hahaha @Mamabearwhere would love it if it was that easy!!! oh my! what makes me feel better too is you are doing this for the 3rdtime, i keep telling myself ppl do this more than once!!
Yeah same @Tokyo87 - literally havent thought about it, despite reading the positive birth company book on hypno recently, but still didnt seem real. Its having got to 37 weeks and thinking well in theory its all fine now for him to arrive any time.....argh. good luck with the class this eve!
tbh my MW i think is trying to discourage me from thinking about complications, like u want to be prepared but then I think she was right as it could just all be fine so dont think of the worst. she was adamant the important bit is when it all kicks off if you are at home etc, just to relax and take it easy and eat/drink plenty. she was like if u get strressed and anxious then itll all slow down. Easier said than done, but hey, can but try?! I think ive read too many blogs about how awful it has been and i just done think im gonna be able to do it....
whens your due date?

SP2Bx · 17/08/2021 15:41

@leftitlate37 Sounds like you need to find yourself some positive birth stories to read to counteract those blogs then! 😉 they do exist haha...

I've done hypnobirthing and although I know some things will be out of my control / have no clue how I'm going to cope, it's given me the confidence just to go with the flow and know the things I CAN influence, whatever happens. I'm weirdly looking forward to it! Perhaps that's the naive FTM in me 😅 It's going to be hard but super empowering! We can all do this - and will! 💪🏼

Really recommend hypnobirthing, especially if you're a naturally anxious person. It's not about the relaxations and affirmations and "fluffy" stuff for me... it's been the sciencey bits about the hormones at play and how to nurture those for an effective labour which I've found the most interesting/sensical!

Scotti84 · 17/08/2021 15:56

@leftitlate37 ive stopped reading things about complications. Im a complete control freak so normally i would like to know what all possibilities are so i can be prepared, but with this for some reason the less i know, the better. I have to trust my body to do what it needs, ill try and help it with the breathing etc as much as i can and if anything does go wrong the hospital team are experienced and will hopefully be able to do what they need. My mum had a completely normal pregnancy before me which resulted in a stillbirth with absolutely no explanations why, so i think im kind of aware that absolutely anything can happen and obviously things like that are rare, but I can either drive myself crazy worrying about all possibilities or i can kind of shut it off and try not to overthink and just get on with it.

SillyBry · 17/08/2021 16:03

@leftitlate37 If it helps, my first birth was very positive!
I woke up in the night and felt some mild contractions... thought oh god, is this it?! Went through the night with them about 7 mins apart, but very manageable. I literally breathed through them and hubby slept blissfully unaware.
I got up for the day, sent him to work as they were disappearing again. Went over to do my horses and my mum dragged me for a dog walk. Contractions were hit and miss - all very manageable and not too frequently - sometimes 30 mins apart. Went home, showered and napped. Hubby got home and they picked up a bit. By 8pm, they were every 6 mins, so we popped to hospital to be checked. They told me I was 1cm and sent me home again.
Had dinner, went to bed and woke up at 1am with "proper contractions"!! Got the TENS machine out and managed with that and breathing til about 3am. Rang the hospital who told me to do another hour at home. Got admitted at 4.30am at 4cm. Was given gas and air, which I coped well with until about 7.30am. Then I had some pethidine, which knocked me out til nearly 9am... I woke up, was pretty sick and cracked back on with the gas and air. Around 10.30, my waters broke and then at about 11am, I started pushing. Baby was born at 11.48.

I tore and had stitches, but honestly, they didn't cause me any bother. Healed well and really didn't hurt too much.

It's super natural to be scared of the unknown, but just tell yourself you have got this... whatever happens, you can do it. You are strong and take each step as it comes :-)

(PS. 37 weeks today.... how on earth have we only got 3 weeks left?! Argh!!!)

JasVL · 17/08/2021 18:52

@showmorekindness spoke to the midwife today about the period pains, she said that can be how it starts! Apparently we can mistake contractions for period pains/ diarrhoea pain. She said if it is the real deal then the pains will just get more frequent.

I've not had them much today so she said just keep an eye on it but if finding getting them more then to give the hospital a call to be checked x

Krista1991 · 17/08/2021 20:09

Hello.I went to the hospital today ,because I was having a bad contractions ....

I was sent home after an hour ,how I understand the first one is the baby’s heartbeat and down below is contractions.

Came home and it’s more intense 🥺🥺🥺

September 2021 Babies - Thread 8 The final stretch....
FTEngineerM · 17/08/2021 20:11

@Krista1991 did they give you any advice on how to relax/try to get rid of the contractions if they’re not regular? I’d give them a call again and explain it’s started again, no harm done and they’re the pros

Krista1991 · 17/08/2021 20:15

They didn’t checked down below nothing ....

But something has started slowly and said the baby is happy and if something changes, need to go back 🤦🏼‍♀️

I am a bit worried that a false labour can go quickly to the real one 😳

leftitlate37 · 17/08/2021 21:08

haha @SP2Bx! u r totally right! its like self sabotage im only finding the baaaaad ones!!! totally with u on the sciency stuff of hypno thats been useful, it really helps to understand what the contractions are doing i think. And the whole fear tension pain thing, i know i can get myself worked up so need 2 try chill else ill be tense from the off!!
@Scotti84 sorry to hear of what your mum went through :( u r totally right, weve defo gotta trust our bodies! they will know what to do....definitely no point worrying about all the what ifs that might not happen!
ah @SillyBry thanks for sharing that! that really helps! Altho id have cried being told i was 1cm and to go home! id be like how much worse does it need to get?! sounds like u did amazingly. What did u think of the pethidine by the way? was that what made u sick? 37 weeks today wahoo! where has the time gone seriously?!

LauEli · 17/08/2021 21:11

@leftitlate37 sorry to answer question for sillybry and only my experience, but it was definitely pethidine that made me sick. Not something I'll have this time, I also didn't feel like it reduced my pain at all

Jary6 · 17/08/2021 21:45

My first experience was completely different to how I thought it would go.

Saturday 9am I woke up and my waters broke. I honestly thought I'd just wet myself so went for a walk and couldn't stop wetting myself. I called the hospital and they asked me to go in so they could check. Confirmed it was my waters and said I had to stay in as the baby had pooped so I needed to be monitored. I stood around doing nothing until 2:30pm when they induced me on a drip, they ramped the drip up and down to try to get my contractions going but my body didn't react at all. Gas and air didn't seem to do anything for me and it was agony. In the end I had an epidural. I actually had 3 epidurals as the first two they put in the wrong place and I didn't feel the needle at all as I just wanted the pain to stop.
Once the epidural was in it was great, I had a button for when I had pain and I was happily chatting to the MW through the night whilst they were trying to get my contractions going. Unfortunately my body just wasn't playing ball and I didn't dilate past 2cm by 10am Sunday. I signed the paperwork for a C-Section and baby was getting restless but then all of a sundown before they took me in they checked me and I was 10cm (honestly I was blissfully unaware as the epidural was doing a great job) they asked me to push which felt fake as I was happily smiling and not in any pain but every time I pushed baby's heart rate dropped and so they asked me to stop, eventually they took me to theatre and said they would try for a few minutes with foreceps and if that didn't work they would give me a c-section, they cut me and tried forceps and she came straight out, she just needed to be twisted round a bit. She was born at 3:15pm on the Sunday and it felt like the time flew!

Sorry for the long post but I was planning an all natural birth but that's what happened with my first, and although was very different to what I expected I realised you just have to go with the flow, I'll try natural this time but if pain gets too much I'd be happy to have another epidural Grin

Tokyo87 · 17/08/2021 21:47

@leftitlate37 yeah think I'm going to do some reading on hypnobirthing too as literally everyone says it helps! I'm really pleased I've done the class tonight though, feel so much more confident in knowing what could potentially go on and surprisingly not freaked out at all! I'm actually thinking more positively weirdly! Due date is 24th Sept although I have a feeling I'm going to be late

Jary6 · 17/08/2021 21:51

@Tokyo87 I'm also due 24th September. I was 10 days overdue when I daughter was born so I'm hoping this one makes and appearance a little earlier than that this time round. They will come when they are ready I guess.

Tokyo87 · 17/08/2021 21:53

@Jary6 wow, congratulations! Im glad you and your baby girl are both well 💕

Tokyo87 · 17/08/2021 21:55

@Jary6 ohhh I've just re read that, baby brain!! Haha, yeah I've just got this feeling he will be late. My mum, gran and Aunty were all late with theirs so maybe that's why

leftitlate37 · 17/08/2021 21:57

Thanks @LauEli! Grateful to hear people's experiences!!
@Jary6 gosh sounds like a long ordeal altho u found it flew...epidural (well attempt 3!) Sounds good!!
Ah i keeping hoping baby won't be really late...cant imagine still having another 5 weeks! I figure get 2 due date then it'll seem less of a long time and can take each day as it comes!!

Jary6 · 17/08/2021 21:59

@Tokyo87 expecting a boy this time round and hoping it goes well. Everyone talks about the bad parts and it's obviously not always pleasant. I said I would never do it again, but I'm doing it so that my daughter can have a sibling. A baby is such a magical gift and you realise this and at that point you realise you would go through that paid for them any day.

Although it's not easy, once the baby is born that's it, they are here and you've done your bit and you can then focus on looking after the baby.

Jary6 · 17/08/2021 22:02

@leftitlate37 yes was pretty long. I was most scared of tearing but by the time it came to it I didn't really care, I just wanted her to be okay. I'm just sort of expecting it to happen this time round again.

Yes epidurals are serious and it's scary when you read the complications that could come from it but, I thought it was awesome Smile

SillyBry · 17/08/2021 22:14

@leftitlate37 well, I was sick a few times in early labour… struggling to hold water down. But the pethidine definitely was odd. I’m planning to avoid it if I can this time.
I felt instantly off my face when it was injected. Having said that, it knocked me out and I had a great sleep/rest before the final stage of labour. But when I woke up, I could feel the pain, but couldn’t make my brain compute how to comprehend it.
I also didn’t like it as baby was very sleepy on birth, which I think the pethidine contributed to, and it made feeding harder.

Having said that, I would still prefer to have an epidural over more “serious” interventions.

I’d also say I didn’t mind going home at 1cm… but when I went back in, I was like “this is waaaaay more serious, I’m NOT leaving this time!” 🤣🤣

Jay3004 · 18/08/2021 06:35

Kit William Garner arrived yesterday at 10:00hrs weighing 5lbs 11oz 💙

The section was a bit eventful as they struggled with the epidural and I almost needed a general anaesthetic but thankfully it worked in the end. I also lost more blood than expected so I’m still feeling sore and a bit wobbly.

Although he’s a great size for being 5 weeks early he’s needing some help with his breathing so he’s in NICU at the moment. I’ve not even got to cuddle him yet which is breaking my heart but hopefully it won’t be long now 🤞🏻

Hope you ladies are all well and enjoying the final few weeks - it really does feel so surreal when they’re not inside you anymore.

KHR1 · 18/08/2021 07:33

@Jay3004 congratulations! Wishing you both a speedy recovery and hope you get a cuddle soon!

LauEli · 18/08/2021 07:58

@Jay3004 congratulations, what a lovely name! Hope he's out of the nicu soon so you can give him snuggles

AdventuresAwait · 18/08/2021 08:19

Congratulations @Jay3004 & welcome to the world Kit xx

Noodles4Me · 18/08/2021 08:34

Congrats @Jay3004! You rest up, you'll be cuddling soon I'm sure. Love the name Kit too xx

bewitchingnight · 18/08/2021 09:02

Congratulations @Jay3004 and welcome baby Kit! Fab name. Hope you're enjoying some cuddles soon 💙
