Hope all goes well for those of you that have scans coming up.

Thank you to whoever mentioned whooping cough vaccine. I was definitely more organised first time round. Think I'll try and get it done when I see midwife at 28 weeks to try and save 2 appointments. Maybe flu jab as well if I'm lucky.

Re stretch mark creams. I was always of the understanding that stretch marks were mostly down to genetics....

EsseKey · 05/09/2021 17:00

@BobbleWobble1 yeah definitely stretch marks are one of those things that will happen if they "have to" happen... But I am sure that using moisturisers/oils (as well as keeping hydrated and having good nutrition) can help at least to ease the discomfort that comes with the skin stretching so much over the bump!

Do you know if it is possible to have whooping cough and flu jab done at the same time?

sociallydistained · 05/09/2021 17:32

You can have flu vaccine and whooping cough don’t st the same time, yes. I’m waiting to see if my whooping cough is offered at my scan next week as midwife initially said.

I’ve booked my flu jab for October 1st at a local pharmacy.

Scottishgal85 · 05/09/2021 19:36

I was supposed to have my whooping cough jag at my 20 week scan last week, but they said they couldn't do it that day for some reason. They said someone would be in contact about it, but I'm going to ask my midwife at my next app if I've not heard.

I'm not sure about the flu jag, but I was told I'd need it leave a week between getting my COVID vaccine and whopping cough jag. Flu jag might be different though Smile

thecapitalsunited · 06/09/2021 09:55

I'm pretty sure the leaflet my GP sent to me about the whooping cough jab said you can have it at the same time as the flu jab but I was reading about supply issues so I won't hold my breath on getting it any time soon!

I've recovered a bit of energy and did an hour of various Apple Fitness+ workouts on Saturday. They have a really good series of pregnancy specific workouts including core workouts with no sit ups but plenty of hip strengtheners. I was missing working out but I've just been too tired to even think about doing anything beyond napping after work.

expectinglittlebear · 06/09/2021 12:03

Glad to hear everyone is getting on well! I have been so tired the past week or so, but then work has been hectic so don't know if its just that or a mixture of pg symptoms too! I have also caved and bought a pg pillow from amazon - I have been sleeping awful... I am normally a back sleeper but trying to sleep on my side for weeks now, but I find that my upper half tends to drop back to my back in my sleep, with my legs still on the side in the foetal position if that makes sense.. so I have basically been stretching my upper back all night long and I keep waking up with an awful upper back pain!! Hoping the pillow will stop me from subconsciously dropping my shoulders back down!

In regard to oils/moisturiser, I haven't got any stretch marks or anything yet (and hopefully won't) but I have been putting Palmers Stretch Mark Massage Lotion all over bump every evening and my skin definitely feels so much softer, so hoping if I keep that up I won't develop any marks at all.

I believe my whooping cough jab will be happening at the same time as my 20wk scan (on 17th Sept), haven't heard anything about the flu jab! Do we have to book that ourselves then?

I know this has been asked many times but just need some reassurance.
I’ve got my covid vaccine booked for tomorrow morning (first one) I had it booked before but had a melt down when I arrived and left before having it done. Now I’m seeing more and more research and seen some horrible stories about premature babies and mother’s being really ill.

Have most or all of you had your vaccine?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/09/2021 12:27

@Alle1991 I had my first one at 15 weeks, now waiting the eight weeks for my second one. What made me get it was reading the studies they're doing in various countries (starting in Ireland) on necrotic placentas caused by mothers catching coronavirus, even if it was asymptomatic or mild. Stillborn risk has apparently gone up after having coronavirus from 1 in 246 to less than 1 in 100.

I didn't want it really, was in two minds anyway, but my partner was adamant he did want me to have it. Hence why i didn't get it until 15 weeks as was still deliberating. But it was reading the studies above that swayed me to getting it.

Not 100% sure it's the right decision still. I have my 20 week scan next week and hopefully all is good

EsseKey · 06/09/2021 12:29

@Alle1991 i had mine in the first trimester

As far as i know All research is now indicating safety of the vaccine for pregnant women, while covid in late pregnancy seems to be way heavier on women and their babies.

Anyway do what makes you feel most comfortable, i totally understand your anxiety!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/09/2021 12:32

@Alle1991 sorry if that last bit seemed negative! I've been feeling movements since about 15.5 weeks and seems an active one in there. However it's just me being neurotic hopefully, but looking forward to my 20 week scan

expectinglittlebear · 06/09/2021 13:16

@Alle1991 I haven't had either of mine yet. I am still very much on the fence, much like you have gone to book it on a few occasions and then changed my mind again.

I know for a fact I want it and if I wasn't pregnant right now I would have had it the second I was called up for it. It's such a difficult decision when you have another life to consider isn't it.

So sorry, I don't have much advice for you, but just to let you know I am in the same boat too and am so on the fence about what to do. Flowers

Hi all
I'm due 1st Jan 2022.... I'm concerned about getting the pfizer jab as there has been limited studies on its long term effects on the baby. Is anyone else feeling this way?? And what have you decided to do?

expectinglittlebear · 06/09/2021 13:19

Also, on this topic, @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 would you be able to show me the link to that study please? Hoping it can change my mind too! x

@expectinglittlebear I put the Google Scholar on and did a lot of reading of various studies but just done a quick search for the article that had the picture of the placentas in as that visual was what made me horrified. It's here www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/doctors-investigate-several-stillbirths-among-moms-with-covid-19-68703/amp

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/09/2021 13:53

Looked like the pictures of the smokers lungs to me that were circulating back in the day.

It's a tough decision and a personal one. I don't have any risk factors for coronavirus and am a low bmi etc, but seeing other healthy young women lose their babies or have real health issues did worry me

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/09/2021 13:54

On a nicer note though, how cute is this video of how hard a 20 week baby kicks www.thebump.com/news/how-hard-baby-kicks-in-utero/amp

MamaDaria · 06/09/2021 14:06

Hi. I had both if my doses during pregnancy. The governmental institutions recommend covid vaccine to all pregnant women. The risk of having Covid and bad pregnancy outcomes are way greater than the risk with having a vaccine (at this point I dont know what they consider a risk, as side effects of having vaccine dont cause premature births or stillbirth. I have heard about a woman being heavily pregnant without the vaccine and died because of Covid, while the baby survived. Such a tragedy of losing a wife and a mum.
There is a lot of information on trusted websites like this. Good luck with making decisions girls 😊www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-women-of-childbearing-age-currently-pregnant-planning-a-pregnancy-or-breastfeeding/covid-19-vaccination-a-guide-for-women-of-childbearing-age-pregnant-planning-a-pregnancy-or-breastfeeding

thecapitalsunited · 06/09/2021 14:41

@Alle1991 I had one jab before I fell pregnant and one at 5 weeks. Everything seems to be fine so far. This was with AZ though not Pfizer but generally dead vaccines have a decent history with pregnant women and their babies and are seen as safe. Personally, because I had other risk factors, it was a no brainer for me to get the second jab even early on.

@expectinglittlebear I've not been told anything about the flu jab either but I know that I'll need one come flu season. Since my GP contacted me about the whooping cough vax, I expect I'll have to arrange the flu jab via the GP too. I guess it depends on what the arrangements are in your local area. My next midwife appt is mid-October so I'll ask then and still have plenty of time to get it done.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 That is a cute video. I think it cheered DH up. He hasn't said anything but I know he's a bit sad that he hasn't been able to feel anything yet. I'm only feeling the odd rolling sensation still, mostly at night when he's already fallen asleep, so it will be a little while yet but he likes data he can understand.

EsseKey · 06/09/2021 15:53

I have booked my flu jab at a local boots pharmacy. Not sure if I should have gone through the GP, but I think it doesn't matter. I still get it on the NHS since I am pregnant...at least I know I will have it early on before the flu season arrives!
gosh I have never had so many needles in my arm in such a short period of time ahahah

Trinacham · 06/09/2021 16:55

@Curiousmumtobe84

Hi all I'm due 1st Jan 2022.... I'm concerned about getting the pfizer jab as there has been limited studies on its long term effects on the baby. Is anyone else feeling this way?? And what have you decided to do?
I just had covid at 18 weeks. I don't want to sway anyone either way. The majority who have the jab will be fine, as will those who get covid. The vaccination does not stop covid either, as I know a few people close to me have covid after both jabs. It potentially stops severe covid. For what it's worth, I had covid really mild. I felt fine and if it wasn't for isolating, I would have carried on going to work (I didn't feel unwell at all) and I am unvaccinated. So if you're someone who doesn't want the jab, don't feel scared. It doesn't mean you will get covid badly, of you do get it. It is a very personal decision though and I don't judge anyone getting it, or not getting it. Do what is right for you. After having it covid, I will definitely be waiting until after the birth now.
thecapitalsunited · 06/09/2021 17:35

@Trinacham But you can’t know in advance that you’ll have it mildly particularly in the third trimester when the risks to you and the baby go up. Obviously no vaccine is a magic shield but we do know that it reduces the risk of catching it quite a bit and makes it much more likely you’ll only have it mildly if you do.

Trinacham · 06/09/2021 17:50

@thecapitalsunited I get what you are saying. But for some of us we fear the unknown of the vaccine. As I said, nobody knows the right answer, as there isn't one. I don't want to debate. Just letting people know not to assume they will be poorly if they don't get vaccinated (that's not me telling them to get jabbed either!!) as I wasn't. As I have had covid, I'll hopefully have the antibodies to last through my 3rd trimester (but I am going to go on maternity and shield anyway, as yes, it is unknown)

Trinacham · 06/09/2021 17:51

Not me telling them to NOT get jabbed**

thecapitalsunited · 06/09/2021 17:56

@Trinacham Equally I didn’t want people to assume that just because you were ok that they would also be. Either choice is a step into the unknown not just the vaccine option. Smile

Trinacham · 06/09/2021 18:01

That's what I mean by I don't want to sway either way (me being OK doesn't mean the next person won't be) I think people know they won't necessarily be OK though, otherwise it would be an easy decision for us all. It's just always assumed that a pregnant woman who is unvaccinated will be poorly (think the media has been to blame for this with their scare stories about the minority).
As I said though, most who get vaccinated will be fine (I believe). People should do what is best for them. Can you shield, do you have any underlying conditions..etc. if I couldn't shield in the 3rd trimester or did have underlying conditions, I think I would have the vaccine.
