@Jellybean023

Thank you.

I ended up missing the offer in the end and had a look through some previous posts on here about 'biodegradable' nappies not actually being very biodegradable! Mostly to do with the way our refuse tips work.

I think I'm going to go for the cheap Aldi eco ones (made in an eco friendly way) for the first few weeks. Only £1.99 a pack of 20 or so!

I'm also not going to stock up on too many as partner may need something to do at times to get out from under my feet!

Has anyone else got everything they (think they might possibly) need?

We have baby grows, furniture and car seat to go... oh and nappies!

@PrettyPlatapus wow that’s very organised! We’ve just about got a bedroom plastered but currently nothing to go in it! Going to save the big buys for Black Friday or usually there’s good offers in the run up to Christmas. I think I’m still at that stage where I’m still a bit frightened to get too much yet.

feb2022 · 16/10/2021 13:33

@PrettyPlatapus I think I'm sorted too, still need to buy baby wash and a few new fluffy towels and I'm good to go I think 😊
I have a few friends that have passed stuff down to me like clothes, mostly brand new and a brand new Moses basket, very lucky at the moment... but I think I'm done
I need to get my two boys in the same room though and then sort the other bedroom for a girl... it's space themed at the moment but has everything in there it's just a case of taking the wallpaper off the one wall and replacing it with something a bit more suitable for a girl
I have major mum guilt about making my boys share a room though, silly I know!
It's more house prepping I need to do now, some serious re decorating is needed in the living room and dining room 😲

We’re starting to think about getting organised and went to try out travel systems today - we’ve got a Juke and found the one we liked doesn’t fit in the boot! Gutted! I think we might have to go for a more compact one but I get the impression they’re not as good on different terrains because the wheels and frames are smaller. Anyone have any advice on prams and small car boots?

CaramelWaferAndTea · 16/10/2021 17:42

@ladybecks22 The most versatile buggy I have is a cityjogger mini (I also have a bugaboo bee, which is great for city walking and tube, and a maclaren for childcare as it fits in the childminder’s storage). It folds one handed, lies almost completely flat, and makes it around forest paths easily in all but the very deepest of winter when it’s just too muddy, and then it is light enough that we could tolerably lift it with a sleeping baby in it (forest at the end of the road). I didn’t have it from newborn as we moved this way at five months and I bought it then, but i think it’s easily the one I’d keep if I could only keep one! I think you can get a carrycot. I never ever attached the car seat to the buggy despite having all the kit as mostly when I drove places, I used a sling, or just moved the baby.

Winterfellismyhome · 16/10/2021 18:17

Haha i love the ghoul babies! Heres mine from 12 weeks

We've been very fortunate to be given everything so far. Has saved us thousands of pounds!

Buggy advice is really useful, will only be able to get one I think, again on the look out for a second hand one.

I've been given a moses basket with mattress, but have heard advice the mattress should be replace with each new child (even if siblings). Is this really necessary?
I know they range from under £10 to upwards of £30. Not sure of a cheap one will be comfortable enough?

Same with car seat, how do people feel about second hand? I think I would only get from someone I knew and which had obviously been treated well... seems to make sense that it should fit into a buggy base though... although planning on using a sling mostly anyway as don't often use the car.

@feb2022 not even thought about their own room yet, never mind decorating! It is currently my office. Will eventually becomes their bedroom though.. maybe you little girl will love space and planets! I know I loved having those glow in the dark stars on my ceiling growing up!

LadyBecks22 · 17/10/2021 17:29

Thanks @CaramelWaferAndTea ! Since you mentioned it I spotted someone with a cityjogger mini this morning (I’m becoming that strange woman eying up prams everywhere I go!) in our local park/woodland. Baby looked v happy in it, and wheels were nice and muddy.

lililou · 17/10/2021 18:21

Hahaha I'm also eyeing up people's prams as they walk past. Been researching them a lot, I read really good things about the city jogger one too!

In my research it said never buy a second hand car seat unless you know the people you're getting it from. You never know if it's been in a crash before and it could mean it's less safe.

Genuine question - why isn't a space theme suitable for a girl? My DD loves rockets etc 🚀😃

Peachi82 · 18/10/2021 09:14

If you get a Babyjogger City Mini, make sure you get the GT or Elite version, as the suspension and the wheels are better.
Love our GT and will definitely use it again once baby doesn't want to parent face anymore.

We haven't decorated a nursery for our son... He was always in our room and now, with nearly 4, he is transitioning into his room. No special decoration in there either. Feel like the worst parent ever 😂

Not much to report here. Baby is using my bladder as a trampoline, preferably at night. I am often very tired and exhausted. Half term is coming up, need to make a few plans, so that we are busy.

2under2howscary · 18/10/2021 09:41

We live in the city centre so have the cosatto stroller. Started off with a silver Cross travel system which was far to bulky. Decided on the ickle bubble double pram for the 2 boys, and have a hauck travel system i got second hand off marketplace for when it's just baby ds xx

@PrettyPlatapus I am having a car seat from my good friend. I know she hasn't been in any accident at all so it's safe. I also am having a baby crib from a friend, and getting a new mattress. Lullaby Trust says mattress needs to be firm, good condition, no rips or damage, but think I'll get a new one anyway for peace of mind as they also say that might be best.

For prams, I live in a flat in London, and planning to get the Yoyo city as it just weighs 6kg and folds down to the size of a carry on back pack. Will be easier for the tube etc and can hang on a wall hook next to our shoe cabinet. Have had a look at friends and neighbours that have the same one and it looks pretty good to my (inexperienced) eye

becarefuloutthere · 18/10/2021 12:41

Morning all! Hope everyone is well 😊

Just wondering if anyone's experienced nosebleeds yet? Never had one before (not even as a child), I've been very bunged up with a cold so thought I blew a bit too hard the other day but I got another one this morning. Seems like it's quite common in pregnancy from a google search but interested to hear from others all the same.

Jellybean8 · 18/10/2021 15:27

Hi everyone, has anyone got recommendations for a good video baby monitor? Or ones which aren't so good to avoid? Thanks

feb2022 · 18/10/2021 15:54

@becarefuloutthere I get them all the time! I was horrendous when it was super warm a few weeks ago, it's something to do with the increase in blood volume or so I've been told, same with headaches and things
But I have always suffered with them and I had to have my nose corterised a few times... which apparently hasn't worked very well for me 😂

feb2022 · 18/10/2021 15:55

@Ajl46 I don't think it's not suitable I think it's more for me 😂
After 2 boys and just seeing space/dinosaurs/ cars for years I'm a little exited to do something a little differently

2under2howscary · 18/10/2021 16:03

@jellybean08 the BT ones are really good. I have the bt 4000. I did have one from amazon which was a bit pants begins with a t I think.

Vtech is also good, but would fully recommend bt xx

This is really good.

Lots of friends have them and one friend even replaced her really expensive Angel baby thing with one of these

@becarefuloutthere
Yes what a shock that was! I've never had one either and was asleep. Half woke up with what I thought was a normal runny nose.
Gosh it did not stop and I have a stain on my bed frame now!
Only happened the once though.

becarefuloutthere · 18/10/2021 17:51

@feb2022 oh jeez, I imagine having your nose corterised is no fun! 🙈
@PrettyPlatapus good to hear I'm not alone! Was a bit scary at first but it's happened twice now. I hope today was the last day for me as the cold is slowly going now.
@highstreetdiestreet I've saved that pic! Thanks for asking @Jellybean8 😊
