Bleeding 5 weeks anyone had experience?

Hi i wonder if anyone can helping? I'm around 5 weeks pregnant, found out last week. I've just gone to the loo and there was some pinky discharge/blood when I wiped. I put some loo roll down there as I needed to take my son to bed and when I went back to the loo there was red blood on the loo roll. There's only small amounts of red blood when I'm wiping but I'm worried its a miscarriage. Not sure if I just wait it out and see if it gets worse or if I call the early pregnancy unit? Didn't have any bleeding at all with my first so this is all new to me. Any help would be much appreciated!

I meant to say I have some mild cramping but not anything too bad, I experience quite bad period pain at times and its not as bad as that. I have some back pain too but I've had that for a few days and put it down to pregnancy symptoms.

I’d call the early pregnancy unit for advice. I had pinky blood when I wiped at 5 weeks, but only after one wipe, then it went away. I didn’t get any red blood. I really hope everything is okay and that it’s just spotting, but I’d call the EPU just to see what they say xx

hypeman · 02/02/2022 20:01

I bled. Spotting / light bleeding from 4-8 weeks. This is my second pregnancy & I had the same with my first. I should be 9 weeks now by dates and seems to have stopped. I didn't have any pain.

I had a scan at EPU at 8 weeks and had a heartbeat etc but was measuring a few days behind.

I've got a private scan tomorrow so hoping it goes ok.

In my experience nobody can predict which way it goes. Some women bleed & miscarry and others go on to have normal pregnancies.

Definitely get in touch with GP / EPU for advice but they probably won't scan until 6/7 weeks.

UnspeakableBode · 02/02/2022 20:03

Thanks, I tried calling, they're closed. I just felt a little gush and went to check and now its more like a lighter period (mine are quite heavy normally). I really don't know what to do as I'm freaking out but aware that there's not a lot can be done if it is a miscarriage.

@hypeman thanks for sharing your experience. I'm hoping that it all works out OK but I have a horrible feeling about this as the bleeding is heavier than I would think of spotting as.

It's a tricky one as I've experienced both ends of this.
Spotting turned to bleeding - miscarriage
Spotting and bleeding again - baby boy.

Put a pad on and monitor colour and how much.

hypeman · 02/02/2022 20:11

Agree that you just have to wait & see. Obviously call EPU tomorrow but unless you're soaking through pads in an hour or two or so b severe pain then there's not much point doing anything out of hours.

If you're concerned you can always use 111 for advice.

blondieee · 02/02/2022 21:12

Hi, sorry your going through this, it's a scary time.

I too have seen both sides of this,
My first pregnancy I had episodes of bleeding the whole way through, and had a baby boy,

Last October i was about 4-5 weeks pregnant and had spotting for 5 days, very light, and on the day of my scan at EPU it started coming out heavy with clots, and unfortunately I had miscarried.

I'm now pregnant again about 5 weeks and have had a couple of spotting episodes already, luckily they seemed to have slowed down, so just praying no more now 🙏🏻

Unfortunately like you already know, there's nothing you can do, just watch and wait, deffo try and get seen by EPU but they only will scan you at 6 weeks I think.

I hope everything works out for you Thanks

A580Hojas · 02/02/2022 21:20

Yes. I had what I thought was a late period (didn't know I was pg, hadn't done a test) just assumed not pg at the end of it as I was bleeding quite a lot for several days. I was though.

Goose4 · 03/02/2022 08:56

How are you going @UnspeakableBode?

The same thing is happening to me. I'm about 5.5 weeks and started spotting a few days ago. I've had some blood tests to monitor my hcg levels and an waiting on the results. I'm not hopeful it's good news though because the bleeding is now getting stronger. Hopefully it's better news for you ❤️

UnspeakableBode · 03/02/2022 09:01

@goose4 sorry to hear your going through the same thing. The bleeding seems to have slowed overnight. I've called EPU but its just an answer phone and they say they will try to get back to you the same day but could be up to 24 hours. Did you go to them or your gp for blood tests? Fingers crossed for the best outcome for both of us.

Goose4 · 03/02/2022 09:12

Glad to hear the bleeding has slowed @UnspeakableBode everything crossed for a good outcome for you🤞
I called my GP who organised the bloods. She considered referring me to the EPU but decided it would probably be too early to see much on a scan, so would do bloods first and see what happened. The wait for results is agonising!
Hopefully your EPU gets back to you soon and can help

DragonMovie · 03/02/2022 09:17

I had bleeding at 6 weeks - bright red. Scan a week later to check and all was fine. Can you ask for that? I’m now 19 weeks and all fine ever since

UnspeakableBode · 03/02/2022 09:55

@DragonMovie thanks so much for sharing you experience. So pleased it was a good outcome for you. I'm currently waiting for epu to get back to me, trying to work to distract myself but its very hard to concentrate!

With our chemical in July, the bleeding started light then got heavier like a period and the pregnancy tests no longer showed a positive.

Have also had fresh bleeding at 13 weeks with this baby which resolved at 18 weeks. It was a 6cm Hematoma.

Hope EPU get back to you soon as the worrying is the worst. Sending big hugs your way Flowers

UnspeakableBode · 03/02/2022 18:18

Thanks everyone for your support. EPU called back and basically said if it was a full blown miscarriage there would be a lot more blood and I would be in a lot more pain. She said it could be nothing or could be something and really only time will tell they can't get me in for a scan as they won't see anything. She said to test again once the blood has been stopped for 7 days and if its positive to call them back and they will get me in for a scan at 7 weeks. So I guess its just a waiting game until I can test. Bleeding has stopped so really hoping it stays that way and the scan shows everything is OK. Thanks so much for all your advice and support. I haven't told anyone in real life yet apart from my husband (who is being amazing) so I haven't really got anyone to talk to about it!

@UnspeakableBode fingers crossed for you.

@hypeman how was your scan today, how far are you?

Livingmagicallyagain · 03/02/2022 18:57

I hope it's not too hard a wait for you, I've been there! Bright red and lots of blood for a full day at 5.5 weeks. Scan that day was inconclusive. A week later heartbeat but hard to get measurements. A week later all was fine. It was a tough two weeks!

Baby now asleep in my arms, so it can work out. Fingers crossed for you.

hypeman · 03/02/2022 19:55

@holdonbaby - my scan went well today thank you. Still measuring a week behind my dates but exactly two weeks on from last scan so growing fine. Measuring 9+4 and saw heartbeat & baby moving. A large area of bleeding / blood can clearly be seen on scan under the pregnancy sac which is worrying but apparently it shouldn’t interfere with the pregnancy as the sac is complete and baby positioned well however told to expect further bleeding. I guess if nothing else this shows bleeding and a healthy pregnancy can go together.

@UnspeakableBode I’m keeping everything crossed for you. I know the waiting is so hard!

HarryPotterGeek84 · 03/02/2022 20:00

I have been having similar since 4 + 5 (or what I thought was 4 + 5!). I was referred by my GP to the EPU after bleeding / spotting for over a week and I had a scan this morning on what should have been the start of my 6th week. I have a Subchorionic hematoma, but they could see the yolk sac and pole, but no heartbeat yet as it’s only measuring 5 + 4. I need to go back in a week to see whether there’s a heartbeat and if it’s a viable pregnancy but they said it can be high risk and it’s 50/50 at this stage. I’ve spent the whole day googling since and there does seem to be a lot of positive stories and so I’m trying to stay hopeful, but it’s really hard and time really does drag.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you and hope you get answers soon - do persevere with trying, the first GP I spoke to couldn’t be less interested but the second GP I spoke to was really good and referred me. It was a relief finally getting some answers today, even if it wasn’t the most positive of news.

UnspeakableBode · 03/02/2022 20:07

@hypeman so pleased all seems to be going well for you, fingers crossed it carries on!

OP posts:
UnspeakableBode · 03/02/2022 20:09

@HarryPotterGeek84 will keep everything crossed for you, let us know how you get on next week! The wait is so awful not knowing if things will work out or not!

@hypeman that's great news.

Mommyof2girls27 · 04/02/2022 06:11

Hey kinda in the same boat as you I found out I was pregnant 1/25 so that would put me about 5 weeks considering my last af I started experience some bleeding with clots not enough to fill a pad went to the Er yesterday they said it wasn’t much they could find right now from what they seen during the exam it was just old blood and to wait it out long as it’s not filling a pad they just want me to wait it out my hcg levels are 965 I have a dr appointment in the morning so hoping for the best

pippinpuppy · 05/02/2022 19:15

@UnspeakableBode how's it going?
