I've been feeling morning sicknessy since Monday..waves of nausea, metalic taste in my mouth. felt awful till thursday, slept lots. hardly ate till today.. just toast till today. feel better now but still getting waves of sickness and that strange taste and salavation. I've had 2 babies before which is why it feels like morning sickness. My youngest is 1,not sure of my cycles yet, think I've had 3 periods but each only lasted 2 days (normally mine last at least 5). I'm still breastfeeding.

Could all this be hormonal swings or something other than pregnancy?

Canyou take a test?

camillathechicken · 08/12/2007 19:23

you neeed to take a test , if it is 2 weeks or so since you had unprotected sex then you can test. even if you are breastfeeding you can still ovulate

yellowbean · 08/12/2007 19:37

i took a test yesterday and its negative. i just never get ill and the rest of the family are fine so i'm discounting a virus.

thing is, if it was a period the first day of that was only 14 days ago. Surely I wouldn't feel sick that early on? and If I'm pregnant from a previous cycle then the test would have showed positive by now. I did feel sick very early with my second child... about a week before my period was due

Sounds like a possible pregnancy. Am not a medical person so i don't know if it could be anything else.

I would do a pregnancy test on day 20 or so if symptoms still there. If you are concerned, go to your GP.

yellowbean · 09/12/2007 09:48

thats the problem though. i have no idea waht my cycle is so dont know when day 20 is. don't think theres much my gp can help with really. just wondered if anyone had had anything similar

LOVEMYMUM · 09/12/2007 13:00

Please go to your GP. The 2 day periods may be light periods which can occur during pregnancy. One can still get pregnant while breastfeeding. You need to know what is happening with your body.

yellowbean · 09/12/2007 19:14

i know i can still have periods/get pregnant when breastfeeding etc... Have done 2 tests, both negative. Don't know what else a GP would do. I have no idea about my cycle yet so don't know if if testing at the right time.

It could be pregnancy but it could be that you're a touch anaemic. Go to your GP, no harm can come of asking!

LOVEMYMUM · 11/12/2007 12:28

Hi yellowbean. Your GP can do a blood test to check the levels of hormones in your blood to see what is going on (a bit like a blood test to check for iron levels but instead, checking for other chemicals).

yellowbean · 11/12/2007 20:25

thanks. think i'll give it ill next week. did another test yest which was negative. don't feel so sick, but still queasy. have had some cramps but that could mean anything.

OP posts:
yellowbean · 11/12/2007 21:09

not sure why you think i could be anemic? symptoms dont really fit

OP posts:
Pk616 · 11/12/2007 23:56

They don't fit the classic anaemic symptoms I'll grant you, but I feel tired and nausious and get that metallic taste when I'm anaemic so I thought it was worth a mention!

yellowbean · 12/12/2007 20:55

thanks... don't think i'm anemic though, if nothing changes i'll see the doc and see what they say, thanks

Yellowbean - well I started vomiting before I got the test result and I tested positive at three weeks post ovulation.

I'm bfing a 13 months olds and have had one period, one miscarriage and now a pregnancy.

However you would get a definitive answer if you tested 20 days after sex and it was negative. If it is negative btw, it could actually be that you have a cold (which can cause a metallic taste in the mouth) or that you have a thyroid/anaemia problem). Either way a blood test will sort out what's going on (can also test for pregnancy that way). So off to the GPs you go!

yellowbean · 12/12/2007 21:05

blimey! i just assmed that if i felt so symptomatic that a test would show positive if i actually were pregnant. not really sure of my cycle but think i'm only about 13 days since we had sex. just didnt think i could feel symptoms that quick. we're not trying so its not as if i was looking for symptoms. i still feel a combination of sick and hungry... its been 9 days of that now. i guess the tests i've taken would be way to early anyway. My dd is 13 months also! are you pregnant now? still breastfeeding, what will you do re breastfeeding? stop?

whomovedmychocolate · 12/12/2007 21:10

Yep six and a half weeks, still breastfeeding, bit sore in the nork department but I'll keep on if I can. You do have to eat TONS of food though, I keep thinking I'll gain weight but so far, nothing. I'm eating literally two meals in the evening and still feeling starving. But I also keep craving green veggies (weird!)

The going to bed at 8pm sort of tipped me off and that was only seven days post ovulation. I used ovulation predictor tests and so I knew exactly when I ovulated. We weren't really trying either. But we're v happy about it now

yellowbean · 12/12/2007 21:18

congrats! sounds like you're very organised! will this be your 2nd child? i was wondering about breastfeeding if i am pregnant.. dont want to stop with dd yet.. will see... have no idea whats going on. either i am and i've had really early symptoms or else my body is just mimiking it for some reason. i could understand it more if we had been trying cos then i would have been looking for symptoms and could be imagining it! so confused

Hi yellowbean, i'm 32 weeks now and my ds is 16 months, i breastfed him for first 2 months of my pregnancy but it was exhausting and now have a small for dates baby, as was underweight when conceived due to so much breastfeeding and general toddlerdom. I weaned ds because couldn't face breastfeeding two babies and wanted to do it well before the birth so he wouldn't remember too much and get jealous. PS it sounds like classic pregnancy and the hormones in your urine often don't show till 3 weeks after sex.

yellowbean · 12/12/2007 21:38

thanks for your input. i am concerned about possibly being pregnant and continuing to feed. would feel really guilty about stopping though as dd is really keen on feeding! you'd think that i'd know symptoms for sure really, third time around, i just cant work out how it happened if i am pregnant!

OP posts:
readinginbed · 12/12/2007 21:54

DS LOVED breastfeeding but amazingly got him weaned fairly easily, just gave him lots of cuddles with readybrek instead . Actually GP said no link between small baby and breastfeeding in preg, just that breastfeeding does make you lose weight and in my case i lost too much for healthy pregnancy. I couldn't work out how it happened either as sex was and is a far-off happy memory

whomovedmychocolate · 13/12/2007 08:10

Yes Yellowbean, this is number two. Best thing is to wait at least three weeks since you had sex and test again. Why don't you buy yourself a super duper digital test for christmas and maybe you'll get a nice surprise on Christmas day (be sure to buy some chocolate too as commiseration in case you don't get a BFP though )

yellowbean · 13/12/2007 13:11

good idea... don't know if i can wait that long, though will have to i guess. not really sure what i want the result to be, will be happy either way really... whats meant to be and all that. xx take care xx
