@ftengineerm @squibble84 @adventuresawait the docs have now said I can go and visit her with an escort😂 I've just got to wait for my tea and due some more meds then hopefully I'll be good to go. At this point I don't care if I need to be there all night 😅

FTEngineerM · 18/08/2021 20:27

Hooray have a lush evening with her @Kirky658

AdventuresAwait · 18/08/2021 21:04

2021mumma · 18/08/2021 22:23

@Kirky658 so happy for you! Enjoy every second soaking her up.

Congrats to all the other recent arrivals x

deedeebythesea · 19/08/2021 02:35

@Kirky658 So pleased they have finally agreed to let you see her! I understand it means your BP is more under control now? Thinking of you, baby Alice and her DH and hoping this is the light at the end of the tunnel and you will be heading home very soon X

@Jay3004 congratulations & welcome to the world baby Kit! Hope both mama and the little one are doing well!

@FTEngineerM thank you for the new group! There is so much to talk about once they arrive, I am sure we will carry on chatting for another 100+ threads. Can’t wait to officially join the club. Just going to keep up to date on others’ news for now.

Baby Boy has gone a little quite in the last two days. The back pain disappeared on Monday and didn’t not come back. Had some odd twinges down below just before falling asleep but that’s about it. Tbh his movements have also been barely noticeable. Contemplating whether to call triage but then my 38w appt is on Friday... Could just wait couldn’t I?

GWhiteley · 19/08/2021 06:51

So I have a question on pram carrycots. We bought the joie versatrax travel system in the end & put it all together to have a look at last weekend. My question is this, if you're supposed to keep the baby near the foot of the carrycot (foot to foot thing), surely you can't then put the cover on that comes with it as it'll more than likely be above their head for quite a while? Also what would you put the baby in to keep warm? Surely a blanket wouldn't be enough in the winter?
Why am I only just realising this now 😩🤦‍♀️

KHR1 · 19/08/2021 07:19

@deedeebythesea I would always call if you are worried about movements. Better to get checked and put your mind at ease

@GWhiteley you can get nice warm pram suits to keep them warm in winter or a coat with a blanket for the legs (DD was too tall for pram suits)
direct.asda.com/george/baby/coats-pramsuits/grey-ribbed-padded-pramsuit/GEM802663,default,pd.html?cgid=D5M10G1C3
My mum used to think I was daft but I used to strap DD into the carry cot (I don't know if they all have straps or not but ours was one that turned into the pram seat too) so she couldn't slip down, as like you said, feet to foot she would have been too low down.

SP2Bx · 19/08/2021 08:08

@Kirky658 Hope you got some time with Alice, enjoyed every second and filled your heart up ❤️

@GWhiteley I wouldn't worry too much in a carry cot as you'll be looking at them the whole time anyway? Plus, not sure about the depth of yours but the cover on ours wouldn't smother baby as it's too high up anyway (obviously you wouldn't intentionally put it on over their head!), so it would only be blankets to worry about them wriggling down under, but then as others have said, pram suit or coat should do the trick!

Joey86 · 19/08/2021 08:41

@Kirky658 I hope you managed to see Alice, and you don't have to be apart from her again.

@GWhiteley I wouldn't worry about foot to foot in a pram, you can keep an eye on baby as you're not sleeping like when you both in bed. Snowsuits and blankets are good for winter, although mine usually go in a sling with a blanket tucked around the back of them in winter, keeps us both warm for feeds.

I'm 38wks today, I have mw appointment at 12:30 and I've been offered a s&s. So I'll let her examine me, and I imagine I'll have the s&s as she said chances are I'll be a bit dilated (this is my 3rd baby). Then I have a chiropractic appointment this afternoon, so she can make sure my pelvis is all aligned ready for baby to make his way out.😄 that's the plan, although I'm actually hoping I'll need another s&s on Monday and that baby comes on Tuesday. Don't think he'll listen to my plans though!
I'm booked in for induction next week at 39wks, if need be.

I've been waking up at 4 and 5am the past few days, DH and I have been exhausted. Can't get back to sleep between back pain, ligament pain, baby moving, acid reflux. Today we managed to go back to sleep until 7:30! 🙌 ...that could be our last lie-in for a while though! Haha.

We're having a porch built, and unexpectedly had the have our gas supply disconnected yesterday, hopefully getting it back today or tomorrow. But I had a cry about it yesterday because it means I can't shower before my mw appointment today! I'll get DH to bring a couple of kettles of water upstairs, and have a little bath. I'll use dry shampoo for my hair, and at least my bits will be clean! 😄

Has anyone else had contact from a health visitor? Before they've had the baby!? I had a text saying I'm getting a home visit on Friday! Um, no thank you. I've replied and said it's not convenient, my kids have a birthday party to go to anyway. They didn't used to do that. I can't stand health visitors as it is, they just stress me out. And I don't fancy one coming while I'm without hot water, house is a mess, and have builders around. Nope.

GWhiteley · 19/08/2021 08:52

@Joey86 yes I've been contacted by a health visitor & she's coming next Tuesday afternoon. She caught me on the hop a bit & as this is my first baby I have no real clue what they do. Are they going to inspect my house to check I've got everything ready for the baby or just to see how I am? If she's coming to inspect my house then she can bog off!

Moominmiss · 19/08/2021 09:03

Ugh @Joey86 I bloody hope no health visitor contacts me. Like you I can’t stand them. Will avoid them as much as possible once baby is here, so definitely can’t be doing with them poking their know-all noses into my home before baby is even here!
I also have builders in as we’re in the middle of an over garage extension and everything is everywhere!

Joey86 · 19/08/2021 09:10

@GWhiteley I have no idea nowadays. I imagine it's not their job to check up on our houses, unless it looks like a real concern. They didn't used to come to the house. My youngest is 9, and it used to be that you'd see a mw at home every few days until baby is discharged from their care, then you're transferred to health visitor care. But the appointments used to be at the local clinic, and you didn't have to go, unless you wanted baby weighed, or had a question etc. I never found them helpful when I had a question, they totally missed my pnd, and they used to stress me out and quiz me about feeding DS1, one time they got his red book mixed up with someone elses and thought he'd lost loads of weight. Told me I must have done something different, really panicked me as I thought he was getting bigger...which he was, they just made a mistake!😤 I was already on edge as he'd been re-admitted to hospital as a newborn for excessive weight loss due to undiagnosed tounge tie which made it hard to feed. Ugh. Anyway, all that made me dislike health visitors.
Hopefully it's not at all like that for you! 🥴

Joey86 · 19/08/2021 09:10

@Moominmiss glad it's not just me!! 😂

FTEngineerM · 19/08/2021 09:40

Seems HVs are a shit show everywhere.

‘Give him a dummy, he’s using you as a dummy, you don’t want that’ she said..

(Whilst weighing him a few weeks later) ‘he’s not gaining as much weight as he should be you’re going to need formula top ups, have a think about which milk you want to use, I’ll be back in a fortnight to weigh him’

(Comes back in fortnight) ‘oh great he’s gained nearly a lb, fantastic how much top ups were you giving?’

FUCK ALL I STOPPED THE DUMMY YOU TOLD ME TO GIVE HIM.

Trust yo’selves ladies.

GWhiteley · 19/08/2021 11:04

This does not fill me with confidence as a first time mum. What if you don't want to give them a dummy? My husband & I have agreed it's unlikely we'd use one to start with & see how we go.
Don't they realise it's hard enough for ftm's without adding other complications?!

Kirky658 · 19/08/2021 11:05

I love these health visitor stories 😂😂😂😂😂 god help us all!!!

I had an amazing couple of hours with Alice last night. Had to go to the ward at 10.30pm due to the times of my meds being due and had a student midwife escorting me to make sure nothing dodgy happened with my BP...anyway the news today is I'm going down to the ward and Alice is coming too!!! I'm equal parts terrified and excited xx

FTEngineerM · 19/08/2021 11:34

Then just don’t give one @GWhiteley, you can do what you want when you slam close the door behind them. I was just pretty impressionable as a new mum ☹️.

FTEngineerM · 19/08/2021 11:36

That’s amazing news @Kirky658 you’re in for a much better few days 😍

bewitchingnight · 19/08/2021 11:37

Hurrah @Kirky658 that's fantastic news!

Joey86 · 19/08/2021 11:52

@GWhiteley do what you want, honestly. Listening to others is what drove me mad. You will know best.
I ended up giving my first a dummy, after a week or two, as he wanted to suck all the time! I was sore. He would immediately fall asleep on my boob before he was full, which added to his weightloss and jaundice. He ended up lethargic and not feeding at all, just sipping at my sore nip and snoozing! Ugh. The dummy saved my nipples, and helped him feed better as he was able to sleep in between feeds...which I scheduled at first to help his weight. Feeding on demand didn't work for us, initially, as one time when he was 4days old he randomly slept 6hours with no demand, I didn't know this was bad for an already jaundice baby!
Everything got better for us when I started doing what my instincts told me to do, rather than what books and health visitors/midwives told me. Sometimes you just have to smile and nod at their advice, and then do whatever you want to do.
My second didn't need a dummy, he was happy to feed well, then flop into a milk coma with his mouth gaping open 😂 They were so different!

@Kirky658 that sounds great, I'm so pleased for you!

MrsTD88 · 19/08/2021 11:55

@Jay3004 congratulations 💙

@deedeebythesea please call triage, don't wait until tomorrow. Any change in movements should be checked.

@Kirky658 so glad you got to spend some time with Alice, so happy for you that you are both going to the ward.

My health visitor is coming out on Tuesday. It's the same one I had with our daughter, I must be one of the lucky ones as she's amazing. She doesn't force her views on you, listens and offers impartial advice. I hope the rest of you are as lucky with yours.

LauEli · 19/08/2021 12:13

Sorry to hear some to hear some of you had bad experiences with your hv's.
Mine was fine, she did come out prior to ds arrival but it was literally to chat, she asked if we were ready for his arrival and was happy with our answer. She didn't check on anything.
She never questioned my choices, she weighed him, made sure everything was OK at home, and he was feeding well, she didn't ask why I stopped bf within 2 weeks or try to push me to continue. And she never out stayed her welcome. I will have the same one with dd.

Hope all new babies and mummy's are doing well today @Kirky658 amazing news you'll both be going to a ward together 😁

Squibble84 · 19/08/2021 12:26

@Kirky658 that’s brilliant news! So glad you’ll finally be with her and hopefully that will help bring your bp down!

Sorry to hear some people have had bad health visitor experiences! I actually had mine come this morning for a pre-baby chat and she was great, we actually ended up chatting more about my current toddler and ways to help her adjust to the new arrival as opposed to the new baby. Guess it’s just hit and miss!
