Aaarrrgghhh. So- I've had a letter through for a 12 week scan appointment and it's on 14 jan. There is another letter contained in it for an appointment with a dr on 19 Jan. Clinic just says C-ADPDL Preterm labour. Same hospital. What's this for?!

Also it says generically to bring a urine sample unless your appointment is for a scan or GTT appointment. So does that mean I need to take one for this second appointment? What's GTT?
And how? In a glass or what?
The letter has generically on it to attend alone. But the covid info sheet within the pack says pregnant people can bring someone from the same household. 🤔🤣 So which is it? 🤷‍♀️
Also- did you always have to pay for scan photos? That's outrageous. 🤣

2020mission · 24/12/2021 10:45

@paintfairy GTT should be referring to a Glucose Tolerance Test? I know what you mean with vague appointment letters, all of mines lately have said 'Obstetrics' and never what specifically it's for!

2020mission · 24/12/2021 10:51

@paintfairy when I go to all hospital appointments they always hand me a container and ask for a urine sample as standard unless it's a scan. At my community midwife appointments they had a box full of empty sample containers so you could take a few away with you and you can then fill it first thing in the morning at home and bring it with you to appointments... apparently it's better to provide a first urine sample. My last few appointments have been at the maternity hospital in late afternoon though and I just did it once arriving as I had no containers left at home.

paintfairy · 24/12/2021 11:03

@2020mission I don't have any containers. Its OK if you can do one when there assuming you can wee. I couldn't the other day. Its much easier if they give you some so you can do it at home! Saying to just bring one isn't really very helpful at all when you aren't going to have a bloody pot (to piss in 🤣).

Kate105 · 24/12/2021 11:10

@paintfairy our midwives were a bit snotty about turning up without wee in hand but you can get sterile containers if you ask your GP reception nicely

2020mission · 24/12/2021 11:24

@paintfairy I know it's never fun doing it there! I'm always worried I'll miss my appointment too if I get called in while in the loos 😅 yeah I'd agree with Kate and ask at the doctors or hospital if you can have some containers to take away so you can provide urine samples for your maternity appointments. They can't say no. When I ran out I was so tempted to use a container we had left over that was for my husbands booked semen analysis 😆

Also I didn't have to pay for NHS scan photos but I am in Scotland so maybe it's different here?

My appointment letters always said they will aim to accommodate one person with you at appointments but they will have to wait outside until you are called in. Most of the time my husband is waiting outside and I have to call or text him to come up to the room once I'm in any appointment. A few times they allowed him to wait with me in the waiting room when it was quieter.

Minster2012 · 24/12/2021 11:37

Hands up🤚🏻if you were hugging the toilet vomiting & 💩 ing all last night evacuating my system...Just me then? So been back to bed & feeling a little more human now

@DKDK123 big hugs for your gran, it's crap but best place i guess for her

@2020mission how you feeling today?

@paintfairy how can you properly adult without having any Tupperware containers? 😂

@Kate105 to be fair I actually like this stage from about 3 to 5 as the little hitlers get the concept of bribery (sorry, rewards) and they are funny having full on conversations with you...I don't know if @larrythelizard & @DKDK123 & those others with toddlers/children agree with me but I found the 18month to 3 years the worst time & that's the point I thought I was raising a killer...but nope he's actually a very sweet if feral child. You obviously taste way nicer than any teething toy

@Vil10 that's so sweet, Im sure telling his folks today gets the same reaction today

@becarefuloutthere you sis I made me laugh with the "not ready to handle a turkey yet" comment 🤪yes we have DH's parents coming over for a bit in the morning, then cross over so they can see my parents, my brother & his girlfriend & their toddler coming to us, same as usual then over to DH's parents for Boxing Day. I have done it all before, in fact DH & I made a lobster bisque for a starter our first year (when we told them about my friend being pregnant with our DS) but this year brother /SIL doing starter, we are doing all mains except red cabbage which parents are doing then parents doing dessert too so as to lighten the load. My turkey goes in the Aga tonight to slow cook so that should actually be out & just staying warm from first thing (first time doing it like that though so 🤞🏻)

@Lexber there surely gotta be some room for them to wriggle around?

larrythelizard · 24/12/2021 11:50

No comment @Minster2012 DS is 2.5 so still in the serial killer phase.

GTT is the glucose tolerance test (aka gestational diabetes) test done at 28 weeks ish. Not everyone has to do one, I did with DS because of my BMI and because my brother is a type 1 diabetic @paintfairy. I had to pay for scan photos with DS yes! 2 of my NCT group had IVF babies, one of them ended up being consultant led because of it, the other didn't so I think it's depends on your clinic as to if you automatically end up consultant led or not!

Hope you feel better later today @Minster2012

2020mission · 24/12/2021 12:10

Aww @Minster2012 what caused that? Is it pregnancy symptoms? Hope you're feeling better now! I'm fine no labour symptoms today. I'm in fear today of labour happening 😬 don't want a Christmas birthday! So I'm trying to take it easy and hopefully it won't kick in until Boxing Day at the earliest. I'm feeling total guilt at conceiving when I did now with the bad birthday I'm putting on him. Especially after listening to a parenting podcast the other day with them laughing at anyone who conceived in March and ending up with a Christmas birthday. Those people clearly don't understand how difficult it is for some people to conceive and that you don't have the luxury of skipping months 🙄 I know it must be tough for you too since you would have been due around now too. May will be a lovely time for your little girl to arrive though!

@Vil10 just scrolled back and noticed I missed the scan photo aww its lovely to see all is going well! Your mum knew about the fertility appointments didn't she? She must have been so pleased to hear the news 😃

becarefuloutthere · 24/12/2021 12:43

@Lexber yay so glad everything is well! Two perfect babies 💕
@DKDK123 so sorry to hear about your gran, that's sad but thank god for ds being there to cheer everyone up! ♥️
@Kate105 haha he won't be serial killer, promise 😇
@bez91 haha I know right, I'm a headcase 😝 at least next year I'll feel confident with turkey...hopefully 😉
How will you avoid mil or doesn't she live with fil?
@Vil10 ahh your day sounds so lovely! Your OH has taste, love me a bit of Diana Ross! X
@paintfairy how confusing, have you had a google of that pre term thing? Not heard of it myself. I reckon Dh could probably come with a negative LTF, you'd have to call and check tho I reckon. I see @2020mission answered the GTT question. And yep you always have to pay for scan pics but they tend to give you an extra as a freebie, mine did anyway!
@Minster2012 hehe I'm silly 😜 ooh that turkey sounds like it'll be scrumptious 😋 I bet you can't wait for all the festivities! Hope you feel better tho, hugging the loo all night is not the one 👎🏾
@2020mission I'm glad you're ok and hanging in there still! Labour can take days sometimes anyway so here's hoping you miss Christmas and Boxing Day! 😘

bez91 · 24/12/2021 13:28

@becarefuloutthere yes they're separated so there's the jealousy that we're spending with FIL on her part also.

Oh @Minster2012 that's no fun. Take it easy hope it eases off for tomorrow!

@2020mission hang on in there baby!

Another thing to put you off children @paintfairy - 20 miles into journey we had to stop at services as DD needed a wee and a number 2. Didn't number 2 and then apparently didn't need it, we're now 30 miles in and we've had to stop again for said 💩 ! Just now waiting for the travel sickness and we're not even half way 🤦🏼‍♀️ so joyful 😆

Kirky658 · 24/12/2021 13:57

Just wanted to pop on and wish everyone a very merry Christmas. Lots of love from us all xx

Minster2012 · 24/12/2021 16:16

@bez91 have you made it yet? Ah the 💩 stories with kids never end 😂 same for @larrythelizard no comment is wise

Yep don't worry I'm chilling as much as possible today, we were going to do more prep for tomorrow but I think I need to take it easy so as to be ok tomorrow @2020mission I'm not sure really I think it's a mix, we were at friends yesterday & he had the cold/chest infection I'd had but the fact I was so violently sick within a few hours of coming home I think it's more food related maybe? I had paella & a fair bit of different cheeses including the French ones but they were all pasteurised, some strong though. Maybe it wasn't a great mix? But then again I felt better earlier now gone rubbish again so @paintfairy said she felt worse later on in the day? So maybe both. DH says I'm pale 😬

@becarefuloutthere your Christmas will be grand

Minster2012 · 24/12/2021 16:16

@Kirky658 happy Christmas darling, your pics look absolutely lovely 😊

paintfairy · 24/12/2021 21:27

@DKDK123 sorry about your gran.
@bez91 yay for no MIL. Albeit temporarily. I actually need to wee every hour when driving anywhere, so toilet stops would be no issue. 🤣
@Kate105 maybe the next Dexter? 🤔🤣 And midwifes can be bloody snooty but if they don't give out pots, what are you meant to do?! I'll try asking at the GP - who are useless for the most part generally.
@Minster2012 I have tupperware containers (mostly with no lids that match) but I didn't think they'd accept that? 🤣 Eugh. That doesn't sound good at all? Could be something you've eaten i guess?
@larrythelizard yes i asked the one and only person I know that has a baby (who knows about me) and hers was ivf. She said that's why and they scared her shitless at the appointment telling her all these stats about higher still birth risks etc. Great.

Have a great Christmas everyone! 🎄🎄

Minster2012 · 25/12/2021 07:28

@paintfairy i took mine in a Tupperware container! You need to up your adulting game and match them up 😂

Happy Christmas everyone! 🎄🎅🏻🥳🥰

Juno231 · 25/12/2021 07:28

Merry Christmas girls! Although I celebrated it yesterday 😀. Told my parents as the final present and they were so so happy. Dad won't shut about it now which is starting to get annoying 🤣

@paintfairy if push comes to shove the pharmacies sell the sterile cups for cheap? My dad is a ship's purser and works one week on/off. His ship was in a wharf in Poland for maintenance this week so that's the only reason he came home so late as he had to travel back from there.

Minster2012 · 25/12/2021 08:10

@Juno231 that's so nice, I bet they are jade up and it's lovely if he can't keep going on about it ❤️🥰🥳

paintfairy · 25/12/2021 08:49

@Minster2012 🤣🤣 did you? We don't have any wee sized ones. What did they do with it when you got there?!
@Juno231 I had to Google that but that sounds an interesting life! Is it a passenger ship?
I reckon if I told my mum about it, she'll never shut up. 🤣 its off-putting. But at least you can leave. It's nice they are pleased for you!

Juno231 · 25/12/2021 09:06

@paintfairy ah yeah sorry - it's the people management equivalent of the captain on board. Captains manage all the techy people and the ship's purser everything else. Dad has alway worked on big ferries or cruises so that usually involves a lot of staff, restaurants, supply/contract management, budgets etc. I'm not sure how big the current one is though!

@Minster2012 your poor Tupperware 😂. I've done that once but got told off for it as it needs to be sterile 🙄. Should've provided me with one then shouldn't you!

Minster2012 · 25/12/2021 09:45

@paintfairy anything is a wee sized one surely? I used the ones from a Chinese! Better to aim the wee at a larger one 😂 & I put boiling water in it first so it was as sterile as possible @Juno231

feliznavidad2 · 25/12/2021 10:39

Happy Christmas lovelies x

Vil10 · 25/12/2021 10:59

Quickly popping on to say merry Christmas to all you lovely lot!! And the last one before a new baby for some of us🎄🌟 have a lovely day!!xxx

Sunbird24 · 25/12/2021 12:17

Merry Christmas everyone! Sorry I’ve been MIA for a while, it’s harder to get time to read and comment while I’m at my folks’ place.

We’ve not started cooking yet, and what presents there are will be opened after lunch (not even a stocking this year for the first time in forever!) I do however have quite a strong fancy for a Big Mac meal, which I know I won’t be able to treat myself to until I go home! 6+6 today, still 12 days until the scan…

Lexber · 25/12/2021 14:25

Merry Christmas everyone- I hope you all have wonderful days with your loved ones ❤️

We had our meal last night so today is buffet (oh made as I did last nights dinner) and relaxing while we can! Next year will be chaotic again - 15yr old, 12yr old and 8/9 month old twins!

One of my friends got the twins a present.. 🤣🤣🤣
