination method - an NCT friend did it, and seemed happy with it. Personally I found I had my hands full with everything else to try, especially once weaning started. But I don't think I was particularly organised. You all will no doubt do a lot better!

BunBun221 · 16/02/2022 15:43

I am so tired today I've had to take a sneaky afternoon nap to make it through. Also for the first time in this pregnancy I'm so hungry I'm basically ravenous! I've just had to send DP to asda to buy pizza for my second lunch today and pancakes for breakfast tomorrow as I had the full pack of 6 this morning!

unknownscot · 16/02/2022 17:28

@PeeAche

Guys, is anybody here considering dabbling in elimination communication? It's just been on the radio. I've been reading up on it a lot lately and I think I'd like to try it. Alongside cloth nappies. My MIL thinks I'm insane. 😩
What is elimination communication?!
unknownscot · 16/02/2022 17:30

Just googled it.
No, I won't be doing that.

PeeAche · 16/02/2022 17:54

@unknownscot

Okay, basically, it's this nutty thing where if you anticipate that baby needs to poop (some do it with wee too but it sounds like a lot of hassle) you toilet them into a potty instead of just leaving them to crap themselves.

You offer potty after feeding and napping and they poop. It's not potty training because they're too young to be "trained" but it's just... a different approach.

We're using cloth nappies and it's popular with cloth nappy users. It's also said to be normalised in parts of the world that don't have such a heavy reliance on disposable nappies, such as in India or Africa. Although I'm loathe to cite this as an example because adopting something they do out of necessity and claiming it's "better" just reeks of the kind of privilege that comes with having all this choice.

The name is a little silly, but it's essentially looking out for clues that they're about to deuce themselves, (such as noises, timings and faces) and "catching" it in a potty instead. Thus reducing my laundry.

When out of the house, or if baby were being cared for by someone else, I wouldn't bother.

fpeg · 16/02/2022 19:14

@unknownscot

This just made me laugh out loud 😂

Props to anyone who can do the elimination communication! I think it's likely to fall outside of my skill set 😁

GrowBabyGrow · 16/02/2022 19:25

Just catching up in today! Ah @JAR1981 that doesn't sound fun at all, will keep everything crossed that the initial measurement was wrong and it's all fine. And that your placenta moves @PeeAche!

Elimination communication is something I love the idea of but would not work in reality for me! I think maybe if we had a downstairs loo... I just know I'll be downstairs and end up mistiming it and baby will poo on the stairs 🤣 Definitely doing reusable nappies though, bought some really cute bambino mio designs from Aldi that make my heart burst with the cuteness of them.

Today little miss GrowBabyGrow has been kicking away. It feels like she is using the bottom of my uterus as a either a punching bag or something to push off from as she swims around. Very distracting when on back to back Zoom calls but so reassuring after the panic of yesterday.

Annabell1 · 16/02/2022 19:48

@fpeg same here 😂
@PeeAche I think I would be interested to learn a bit more about it. Does sound like a bit of work though.

We went on our first nursery tour last week and I asked if they would be OK with cloth nappies. Unfortunately not :( So something to bear in mind. Not sure if it's worth investing in cloth nappies then.

And the nursery mentioned no potty training before 2, which sounds quite late. hmm

Lostintranslatio · 16/02/2022 20:40

@Annabell1 potty training before 2 to me sounds too early! FTM here though, I might be wrong, but all the toddlers I know we're around 2.5yo when they started potty training.

Annabell1 · 16/02/2022 21:58

@Lostintranslatio I'm also a FTM, so have no idea really.
I guess I was thinking 2 is late, because of what my parents believe.. Older generation.

My son is 2.5 and we are starting potty training next week. We tried at 2 and he wasn't ready. I'm hoping he gets it this time as I'd like a few months of not buying nappies before the baby comes! Most people I know have potty trained around the 2.5-3 year old mark 🙂
yellowpinkbluegreen · 16/02/2022 22:06

Hey all!
Loving how chatty this thread is.. it's my little daily joy coming on and reading how everyone is!

I had a traumatic day the other week where I had a light pink bleed when I wiped. Went to a&e and they were so lovely. Did lots of tests etc and it turned out to be a cervical ectropion which is essentially when cervix cells grow on the outside so can easily get ruptured. Anyway apparently it's super common so I just thought I would share in case any one else was to get this.

Like @PeeAche we also got told no more sex for a while. To be fair I kept getting UTIs so maybe it's best to hold off for a few months until baby is here. Although apparently that's the last thing you want when you have a newborn.... 🙃

In other news I did pregnancy yoga last night and really enjoyed. Couldn't believe how weak I was though. Couldn't hold my arms in position for very long. It's so weird isn't it how much our bodies are changing!!

destiEos · 16/02/2022 22:56

There^^ you are!!!

I got a bit behind on the previous thread, then thought 'wow, super quiet over the weekend!' 😂 only then did it occur to me to look for a new thread..

Anyway I've been following all your tales and nodding in agreement at so many things:

Sore ribs - check
Sleeping on my back despite previously being a side-sleeper - yep.
John Lewis appointment - check (We're trying to decide between the Nuna Triv and the Oyster 3, they only showed us those two, the Bugaboo Bee, the Uppababy Cruz and the Yoyo - no idea why) Now I've just spent half an hour looking at the Joie Versatrax...so....much....choice 😩
Sex - 😐 yeah, no. Luckily the sex dreams are vivid 😬
Midwife - useless
Maternity leave - HR confirmed today: 26 weeks paid, 13 statutory, 13 unpaid 😢
Furniture for nursery - still none - argh!
Quick look around the breast feeding and pooing area at John Lewis only confirms that I have no idea what I need. Bought some Mam bottles though because they have bunnies on them and I had to have them 🐰
Whooping cough jab - booked for tomorrow morning.
Constipation - gone - whoo!
Worried about glucose test - oh yes, I've never eaten so many sweets, chocolates and puddings in my life 🐡
Little one moving around - mostly late at night, getting livelier every day, (until he stops moving altogether for most of the day just to scare the crap out of me).

Phew, there's actually less things than I thought when I write them out. 24 weeks today, nearly there!! Hope everyone's doing well ☺️

AlbatrossSociety · 16/02/2022 23:55

@destiEos I really enjoyed your whirlwind recap 😂😂

We went through a phase of having a lot of sex at the beginning of second trimester but it has fully ground to a halt since things at work ramped up a bit and I stopped initiating 🙄.

My sister is currently moving house so clearing out all of her children's old clothes and baby things and they are all ending up at ours and I'm finding it quite overwhelming! We're knocking down this house later this year (what amazing timing!) and I'm struggling with the idea of filling this house full of stuff 🙃

EarlGreywithLemon · 17/02/2022 02:04

Our daughter is 2 years and 2 months and I don’t think she’s showing signs of being ready - we were going to give it a go in the summer, but with a new sibling on the block I think we’ll leave it a while. So she’s likely to be 3 before she’s potty trained. My parents would have a fit if they knew - they asked a while ago - but I’m ignoring them.
Turniptracker · 17/02/2022 07:10

I finally found a name for my struggles. Pelvic girdle pain. Just mentioning for others who may also be suffering, apparently it's not entirely normal to feel like someone has gone ten rounds kicking your pubic bone and violently clutching your inner thighs. I'm going to speak to the GP today about getting referred for physio so I don't end up needing crutches later (already hobbling) as midwife was very blasé when I mentioned it to her but the leaflet she gave me recommended seeking help as early as possible 🙄

destiEos · 17/02/2022 07:58

@AlbatrossSociety :) I love seeing that everyone is going through the same things at the same time - although there's so much to catch up on that I usually forget to actually post myself!

We tried to have sex very early on and were just too scared and since then - well - 3 months of nausea didn't help and now I'd be hard pushed to find some comfortable way to even try :/ we'e going away for a week though, so attempts will be made - otherwise I may forget what to do :D

Oh, that sounds amazing - I would love to just inherit a load of things and then just choose to buy the things I really want. I've decided less is more to begin with and maybe go all new - FB marketplace and Ebay have been disappointing. As for knocking down your house - WOW - will you be doing a new build? I'm excited for you anyway, it all sounds very new-baby, new-life-ish!

destiEos · 17/02/2022 08:10

Oh and for those struggling with names - I finally found one I'm very happy with and no-one likes it Angry. Which bothers me less than the fact that they tell me so, and try and talk me out of it! Hilariously my parents - who gave me a non-English name that most people in the UK have never heard of are the ones who are most strongly anti this name as it's too unusual? Ah well, I should probably have just kept quiet, I understand the mum registers the name at the hospital, so no problem there :D

fpeg · 17/02/2022 08:26

@AlbatrossSociety what is it about babies and houses? Also starting our build next week! We do have the major advantage of not having to move out of current house until new one finished. OH says it'll be done by Christmas but I'm wondering which one... 😂

PeeAche · 17/02/2022 08:58

I usually flip this thread and end up reading the new replies backwards.

I saw @destiEos and thought "oh she's found a name, how lovely!"

And then I saw @Turniptracker and did a double take, as I initially thought "oh dear, I'm not sure about Pelvic Girdle Pain for a baby's name"

Pregnancy brain?? Err no. I've always been like this!

PeeAche · 17/02/2022 09:01

@fpeg we moved last July and I'm living in a building site.

Midwife: "What is your home environment like? Safe? Any toxins? Dust? Allergens?"

Me: + pictures my home where everything is covered in fine grey film of dust and I'm climbing a ladder to get to bed +

Also me: "Totally safe. Thanks. Nothing to worry about!"

Ooh thanks - I'm going to ask my midewife about this. I've found walking is becoming painful - didn't have this problem in my first pregnancy. But yday I walked 20 mins to the shop and pelvis/ top of inner legs have been so painful all evening/this morning ☹️
AlbatrossSociety · 17/02/2022 10:13

@destiEos it is lovely and we're very lucky especially as she buys things way more expensive than I would so there's no way I'd be getting those clothes otherwise!! But there is soooo much sorting and organising to do and it all looks a bit overwhelming.

Re names amazing that you've found one that you love! I know that my family aren't the biggest fans of the names I've got lined up but one advantage of not knowing the gender means I can be very blasé about names if anyone asks and just say we don't know and will decide when baby gets here. Ultimately it's no one else business and quite a personal choice, and once baby is here and named then that name just becomes them and people won't think twice!

Yes we're building a new house!! Very exciting, we did have a few moments pause when we found out we were expecting but ultimately our current house is not going to work longer term - everything is falling apart, we've only been here since October and it's already been a money pit just to live in until we get through planning.

@fpeg and @PeeAche we love a bit of grand designs and my husband always commented on the 'idiots' who had a project coincide with a pregnancy and when we found out we were expecting we had a good laugh about it. I'm hoping we'll be into the new house by Christmas 2023. My husband thinks I'm being massively over cautious but I'm not so sure!

RoseValleyRambles · 17/02/2022 10:23

I'm glad I'm not the only one in DIY deadline land. Doing a big refurb and suddenly everything is a bit more rushed. If I can stand up for long enough, I may be pairing the kitchen this weekend, but with current levels of morning light headedness, that may be a pipe dream... On the plus side, the news was perfectly timed to switch carpeting plans to laminate in key rooms. Washable surfaces are about to be very important, methinks.

We are also planning on going reusables, though not full on elimination communication. I was thinking of getting the close popin newborn set to start with. Anyone got any experience with them?

I am still in bed. I would like to stay here until about lunchtime if that could be arranged. I suspect another growth spurt is stealing all my lung capacity, but if it doesn't resolve this week it'll be another midwife email. This second trimester may be fun (I love, love, love the little kicks) but gosh it's still pretty draining.

However, I am reminding myself that when I get up I get to sort the pile of cute baby clothes I've bought into age ranges. They are so cute! This plus the promise of raisin wheats may finally get me moving.
