Hi! Thought I'd start a new thread as we filled up the previous one. Going to try and tag everyone who's been active recently - apologies if I miss anyone out! Feel free to join in.

I'm expecting my firstborn, having had 2 miscarriages. Currently 17 weeks and 2 days!

@TwoBulletsFiveZombies I had quite a lot of those weird dreams early on too, obviously just working through those worries. 7 weeks is amazing and I think that's when I started to be hopeful, as I'd miscarried at 5-6 weeks prior to that. Everything crossed for you!

Thanks @Louharding and @susiebluebell - time seems to be going very slow and I'm really unmotivated. I have a promotion at work, and an exam in 4 weeks I should be studying like crazy for, but nothing seems to matter to me except this pregnancy. Plus I'm just so lethargic and tired. Everything I do feels like wading through thick mud.

I felt ok until today, hit the 7 week mark and just feel a bit nauseous and bloated and like I feel when my period is about to start. I'm really panicked. Still getting a very strong line on my test this morning.

I'm hoping it's just in my head because I've not got to this point before. I'm not sure I can go through it again 😢

brogan12 · 12/05/2022 15:42

Hi everyone! Hope you don't mind me joining in!

I had a miscarriage on the 6th April, I was 5.5 weeks along when I started to get negative pregnancy tests again and bleeding. My hcg was only 6!

Literally 5 weeks since the miscarriage and yesterday I got positives on 6 cheapies and a clear blue digital! I was excited but the nerves have set in! I'm only early on and obviously don't want to lose this one too ☹️ fingers crossed it's a sticky baby! Anyways how did everyone else cope with the fear and anxiety?

susiebluebell · 12/05/2022 20:38

@TwoBulletsFiveZombies Ah bless you, I could have written the same thing myself not that long ago. And it's really hard to focus at this end of the pregnancy too! Someone on these threads said to remind yourself, 'Today I am pregnant' 😊

@brogan12 Welcome! Sorry for your loss. I got pregnant almost straight away after my most recent miscarriage and it was a mindfuck, honestly. I didn't believe it for ages and then I was waiting for the worst to happen again. We got through it by phrasing it as 'If it goes well... if it goes smoothly' and didn't build too much hope on it. Got through it a bit at a time. X

Hi all! Baby boy was born at 11.02am on Tuesday via elective c-section. He’s quite a bit smaller than expected, 3390g or 7lbs 7oz, and according to the growth chart we were expecting him to be around 4kg or 8lbs 8oz so we have next to no clothes that fit him well, most things are so big on him 😅

We came home Wednesday afternoon and have been settling in. He’s amazing 🥰 we’re knackered though, he sleeps really well during the day but overnight refuses to settle unless he’s being held so we’re taking turns staying up so he can sleep on our chests.

I’m recovering really well. Pain is minimal and every day moving around gets easier. Walking around is fine if not a bit slow, it’s twisting movements and getting out of bed that are still a little tricky.

Still feels a little surreal! But I hope this gives you all some hope and trust that good things are coming! I had two losses before this little man and no reason was ever found, and now here he is, full term and healthy 🥰

susiebluebell · 13/05/2022 12:13

Oh @GinnyBee wonderful wonderful news! I'm tearing up reading about your little boy. Can't express how happy I am for you.

Big hugs, and thank you for thinking of us who are coming up behind you! That'll be me in about 8 weeks, can't believe it!

Congratulations @GinnyBee how lovely! ❤

Louharding · 13/05/2022 19:46

@GinnyBee congratulations!!!!! Enjoy every second of it. They do get used to sleeping without being on you eventually, it’s very tiring while they do that but good you can take it in turns. So very happy for you ☺️

Flowerstem · 14/05/2022 19:34

@GinnyBee Congratulations! Happy to hear you are all doing well and your recovering well.

May I ask how you opted for elective C section as I didn't know that could be a choice? X

GinnyBee · 14/05/2022 22:44

@Flowerstem it is an option! Maternal request. You have every right to choose the birth you want 🙂 I told my midwife I wanted one at my booking appointment, she referred me to a consultant who I saw at 28 weeks, she approved me immediately and at my next appointment with her at 34 weeks a date was booked in.

Flowerstem · 15/05/2022 09:47

Aw that's amazing! I hope when we get to that point I can request one, I honestly thought I'd had to be under emergency circumstances.

We booked a private scan as I was getting so ill over worrying that a mc was going to happen again at the the same point....but we saw our little bean and showing at 6 weeks 5 days and saw and heard the heartbeat which was strong, if everything still keeps going well we are due 31/12 x

TwoBulletsFiveZombies · 15/05/2022 10:25

@Flowerstem I'll be due 30/12, we might even make the same day! 😊

Flowerstem · 15/05/2022 10:29

@TwoBulletsFiveZombies 🤞 aw that's amazing. Hopefully we will have a good Christmas and new year!! What a perfect present

susiebluebell · 15/05/2022 11:21

Ah two New Year's babies, lovely!

@Flowerstem there's nothing quite like seeing and hearing them for the first time, is there? Got everything crossed that it keeps going smoothly. Xxx

Thankyou @susiebluebell, it was emotional to hear it xx

Louharding · 15/05/2022 16:26

Hi ladies, could I please ask why you all would prefer a c-section? Simply to be nosey not judging or anything! Xx

Louharding · 15/05/2022 16:26

I’m about to discuss my birth plan this week so thinking of all my options, did not enjoy being induced last time 😬

susiebluebell · 15/05/2022 18:29

I also had not considered it before reading about you guys and I think I still probably won't. But interested to know all your thoughts if you want to share!

GinnyBee · 16/05/2022 03:55

@Louharding for me I think it ultimately came down to the odds of it going well. With vaginal births, especially for first time mothers, there are no guarantees how it will pan out. According to a study from 2020 the risk of vaginal delivery complications (defined as 3rd or 4th degree tearing, assisted delivery, emergency c-sec or Apgar score of less than 7) for first time mums without any specific risk factors is around 43% which to me was just too high to take the gamble. I didn’t want induction, assisted delivery or emergency caesarean, and the surest way to avoid all those seemed to be to have an elective.

Second births are on average easier than firsts, so if you’ve already had one, even if it was difficult and with complications, then the chances still are the next one will go better. Since this was my first and very possibly only baby I didn’t see the point in going through a vaginal birth in the hopes that my second will be easier.

Louharding · 16/05/2022 07:51

Thanks @GinnyBee that makes sense and those stats sound a bit scary! I hope you’ve been getting enough sleep too, I see you were awake at 3.55am eek xx

GinnyBee · 16/05/2022 08:59

@Louharding yes we’re taking it in turns! Little man refuses to sleep anywhere but being held at night so my husband and I split the night shift. Last night he was on early shift and brought baby to me around 2.30am and I’ve been sitting here with him on my chest ever since. It’s exhausting but I’m told they grow out of it and start getting more comfortable sleeping on their own with a bit of time. And I did even manage to put him down at 7 for just over an hour and had a snooze! 😅

Flowerstem · 16/05/2022 11:37

@Louharding this is actually my 4th baby ( 5th pregnancy) if all goes well but my partners first baby.

My previous ALL 3 were back to back labours and difficult ones at that, they always said it wouldn't happen again as every baby is different but I cant tale any chances with having another Back labour as it was horrendous and my ds got stuck as I have a tilted cervix - only found out later down the line after having him.

I honestly think it would put both of us under stress so I'm thinking about opting for a c - section if I can x

susiebluebell · 16/05/2022 12:57

Really interesting @GinnyBee I didn't know those statistics either, and this is my first. I've been reading a lot about how to reduce tearing etc (and getting targeted ads for something called an Aniball??) and think in an ideal world I'd just go with all the dates and raspberry leaf tea, doing loads of perineal massage, breathing exercises etc and ultimately trust my body. Not saying you don't! But I'm erring on the side of just going with it.

Louharding · 16/05/2022 14:47

@Flowerstem thats savage they were all back to back! Definitely a reason to opt for a c section, that doesn’t sound fun at all.

@GinnyBee hope you are getting lots of day naps too!

Louharding · 16/05/2022 14:51

@susiebluebell have you heard of the naked doula? She’s on Instagram I’ve found what she says very interesting. I had an induction with my first labour but even though it was very intense and long and complicated I did get in the zone in the middle part of it and just silently focussed on my breathing, surprised myself really. The naked doula takes a lot of hypno birthing info and is so empowering and stops you being scared of labour, we’re made to do this and can smash it! Xx
