@PeeAche I wish! For me it's the opposite feeling. The closer to 12 weeks I am, the slower time seems to go... Now that I see there is a change that this pregnancy actually going ahead, I am terrified that it won't. Achieving the 12 weeks' scan milestone seems like it will be such a relief! Especially as it also comes with the first set of tests that things are ok and the baby is fine.

By the way, I am also part of the geriatric clan (35)! Apparently we are a majority over here... 😅

rathernotshare · 16/11/2021 17:44

Now I'm nearing 12 weeks I'm feeling that 12 weeks will still not feel safe and that I should wait til 20 weeks to announce. Eeep

Clomid1 · 16/11/2021 18:18

@rathernotshare I would prefer to wait until 20 too because thats when you find out if the baby is developing properly. Personally I’d leave it until the baby is born and over a month old 😂.

My husband wants to tell everyone though. I’ve refused to let him tell anyone but his mum until 12 weeks so he really wants to tell the rest of his family at 12 weeks. I am not overly thrilled about it but I guess thats because I am focussing on the negatives whereas he thinks everything will be fine

rathernotshare · 16/11/2021 18:32

@Clomid1 I think if I wait til then I may end up keeping it a secret forever 😂 I'll be 16 weeks when I share just because that's when I see family. But 4 extra weeks doesn't sound too long.....

3yearstrying · 16/11/2021 18:37

@rathernotshare @Clomid1 im the same! Literally not going to announce it at all until baby is here, and only telling close family that i will see after the 12 week scan, which i also still dont feel safe at really. I think 36 weeks then my mind will be at rest Grin

ALHCTPS · 16/11/2021 18:46

I wish I had the option of not telling people, but it’s true that you ‘pop’ so much more when you’ve been pregnant before. I’m literally the same size at 8 weeks as I was at 17 weeks with my little boy. I said goodbye to my waist several weeks ago and started wearing my old maternity trousers. I’m pretty scrawny (19 BMI at a push - whole family are like that, so no credit to me) so I look like the snake that swallowed an elephant.

As for baths, unless it’s so hot it makes you sweat, you’re fine. The average warm bath is fine and, believe me, essential as you get bigger. It will be the only place where you feel comfortable as you have what feels like a bowling ball under your skin.

ALHCTPS · 16/11/2021 18:48

By the way, if you’re forced to tell people before it’s properly public, keep a list of who you’ve told so that - worst case scenario - you can update them as painlessly as possible if things go wrong. Nothing worse than someone asking how you’re getting on when you’ve miscarried. That said, I took comfort in people knowing. Miscarriage can be very lonely when no one knows.

Pandamama88 · 16/11/2021 19:19

I threw caution to the wind and told almost everyone I am close to that I was pregnant the day I tested positive. I'm pretty bad at sitting on exciting news and as it's my first I was extra excited. My husband and I happened to be staying over at my mother in Law's house the morning I tested positive and my husband's family knew that we were trying and I had mentioned that I was going to do a test as I was a couple days late. I know things can be a bit volatile in early pregnancy and miscarriage does happen. But I'm also of the school of thought that it's not talked about enough and if people know they can support you.

Wellthiswasunexpected · 16/11/2021 19:22

Aw man I’m in this situation right now @rathernotshare @Clomid1 @3yearstrying! Problem is I’ve booked a trip back to London next week because I’ll be 12 weeks and assumed I’d be more than ready to break the news by then 😂 full of regret but also - no way out now!

3yearstrying · 16/11/2021 19:28

It is very true @Pandamama88 miscarriage does need to be less of a taboo subject. When i miscarried in June this year i hadnt told many people so it was bitter sweet i had to act normal around people who were oblivious and i could be sad around others, i wish i had just spoken about it more. But on a positive note hopefully this is a full term pregnancy and i am due in June 2022 so definitely something that keeps me going and positive thinking

rathernotshare · 16/11/2021 19:37

To be fair I'd probably have told friends and family by now but I haven't seen my parents since I was unknowingly 2 weeks pregnant. I'm less keen to tell colleagues. I told my manager as I was having bad morning sickness and he's been horribly unsympathetic (quote - my wife didn't even know she was pregnant until 15 weeks) and pressuring me into telling people before I'm ready so my cover can be arranged

CurryandSnuggle · 16/11/2021 19:53

Bloody hell guys I’m showing already. My clothes suddenly feel tight and painful. I’m doing an emergency maternity shop tonight lol. I am getting quite a lot of growing pains too.

AlbatrossSociety · 16/11/2021 19:56

Ugh @rathernotshare what a cockwomble, absolutely no surprise that your not keen to tell colleagues! I hope when the time you feel ready to share comes you have some people who are a bit more supportive at work.

I am self employed but work in a school and I've told my contact and the head. I kind of want them to know why I'm not as on it as usual - I'm glad I did because I was late with a report this week and the head was really understanding! She did say that I need to get used to my poorly functioning brain though because it never goes back - those of you with children, is that true!? I don't want to be like this forever!!

I've also told quite a few friends because I take the view that I'd like them to support me if I were to miscarry. It's hard because my husband has also told quite a few of his friends and I understand he's excited but also don't necessarily like the idea of discussing a miscarriage with his friends! But then I guess he may also need some support if that were to happen? I suppose it's not fair for me to be able to tell and not him but that's still what would have happened in my ideal situation

Unarosaes · 16/11/2021 19:57

@rathernotshare your manager sounds lovely... ugh. I'm happy for his wife, but I wish him 2 months of all-day nausea. Doesn't even need to be severe, just regular constant nausea all bloody day long.

I was also leaning towards not letting friends know until 20 weeks, but I think we'll start telling some people earlier. My DP is working hard to make me stop worrying about everything that could go wrong and accept that the odds are in our favour.

3yearstrying · 16/11/2021 19:57

@CurryandSnuggle oh amazing! Id love to show but im pretty sure its all bloat right now haha

CurryandSnuggle · 16/11/2021 20:08

@3yearstrying you’ll be showing soon enough! I didn’t start showing until 14 weeks with my first, so this is the second baby effect I reckon.. 11+4

pregnancydiaries · 16/11/2021 20:21

@CurryandSnuggle love this ♥️ I’m already “showing” at just over 9 weeks. Presuming most is bloat but it’s solid and sore to wear anything tight, I’m quite wee so think you can see it more. Can’t hide it for long!!

CurryandSnuggle · 16/11/2021 20:29

@pregnancydiaries aww wow, cute! Smile they are sweet little bumps at this stage.

PeeAche · 16/11/2021 20:49

@Unarosaes - maybe us geriatrics are just more "active" in the autumn. 🤭😉🤣

@CurryandSnuggle what the???? I'm so jealous!!! I put my step son's football up my shirt this morning and paraded around in front of the mirror while DH was at the shop.

HWka · 16/11/2021 21:05

@rathernotshare totally agree I’d rather wait until 20 weeks to tell people. My partner was talking about telling some random friend of his sisters who were meeting up with on the day of the 12 week scan (with his sister who already knows!) I put my foot down and said absolutely not I won’t even be telling my brother and grandparents until Christmas when we should have got the test results back from the tests at 12 week scan.
I may have bitten his head off a bit too much as this woman who I’ve met 3 times tried giving me fertility advice after my miscarriage!! Blamed the hormones Blush

caz198917 · 16/11/2021 21:06

Is anyone finding out the sex of the baby? I didn't find our first time around with my son. But this time round I'm quite keen to know. Has anyone found out then wished they had waited?

PeeAche · 16/11/2021 21:10

We'll be finding out the sex!

CurryandSnuggle · 16/11/2021 21:15

@PeeAche haha the football story made me laugh Grin won’t be long so get ordering your maternity clothes so you have something comfortable when you suddenly pop out as it takes you by surprise!

CurryandSnuggle · 16/11/2021 21:16

@caz198917 I’m finding out. Found out with my first and didn’t regret it, it made it easier to get attached as I could imagine the baby being a “he” and helped with choosing a name.

Pandamama88 · 16/11/2021 22:06

We are definitely finding out the sex!
