@spttc
oh, sorry to hear you are so anxious! when was your last scan? 12wk?
I think it is perfectly reasonable to have one more scan in between 12 and 20 wk, especially as you have no other means to check on the baby (e.g. no obvious movements, etc...). I had a private one 2 weeks ago, best decision ever - still the 20wk scan feels ages away (mine is also on the 14th), but I think I can manage the anxiety thanks to the reassurance I had from that scan 2 weeks ago!

I can feel something that I believe is baby movements, although it's not that obvious!

spttc · 31/08/2021 17:39

@EsseKey I'm only anxious as I Havnt felt anything. The midwife did say it's normal up to as late as 24weeks. But everyone i speak to seems to feel things earlier. Just after hearing about that poor woman losing her baby etc. No I had a scan at 16+2. I'm 18+2 now. Next scan is 20+2.

I was talking to my husband just now about it and he just came in and said...."Iv booked you a private scan for Thursday at 7pm.....you can't worry for 2 weeks straight it's not worth it" 😂🙈 so that's done! He's paid for it and all 👌He's probably right to just do it and not worry!

EsseKey · 31/08/2021 17:44

@spttc I totally get the anxiety!
1000 points to your husband for booking the scan! 😊 It's money well spent!

EsseKey · 31/08/2021 17:45

@spttc let us know how it goes 🤞💖

spttc · 31/08/2021 17:55

@EsseKey I know! I couldn't believe it, I think he just didn't want to listen to it 🤣 probably worries him me worrying about it aswell. I'd say it's fine. I'm glad it's booked though 😁

sociallydistained · 31/08/2021 18:40

I really don’t know if what I feel is movement. If I feel anything it’s in the early hours of the morning but then im not sure if that’s anything or my imagination lol.

Fortunate to have a scan next week though so not too long to wait. I am anxious though. Just hope tomorrow’s midwife appointment goes ahead. I literally have no faith in her at all at this point so feels hard to believe it will happen 🤦🏻‍♀️

Kayl23 · 31/08/2021 19:26

I'm also unsure about movement... I was convinced that I'd felt him moving a couple of weeks ago but literally nothing since. I've had a scan and regularly use a Doppler since then though and all is fine, so I think he must just be a bit lazy haha ☺️ can't wait until I can feel him moving properly/regularly though. More so for when my partner can feel it! I had my nails done today and she was saying her partner could feel their baby from about 22 weeks so I guess that's not too far away!

Jonesy88 · 31/08/2021 20:14

@spttc I bet you start to feel something now! I’ve been getting “movements” for about a week. It feels like a bubble popping to me, quite low down. 80% sure it isn’t me.

My 20 week scan is the 17th. Feels like an age away but at the same time it really doesn’t feel that long that I was 5/6 weeks.

Jonesy88 · 31/08/2021 20:18

@thecapitalsunited are you taking aspirin? My midwife recommended I start taking aspirin last week at my appointment due to my bmi but I’ve never taken it before in my life and feel strangely reluctant to start now. I’m in the 30-35 bmi category but the midwife referred me for the additional scans you have at >35. I’m sure it makes sense to her. I’ve gained 3lb so far to week 18, I’m not actively trying to lose anything. Weighed myself for nosiness really.

thecapitalsunited · 31/08/2021 20:55

@Jonesy88 Yes, I’ve been taking aspirin daily from 12 weeks. It was one of the first things my consultant asked. But my BMI is over 40 so I have other risk factors. I lost 22kg last year so it could have been worse. I did some reading into aspirin and it seems like it’s quite beneficial with very little downside which is why they hand it out like sweeties now. I must admit that I’m happier now that I’m on gastric resistant stuff which can be taken normally instead of the dispersable stuff. My midwife told me to take it at night so it was a really disgusting night cap.

I’m not actively trying to lose weight, I stopped calorie counting when I found out I was pregnant but I still weigh a lot of things to make sure my portion sizes aren’t creeping up. Just generally trying to eat in a healthy way and keep active. I probably have lost weight though if I weigh the same as I did before I was carrying a baby plus placenta and all the rest of the stuff!

Kayl23 · 01/09/2021 10:25

Is anyone else finding that they're getting more tired now? I'm 19 weeks tomorrow and for the last week have been absolutely exhausted. I really can not be bothered to do a thing! I'm usually busy all the time so this is very strange for me!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/09/2021 10:42

@Jonesy88 I'm on low dose aspirin too, but for borderline low Papp-A. It's meant to help with blood flow through the placenta. I've only been on it for a couple weeks so far.

@Kayl23 yes me, I'm falling asleep at half 9 but then awake at about 4-5 am. Feeling low energy through the day also. I'm taking my vitamins still and trying to eat well, so not sure what to do to improve it really. Anyone have any suggestions what's worked for them?

SouthwestSis · 01/09/2021 10:58

I'd say I'm less tired than I was around 10-13 weeks but still far more tired than I was pre-pregnancy.
My goal for today is to do a 20 minute pregnancy cardio video on YouTube which always get the endorphins going and makes me feel a bit more awake!
I've also been drinking caffeine coke which I think is giving me some kind of placebo caffeine effect haha.
I'm just glad I'm not at this stage of pregnancy in the depths of winter cos I always feel a bit down with seasonal affective symptoms so am grateful for the longer days we have atm, even if the weather is not that nice!
Not sure I'll be leaving the house too much in December and January haha!

Scottishgal85 · 01/09/2021 11:21

I've been feeling really lethargic for the past couple of weeks too. I thought it was maybe as I'm back at work again. It's not as bad as it was during the first trimester, but it is really unlike me to be so lazy and unwilling to even go for a walk Confused

spttc · 01/09/2021 14:29

@Kayl23 I'm 18+3. I felt EXHAUSED week 16&17. Like properly couldn't get out of bed. Apparently week from 16 your blood pressure can be low. Results in dizziness & lethargy. I googled it week 16 as I was that exhausted. The photo below is when you google!

Re second trimester tiredness though I feel great this week. Have gotten so much done in work etc. that's why I was worried as I actually feel good for once 🤣 nausea back with a bang today though so I'm no longer worried

Kayl23 · 01/09/2021 14:39

Glad to hear I'm not the only one being so lethargic! Looks like it's pretty normal at this point then! I was so determined to keep going to gym all the way through my pregnancy but even a 10 minute walk feels like too much effort this week 🥴

Sorry to hear your nausea has returned @spttc although nice for you to have the reassurance ☺️

sociallydistained · 01/09/2021 20:47

Hate to break it to everyone suffering lethargy but I am on a bit of an energy boost 😳 (it’s about time) I’ve managed an hour long workout 4 days in a row and fully intending to do one tomorrow… this hasn’t happened since the beginning and that was my usual routine. Don’t get me wrong it’s 10 times harder than it ever was!
Im currently writing my dissertation and as of the 28th im done with Uni and I feel like im on a bit of an adrenaline kick because of that lol. Im glad though because I am working all weekend (extra) and I hope I still feel like this after 🤦🏻‍♀️

I had my midwife appointment today and heard the heartbeat 💓 racing along at 140bpm. This makes me feel more confident going into the 20 week scan now :) I had my bloods to find out if baby is negative like me and if I’ll need the anti-D injections.

spttc · 01/09/2021 20:49

@sociallydistained I'm the same the past few days. Honestly Iv gotten more done in work done in the past 3 days than I have the the last few months combined 🤣 id say it's an on and off thing so I'm taking advantage while I have the energy!

sociallydistained · 01/09/2021 22:53

@spttc Haha I think we both know this is fleeting so are clutching the bull by both horns haha. I honestly felt terrible most of Saturday I thought I was going to be ill so I guess it’s swings and roundabouts but I’m hoping to ride this new wave as long as possible 🤞🏼🤞🏼

babyyy1926 · 02/09/2021 08:01

Ive been so bad at messaging on this but been reading everything everyones been putting.
I found out that i am having a baby girl 🎀
Also in regards to movements i felt movements at 17 weeks with my first and then this time felt them earlier at around 15 weeks but then didn't feel anything for weeks after and rang the hospital and they literally didn't care and said I shouldn't even be thinking about movements until after 22 weeks.

Family members of mine didn't feel any movements till well after 20 weeks so i suppose I'm just lucky and everyones different. Someone who i work with is due before me and she still hasn't felt any movements yet and had a scan and all is fine so try not to worry yourselves too much

spttc · 02/09/2021 08:46

Congrats on the girl @babyyy1926 💞💕 I THINK I felt the baby move this morning. Duno what else it could have been. Like a gentle popping....3-4 times. Towards my left side. I still have my scan later which I'm delighted about 😍

BobbleWobble1 · 02/09/2021 09:05

@EsseKey I'm more than happy to share the things I wish I knew. For some reason, I found my peace with it all pretty quickly. I'll try and think of some good tips but without scaremongering as I know if I wrote out my entire experience it would sound so much worse than it actually was in the wider context and I always feel it's really unfair to do that to people as birth experiences can be so different. Would others find that helpful?

@spttc if it helps I didn't feel my first until well after my 20 week scan. Location of the placenta can have a lot to do with it so try not to worry.

As for me, obstetrics went well. They're happy to support midwifery led birth which is the main thing. I'm going to get a review from anaesthetics as that side of things was a disaster last time and led to a lot of the later issues. I'm hoping not to need them this time but I reat want a decent plan. Also going to meet with the consultant midwife for a detailed birth plan which again I hope will be useful.

EsseKey · 02/09/2021 09:41

@spttc so happy you felt something! enjoy seeing your baby during the scan later today! :)

@BobbleWobble1 sure, I don't want anyone to get scared from someone else's experience - but if you have any useful tips or things that you wish you had known about the first time...that would be great :) thanks

thecapitalsunited · 02/09/2021 17:08

@spttc Enjoy your scan later.

I got a letter from my doctors about booking my whooping cough vaccine this morning so got all that booked in for after the holiday that I'm hopefully going on in a few weeks - assuming I don't catch covid between now and then and pass the health screening. It's a domestic cruise and masks are mandatory and all the passengers are double jabbed so I feel quite safe going even though I'm still not keen on sitting inside places yet.
