Hi all I hope I've done this right.

@fejkalove just catching up I haven't noticed anything on my notes although my BMI is in over weight category too which was brought up by the midwife but they haven't seemed too concerned at scans. Let us know how you get on! I've got a growth scan on Monday as seeing a consultant so maybe they'll mention it to me then as well.

@luckygreenduck I've had morning sickness again too, when I first got covid last week my taste and smell went and the sickness seemed to go too but it's back with a vengeance the last couple of days!
Also been incredibly tired which I put down to covid but I think is just pregnancy!

So lovely to see all the beautiful scans!

I'm 30 weeks today and starting to book all my pre-birth appointments: hair, manicure, pedicure, pregnancy massage, full body scrub, facial, eyebrows (and moustache!). I didn't do this with DC1, but I did with DC2 and I felt so much better about myself - would definitely recommend Smile

YummyMummyXoX · 26/02/2022 15:41

@RosettaTheGardenFairy oooh that sounds like a plan! I planned to just get gel polish on nails and toes, eyebrows possibly eyelashes and a wax to see me through couple of weeks before but who knows what il end up looking like 😂 xx

EastMidsGem · 26/02/2022 22:03

Thanks @Kittycaz I read the same about the coal tar. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about as you say. I have also been looking at playmats but they seem to vary a lot in price. I was really hoping to get a colourful one and not a boring one! We did get a cot mobile though which is a Winnie the Pooh one and it's beautiful

I have to say I have never had a manicure, pedicure, eyebrows done or a body scrub! Really want to get my hair chopped at least but going to look for a mobile hairdresser as I'd rather be at home

Kittycaz · 27/02/2022 07:45

@YummyMummyXoX your LO is beautiful the scan is so clear she looks so peaceful and chilled.

Am planning on having my hair chopped before LO is born as its stupidly long. Its over my boobs now so it will be a pain to breast feed. Gonna have it cut to a style thats easy to maintain shorter and thinner. I made mistake of having foils put in July and haven't been able to have the roots done as I heard different things about bleach and pregnancy so didn't wanna risk it but it's grown out to look like a bayalage so might just leave it now.

@EastMidsGem exactly that's what I'm struggling on. I've seen a fisher price one which seems really busy and maybe over stimulating for him. The other one I seen is in argos and is a little more chilled out but wondering if he will be bored. I have a mobile I got gifted of flying teddies so could attach that to the plain one. But I dunno. I need to get a water proof changing mat to. X

YummyMummyXoX · 27/02/2022 10:25

@Kittycaz Awh thanks
Must say your hair style you've decided on sounds lovely and will be nice, fresh and low maintenance
Didn't even think about playmats just bouncers/rockers hehe x

Sarah239 · 27/02/2022 18:13

@YummyMummyXoX that's such a lovely picture, she looks very peaceful and content (and beautiful!) 🥰

fejkalove · 27/02/2022 21:13

The 4D scans are adorable, I really wish I'd booked one!

How is everyone doing?

I have my GD testing in the morning, feeling super anxious for the results already Sad also really hoping some suitable housing comes up this week, it seems like there is absolutely nothing coming up lately and it's not helping my anxiety. I keep thinking that it'll be a month before I can move in from when I get somewhere and that's cutting it close to baby day now!

TashieWoo · 28/02/2022 07:16

Morning ladies, I haven’t been on here for a while as been so busy with work etc (and still am!) but I’ve just been catching up. I hope you’re all well. I’m 31+1 today and it’s still flying by. Only problems I’ve been having are swollen feet & ankles that started itching last night, and heartburn! Im starting to get a bit tired too and planning on stopping commuting into London twice a week at 35 weeks.

It’s lovely seeing the beautiful 4D scan pics! I had one at 29 weeks but it was with a sonographer I’d not been impressed with at a previous scan, very abrupt and made me feel stupid for asking about my baby’s well-being and not just being interested in pics. Baby girl had her arms in front of her face and whilst we got one pic, they invited me back for a rescan so I’m going this weekend when they have a different sonographer.

We start our NCT classes this evening, I’m a bit nervous but looking forward to it. Has anyone had their first class yet?

DP collected our bargain Facebook marketplace pram yesterday and even though it’s in lovely condition as was lightly used for 9 months I’m sending it to Silver Cross for a valet & service, has anyone else used that service?

Anyway, I hope you’re all okay xx

YummyMummyXoX · 28/02/2022 07:32

Thanks @Sarah239 these babies are just too cute!
Hope your test goes ok @fejkalove I'm
Fingers crossed somewhere suitable comes up soon for you to move to in good time
@TashieWoo you sound like you've been busy hopefully next weekend you are happy with your rescan Smile
I haven't booked classes this time we went last time it was a bonding experience but I felt when he got here I more needed help with breast and bottle feeding when he got here, his dad totally needed most of the info so was good in that way. He was such an easy baby napped in the day slept through the night just waking for a bottle barely crying from birth. Drank lots would go to anyone just super chilled, this one i bet gonna be a demanding diva 😂 xx

fejkalove · 28/02/2022 10:01

Thank you @YummyMummyXoX
I had my first blood test and drink at 8:35, although took 5 attempts to get the blood and I nearly fainted. Sad
They said I'll have the results today, which makes me nervous that I have it?! Although not sure how they'd know that before they took the blood.

Does anyone know if this is the norm? I read a lot of you didn't hear if you didn't have it?

robyna · 28/02/2022 11:34

@fejkalove I had mine last Monday and did pass out, I'm such a drama queen 😂 I had a growth scan on Wednesday so I just asked then and they said the results were in Monday afternoon so they are quick. They usually don't let you know unless you do have it I think but possibly cause you almost passed out they'll let you know to reassure you?

Hahaha glad I'm not the only one, it was just so hot and hadn't eaten or drank and they were struggling to find a vein so I think I panicked!

I asked when I went in for 2nd test and she said it's routine they let everyone know same day! I assume I'm just waiting for a call now, forgot to ask.

Bubbasmama2017 · 28/02/2022 14:57

Hi everyone been super busy with work and social things recently so not been able to check in as much. Sorry to hear about some positive GD results I'd be interested to hear what the diet plan is as I'm worried I've been eating everything in sight and could do with reining it in a bit! The midwife didn't seem too worried but I'm almost 30 weeks and have put on 28 lbs which was the total I wanted to gain throughout the whole pregnancy really! We've got things on every weekend til mid April now which is adding to my exhaustion, is anyone else just lying down or sleeping early all week long? I could do with some naps but never get the time

OP posts:
Kittycaz · 28/02/2022 16:06

@Bubbasmama2017 yeah I'm in bed at 9pm try to read in bed for an hour but very quickly fall asleep. Just exhausted but my LO makes sure I'm awake from 2am 😂

I've just been to breast feeding class was so helpful the other mums helped show me how to do it and I've had a practice with a fake boob and doll lol. But they've told me other things I needed to know like about tummy time, burping baby and activities for LO. The babies there were adorable and seeing a 2 week old there was just so sweet so tiny. I'm glad I went.

fejkalove · 28/02/2022 17:06

I have GD....currently sat in tears scared. Sad

YummyMummyXoX · 28/02/2022 21:18

Thinking of you @fejkalove sorry you are upset X

Bubbasmama2017 · 28/02/2022 21:31

@fejkalove sorry to hear this fingers crossed you can manage through some tweaks to your diet. Sending love x

Sarah239 · 28/02/2022 21:31

@fejkalove I'm sorry to hear that ❤️ Hopefully those with positive results can support eachother through it and share diet tips! I hope you get the support you need from antenatal team etc (and the same goes for everyone!)

@Bubbasmama2017 yes I spend most of my time horizontal when not working..!

@Kittycaz that sounds useful! I have a breastfeeding session booked for NCT but it's not til April!

@TashieWoo good luck with your NCT, be interesting to hear how it goes... ours doesn't start til later this month!

I can't believe that tomorrow I can say "my baby is full term next month"....!!

SouthwestSis · 28/02/2022 22:41

@fejkalove don't be disheartened, you abx your baby will overcome this challenge!
My first tip is oppo ice cream (you can buy it in tesco), much lower carb than other ice cream!
My 2nd tip is the gestational diabetes UK group on Facebook, loads of handy tips and advice.
My 3rd tip is eat cheese with everything!
Eating anything higher in proteins or fats with your carb slows down the absorption and helps prevent sugar spikes.
Final tip for today, try and walk/do housework/'something else active for 20 mins immediately after meals and always drink at least a pint of water at each meal. This really helps regulate your blood sugar.
Good luck, you got this!

fejkalove · 28/02/2022 22:51

Thank you so much @YummyMummyXoX @Bubbasmama2017 @Sarah239 @SouthwestSis for your kind words, it really means a lot to me.
I feel so overwhelmed and frightened right now. I don't have a lot of information on my results and worrying sick that they were the worst they could've been (rather than borderline) and what they may say tomorrow eve at the appointment. I've tried reading into it this evening but there's so much information I'm struggling to take anything in. I'm panicking about what I can have for breakfast/lunch as I haven't been shopping and I'm due my first day back in the office since lockdown tomorrow so won't have the time to make anything 'on plan'.

Sorry for my ramble, this diagnosis has hit me hard. Sad

SouthwestSis · 28/02/2022 23:11

@fejkalove
Don't panic, I remember that feeling and the gestational diabetes team will support you through this.
Good breakfast ideas are:
-lower carb/high GI cereals like shredded wheat, or porridge (but skip adding anything sweet to it)
-bacon, sausages, eggs in any format
-if you're gonna have bread make it only one slice and brown/seeded
-natural yoghurt, its ok to add seeds or a very small amount of fresh fruit
-fish if you can stomach it first thing, I loved to have smoked salmon with avocado.

TashieWoo · 01/03/2022 08:07

I’m sorry you’ve been diagnosed with GD and that you feel so down @fejkalove. Remember it can be well controlled with diet (@SouthwestSis has some excellent tips, for all of us I think!) and it is not your fault. From what I’ve heard GD specialist midwives are very kind and good at what they do, so I hope you feel reassured after your appointment this evening Flowers

The NCT class was good, we are one of 8 couples so quite a big group, and we are due around the middle of all the due dates. The people seem nice and DP and I got on well with them so hopefully we can make some new parent friends. This was an intro session where we got to know each other, talked about what we wanted to learn and had a little lesson on the stages of labour.

H0peing · 01/03/2022 20:00

@fejkalove I found out I have GD about a week ago. Very upsetting I know but, like others have said, hopefully you can manage it with diet, but even if not then they will provide you with the medication you need to help you and your baby. I've mainly been having 1 Oatibix with milk for breakfast and salads with lots of chicken / meat and cheese for lunch. I've also had leftover dinners for lunch. The main thing that seems to be helping me so far is drinking lots of water, a bit of exercise
after big meals, it possible (even walking up and down the stairs for 10 minutes seems to help) / going out for a 20-30 minute walk after lunch. I managed to enjoy a date night curry the other night by just having less rice than usual and skipping the naan bread. I was told by the Midwife for gestational diabetes to try to stick to no more than 1/4 plate of carbs such as rice or another way to measure it is about a fistful of carbs. Not much but I'm also having regular snacks like Oatcakes with cheese, guacamole / houmous with cucumber sticks, nuts. Keep us updated. We are here to help. Xx

YfenniChristie · 02/03/2022 13:43

Hey Everyone 👋🏻 How is everyone doing?

I'm feeling a bit run down this week. Haven't slept well the last week, plus we had a really busy weekend seeing in-laws so my body is giving me signs to take it easy I think.

Lots of discussion on the weekend about what our plans are for a cousin's wedding in June. Everyone is very keen for us to attend, but if the baby is on time, they'd only be 3 weeks old when the wedding takes place. I've said it's highly unlikely baby and I will attend, and DH is supportive of that but everyone is telling us to come 'cause they want to see the baby. 🤦🏼‍♀️

morphe · 02/03/2022 14:12

@fejkalove sorry to hear you have GD. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago too. I've been monitoring my glucose levels which has been really helpful in getting an idea of what is OK for me - I've actually been fine sticking to a lot of my usual meals (things like fish/chicken with veg) so it's not been as strict as a keto diet (which I've tried in the past and didn't enjoy).

I'm a bit relieved to hear that others are feeling the tiredness now - I'm napping a bit as well, but I feel frustrated with it, as I have so much to organise but we're running out of time to do it. I'm getting to bed late because it's the only time I get to do stuff with my DD1 out of the way, and then feeling shattered the next day.

I went online to order a cot bed and the one I want isn't in stock, so now I'm panicking that it won't be in stock before the baby's here! Of course I could get a different one but it's the same as we had for DD1 so I irrationally wanted them to match.

@GinnyBee sorry that you got messed around by the consultant again, how frustrating! I hope you manage to see her at your next appointment.
