Just found out we are pregnant after 13 months of trying - based on last period will be due august 19th.

Any others with similar time like to join to support one another?

Reading the comments about weight - I was a bit taken aback at my booking in appt as the midwife made me feel really bad about being overweight. I’ve gained just under two stone since the pandemic started (which I hate probably more than anyone!) due to lack of exercise, lack of commuting (daily steps/activity around the office) and being so close to the fridge 😂. My bmi is high (35 - obese) but I’m a size 14 in clothes, which I don’t consider obese. I hate using bmi as I’m short with big boobs (G normally - now, god knows what!). I’ve actually lost 3-4lbs so far due to nausea/lack of booze.

Anyway, the midwife put me on prescriptions for additional folic acid, vitamin d, told me to start taking daily aspirin from 12 weeks and wants me to speak to a dietician! I just felt it was A LOT. Has anyone else experienced this? This is my first pregnancy and I was a bit shocked at how out of shape I’m considered to be in pregnancy.

Cakecakecheese · 20/01/2022 10:04

@coalcraft Thanks. Yep I will get to see a consultant and hopefully they will know more about IVF pregnancies!

@netflixandnochill BMI is still a big thing unfortunately despite some medical professionals saying it's not particularly helpful.

Beth262 · 20/01/2022 10:34

Gosh has anyone got a nice midwife? From everyone's experiences so far it doesn't sound like it!

Mine spent 15 minutes telling me about how her step daughter is teaching a new dance fit class. I'm starting to wonder now if she was hinting for me to go after the last few comments about weight and bmi😂

PopGoesBang · 20/01/2022 10:34

@netflixandnochill Me! My bmi is higher than yours (size16/18). I fully expected to find it an issue. I have had to have additional folic acid, and in my booking in apt was told I'd have additional scans for sizing as it can sometimes be harder to be sure. Tbh I don't mind seeing baby more!
I too will have a call from the 'weight management' midwife. But apparently she is lovely.
Oh and if the hypermesis continues I will have to do blood thinner injections from 28 weeks because of bmi, age and the sickness. But it has all been put across in a lovely way, I said to DP I expected age and weight to be made far more of.

You're right it is a lot, and the whole BMI thing makes it hard, when just being a few inches taller and it could be a different story.
It's just boxes they have to tick. Horrible they made you feel so bad about it

SNA22 · 20/01/2022 10:54

How long did it take to get your 12 week scan appointment? Had my 1st midwife appointment last week and waiting to hear about scan!

Cakecakecheese · 20/01/2022 10:59

@SNA22 it varies massively depending where you are. I got my scan appointment letter through 3 weeks before I received a booking appointment letter.

@Beth262 it does sound like she was touting for her stepdaughter business!

CoalCraft · 20/01/2022 11:12

@Beth262 I would put my midwife squarely in the "fine" category. I had her last time too and she was perfectly pleasant but somehow a bit too breezy and laid-back. I often felt like I could have gone into an appointment with my head on back to front and she'd have said "oh, it's fine, all normal".

The one who actually delivered DD a d took care of me afterwards was just wonderful though.

BluePear · 20/01/2022 11:17

The midwife I met seemed lovely. I met her at the booking scan 8+5. I didn't get the scan appointment through until 10w+4.

Midwife's used to be within the doctors surgery when I had my last 2 children. But now they are divided into different units outside of any surgery. Which so far seems pretty good.

Roll on 12week scan I am seriously impatient now! It's next week Wednesday

Beth262 · 20/01/2022 11:22

@SNA22 In exactly the same boat as you. Booking apt last week and still waiting to hear for my 12 week scan. Starting to get slightly concerned as I'm already 11+2 so know I have a very narrow window to get the Edwards & Patau tests done before 14 weeks. A friend of mine actually missed out because they couldn't get her in until 14+3. And that was only last week 😬

There was the ultrasound department number in my Mat pack, have you got a number to chase?

SNA22 · 20/01/2022 11:33

@Beth262 I hope we both get them soon! It seems unfair for you to miss out on testing because of it! I’m 9+2 currently, but i didn’t get to keep my notes either because I have an auto immune so they sent them off to be checked over? Feeling very lost with this being my first pregnancy and having no idea what’s supposed to happen! Also had a not so nice midwife who talked about immigrants and religious beliefs Confused

netflixandnochill · 20/01/2022 12:34

Thanks @Cakecakecheese & @PopGoesBang it’s reassuring to feel less alone and you’re right, more scans mean more chances to see what’s going on!

I went straight from my private scan to my booking in appt and at the booking in the midwife warned me that ultrasounds might be difficult due to my weight! The sonographer found everything she needed to in about twenty five seconds. I think I could be being oversensitive too as I’m incredibly hormonal and emotional (poor dh) but if she had been nice or friendly about it, perhaps I would have taken it better.

@SNA22 I think every geographical area is different - hoping you get one in the post soon!

theotherfossilsister · 20/01/2022 12:39

hello, think I was here before and dropped off as my anxiety was too high. I'm autistic and have ocd. Coming back though as I thought even if things to go wrong it will be lovely to have support here. Have also just rejoined another thread

Currently 9w2 with an IVF baby after three years. My anxiety is horrible and I have Covid too now so that's terrifying with no outside or work to distract me.

Just called the midwifery team and the woman was awful. Refused to give me any reassurance and seemed to think the Covid is my fault despite being x 3 jabbed and my partner bringing it home from work. I called for reassurance but also as I know some pregnant people are prescribed blood thinners with Covid and I thought I might need some as I have AR antibodies. She really upset me.

It seems on here that all midwives are horrible which is absolutely not what I imagined.

In good things, I'm doing some writing, looking at my beautiful cat (my old cat died in November and I have finally fallen in love with you his predecessor) and we just ordered bross bagels on deliveroo.

PopGoesBang · 20/01/2022 12:50

@netflixandnochill when I had an early scan at 7+2 everything was found and easily too - think some medical professionals just get a bee in their bonnet about things.

I was a lot smaller with DD and so far nothing has been different 🤷🏼‍♀️

@theotherfossilsister I got covid days after finding out I was pregnant, and apart from the slight cough making my sickness a bit more I was fine.
I think I've seen some other ladies on her have had it too. From what I can see it would be the 3rd trimester that they could be more concerned about if you had it - but again have seen lots who have been fine too.
Rest up, and hope you feel better soon.

beckybloomwood11 · 20/01/2022 12:51

I'm really sorry to hear people have had bad experiences with their midwives. Mine was lovely, but she's actually leaving so I'll have another one by my 16 week appointment. Hope she's lovely too - I'm a higher BMI as well and my first midwife was really reassuring at my booking in appt. it's such a shame to hear others have been made to feel rubbish!

Have any of you who were having headaches as a symptom had them stop yet? If so, how many weeks were you? This is definitely the worst symptom for me!

CoalCraft · 20/01/2022 13:08

@theotherfossilsister Sorry you had a bad experience with a midwife. They are like any group of people really - some bad, some amazing, most somewhere on the middle. I have come across the full range

@netflixandnochillim 5’1 and 11 stone 12. My bmi I’m sure she said is 30. In size 14, and I’m 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Just means they have to take extra care so like a diabetic test or extra scans I wouldn’t worry x
Isonthecase · 20/01/2022 15:37

I think most midwives are pretty nice, obviously some aren't but that's the same everywhere. But I'm saying that as someone who probably wouldn't get told off for weight or age!

Nik84 · 20/01/2022 16:24

I was fully expecting my weight to be mentioned, my bmi is 29.4 but not a thing was said 🤷🏼‍♀️ Had my booking appointment today and midwife seemed nice enough.

Beth262 · 20/01/2022 19:40

@beckybloomwood11 I had headaches until about 10 weeks.

beckybloomwood11 · 20/01/2022 22:27

@Beth262 I'm 10 weeks this week so fingers crossed they go soon!

KitsuneDream · 21/01/2022 07:41

Hello all,

I'm new here and hoping I can join the chat. I'm due August 24, 2022. How's everyone doing?

I've had severe morning sickness since week 4 and now at week 9, it's been getting worse. I've been off work for more than a month since it's been really hard to cope lately.

Has anyone had a scan yet? Will be having mine 2nd week of February! Can't wait to see the baby! Smile

Welcome!

I've had one at 7 weeks, and having another this Sunday - will be 9 weeks.
Trying to settle my nerves a little!

firsttimemumca · 21/01/2022 12:05

@KitsuneDream

Sorry to hear you've have bad sickness!

To be honest, i feel awful saying this as so many have struggled with symptoms but i've barely had any. At 4/5 weeks I had light nausea and acid reflux but that's it really!

We have our 12 week scan same day as you! Hope it all goes well ☺️ Do you feel time is moving slowly too?

We had an early scan in Dec as we were in a position where we had to tell family early and wanted to be sure but haven't had one since!

hope everyone is doing okay ♥️ xx

KCat82 · 21/01/2022 12:15

Hi all. Hope everyone's well. I have my booking in appt this afternoon. Am quite nervous as couldn't sleep last night and read of peoples negative experiences with the midwife and i'm in the high BMI category too. Am trying to go with the attitude that I know I'm overweight so having it pointed out only reaffirms what I already know.
Tomorrow I have a private scan when I'll be 9+3 based on fist early scan.
@KitsuneDream welcome!!!!
