17 Weeks Low Amniotic Fluid

Hi feel really broken today just wanted to see if anyone been in similar position.

Was gifted a private gender scan by my friends once I told them of my pregnancy which was today.

But at the scan the sonographer confirmed heart beat but also confirmed very low amniotic fluid. Off the record he told me the risks of such low amniotic fluid but said I need to contact midwife asap. When I told midwife she was very concerned and has arranged for me to see fetal medicine consultant on Tuesday but my anxiety has gone through the roof. Her advice was to stay hydrated and rest until than but I'm in shock can't stop crying and fearing the worst. If anyone can share any information on this it will be much appreciated. Thank you

Did they give you a report which had the type of measurement they took and what the value actually was?
I had the opposite problem (too much fluid) and I know Dr Google isn’t always helpful but it really was in this situation!

I also had oligohydramniosis op. And found out exactly the same way you did, at a private scan. Keep drinking water. Can you feel any leaking? Flowers fetal, medicine were lovely, we went to birmingham.

At the start of the pregnancy I had low amniotic fluid (complete opposite now!) but the midwifes told me drink as much water as I could as it would slowly get to the baby. I think I was drinking just over 2ltrs a day!

Best of luck for Tuesday, I hope it all goes well x

I'm really sorry OP, I don't want to upset you. Our baby was very poorly. The lack of fluid meant he wasn't swallowing and had issues with his stomach. I did feel leaking though. He didn't survive my pregnancy and was born at 24 weeks. I have heard of other babies surviving and thriving though. I wasn't offered any treatment, just to keep drinking at least 8 big glasses of water a day, and then weekly scans to see if my fluid increased. My baby was due in May and was born in January. Just remember there is always hope. I'm so sorry you're going through this Flowers

Thank you for replying I am so sorry for your loss. I feel so broken Tuesday feels so far away at the moment. In my heart I could see it on the sonogrpahers face I know it's not good news but I'm trying to hold on for hope if that makes sense.

Thank you I had a scan on 1st December they said my fluid level was normal so it's crazy how 16 days later now it's dropped so low I haven't had any leaking or anything that I know off just feel heart broken.

Would you keep me posted on your appointment? Things really can change so quickly, and you never kmow, before your scan your fluid might have been lower and could be increasing Flowers

Just wondered if anyone was around the anxiety has kicked into overdrive I am such a emotional mess at the moment. The appointment is tomorrow at midday I'm so scared of what they will say I actually am dreading it. I called to ask of my dh will be allowed but they said no unless after the scan it's at the discretion of the fetal medicine consultant. We have both have done covid tests just In case as well. Feel like this his been the longest four days of my life but now I am also dreading tomorrow. I been feeling the baby move so much the last few days I'm not sure if I'm imagining. I know this is a pointless post but I'm just sitting up in bed and I don't know who else to turn too. Dh is trying to settle ds into bed.

@Newdreams I just wanted to say I’m so sorry your going through such a scary time. I hope everything goes well for you I really do.

Mumsnet can definitely be a wonderful place to turn . Although I can’t offer any advice, I want to offer my support. I hope your as ok as you can be, the scan will be here before you know it. X

Bellesjp · 20/12/2021 22:20

@Newdreams so sorry you're going through a crap couple of days, know what it's like all too well waiting for that scan, the hours feel like days!

I can't offer advice on your scenario but just wanted to say that you will be in the best place tomorrow with fetal medicine, sometimes the sonographers at private 'window to the womb' type clinics are not as medically trained and can cause more panic than good with not explaining things properly. I'm not saying that they're incorrect but please wait until your appointment tomorrow to find out what's going on. Keep drinking water and try to stay distracted, know that's easier said than done sometimes but panicking will not help or change anything Thanks

Will be thinking of you tomorrow x

ResentfulAF · 20/12/2021 22:43

Sometimes you can just catch your fluid at a low point, and then maybe you rehydrate, or baby does a pee and the reading goes back up.
It happened to me - previously normal fluid levels, then really very low reading, panic stations, sent to foetal medicine, fluid level improved. Happened again a few weeks later. Baby born absolutely healthy.
Best of luck tomorrow xx

stuckinarut21 · 20/12/2021 22:50

All the best tomorrow op will be thinking of you and sending love Thanks

Can you watch something on Netflix to distract you? I listen to this meditation to
help me fall asleep.

How old is your ds? Keep posting if you want to x

MinnieJackson · 21/12/2021 13:29

Are you ok @Newdreams? Been thinking about you x

Newdreams · 21/12/2021 16:16

Sorry for the late reply...

It was all a big mess to the I was booked for a booking appointment with fetal medicine even though midwife said she had referred me because of the low fluid etc there was an admin error somewhere along the lines however the consultant I saw was lovely even though she couldn't scan me today she had referred me to triage so they could do a quick scan check on baby and heart beat which was all thank fully ok. Fluid levels still very low triage dr said baby taking up a lot of the space and fluid very low. They did a internal swab said no signs my waters are leaking so all indications are pointing to something with the baby. They have arranged a fetal medicine scan for me next Wednesday now so I'm actually in same position I have been all week. I feel exhausted and broken by the unknown if that even makes sense. Next Wednesday seems a lifetime away atm.

So sorry to read it hasn't helped your mental state @Newdreams my second pregnancy had low fluids but it was later on gestation wise and as time ticked on we realised it seemed to vary as I had scans weekly. Hopefully you will be fine. Thinking of you and please be kind to yourself x
