I'm dreading the vaccinations. Is it recommended to give calpol after them?

Curlymam88 · 09/02/2022 17:53

@Theawkwardblonde they advised me to take calpol to the appointment with me so she could have the first dose right away. I asked why and they said the vaccines one of them is a live vaccine which can cause their temperature to rise. They advised to continue with the calpol x2 more after appointment.

Hey all, don't know where the time's going! Dexter will be two months tomorrow, and definitely doesn't feel like a newborn anymore. He had his 8 week check and jabs on Tuesday which were horrible, he screamed the place down and ever since randomly screams out like he's having a flash back! I gave him calpol as advised and glad I did because after the three doses I ended up having to give him another one the following morning as he woke up with a temp. All ok now though and he's turning into such a lovely smiley boy, constantly chatting and wriggling, such a personality coming through already! Lovely to hear how the rest of you are getting on and seeing the pics of your growing bubbas, Dexter was 13lbs 8oz a couple of weeks ago - he's such a chunk!!

@burtle4 same here with Leola she had to have an extra dose as she was slightly hot. Dexter is so cute, such a lovely smile. Glad he's doing well.

Random question
Who gets their baby dressed everyday in normal clothes?
Or do you dress them in babygrows?

I'm a bit of a baby grow person as love babies in baby grows

Up to this point Jesse has been living in them
But I have lots of proper clothes people have brought him and if he doesn't wear them soon they will be no good

Theawkwardblonde · 11/02/2022 06:19

@tashx I love the baby grows too. I've started putting S in outfits if going to visit people, just so they can see her in what they bought her. In the house though I love the baby grows. Plus they're so much easier to put on than squeezing a wriggling baby into a dress or top!

jadey1991 · 11/02/2022 07:35

@tashx I'm a baby grow lover too. But I do however get Josiah dressed in normal clothes.. it's actually really nice seeing little one in different clothes.

I love using baby grows for as long as I can get away with it! They're so easy to dress them in and change nappies in and they look so cute in them! I do use clothes sometimes but only because we have them and it's usually only as theawkwardblonde says, if we are going to see people!
Question on sleep... Dexter seems to have got into the habit of having one long stretch of sleep when he first goes down at night (4 hours) and after that it gets shorter throughout the night. Last night he went down at 7.15 so was awake at 11.15pm and then slept midnight until 2.45am but then woke every hour after that! Mostly grunting and farting like it was due to wind but it seems to happen every night, the sleep just gets worse as the night goes on! Anyone else?x

2020mission · 11/02/2022 10:44

@tashx I mostly go with baby grows and occasionally a top and leggings... will do that for has vaccinations too as it will be easier to just take his leggings off. He's too little for any real clothes yet 😅 he's in newborn sizes still! I will dress him in more normal clothes as he grows and needs changed less. I do wonder why anyone puts little jeans on a baby though? I see friends post photos of their babies on Facebook in them. Jeans are really quite uncomfortable so it would seem strange to put them in something that isn't stretchy when they are so small surely? I'm one of those people that gets out of jeans into comfortable trousers as soon as I get home whenever I wear them.

Does anyone's LO sleep for long stretches during the night without feeds? Matthew has been sleeping from midnight until 7am and I have to fight to wake him at 4am for a feed. Twice he's refused the breast at 4am so he's gone 7 hours between feeds at 6 weeks 😬 not a great pattern when the HV isn't happy with his weight gain.

jadey1991 · 11/02/2022 11:50

@burtle4 Josiah is the other way round. During the day he will sleep max 1hour with a lot of grunting and farting etc. and night time he sleeps from 09:30pm till 07:00am(waking up in between for a feed and nappy change).. it's so hard because during the day I have things to do.

jadey1991 · 11/02/2022 11:52

@2020mission yes Josiah can go without a feed during the night too. But that's happened a few times. I wouldn't say that's anything to worry about as I'm not worried. Matthew likes his sleep lol

Seth is now just over 11lbs. We have his six week check with the health visitor next week so will get a more accurate weight then. He is just the most amazing thing to have happened to me. He is now 6.5 weeks old and started smiling occasionally and making cooey happy noises.

@burtle4 S is exactly the same. Will have a big feed about 8pm then sleep till 2.30/3ish. He will feed and go back for a good sleep for maybe a hour then he just whinges and grunts and fidgets until his next feed. He appears to be still asleep it seems but of course I am not! I’m not sure how to stop it or why he does it and generally means he wakes sooner for his next feed.

We actually had a really good night last night, S slept from 9pm till 2.30am, then till 6am and is currently still asleep in the next to me so I feel like I’ve had a good lie in!

burtle4 · 12/02/2022 10:07

@Decadesbcun good to know I'm not the only one! Although that sounds like you had a great night last night, mine was awful! He barely slept through the day and cluster fed throughout the evening and finally went to sleep at midnight! I thought because he hadn't had much sleep through the day that he would have at least done a good first stretch but he woke up after 2 hours! He then wouldn't settle again until I brought him into bed with me and then he spent the rest of the night waking every hour or two, really unsettled. Seems unhappy this morning too so don't know what's going on but I'm knackered!

jadey1991 · 12/02/2022 10:19

Question to everyone.... I've noticed that Josiah doesn't like it when I'm not next to him when he sleeps. He wakes up. Then when I lay with him again he falls back to sleep straight away.

Same @jadey1991 if I pop to the loo during the night for a quick pee when he's sound asleep I come back to find him awake and whining! He knows
