Hi everyone made a new thread for all the ladies due end of March beginning of April 2022. We are coming to the end of the first trimester, some of you have already crossed that important milestone! Some are starting to get bumps and sickness could be leaving, has anyone got that 'glow' yet... fat chance

@Cxjai792 well fingered crossed it moves. My friend was told a definite c section and then it moved last minute so you never know. Glad baby is content and happy though. Xx

Dyra · 18/12/2021 14:17

@Cxjai792 Yay for a happy baby! The important things with low lying placentas are how far away it is from the cervix, and if it's front or back. Don't quote me on this, but I believe I've read a posterior is more likely to move than an anterior. As for distance away, naturally the further the better, but I think it's something like it needs to be >25mm away from the cervix to allow for a vaginal birth. There's still lots more growing to do. Once we get past the middle of the third trimester, that's when it starts to matter. Hope it moves up, up, and away for you.

@SouthwestSis Covid is rife here too. It's pretty much confirmed now I will not be working past 28 weeks. Just need myself, my boss and HR representative to be in on the same day now to sign off on it. GJ on finishing the shopping! I've still got a little bit left to do. I can't face wrapping it all up yet. There can't be only 1 week left to go.....

Caass45 · 18/12/2021 22:03

@Cxjai792 sorry to hear placenta is low fingers crossed it moves in the next few months!

I'm not sure whats going on with me 😅 back at the docs yesterday with my side pain they think I have an infection now. Got a course of antibiotics and cocodamol. Feel fine in myself just painful.

Hope were all keeping well and excited for Christmas 🎄

Cxjai792 · 19/12/2021 09:00

Thank you ladies, keeping everything crossed!

@Caass45 sorry to hear your still having trouble! Did they send you for any tests? Hope you start to feel better soon!

Caass45 · 19/12/2021 11:33

@Cxjai792 no not really any tests. They did urine and blood pressure at the hospital and urine dip at the doctors but apart from that no real tests. Glad to have something more than paracetamol even cocodamol is only taking the edge off but I'm surviving 😊

Cxjai792 · 19/12/2021 23:19

@Caass45 hopefully the painkillers and antibiotics get to work soon so you can enjoy Christmas pain free!

SouthwestSis · 21/12/2021 21:28

Has everyone arranged to switch to working from home now? I can't really do my normal job from home so will be interesting to see what my work come up with for me to do!

Countingchicks · 21/12/2021 21:47

I'm going to be working from home after the Christmas break. Well, as much as I can. May pop in for supplies and to pick up some post and printing. Getting a bit nervous heading into the third trimester soon with all the covid around

Caass45 · 21/12/2021 21:51

I own a cafe so I deffo won't be working from home😅 taking almost 2 weeks off in New year though.

Thanks @Cxjai792 so far no improvements 😢

Dyra · 22/12/2021 01:21

In theory, yes. From New Year (28 weeks) I will be suspended on full pay as I have zero duties I can perform from home. In actuality, I don't know.

Through no fault of my own, my manager hasn't passed on my maternity leave request to HR yet. The one I filled out nearly 4 fucking weeks ago... She thought she found a fault in it (there wasn't), so she sat on it until I came back from 2 weeks leave. I only work Mondays and Fridays, and she doesn't work Fridays, and wasn't in the Monday just gone... I'm pretty sure she won't be in on the 3 shifts I have left before 28 weeks since the only bloody Monday is a bank holiday (which I shouldn't be working either, but that's a whole other issue). So yeah... Annoyed. Pissed off. Seething pregnant cauldron of rage.

SouthwestSis · 22/12/2021 09:50

Yes @Countingchicks it does feel more risky going into 3rd trimester. Have you managed to have your booster jab?

@Caass45 great that you have 2 weeks off in the new year, is there any way to make work safer for you when you do have to be there?

Sounds infuriating @Dyra But you are do nearly there now, surely they can't expect you in after you reach 28w just because of your managers cock up?

Countingchicks · 22/12/2021 10:16

@SouthwestSis yes managed to get it on Saturday. Phew!

Caass45 · 22/12/2021 10:34

@SouthwestSis yeah we do what we can to make it safe. Thankfully we don't have to have too much close interaction with people and being in scotlabd face coverings have always been mandatory. Everyone working here is double vaccinated and we all have boosters planned. Husband and I are getting ours when we are off.

SouthwestSis · 22/12/2021 11:52

Ah hope you can avoid catching it until then @Caass45!

Dyra · 22/12/2021 13:52

@SouthwestSis If I have to, I'll show up on the 6th. Even if it is due to my manager's incompetence, I'll be the one in trouble if I'm expected and don't show up. Annoyingly manager looks like she's on annual leave all this week. So I still won't know if it's sorted.

Dyra · 25/12/2021 22:07

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you've all had wonderful days, Santa bought you everything you wanted, and everyone's bumps have been on their best behaviour!

MiracleBaby2022 · 25/12/2021 22:44

Merry merry Christmas 🎄🦌🤎

Scoaf · 27/12/2021 18:23

Happy Christmas Everyone.
I hope you've all had a lovely time and are all feeling ok?
Im currently drinking gaviscon like its going out of fashion 🤣
Just thinking ahead and wondering if any ladies who already have little ones can recommend some Must haves for hospital bags or just post birth for us 1st timers? Also any recommendations on Maternity Pads or disposable knickers? X

Dyra · 27/12/2021 21:53

I spent a week in hospital before DD, so I can heartily recommend bringing your own pillow. Hospital pillows, unless fresh out of the bag brand new, tend to resemble pancakes in terms of flatness and comfort.

Definitely bring a charger with a loooooonnnngggg cable. Wall plugs in healthcare settings tend to be questionably placed in relation to where they're actually needed. Chargers where you can charge more than one thing are equally valuable.

Snacks. All the snacks. With DD, before labour, I last ate Wednesday at ~5pm. Other than a solitary slice of postnatal toast, I didn't eat again until Friday at 8am. I was ravenous. Fortunately there was an entire box of breakfast bars in my bag, which managed to tide me over until lunch. If you're breastfeeding, keep some snacks to hand, you get hangry.

Big drinks bottle with anti spill lid. If you're breastfeeding, not only do want snacks you'll want a constant supply of drink. Those little piddly plastic cups do nothing if you don't have a second hand to refill them. One big bottle of water/squash to suck on with one hand, while the other hand is busy holding baby to you while it sucks the fluid straight back out of you. Keep it refilled and in reach at all times.

I got my stock of maternity pads via work, so no recommendations other than just go big and unscented. Bulky as all hell, but it did the job. Don't underestimate how many you might need too.

Squeeze bottle to use in the toilet. I used an old sports bottle. I had a second degree tear, and therefore some stitches. Getting pee on them is like jabbing slivers of glass coated in acid into your foof. Gently squirting some warm water over the area while peeing was a game changer.

IMO, don't fanny about with oils. If you want to chill your pads, just slip some in a bag into the freezer and change regularly.

Dyra · 29/12/2021 10:13

Hope you get to hear the heartbeat at your scan today @Nats7504!

Nats7504 · 29/12/2021 13:40

Hey! Hope everyone had a lovely sober Christmas 😂

How are you all feeling? I’m starting to feel pretty uncomfortable now and struggling with insomnia 😫 Shattered but unable to sleep is no fun!

@Dyra Thanks for remembering - had my 28 week growth scan and they did the Doppler scan at the same time so I got to hear it ❤️ He is growing nicely and estimated at 2lb 10oz!

Cxjai792 · 29/12/2021 20:50

Hope everyone’s had a lovely Christmas!
Currently feeling very large and uncomfortable already, dread to think what I’m gonna be like in a couple of months😂really hasn’t helped that a co worker decided to compare my weight to another colleague who isn’t even pregnant🙃made me feel wonderful I went home crying! But apart from that baby girl is doing ok and wriggling away.

@Nats7504
Glad to hear your little one is doing well and that you got to hear his heartbeat!

Dyra · 29/12/2021 22:00

Had a wonderful (albeit pate and wine free) Christmas. Hope everyone has had a good one too.

@Nats7504 Yay! So glad you finally got to hear the heartbeat. Plus 2lb10 sounds an excellent size for 28 weeks.

Also on the large and uncomfortable wagon. I swear it wasn't this difficult with DD. I distinctly remember being able to get on and off the floor with ease even at 36 weeks. A distant memory now... Doesn't help that every time I'm on my hands and knees struggling to get up DD takes the opportunity to climb aboard for a horsie ride. A full night's sleep is also a thing of the past.

On the plus side, unless work manage to redeploy me in the coming weeks, Friday is my last shift. Not so good is that I have to use up my annual leave while they try to find a suitable redeployment. If they do find a place it means that I'll have to work right up until 39+1.

Caass45 · 29/12/2021 23:42

@Nats7504 so glad you got to hear baby 😊

I feel massive. Everyone I meet says I'm small though for 6 months but I just don't believe them. Finding it a bit more difficult and tiring getting around. Also finding it hard adjusting to my changing shape. It's all so new. Just had my first experience of seeing my belly move when baby kicks. Kinda freaks me out 😅

Any suggestions for good supportive non underwired bras? Midwife and Doctor suggested moving as they believe my side pain is related to it. Been using a sports bra which has helped but with 36DD boobs I feel like they are swinging round my ankles 🙈

Scoaf · 30/12/2021 06:46

@Dyra thanks for all rhe great advice. All feels a bit real doing a list.

Im sorry everyone is feeling uncomfortable but Glad im not the only one that feels like a house and seems to have forgotten how to sleep 😴
I have my 28 week midwife appt and 1st growth scan next week so hoping all goes ok.
Hope everyone has a lovely NYE whatever you are doing.
Takeaway and early night for me. X
