Partners just tested positive for covid. I'm so scared of catching it now!
We had our gender scan booked for Saturday too. Trying not to be sad!

GrowBabyGrow · 05/01/2022 22:17

Great food for thought re when to go on mat leave. I think my work will be quite flexible about when to go although I want to have crossover with my mat cover for handover. I'm feeling a bit weird about being off for a chunk of time, I really love my job! But I also don't want to miss time with the baby and can afford to take a year.

@Olive60 oh no! Fingers crossed you won't get it. Can you reschedule the scan for post isolation?

PeeAche · 05/01/2022 22:18

Ladies, I am working up until 38 weeks... but I've booked my last week at work as annual leave! 😈

Totally legal! Check it out.

Not too early to be buying things. I already have a bunch of stuff. I'm buying almost everything second hand so when I see it, I don't wait! Snap it up!

fpeg · 05/01/2022 22:38

As @PeeAche says you can book your final weeks off as holiday. Only caveat is that the moment you give birth your holiday stops and you legally start Mat leave. Your holiday entitlement for days left remain so you can take them when you come back 😊

fpeg · 05/01/2022 22:40

@Rolledthedice I'm enrolling a hypnobirthing course as it is the one thing that my friends with kids have unanimously recommended. It's not all about a natural birth for me but looking to feel that I can cope with any twists and turns that labour throws at me as I'm sure it won't go to whatever plan I'd like there to be 😂

Annabell1 · 05/01/2022 23:00

@AlHCTPS Thanks a lot. It's really good to hear some other opinions as most of my friends believe that anything under 12 months is a bit of a no go. I also have 6 months full pay and then statutory. So I might be OK to stay home for a year.
Let's see how things go.
I'm also a bit sad about leaving my job for such a long time, especially because they only keep your exact position open for 6 months.

Also good to hear when everyone is thinking about starting mat leave. I guess I was a bit overambitious thinking I could work until the baby arrives. 😂

@MrsNT Brett Larkin is a good yoga teacher. She has some prenatal yoga videos on YouTube as well.

Reg a private doula or midwife, does anyone know how many people can be there with you during the delivery? Is it one person only because of Covid?

Vimto1991 · 05/01/2022 23:09

Seeing everyone with Mat pay makes me so sad. My company offer nothing at all :( on SMP from the get go. Luckily managed to save a bit of money to still take a year off but if we have a second child I’d be looking to change to a job that offers me May pay.

needarainbow · 06/01/2022 00:09

@Imhereforthecake due date pals! The 19th June seems ages away to me 😂

Has anyone else felt like their bump is changing between being soft and hard? The past 2 days my stomach was like a rock and then today its like its gone back to a squishy food belly 😂

All your ladies are so organised with all your research and planning! I still have to build the actual room for this baby as it currently has no walls 😂

fpeg · 06/01/2022 07:13

@needarainbow yes! Definitely goes between solid and jelly 😂

needarainbow · 06/01/2022 07:17

@fpeg thank goodness its not just me then 😂

RoseValleyRambles · 06/01/2022 08:11

Managed a night of no cramping. V relieved. Although my shoulder is not enjoying side sleeping ... I might need to explore other pregnancy pillows.

PurpleMoon12 · 06/01/2022 08:26

@PeeAche

Has anyone else got really severe round ligament pain? It hurts to cough... tricky when one has Covid!!
@PeeAche I have it quite bad, and mentioned it to my midwife. I didn't really expect anything to come from mentioning it, but she referred me to the physio before it gets any worse (they are classed as antenatal appointments so you can take these as paid time off work). Might be worth asking for a referral?
hellointhere · 06/01/2022 08:34

There's so much great advice on reusable nappies here so thank you for sharing.

I am 15 weeks and I think I am experiencing the bubbles feeling of movements! But not 100% convinced.

Is anyone else considering a home birth?

DaimDillyDoo · 06/01/2022 09:46

Oh god - I'm moving house today and today of all days HG has reared back up!!

Has anyone else found its reared up randomly? I've been fine for weeks but I've been sick 5 times already this morning. Haven't even been able to keep my meds down!

Today of all days Sad

This happened to me. I was suffering up until Christmas Day. I was fine until yesterday when I had to run to the bathroom to be sick. I feel nauseous this morning for the first time since Christmas Day too - I thought I was past this. I’m 18 weeks today.
Roxystar23 · 06/01/2022 10:13

Good Luck with the house move too btw!

PeeAche · 06/01/2022 11:35

@hellointhere I desperately wanted a home birth as I am foolishly rather afraid of hospitals. There's no deep and meaningful reason for my fear of them. I just don't like being in a stark, clinical environment, surrounded by sickness and death.

I'd definitely rather roll up the living room rug and bear down at home.

However, I'm a first timer and I had a raised BMI at booking (thanks to HG I now have an ordinary BMI but it's too late. I'm all aboard the shared care train now) AND I live a full hour of twisty, windy country lanes from my nearest hospital.

So, I'm just going to go in and (mostly) do as I'm told. I have a feeling that I won't care where I am on the day. As long as the baby is safe!

Due to my booking BMI I'm also ineligible for the MLU and birthing pools. I've also been told I will have to have an epidural as soon as I arrive.

I have accepted points 1 and 2 but told them that if they try to give me an epi upon arrival that I will be going home, rolling up the living room rug and making do with a YouTube tutorial.

My trust have the third highest "intervention" rate in the country. Way more C-sections than is "normal" and I'm convinced it's because they are dishing out the early epidurals.

PeeAche · 06/01/2022 11:36

Hey @DaimDillyDoo it's the stress. It happens to me too. Tiredness also makes it happen. Don't go hard on yourself. Congratulations on your new home. Good luck with the move!xxx

ALHCTPS · 06/01/2022 11:46

@PeeAche listen to their advice, but you do still have autonomy. They can advise, but your wishes are important too. For example, I’m not averse to an induction, per se, but I’m not about to agree to book one in for my due date at my 12 week appointment just because I’m 42 and have no other risk factors whatsoever. There is a tendency to railroad but you don’t have to agree. At 30 weeks, say, it’s worth asking again about giving birth in the midwife-led unit.

Prema112 · 06/01/2022 11:51

Hi everyone, I'm finding it tricky to keep up with the feed it's going so fast! But just wanted to say I'm so glad we are all in the second trimester together and the chance of loss is so small for us all now.

@rathernotshare so glad the op went well and baby is ok! @PeeAche great to hear your bleeding has stopped. I will definitely not be having a home birth (if I can help it) but hoping for the birth centre this time, last time I wasn't allowed as had meconium in the waters so needed close monitoring. I can't wait for gas and air I love it.

Sorry to hear of everyone who has covid, so relieved that omicron seems to be mild in general. wishing everyone quick recoveries.
@DaimDillyDoo that sucks you're vomiting again, especially as you move!! Hope it stops and the move goes well.

@needarainbow I was just saying this morning to my husband 'feel how hard my tummy is' and his response was 'it wasn't like that yesterday' Shock

Anyone else sneeze (and sometimes just walk!) and feel like things are gonna come shooting out...?! Maybe I need to do more pelvis floor exercise Confused

PeeAche · 06/01/2022 11:59

I think the advice is poorly placed, in my case. I have 1 risk factor which is a high bmi at booking. Because of this, their flow chart says "epidural as soon as admitted into hospital" which could be up to 22 hours before baby appears.

The flow chart is on the assumption that I'm so fat that it'll take them ages to find my spine and they can't risk that in the final hour, if I then do have to go down for surgery. I just don't agree. I think it's a one-size-fits-all solution.

I think that an epidural upon arrival is increasing my chances of complications and intervention, not reducing them!

I have, however, agreed to meet with an anaesthetist at 28 weeks. (But only so that they can agree with me that my spine isn't hidden under 6ft of flab. 😂)

CurryandSnuggle · 06/01/2022 12:13

Gosh, thread 7! I have so much to catch up on 😂

I don’t know when I’m supposed to get MATB1, going to ask at hospital when I go for 20 week scan as I don’t see my midwife until mid-March and my MATB1 is due in by mid-Feb!

CurryandSnuggle · 06/01/2022 12:14

Anyone else doing shared parental leave? DH taking first 4 months off with me which i’m happy about Smile

Prema112 · 06/01/2022 12:21

@CurryandSnuggle Oo, I'd like to do that! Dunno how it works though, I only qualify for the lowest mat pay as I got pregnant after 1 week of this job...

@PeeAche seems ridiculous glad you're fighting it!

Clueless22 · 06/01/2022 12:54

Hi all, did anyone have a blood screen done at 16 weeks for downs? Just wondering how long it took for your results to come through from the NHS?
