@manoa that's really unfair. I had a private full anatomy scan at 14.5 weeks with a Dr who specialises in fetal medicine. He said even with his superior scanner, there's stuff he couldn't pick up until after 20 weeks given the baby is so small (wasn't it like under 3 inches at 13 weeks?)
I'd personally push for a full scan in two weeks if you can, because it's really not on they haven't done one

manoa · 16/09/2021 10:01
@manoa That's not fair at all, could you complain to the department and request that they do a full scan?
It's a small a one doctor place and not in a hospital. :-/

Yes! That's what the doctor at 13 weeks said as well! That the organs are not fully developed and you could only see that later in pregnancy if they developed correctly.

EsseKey · 16/09/2021 10:07

@manoa sorry to hear that, was it the NHS scan? I think that they have to do all the required measurements because they can be predictive of specific conditions that may require treatment! I mean I don't think it's their choice, this is basically the reason why NHS offers the anomaly scan! Not sure though if maybe they have immediately seen the problem with your cervix and therefore there is another protocol to follow... I hope you can get this sorted and have your baby checked thoroughly!!!

spttc · 16/09/2021 16:36

@manoa seems very strange. They definitely need to do a full scan and check everything

manoa · 16/09/2021 16:58

Wasn't an NHS one. But then I will ask in 2 weeks for it and if it won't happen book another one somewhere else.
Thank you all for your advice!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/09/2021 17:54

My scan was thankfully okay today, feeling very relieved

BobbleWobble1 · 16/09/2021 18:03

Also permanently tired here. I'm now in the mindset that I'm just going to be dragging myself through this time. First pregnancy was such a breeze. Just wish I could sleep properly.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 glad your scan went well

EsseKey · 16/09/2021 18:49

@manoa when I went for a private visit and scan at 16 wk the obgyn who visited me said that in private no one does anomaly scans (i.e. the 20wk scan) because they have some sort of legal value and therefore only hospitals and specialised centres are authorised to do it! This wasn't in the UK though, so it might not have the same legal/official value, but just to say that there is a good reason why this scan specifically is advised and performed in hospitals, while other are not. I hope you can get this sorted :)

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 glad your scan went well!! :) :)

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/09/2021 09:15

Thanks @BobbleWobble1 and @EsseKey. Good luck for others having their scans coming up soon!

@manoa if you're close to London, there's a private Dr who does detailed anomaly scans, he's an expert in fetal medicine. He likes to do them from 22 weeks. Or sounds like you have a good person who did your 13 week one. With what you say about the setup at the hospital tho, might be a good idea to get another, even tho you shouldn't have to as the NHS should provide this as a basic!

Kayl23 · 17/09/2021 10:00

Well we ended up in hospital last night getting checked over because while I was walking my dog, some ridiculous man couldn't control his Rottweiler who was trying to get my dog. The man literally didn't have the strength to pull his dog back so just let it come at us, so it did get to my dog but thankfully no bites, the dogs were both on their back legs going at eachother then fell into me and knocked me over onto the floor on my front. The man didn't even try to help me or ask if I was okay! I think I had a panic attack to be honest cause I became absolutely hysterical crying convinced something had happened to the baby and the man just left me! So so so shocked still but so relieved that all is okay with baby!

EsseKey · 17/09/2021 10:55

@Kayl23 bless you, that must have been so scary!! And that man has been so insensitive!! Glad that you and the baby are ok though!!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/09/2021 11:32

@Kayl23 omg what an awful man! He let his dog come over and attack yours and just left you on the floor. I can't believe some people. So sorry, that must have been so stressful and upsetting. Glad baby is doing okay. You did the right thing getting checked and hopefully can have a relaxing weekend to recover x

Kayl23 · 17/09/2021 11:57

It really was so scary, I'm so dizzy today too but I think that's more from the stress and the fact I couldn't sleep. I just really can't believe it, after they knocked me over I was really panicking and shouted at the man "I'm pregnant" and he just stood looking at me like I was crazy! My partner wants to go speak to him today but I'm worried about the dog going for my partner cause the owner clearly can't control the dog

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/09/2021 12:27

@Kayl23 it's a tough one, because had he been really apologetic, and helped you up, back home, to get checked whatever it would still have been bad but at least he recognises/acknowledges that and was sorry. And hopefully will do some sort of training with his dog.

The fact he left you lying on the floor and didn't even say sorry is really bad. You don't want to be worried being out and about with your lovely dog in the future if he's a neighbour and you're likely to see him a lot again

expectinglittlebear · 17/09/2021 12:36

Had our 20 week scan today and it was perfect! All measurements bang on where they needed to be, so relieved!

@Kayl23 Gosh that's awful, what a d**khead!! I assume all was okay at the hospital?

Kayl23 · 17/09/2021 12:54

Aww congratulations on the scan @expectinglittlebear it's nice to hear all is well 🥰 so reassuring isn't it! Did you get to watch baby wriggling around?! So cute 🥰

Yes thankfully all was okay at the hospital. The only problem is that none of the midwives I've seen so far have been particularly great... they're not horrible or anything but they've really made me feel like I was wasting their time so that's making me quite anxious about when I go in to give birth!

Jonesy88 · 17/09/2021 22:52

How scary @Kayl23. It doesn’t seem like a nice dog or owner so I’d prob clear well clear.

Today want also our 20 week scan! The appointment lasted an epic 3 and a half hours and was actually 4 scans and 3 walks due to a stubborn baby and a (thankfully) also stubborn sonographer refusing to give up. All is well, most things measuring bang on where they should be and the others not enough of a difference to cause any concern. Feeling very tired and sore though from all the walking and prodding.

spttc · 18/09/2021 17:50

Anyone decorated baby room yet? If so any nice paint suggestions?

Scottishgal85 · 19/09/2021 13:09

We've only stripped the nursery room down, haven't started decorating yet though. I think we might go for a light grey colour with yellow accessorises, rather than the typical blue.
I'm loving the wall stickers from enchanted-interiors.co.uk so I think we might buy some of them Smile

sociallydistained · 19/09/2021 17:20

Have spent so much on maternity wear 😩 I didn’t want to and have resisted but I’m getting so down about this in between stage where I think I just look fat rather than pregnant and I’m so self-conscious. I couldn’t find any work trousers that worked so have been squeezing into a slightly bigger size of my usual size and I’ve just been counting down the hours until I can get home to my confines… but today I found 3 pairs of trousers that are suitable and so comfy and I’m finally happy! Lol. One pair of black skinny jeans from Next (I have tried so many different maternity skinny jeans to no avail before them) and 2 pairs of what I’d say are thick leggings but slightly jogger style (but fitted) and they have pockets 🙌🏼

Anyway guys hopefully work will be more comfortable this week! How are all your bumps coming along? I am certainly starting to look pregnant now and I am already struggling to tie my shoe laces easily! 😬

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/09/2021 21:44

@Scottishgal85 those wall stickers are so cute! Thanks for linking to them. Planning to move within a year so reckon I'll do this in the room so we can peel it off before we put the place on the market.

@sociallydistained I'm feeling pretty pregnant looking also, have gained more than 11 inches around my stomach, and people have been congratulating me without me telling them I'm pregnant (for a while now). Ordered some more mat stuff after my latest scan and feeling a lot better to have clothes to wear that fit

EsseKey · 20/09/2021 13:14

@spttc we redecorated the entire house last year (thank god, I can't even think about doing one room now!!), so baby's room will stay plain ivory for now. I am going to buy some cute stickers for the walls though :)
@sociallydistained so far the money spent on maternity clothes has been really worth it for me! The level of comfort I am getting from maternity jeans (for work/going out) and maternity leggings (to stay at home/exercise) is incredible. So don't feed guilty for that ;) I will try not to buy too much but honestly I need to be comfortable... I am planning to buy some dresses that hopefully I can use also after the baby is born, and a winter coat OR an extension for winter coat (I love that some of them double act also as babywearing pouch :) )

Does any of you already have a lot of baby items? after looking around in some shops I know 99% what I want for the "big" purchases (prams, cot, etc) but I have NO IDEA what I will need to buy for the baby like clothes etc! Every time I look at newborn essential lists online they are all different!
I have received a few gifts already from friends, but they are a bit random (super cute though!) so I don't think I will keep them among my "essentials"...I want a bit of control over that ahahah

Scottishgal85 · 20/09/2021 13:26

@EsseKey I have purchased the big things (pram, cot etc) but I agree, with the 'essentials' I have no idea where to begin! Every list I check online seems to differ, and there's so much choice. I have started buying some wee bits and pieces (muslins and such) but I really need to make a proper list and get sorted!

sociallydistained · 20/09/2021 14:37

Yeah after feeling so comfortable today I am not regretting my maternity purchases. Let’s be honest I’ll be wearing them day in day out and even months after baby is here I’m sure!

I am hesitant to buy anything in terms of clothes/blankets etc until I have baby shower (not something I was overly keen on but friend insists and it is free stuff haha!) my friend has urged me not to buy anything! My Mum sent some cute leggings by post and my Nan said she had been stocking up on muslins and was going to buy some shirt sleeved vests so already I’m glad I haven’t been buying stuff! I did buy a bundle of babygrows from a baby sale for a pound lol. I reckon after baby shower (December time) I’ll have a good idea of what I might need!

My friend has a big boots employee discount so is going to take me to get lots of essentials neater the time like maternity pads, wipes, nipple pads etc for hospital bag 😂
