@Flowerbug1994 You're right- we are all in a great place now! For me, I was so so relaxed in my first pregnancy, went to Sri Lanka at 23 weeks with no thought of hospitals nearby.

Since trying to conceive for 4.5 years, losing twins in 2019 & going through IVF, this pregnancy feels so so precious and I am much more nervous something will go wrong. It's also been a far more worrying pregnancy than my first with bleeds, cramps and pelvic pressure all making me fear the worse. I'm hoping at 24 weeks I start to relax a bit and at 28 weeks relax more as the chance of survival if born early is really good by then. I'm not buying anything before 3rd trimester

Littlemilomoo · 28/01/2022 11:15

@RoseValleyRambles I’m Also wondering about this as a FTM but been advised I might need c section due to low lying placenta but won’t know until 32 weeks. So don’t really want to spend £200 on a course that might not be of benefit to me but then what happens is placenta moves by 32 weeks and I can do down the au natural route..

Littlemilomoo · 28/01/2022 11:17

I highly recommend following the baby academy on instagram! They are always uploading helpful videos and I did a free 2 hr zoom course last week which was really really good! Debating paying the £150 to do the online course through them as they also cover baby first aid and a lot more other than laybour so would be of more use to me than NCT if needed a section

Vimto1991 · 28/01/2022 11:31

I’ve been hesitant to buy baby stuff because I feel like I’ll jinx something, but that’s just me. 😅

RoseValleyRambles · 28/01/2022 11:38

@vimto1991 such good news - that must be a real relief to you!

Re clothes, I mostly just want something left to buy closer to summer. And maybe we'll know a bit more about baby size by then? I'm also thinking others may buy / gift / pass on bits so there's no point getting everything now. So until T3 we're focusing on nursery kit and all the big items, then we'll start to sort the wardrobe.

Vimto1991 · 28/01/2022 11:42

@pregnancydiaries @RoseValleyRambles thank you 😊 ☺️

Clomid1 · 28/01/2022 11:46

@flowerbug1994 My mum had a baby after me that died in hospital after 6 weeks.
Therefore I think the fear will never leave me that things could go wrong at any point.
As pathetic as it sounds I am scared of jinxing things by celebrating early and buying things for me is a sort of celebration.

But I can completely understand why people would by early. It’s definitely a lot more logical than what I am saying

aus12 · 28/01/2022 12:14

@Littlemilomoo I have a low-lying placenta too so may need a c-section. I’m a FTM & have decided to do the bump & baby classes. They include a baby first aid course & also have classes on how to look after the baby once it’s born, things like nappy changing, feeding (breast & bottle), bathing, sleeping etc which I have no idea how to do!
They also seem less preachy than the reviews I’ve read of the NCT classes near me.

Vimto1991 · 28/01/2022 12:26

@Clomid1 I have the same fear as you! Not sure when I’ll be comfortable buying, maybe around 32 weeks 😫

I’ve just had a look at bump and baby and there’s nothing in my county, like nowhere near 😂 the hospital are running classes, hopefully they tie in well with mine and DH schedule, otherwise there were a few private (and expensive) classes hopefully I can squeeze into as they book up fast.

ChildOfFriday · 28/01/2022 12:30

No Bump and Baby around here either @Vimto1991 Sad I've booked NCT (got one of the last few slots for the ideal one for my due date- I didn't realise they'd book up so quickly!) but I liked the sound of Bump and Baby.

destiEos · 28/01/2022 13:24

@ChildOfFriday also just checked and Bump and Baby is all booked up, added myself to waiting list just in case. Loads of NCT available...is anytime doing both? Think I'd prefer the Bump and Baby ones add I'm likely going for c-section too..

rathernotshare · 28/01/2022 13:37

I'm actually starting to panic that I've not bought anything! 21/22 weeks and all I've got is a bath thermometer (that I bought for me!) and some clothes given by a friend

Rolledthedice · 28/01/2022 13:48

@rathernotshare I’m nearly 21 weeks and not bought anything either. Like others have said, it feels like I might jinx it (as illogical as that is!) and I’d rather stock up closer to the birth. I still haven’t told most people or my workplace. I don’t want anyone to treat me differently at work.

rathernotshare · 28/01/2022 13:51

@Rolledthedice I wish they would treat me differently at work, at the minute I'm being run ragged 🤣 I had an operation at 16 weeks and didn't let myself wrap my head around being pregnant until after that to protect myself, so I guess I feel like I'm 6 weeks in but only 18 to go!

Littlemilomoo · 28/01/2022 13:53

I feel worried now that I’ve brought too much too early lol. Although anything I’ve brought I’ve either got from the sales or 2nd hand so made sense I buy now. I’ve even picking things up on sales for age 3-6m cus I thought why not.. am I mad?! 😂

Currently I have a snuzpod4 which I got from market place and collecting a mamas and papas dressing table unit on Sunday also from market place for £70 which are usually like £300 in store so was not passing that up!
Also got a gro egg as it was on offer, as well as bath thermometer/tommee tippee bottle starter set/health care set and few other bits all on offer.
Also started stocking up on sleep suits, vets, bibs etc from the sales and even a few packs of nappys Blush

I was the same when we brought our first house, I started buying bits over the months to spread out the costs so it wasn’t a big expense all at the end (and also my anxiety couldn’t take leaving it all until the end)

I’ve felt movements from about 16/17 weeks so I felt like I was ready to start picking bits up then followed by 20w scan. Feeling like I’ve got way ahead of myself now though reading how many of you are waiting

Lostintranslatio · 28/01/2022 13:55

@Littlemilomoo I also did the class last weekendwith baby academy, and I've signed up for two more classes, one in February and one in March.

CurryandSnuggle · 28/01/2022 13:55

@Rolledthedice don’t forget though that the deadline for submitting MATB1 is fast approaching. My deadline was mid-Feb although I’ve submitted it early.

Vimto1991 · 28/01/2022 14:05

@CurryandSnuggle you don’t need to submit matb1 form until 28 days before you want to start Mat leave. You need to tell your employee you are pregnant and when you wish to go on mat leave 15 weeks beforehand which is feb though! I don’t get my matb1 form until my midwife appointment in March and panicked until I looked into this!

@Littlemilomoo don’t let us put you off - if you’re ready to buy then why not!! I’m normally super organised because of anxiety, we do have a few clothes now, just want to leave bigger purchases until about March time. :)

Clomid1 · 28/01/2022 14:20

@Vimto1991 I think we’ll be okay leaving it to 3rd trimester. I mean I may be oversimplifying but main things we need are clothes, blankets etc and then a crib and a car seat right? Anything else can be bought later.

Someone tell me if I am totally underestimating this 😂

Vimto1991 · 28/01/2022 14:31

@Clomid1 I keep thinking this then my Amazon wish list gets bigger and bigger 😂

RoseValleyRambles · 28/01/2022 15:04

V important question ladies. Underwear. I am starting to stretch my usual ones at the top band so think I need to invest in some new ones for the duration. Do I go up one size, or do I go up two? Or do I get some kind of magical giant overbump pregnancy pants? Wisdom required.

CurryandSnuggle · 28/01/2022 15:35

@Vimto1991 ah yes you are right re: matb1, but as you said the lady above ( @Rolledthedice )would still need to tell her employer in Feb Smile. I just submitted my matb1 at the same time

CurryandSnuggle · 28/01/2022 15:36

@RoseValleyRambles I went up one size and they’re doing fine for me right now and I’m quite big already. I’d recommend getting some giant pants for post birth though in case you need a c-section (best to plan for all eventualities as we just don’t know what’s going to happen).

EarlGreywithLemon · 28/01/2022 16:00

@RoseValleyRambles one of the 6 ladies in our NCT group in my first pregnancy was having twins via planned C section. She told the NCT teacher in advance so she also covered C sections. Which was good because another one of us had an EMCS and two of us (myself included) were pretty close. I think the main point for all of us was making mother friends in the area, and for that it was great.
In my first pregnancy I had a bleed at 14 weeks and it turned out the placenta had come off a little bit in two places. It healed thankfully by 18 weeks, but I never relaxed again throughout that pregnancy. I was on high alert and paranoid literally until I had her in my arms. That's why I left all buying stuff until 30 weeks - that was a good compromise for me between being organised, and my anxiety. This time we don't need to buy much, and I'll leave it until more of the summer clothes are out.

Rolledthedice · 28/01/2022 16:04

Thanks @CurryandSnuggle and @Vimto1991 - good to be reminded about the MATB1 form! I’m planning to tell my work in the next few weeks so I don’t miss the deadline.
