@RoseValleyRambles I love hot baths as we live in a cold Victorian terrace! So I did a lot of googling on this topic, and there was a study in last couple years that basically said not to worry unless you are in a hot tub or high temp bath longer than 20mins. Even then, there was evidence to suggest that hot baths are helpful to pregnant women as they soothe and relax muscles. I’ll see if I can find the link later. I still have fairly hot baths but don’t stay in them too long. :)

I think like a lot of advice (e.g drinking alcohol) there is a blanket “don’t do this ever” statement as it’s easier than trusting women to use their common sense. Plus varies country to country, no wonder we are always unsure!

Prema112 · 10/01/2022 13:17

@PlodandPod @MrsNT Our sleepyhead was a lifesaver, my son wouldn't sleep anywhere else, but every baby is different so you may not need it. I'm happy I didn't get rid of ours though

JAR1981 · 10/01/2022 13:26

I would love a bath! Has anyone else like me been too scared to go in? I’m worried my cervix will fail or something. Wish I could get over it!

RoseValleyRambles · 10/01/2022 13:58

Thanks @rolledthedice ! That'd be great. I am of the 'soak for an hour or two' persuasion, so may need to stick to cooler, but it'd be great to see what the science says.

GrowBabyGrow · 10/01/2022 14:21

I've been thinking about sleepyheads/ purflo baby nests too but got a bit scared by the advice on the Lullaby Trust. It is quite old though (2018) and I couldn't see any more recent advice. I have a friend selling an old purflo baby nest for a tenner which feels like a good price. Has anyone seen anything from since 2018 about whether they are ok?

InvisibleDragon · 10/01/2022 15:24

Yikes, my MiL has dug out some of the baby clothes my DH and his siblings wore (25+ years ago) and is keen for us to use them for our baby. I think I'm going to choose a couple of things that are nice clean that we can take back to the UK with us and suggest they keep hold of the rest for when we visit. Feeling a bit mean cos they are being kind and excited about the baby, but most of this stuff is dated and (literally) moth-eaten. Hmm

needarainbow · 10/01/2022 15:47

I am loving following all your recommendations and advise ladies! You're all very organised. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this weird symptom or if it's not even pregnancy related? This morning I've gotten ready for work and as I was leaving noticed that one of my cheeks is bright red. It's now spread to both and they're both very red and hot to touch! One of the girls at work had even commented on it by the end or the day 🤷‍♀️

InvisibleDragon · 10/01/2022 16:25

@needarainbow - maybe speak to your midwife about that? I think hot flushes and red cheeks can be normal in pregnancy, but it could also be slapped cheek syndrome which might need medical monitoring:

needarainbow · 10/01/2022 16:31

@InvisibleDragon Thanks! I called the midwife because I've now got a weird taste in my throat when I swallow as well and they've referred me to the GP so will need to try and get an appt with them 🤞 Hopefully it's just hormonal!

rathernotshare · 10/01/2022 16:41

@needarainbow funnily enough I noticed one of my cheeks being really red today, wasn't sure if I'd laid on it funny!

HWka · 10/01/2022 16:44

Wow not been on for ages and there’s so much to catch up on!!
Is anyone else not really feeling anything? I’m 17+5 days and thought I felt a bubble last week but think it could me gas/wishful thinking! It’s my first so not sure if I would feel anything yet but can’t help but worry. Not got a date for my 20 week scan but just want to know everything is alright in there!!

needarainbow · 10/01/2022 16:56

@rathernotshare thats what I assumed as well so I just went on with my day but then noticed it was still there by lunch but had spread! Very strange. Have spent 25 on hold to gps

MrsNT · 10/01/2022 17:11

@needarainbow i think weird taste in mouth during preg might be linked to iron or zinc levels. Cant remember which one now. Read something about if its low then u get weird taste

@invisibledragon sounds like my MIL! Still holding onto my other half pram which is 30 years old and intends to use it. Dp politely declined us wanting it

Rachx2021 · 10/01/2022 19:26

Hi everyone!

I've been reading this thread for a while and thought it was time to join in - hope that's ok!

I'm 17 weeks with my little rainbow after a traumatic twin missed miscarriage last April. My anxiety seems to work in bizarre 4 week chunks! I saw my midwife on Thursday and she let me listen to the heartbeat - she found it straight away and said baby is very wriggly. That put my mind to rest for about 2 days and the neuroticism is back again now...

TMI for a first post but please tell me lots of discharge around this time is normal? I've got nothing to compare it too and have contacted myself something is wrong again.

Thank you xxx

Rolledthedice · 10/01/2022 19:49

Welcome @Rachx2021 and congrats on your rainbow baby. So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Flowers

Please don’t worry about the extra discharge - I have definitely noticed a lot more and apparently it’s a normal symptom of pregnancy. You only need to keep an eye out for funny smelling or green discharge. I’m sure your little one is very happy wriggling away in there. :)

Rolledthedice · 10/01/2022 20:07

@RoseValleyRambles I found the study about heat and baths. It was by the University of Sydney

PleaseSendNoodles · 10/01/2022 21:06

Thanks for sharing @Rolledthedice - that’s made my day!

PleaseSendNoodles · 10/01/2022 21:09

I’m 17+2 and still dog tired. I thought we were meant to get a burst of energy now?? Anyone else?

Also - I know I should be grateful for never being sick but I didn’t expect the other symptoms I’ve had. (Sorry - TMI) almost constant UTIs and constipation are miserable!

As an aside - im starting to get really excited for babe’s arrival in June now.

Clueless22 · 10/01/2022 21:42

@Rachx2021 welcome to the group 😀
Re discharge, mine has increased in the last few weeks (18w 2d) and belive it's totally normal although like you I did worry at first and I manged to convince myself the amniotic sack had broke! ... goog old Google x

Clueless22 · 10/01/2022 21:42

'good'

unknownscot · 10/01/2022 22:14

@PleaseSendNoodles can I ask what your UTI symptoms are? I think I may have one

Had a look out of curiosity as I work in medical analysis. I personally still would be wary.
Yes the findings are positive but the sample is so small to draw statistically significant conclusions - only 347 women.

When I analyse data I'd want a sample of 50,000+ people.. I'd struggle to sell analysis to clients with lesser number of people.

But I totally get that doing pregnancy research is the hardest thing and getting a big sample is almost impossible - try finding pregnant women who are happy to be guinea pigs Grin

I still have my barbies from when i was little 🤣 at my mums house. If and when i have a girl ill take them. Meanwhile i took 3 of my old teddies from my mum which were still in mint condition since i never played with them .

Sinus update ..got really awful for me today to the point it was hurtful to touch. Took to paracetamols, lots of steam inhalation, heat pads over face to reduce it. Not in forhead anymore but head still hurts when i bend. Spoke to gp and he said if it last till 10 days will get antibiotics
