Anyone else struggling to get hold of lateral flow tests? Not sure what those more vulnerable to covid are meant to do once the end of March rolls around

Catconfusion · 17/03/2022 23:43

@Scoaf the midwives were amazing with my son. I got told off every time I tried to do anything. They will help you care for you baby when your husband leaves. I was told not to lift him and to ring the bell overnight. To be honest it was nice to have 1:1 time to get help with feeding. My husband also got a decent nights sleep so was nice and fresh in the morning to help. I worried about being alone but it it all worked out well

Try not to worry about baby being big. I know that must be hard. My son was 9lbs 5 at 39 weeks and his sister is predicted to be between 10 and 11 pounds. I don’t have GD but we seem to produce massive babies. A c section will avoid the delivery complications of a natural birth. As long as you’ve done everything they’ve told you to do regarding the GD I’m sure it’ll be fine. Hopefully on Tuesday you can chat to the midwife about baby’s size and how GD might be affecting things.

One think I will say about my previous section is we only had the anaesthetist up our end. She was very busy dealing with my blood pressure issues so I didn’t really have someone there to support me. My husband was a bit shell shocked. I felt I needed someone to talk me through what was happening and reassure me. If this is something you feel would help, it might be worth asking before and making sure someone else is there. I asked today about it and I think in my case they had skeleton staff because of Covid. Apparently it is back to usual now so should have more support during the op.

Honestly I wouldn’t be doing it again had it not been a lovely experience. It’s all over so quickly as well. Baby is out in about 10 minutes so you get cuddles very soon usually. It really helps take your mind off what’s happening. It sounds like you’ve made the best choice for you. I didn’t like the sound of induction either, especially with a big baby. It’s really nice to know someone having a section on the same day. Xx

Our daughter Iona Eloise was born on 12-3-22. We are both doing well after a traumatic birth resulting in EMCS and soaking up the newborn cuddles!

bubblepond · 18/03/2022 05:16

@Dyra - looks like we had our babies within the same hour!

Forgot to say, Iona was 5lbs9oz born at 37 weeks exactly (just 2 hours into being term). We had a stressful week the week before with threatened preterm labour and PROM and they induced me at 36+6 when I was an inpatient.

Catconfusion · 18/03/2022 07:50

@bubblepond congratulations. Iona is such a beautiful name. It was on our final list but we settled on something else. I hope you’re recovering well. Xx

Dyra · 18/03/2022 08:41

Congratulations @bubblepond! Small world that our labours wound up the same way and at very similar times. Iona Eloise is a beautiful name, no doubt for a beautiful baby. How're you both doing? How'd Iona do at day 5 check up?

Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl @bubblepond 💗 x

onedream · 18/03/2022 10:29

@bubblepond congratulations!

@MiracleBaby2022 that's fantastic you are finally home hope your recovery is going well

I have my pre-op on Sunday and c-section on Tuesday, woke up today with my bump down and low, I'm really struggling to do anything today even simple walk is a struggle, hope baby stays in until Tuesday..

Scoaf · 18/03/2022 18:02

@Dyra
Thankyou thats reassuring. A few peoplr have said to me the quicker you get up and about the better the recovery.
I hope you are all settled at home now.

Scoaf · 18/03/2022 18:09

@Catconfusion
Thanks for all your advice 🥰 its all very nerve wrecking not knowing what to except but youve helped to reassure me.
My GD is well under control and when i was diagnosed my bloods were only 8 when the limit is 7.8 so its only just elevated. Midwife has said everything should go back to normal once baby is out so im looking forward to some nice treats when i get home. Hubby has a list 🤗
I hope everything goes as smoothly for you second time round as it did 1st time round.
We dont know what we are having so im so excited for them to tell me. 🥰 xx

Dyra · 18/03/2022 18:29

@Scoaf You can have the drapes dropped (you honestly won't see anything other than baby) or have baby lifted above them so you can see the sex for yourself! I got to announce what Max was. Easily the best part of every C-section when you get to see your baby for the first time.

All settled back home now. Getting my daughter back from my sister's tomorrow, and we'll be true family of 4 at long last. 😬 Definitely finding it true that it's good to get up and around. I get very sore when I stand up after sitting for too long, but it's easier day by day.

Hi everyone. My darling surprise boy was born 17/3/22 by c section for breech. I am so in love and he is amazing.

Finding c section recovery difficult with the pain & being mobile. Hoping things improve soon as I know it's early days. My husband is being amazing and I'm in charge of feeding & he's in charge if everything else

I'm terns if requests on the day I didn't want music or anything and asked for the drakes ti be lowered to discover the gender. It was so obvious, his balls were huge!! I wanted skin tips skin but on the day felt uncomfortable and sick and asked not to. I felt bad but the midwife said it's common. Since then we've been cuddling & feeding & bring in love ❤️

Pac35 · 19/03/2022 18:15

*drapes to be lowered

Dyra · 19/03/2022 23:49

Awwww! Congratulations on your little boy @Pac35! Did anyone guess correctly ahead of time? Has he got a name yet? Are you at home? I hope your recovery improves by the day and your pain becomes more manageable.

Scoaf · 20/03/2022 20:52

@Dyra i think i like the idea of them telling me incase im out of it and get it wrong 🤣
Glad your home and settled and hope your reunion with your little girl went well and you are all enjoying time as a family of 4.
I cant believe its only 4 sleeps until the baby is here. It doesnt feel real at all.
@Pac35
Congratulations on your little boy.
Im sorry you've been finding it difficult, i hope you are feeling a bit better and your recovery is quick.

Catconfusion · 20/03/2022 21:29

@Pac35 massive congratulations. I hope you’re settling in at home now xx

@Scoaf not long now! We have our Covid tests tomorrow and then we isolate until the big day. It’s coming so quickly now! Xx

Dyra · 20/03/2022 21:35

@Scoaf Understandable. But definitely get a peek in for yourself first before they tell you. How was your pre-op today? Did they help ease your anxiety? Wow... Only 4 more sleeps until you get the best ever present!

Things were hard today. My house was (ok, still is....Sad) an absolute mess. I've tried doing too much, and I'm pretty sure my wound is infected to boot. It's lovely having DD back though. She's grown so much in the almost three weeks I've been away from her.

OP posts:
Scoaf · 20/03/2022 21:36

@Catconfusion... i know. Its coming round so quickly. How are you feeling? Our covid tests and my pre-op is Tuesday.
It doesn't feel real. Ive been trying to get organised. Got a food shop coming Wednesday evening and been getting the house straight. X

Catconfusion · 20/03/2022 22:09

@Scoaf definitely coming quick. I can’t wait to not be pregnant. I can hardly walk now due to the pregnancy aggravating the arthritis in my hips so looking after my toddler has been hard. My DH is off work so that’s been a help but frustrating I can’t help with the tidying and getting ready part. I hope the preop goes well. I found mine really reassuring. Xx

Scoaf · 20/03/2022 22:49

@Dyra
Pre op isnt until tuesday. Ive made a list of questions to ask.
Im wondering how they do the list of who goes in the morning and who goes in the afternoon? I guess its in order of priority.
Oh no, im sorry you've had a hard day, try to take it easy as much you can, i know thats easier said than done.
Ah is she made up to be a big sister? X

Scoaf · 20/03/2022 22:51

@Catconfusion
Oh i cant wait to not be pregnant too. My bump is so big and heavy now.
Ah sorry you are having so much pain. That must be so hard ontop of the usual pregnancy aches and pains. Just 4 sleeps now though 🤗
Thankyou, i have a list of questions to ask. X

Scoaf · 20/03/2022 22:54

For anyone who has just had their little one, were are your hospitals still following Covid rules? So limited visiting and OH not being able to stay too long? X

Dyra · 20/03/2022 23:40

@Scoaf I'm blaming sleep deprivation. I would have sworn blind I'd read Sunday, but nope. Blush Yeah, the list is organised according to medical need. As you have GDM, you should be top, or very near the top, of the list.

Covid rules are still mostly being followed. Only 1 visitor at a time between the hours of 8-8. Masks to be worn in the corridors of the ward (but you don't have to wear in/around your bed space). However, your DH should be fine to stay with you in recovery until you move up to postnatal. Mine stayed with me from 3am-6am, but only left because he was desperate for a sleep. Your trust visitor hours will determine if he can go with you and stay more on postnatal.

Looking for advice. As a first time mum I'm not sure if I'm just seeing things that aren't there but how do you know if your in the early stages of labour?

Last night I had a few contractions right across the top of my bump down to past the middle. Probabaly about 4 or 5 in a few hours. I believe I had another this morning after waking up. I've also had since last night the feeling of menstrual cramps and upset stomach. And mild back pain. They don't really seem to come and go just there pretty much all the time. I know I sounds to me like the latent phase of labour just not sure if I'm reading into it too much. It's at this stage I realise how much I still need to organise 😅

Derbee · 21/03/2022 10:47

Hope everyone is ok. I think I’m in a nesting phase, 5 days before my due date. Grin Today was B&Q for paint, IKEA for a couple of cabinets, will spend today decorating and building furniture, new car hopefully delivered tomorrow , and then going into labour…
