@MrsNT I took raspberry leaf tablets last pregnancy and my labour was 3 hours- who knows if that's why though! 🤷‍♀️

RoseValleyRambles · 08/03/2022 19:18

@pregnancydiaries same here. I feel really guilty I might be squishing him! But I guess my changed position is probably making him change, and I can just feel it more in the area that's most squished. I assume the advice wouldn't be to side sleep if it led to squashed babies, and they'd probably have picked up on that by now Grin

EarlGreywithLemon · 08/03/2022 19:38

@MrsNT I did have raspberry leaf tea in the last few weeks in my last pregnancy- and also dates, which are supposed to do the same thing. Can’t say it helped me, but then you never know - it might have been worse without? Definitely worth a go, and it tastes OK so nothing to lose.
If you mean red bush (rooibos) tea, I haven’t heard of that having any effect on labour, but it is a good one to have in pregnancy. It’s caffeine free, and also doesn’t hinder iron absorption (unlike normal tea). You can also have it with milk. Not everyone likes it - but I do, personally.

Re kicks lying on the side - yes, I do feel more kicks that way, but I’ve always interpreted it to mean the baby is active, so happy.

pregnancydiaries · 08/03/2022 19:41

@JAR1981 @Vimto1991 @RoseValleyRambles so glad I am on the only one who thinks we might be squishing them 😂 I find myself apologising to bump and moving position but as @RoseValleyRambles says the advice wouldn't be to sleep on our sides if squishing was happening. Oh the joys of pregnancy anxiety 🙄

pregnancydiaries · 08/03/2022 19:42

*not the only one. Also no idea why that's all in bold

DaimDillyDoo · 08/03/2022 20:37

We put our Moses basket up today to check if we need to move the bed etc. is it starting to feel scarily real for anyone else? I'm starting to get anxious about everything... like what if I don't know what's wrong with her and can't stop her crying? What if she doesn't like me? What if I get it all wrong? Blush

Hi all, I've just tested positive for covid 😩 I know a few of you have had it too so looking for reassurance! I've got really sharp chest pains, an elevated pulse, and a horrible chesty cough. Did your midwives recommend anything different to normal because of pregnancy? Trying not to worry but I was hospitalised with pneumonia a few years ago so always feel a bit wary with chest illnesses now

Octoblockisadick · 08/03/2022 21:33

@Flowerbug1994 @Vimto1991 @RoseValleyRambles I agree with noticing times as such. I always get a lot in the evening, and I've noticed at work if my stomach touches the desk I tend to get kicked a fair bit.
He kicked my daughter in the head tonight haha. She had her ear to my belly to "listen" to him and he booted her in the head 😂.
I've also had tons of discharge too, fully agree with the fear of it being leaking waters @JAR1981!

@Starbeach I would probably be OK with it with 5 weeks to go, but it very much depends on how you feel. Plus I would also consider how easy it is for you to either get home or partner to get to you if needed. Plus if there are good/ lots of hospitals nearby.

@MrsNT I had my glucose test yesterday, it was fine. I took a book, but got a bit bored tbh, I struggled to concentrate due to people constantly being in and out of clinic. I would probably recommend earphones and netflix instead!
Also re the raspberry leaf tea, I figure it can't hurt. It's recommended after 32 weeks so I'm going to try. I've read that eating 6 dates a day from 34 weeks has some evidence too so I'll be doing that too. No harm in trying, I like fruit tea and dates haha.
@sunflower198 have they said what you need to do now the test was positive? Do you need to follow a special diet?

@DaimDillyDoo oh I get the anxiety! I think it's normal. I'm anxious about so many things! The current one is that I love my daughter so much how can I possibly expect to love someone else as much, which I know is silly but you can't help it can you.

Prema112 · 08/03/2022 21:41

@Octoblockisadick I know what you mean about being unable to imagine loving another child as much as your older one. We call our son favourite boy a lot, at some point we need to stop doing that I guess, I can't imagine him not being my favourite boy though!!

@mrkb So sorry you've got covid Sad I had it in November and it was fine, my dr put me on blood thinners so worth asking if you need them x

SouthwestSis · 08/03/2022 21:42

Oh no @mrkb sorry you're feeling unwell with it. You need to call your midwife tomorrow so they can risk assess you again for blood clots and see if you'd benefit from blood thinning injections.
Have you had your booster jab?

@DaimDillyDoo it's normal to be anxious but of course she will like you! You may not always know what's up or why she is crying but that's OK, you'll be giving her everything she needs!

Octoblockisadick · 08/03/2022 21:48

@Prema112 I'm glad I'm having a boy this time so I can keep calling my daughter my best girl haha!

@mrkb oh no, sorry you feel so rough. Definitely contact the midwife tomorrow, they'll be able to let you know if there's anything you can take to make you feel better too.

mrkb · 08/03/2022 22:10

Thanks @Prema112 @Octoblockisadick @SouthwestSis really appreciate it! I've been boosted so hoping that does it's thing - will also ring midwife first thing in the morning.
On the plus side baby is having some sort of party this evening so no fears about how it's affecting her yet even if I feel awful!

sunflower198 · 08/03/2022 22:18

@Octoblockisadick hi, yes I saw a diabetic midwife on Monday and have to test my blood sugars 6x a day. Hoping to be able to control it via diet only so limit the amount of carbs/sugar I can eat.
All my readings have been ok so far, but it's going to be a long few months of having to check blood sugars and not just eat whatever I fancy!

hellointhere · 08/03/2022 23:43

@mrkb it's called the Montessori baby by Simone Davies and Junnifa Uzodike. I'm enjoying it so far! It's practical, with simple explanations of Montessori and how to apply them in the home.
So sorry you've got covid I hope you feel better soon.

I have lost the comment but I'm sure I saw someone asking if anyone is still considering home birth. I'm still considering it, and if I do go ahead with that as my plan I will get a hospital bag ready just in case.

PleaseSendNoodles · 09/03/2022 00:25

Sorry you’ve got covid @mrkb - hope you don’t feel too poorly with it - as you say, hopefully the booster helps.

@DaimDillyDoo @Octoblockisadick I’ve had similar anxieties lately. As well as wondering if I’m going to be a good mother, I’m selfishly worried if I’ll hate being one. On one hand I CAN’T WAIT to meet my baby but I’m another way I’m so scared about the loss of freedom and sense of identity. Plus, Ive looked after my friend’s 3 month old a few times lately and she’s a delight. But after a few hours… I’m kind of … bored. Is that bad? 😬

pregnancydiaries · 09/03/2022 06:48

@mrkb hope you had an OK night and manage to speak to midwife today xx

fpeg · 09/03/2022 07:18

@mrkb I had covid about 2 weeks ago, midwife was very reassuring, said to keep fluids up. She also told me that if there were any concerns about bubs at all to still go in to hospital. They will still see you, they just isolate you. I didn't need to go but felt genuinely reassured that it wouldn't be a problem if I even slightly felt something was amiss. I lost 3lbs whilst I had it and my BP went up by 10 both systolic and diastolic, but has now returned to normal, steady weight gain now back again too. I felt properly rubbish for 3 days (from about my 4th day) then rapidly improved again. Still have a bit of a hangover cough and runny nose! Although it feels rubbish I figured that just before 3rd tri was a good time to get it as my immunity will be so much stronger for the 3rd tri where we are at higher risk. I'm double vacc and boosted. Hope this helps reassure you and hope the midwife does the same for you today. Fingers crossed you feel better very soon xxx

imhereforthecake · 09/03/2022 07:44

@DaimDillyDoo
Your Moses basket is lovely!

JAR1981 · 09/03/2022 09:36

@mrkb sorry to hear you have COVID. Hope you don’t feel too rough and get assurance from your midwife.

@DaimDillyDoo love the Moses basket!

I am anxious all the time but mainly just about the little one arriving safely and healthy. After waiting so long I can’t help but feel like something may still go wrong. Consultant appointment this morning so hopefully that will provide me some reassurance.

Vimto1991 · 09/03/2022 09:36

@sunflower198 sorry to hear about GD, hope it continues to be stable for you, atleast you will be well monitored! :)

@mrkb sorry to hear about covid!! Fingers crossed it comes and goes quickly for you, atleast you have it now before third trimester. :)

Vimto1991 · 09/03/2022 09:38

I had two sex dreams last night one after another, I wake up with really bad cramps each time, but two in a row has left me aching to the point, two hours after waking I’m still hurting! I’m hoping it’s just muscle ache from them being tense but I’m terrified it’s started something early D:

RoseValleyRambles · 09/03/2022 09:38

Another big question today: do newborns need bibs?

RoseValleyRambles · 09/03/2022 09:48

@vimto1991 oh no, that's stressful. Hopefully it is just your poor muscles objecting. Sad

pansytub · 09/03/2022 10:11

@RoseValleyRambles I'd say yes for both the sick-up and the drooling (if you have a drooler like I did). Would personally go for plastic backed ones so you don't need to do a change of clothes after too if it seeps through

PeeAche · 09/03/2022 10:12

Hi ladies, I've finally decided on a travel system, after a little jolly out to a nearby town that has a mother and baby store.

I plumped for the Oyster 3, and I went for it in a rather crazy yellow colour. It gets delivered within 3 weeks. Now I find myself watching unboxing videos. What have I become?

I really wanted the Egg 2 but in the end, I couldn't justify the price tag. Every pushchair I looked at had high points and niggles. For the better part of £2k, a pushchair should have zero niggles. And this is how I made my choice to go for something more sensibly priced.

I was surprised at how many strollers expect you to remove the seat before collapsing it too. I just never imagined myself doing that. 😅

The Oyster 3 feels like it should handle the country lanes by my house fairly well. I sampled a couple of others that had bigger wheels and I thought might be better, but there was other stuff about them that I hated. I also could not comprehend all the mud flaps. Where I'm from, they'd just be places for sticks and stones and other bits of crap to get stuck!!

Sorry to waffle on about prams. I know it's dull. It's just such an enormous purchase, you know? In a way, I'm just so relieved it's over.

I'm starting to actually think about my hospital bag now. Not packing it, but ordering all the stuff I might need. Starting to feel very real.

Oh, and we've picked a name. I've been busy!
