I'm starting to get worried about the pain in my lower abdomen. Coughing, sneezing, laughing and sudden movements all hurt like hell. I've googled it and it seems to fit the description of round ligament pain. But it's so intense sometimes. And in general the low ebb of pain is making me waddle! I feel it radiating down my thighs too. Can anyone reassure me? I'm so fretful that something is wrong!

@MrsTwentyNine I have not felt anything but pulling and stretching, however I think I'm a bit behind you all (18 weeks today!!).

I had my appointment with my GP and she put the doppler so we could hear the HB 😍 And that has made me even more anxious about my 20 week scan. Can't wait! She also told that not everybody gets an energy boost in the second trimester and just take it easy the days I can barely function 🙄

Turniptracker · 26/01/2022 10:01

@MrsTwentyNine I found out yesterday I have an anterior placenta and I haven't really felt anything yet except one swift kick very low down in my abdomen once 😂. From what they could see baby was fine but his insistence on crushing his face into my pelvis meant they couldn't check the head or face so I have to go back for another scan (free extra scan? Yes please!)

fpeg · 26/01/2022 10:14

@PeeAche from what I've seen others say the pain radiating down can be pelvic girdle pain. I get round ligament pain but it is very brief when I stand too quickly or sneeze/cough without getting myself into a sensible position first. Very stabby pain and hurts like hell but gone within a minute. Maybe one to check with a midwife? I think referrals for NHS physios to help are slow (maybe area dependent) so a Women's health physio privately may be a good option. I've been recommended this as a website to find one in my local area (I have hyperextension of my pelvis and so am looking for prophylactic exercises to hopefully stop things getting too bad as bump gets bigger):

Also haven't felt any movement yet, 18+3 with an anterior placenta so I'm expecting at least another 4 weeks before I can recognise it!

pregnancydiaries · 26/01/2022 10:39

@PeeAche I get severe round ligament pain from coughing/sneezing/moving...breathing sometimes 😂 and it sounds very similar to what you are describing. The pain is so intense that I ended up at triage recently in a panic something was wrong. They noted that because of the HG (which I know you're on the bandwagon with), it's likely an actual pulled ligament and will just take some time to heal...maybe.

I am however not sure of the pain radiating down thigh so maybe best to check in with MW if you can.xx

PeeAche · 26/01/2022 10:48

Ah, so maybe the two pains aren't linked? FFS. I can't have PGP as well. I already "served my time" with HG.

There should be a rule: if you've had 1 bad pregnancy thing, you don't get any more.

I've had my HG, now I should be free of PGP, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, emergency c-sections and a baby who cries.

I'd stamp my feet, if I could do it without hurting myself. 😅

@pregnancydiaries the thing about the torn ligament makes perfect sense to me. I pulled all the muscles in the stomach with the vomiting. Has yours now stopped? Mine did at 18 weeks.

OP posts:
pregnancydiaries · 26/01/2022 10:58

@PeeAche I'm convinced I'm destined to suffer with every single pregnancy symptom there is, minus the glow. Hoping it means for a nice, happy baby who likes to sleep 😂

Make sure you take it easy if it is torn ligaments, bed rest and heat packs??? was what they advised in triage.

HG stopped for me at 16 weeks with the use of Ondansatron for 3 weeks, then reared it's ugly head back up this week at 19 weeks with an absolute vengeance.

Fortunately the drugs control the constant nausea but unsure why they have stopped controlling the sickness. LIFE!!!

PeeAche · 26/01/2022 11:01

You haven't had your whooping cough this week, have you? It randomly triggered my HG again for about 5 days. It was horrendous. I had my single worst vomiting episode about 24 hours after the vaccine. And then I was fine.

I'm still suffering with a bit of nausea but tbh, I'm quite content. 😅

OP posts:
pregnancydiaries · 26/01/2022 11:39

No my whooping cough isn't until next week, but oh god now I'll be prepared for the Vom 😂

Do you know what you're having yet? They say it's worse in girls but this wee one is a little boy. God help me if I ever do carry a girl...

PeeAche · 26/01/2022 12:23

No, I find out on 7th Feb, hopefully. Although my last scan was a nightmare so I'm not expecting much / am preparing to book a private anomaly scan afterwards.

My booking BMI was raised but I have lost 3 stone due to HG so my current BMI is not. However, they only go on booking BMI with no re-weighing. My 12 week scan was half hearted, over in a couple of minutes and gave me no proper pictures or measurements. They didn't even give me an updated due date from it, just told me to stick with my LMP. They wrote on my notes "unable to perform scan due to maternal BMI" and that was that.

I think if your booking BMI is high, the midwives see that before they meet you and dismiss you quite quickly. When I entered the appointment the clinic was running 30 mins late, but as they only spent 6 minutes with me, I think they saw dismissing me as a way to get back up to speed. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So, I'm expecting the same again this time. It says on my invite letter that if they can't check for abnormalities due to BMI, I won't be offered a follow up scan.

I'm not worrying about it too much though. I can go privately for most things - the NHS make their policy on BMI fairly clear but I still chose to enter pregnancy with an elevated measurement. Eat a lot of cheese and this is what happens. 😅

Anyone here under consultancy for thyroid? I had bloods done end of November and I had no response. Normally no news is good news but I thought I’d pursue the results today. Turns out my thyroid had dropped under and they forgot to tell me. Words can’t describe how upset and angry I am. It’s the reason I’m high risk and they just… forgot.
I’ve been asked to take a higher dose and my next consultancy is end of February so I told them they need to redo my bloods now to see where I’m at (in case it’s now level again naturally or severely under). I’m so worried for the baby, but the consultant said it’d do no harm (but I’ve just had two months of it being low/maybe lower!!)
I had my 20 week scan last week and all was fine with baby but something like this is just going to make me panic and stress to no end.

Prema112 · 26/01/2022 13:37

@PeeAche I definitely had thigh pain in my first pregnancy. Started around 23 weeks and it was random shooting pains for no obvious reason. Don't really know what it was. I prefer the numb thighs of this pregnancy tbh

MrsNT · 26/01/2022 14:15

@vimto1991 im consultent led due to hypothyroid. If you are on thryoxin dosage they are supposed to keep tsh level below 2.5 and increase dosage by 25%every 6 to 8 weeks. At my last blood test review the idiot gp marked it as "normal" and i was soooo angry as it was well above 2.5. Wanted to go in and shout at him but obviosuly not possible. However the other gp at surgery seemed nice and sorted the dosage out. Im supposed to have blood tests every 6 weeks to review

MrsNT · 26/01/2022 14:16

Ladies is anyone considering getting summer sleep bags for baby (1 to 1.5tog) or swaddles? I want to get swaddles but wondering if I need a sleep bag if its a summer baby?

Vimto1991 · 26/01/2022 14:17

@mrsnt I wasn’t given a blood test until 14 weeks pregnant, I just checked my notes. Then I haven’t been told the results were low until I’m now 21 weeks pregnant. I’m considering changing hospitals with how bad this has gone. I am holding onto hope with my results coming back slightly low and 20 week scan looking okay that my baby is fine.
I asked for another blood test asap and they can do Friday so… that’s me worried forever then.

Prema112 · 26/01/2022 14:31

@MrsNT Definitely getting swaddles!

pregnancydiaries · 26/01/2022 15:15

@PeeAche that is absolutely disgusting treatment from your NHS trust re scans and BMI. Regardless you are entitled to know your baby is OK and they should be making sure you get the right detail from the scans.

Glad you can go private, and god forbid, keep enjoying cheese!!

@MrsNT I'm having such a dilema with what to buy in terms of summer appropriate clothes and sleeping bags. We are in Scotland where June could mean either 3 degrees or 30 degrees so think I'll have to wait until nearer the time and put my trust in Carol with the weather 😂

unknownscot · 26/01/2022 16:01

Swaddle.

Swaddled all my nieces and nephews.

www.adenandanais.co.uk/blog/how-to-swaddle-a-baby

PeeAche · 26/01/2022 16:05

@MrsNT Nah! Gonna swaddle my titcher up in receiving blankets and kisses while I spend all of the money I've saved in sleeping bags on... a new bathroom. And dining room. Since my shower just fell through the ceiling. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@pregnancydiaries I can't pretend to feel flattered by the treatment I've received from the NHS so far, but I only have myself to blame. 🧀

I found my first appointment with the consultant upsetting because they insisted I would have to have an epidural upon arrival when I go into labour.
This is due to my increased BMI at booking, making it harder to find my spine if I need an epi later on. So it's trust policy that no elevated BMI lady be admitted onto the ward without an epidural.

Keep in mind that my BMI is no longer even raised!!!

It all got quite heated and the consultant said that delivery staff have many patients, not just me and I'm being selfish.
So, I've cancelled all future consultant-led appointments which made all the staff even angrier!
Midwife said that the trust will have to inform social services of my decision to ditch the consultant and refuse the epi, but I haven't heard anything yet. 💁🏻‍♀️ Bring it on.

Sorry everyone. I think I went off on a rant then... 😆

OP posts:
Vimto1991 · 26/01/2022 16:12

@PeeAche don’t worry… I’m feeling your frustration after today. Utter negligence from the consultants for both of us by the looks of it. 😬

PeeAche · 26/01/2022 16:41

Aw yeah, @Vimto1991 I just read your update. How bloody frustrating!!

It sounds like there is no urgency with your care whatsoever. What is the worst case outcome of low thyroid?xxx

OP posts:
MrsNT · 26/01/2022 16:46

@vimto1991 i dont even know how to get in touch with consultant. After my 1st appt with her she said to get gp to do blood tests (the ones where it was flagged normal when it wasnt) and when resukt came i asked midwife if she knew how to contact consultant but before I could I decded to reach out to surgery again and they sorted the dosage out and said i need repeat tests evety 6 weeks and dosage adj. Then a few days later i recieved letter from consultant which she had also sent to gp explaining same thing. But i dont know how to contact her myself. I forgot to ask her at my 1st appt with her.

Vimto1991 · 26/01/2022 16:50

@PeeAche
I googled it and wish I hadn’t as it talked about miscarriage, stillborn, brain development issues, small baby, etc
But it doesn’t say how LOW you need to be for that to be a risk.
The consultant said it’s slightly low but not to harm the baby but enough for me to feel it, said increase your meds and see you feb, so I’m hoping that’s positive sign. However, I did complain and I’m seeing her this Friday for same day bloods and having a discussion with her, as I want to make sure I’m getting the right medication from this point, not 7 weeks ago as some people are monitored every 8 weeks, I’m being monitored every 12 🙄
I spent two hours away from my work desk crying today at the idea of losing the baby due to negligence not caused by me, I’m going to be worried going forward as it takes week for a high dose of medication to kick in (and I could have been low the past 21 weeks!)

In your case I don’t understand why they can’t simply reweigh. Presume because it takes baby weight into consideration, but if they know the rough estimate they can surely tell you’ve lost weight. They can’t force you to have an epidural, that’s barmy. Hope you can get it sorted, having to go private because of how they’re treating you is unfair on your money!
