@babyyy1926 Omg, I was just saying to DH that I had a terrible nights sleep because I kept waking up with a dead arm. Maybe it is a mystery pregnancy symptom!

sociallydistained · 29/08/2021 17:34

I also have dead arms in the night.

One of my closest friends who is three months ahead of me has lost her baby. I’m so so heartbroken I cannot begin to imagine what she is going through but whenever I think about it I crumble. She had many complications in pregnancy but everything was looking okay and set for an early arrival but all seemed positive and now this. I just cannot believe it. I pictured our babies growing up together. I’m now really terrified of my 20 weeks scan too (week after next).

EsseKey · 29/08/2021 17:49

@sociallydistained oh my god that's just terrible, so sorry for your friend. Really there are no words... I know it's terrifying. I hope you will manage to go through the next couple of weeks before your scan without feeling overwhelmed by this news (but I know that's easier said than done)

sociallydistained · 29/08/2021 18:27

Thanks @EsseKey I know my friend needs time at the moment and just to know I (and others are there). It’s really hard as it’s not my grief but I am finding it hard to process and wish I could know more.

I think I’ll be extra greatful for everything from now on. If I see a healthy baby on the screen at 20 weeks how lucky am I?! Every baby is a miracle.

EsseKey · 29/08/2021 18:46

@sociallydistained yeah I know, very often people give for granted that at the end of every pregnancy there will be a baby. Unfortunately this doesn't always happen and this is so sad. I experience pre-scan anxiety every time since I went for my first in February and found out that I was miscarrying... And feel so grateful, almost overwhelmed, when I see that my baby now is healthy, because that's really everything!

sociallydistained · 29/08/2021 19:55

@EsseKey that must of been so hard and I completely get your anxiety now having experienced that. I feel a lot of anxiety around it too despite not experiencing miscarriage before. I am all too aware how common it is and I’ve been shocked, relieved and grateful at both of my scans so far to see everything is okay.
My poor friend is over 3 weeks and has had weekly scans so I just keep thinking just how connected she is with her little one at this point :(

SouthwestSis · 30/08/2021 11:16

Sorry to hear that @sociallydistained
Really hard for you to have that experience so close to home too so go easy on yourself.
I'm feeling quite impatient now that I'm 19 weeks today, still yet to feel any movement which I know is normal especially as its my first, but I can't wait to feel it! And still 9 days to go until my scan.

spttc · 30/08/2021 12:04

@sociallydistained do you mean she was 3 MONTHS ahead or 3 WEEKS ahead? Either way is terrible but I'm just wondering. Nervous for my 20week scan now 🙈

sociallydistained · 30/08/2021 12:41

She is 3 months ahead so was well over 30 weeks 😢 she had a super rare condition herself so was under a specialist the entire time so it was never going to be straight forward although things were looking positive. I am heartbroken. I can’t imagine going through it as this stage let alone then.
I have heard they have said goodbye to their little boy last night 😢

Sorry to bring everybody down. Now more than ever I am looking forward to hearing positive news from everybodies 20 week scans. All I can take from this is that we are blessed and I am trying to be positive going forward.

My (delayed) 16 week appointment is this Wednesday and my 20 week scan next Thursday 😬

spttc · 30/08/2021 14:01

@sociallydistained oh the poor woman. And the baby 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 Thats so upsetting. There's no words

Tangfastic91 · 30/08/2021 21:03

@sociallydistained so sorry to hear about your friend. It can make it so hard to remember that these things happening are so rare, when it has happened to someone you know. Wishing you well for the scan next week.

To those that have felt movements, what does it feel like? I'm unsure if I've felt baby. Usually when I'm lying in bed, it sort of feels like a skipped heart beat (if you know what those feel like) but in my uterus. It's probably just my gut 🙈

sjxoxo · 30/08/2021 21:27

@sociallydistained so sorry to hear about your friend… just heartbreaking.
@Tangfastic91 I had some movements in week 17/18 and for me it was like a squirming goldfish!! Like imagine if you held a goldfish in your hand.. that’s the only way I can describe it! Everyone said to me it would be like bubbles or waves but I’ve not had this; only the squirming and since then more ‘jabbing’ feelings- and yes lots at night!! Mostly 3-4am which seems to be his happy hour 🤣 it’s starting to wake me up some nights. I’m wondering if he’ll wake up that time when he’s here too.. I have a feeling yes! Xo

Trinacham · 30/08/2021 21:36

I'm 18w 2d and since baby started kicking a few days ago, I now feel it all the time! DH felt it for the first time a couple days ago. Not sure how to describe it, just feels like a faint kick 🙂 I had a fizzy drink the other day and it was suddenly moving lots! I know what I need to drink before my 20 week scan (at 12 weeks bub refused to move!)

EsseKey · 30/08/2021 21:37

@sociallydistained i have heard people describing baby movements like a fish, a butterfly, bubbles,... All sorts of stuff, I guess it is very personal how you interpret it 😂
I honestly feel something that i cannot relate to any other sensation I know (like bowel movements or gas or other...) so I assumed they are baby movements, maybe! Sometimes they are like tickles, sometimes I could describe it like you did (a skipped heartbeat but in the uterus), sometimes it is more like someone pulling a string in my tummy, sometimes like a bubble popping. I think it happens mostly in the afternoon/evening.
Also, since a couple of weeks I am having small contractions... It's like a rock hard lump, sort of a cramp but it's not painful... Only lasts 30 seconds or so. My doctor said they are nothing to be afraid of but suggested to integrate some magnesium if they become too frequent!

Tangfastic91 · 30/08/2021 21:42

Ooh interesting to hear everyone's experiences. I'm hoping if it is kicks it will be more obvious in a week or two. Excited for the 20 week scan next week Grin

Alle1991 · 31/08/2021 09:12

Hi girls. Just catching up on all the messages
@sociallydistained I’m so sorry to hear about your friend, that is awful terrible news and it breaks my heart.
I have terrible scan anxiety running up to scans or even midwife appointments if I’m hearing the heartbeat.

I think I’ve felt baby move in the past week, little popping/bubble feelings. Can’t be 100% sure yet.

We also had our gender scan at the weekend, I was convinced baby was a boy so in complete shock when they said a baby girl! I’m so over the moon as my partner really wanted a little girl. Both happy as she’s looking and sounds healthy. It’s starting to feel a bit more really now 😂

Hope your all doing ok x

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 31/08/2021 10:26

@sociallydistained sorry to hear about your friend, very sad news.

@Alle1991 congrats on the girl!

Re: movements I've felt weird feelings for about just over a week or so now, squirmy, although yesterday it felt harder like a twinging almost. I've no idea if this is baby, uterus stretching, gastric etc as I just feel there's so much going on down there atm!

expectinglittlebear · 31/08/2021 14:14

@sociallydistained So so sorry to hear that, that's awful! I hope she is doing as okay as she can be in the circumstances Sad

In regards to movements, I have been feeling flutters since about week 15, but definitely more and more so within this past week. Actual proper 'jabs' and flips - almost like that feeling you get in your stomach if you're on a rollercoaster, but different haha. That's the only way I can describe it. They also seem to be all over the place, some low down, others up under my ribs - we seem to have a wriggler!

So jealous of you all having your 20wk scans this week / next week. Mine isn't until the 17th September when I will be 20+6 which is only the week after next, but it feels ages away haha! So glad we had that private one in between a couple weeks ago to break up the wait.

20+5 I meant to say! **

Also, any body else feel like the time is FLYING... feels like yesterday I go that positive test, and yet I am nearly halfway through my pregnancy already. It is crazy how quick the time is going!!

I'm very jealous of all you ladies with 20 week scans soon. I have to wait until the 13th for mine. I did have my first consultant appointment last week but they didn't tell me much that I didn't already know but did give me a better steer about weight gain. I have a high BMI and couldn't find anything definitive about where to aim for weight wise but my official aim is to try and keep my weight as stable as possible. I've managed so far so hopefully I can keep it up.

I'm getting quite anxious about it - I'm not 100% sure if I can feel baby or not and I can only really feel anything right before I drift off to sleep so I'm not sure if I'm imagining it.

@Alle1991 Congrats on your girl!

BobbleWobble1 · 31/08/2021 16:25

@sociallydistained so sorry to hear about your friend

Re movements - I've been feeling random movements for a few weeks but it is my second. I think they're the sort of thing I'd have dismissed first time if you know what I mean. Was surprised to hear I have an anterior placenta again as this baby feels like much more of a wriggler at this stage!

@expectinglittlebear I'm the opposite and feel like time is dragging. I just feel like nothing really happens at this point and I think with having another boy there's less excitement around buying things as I literally have it all and more so I don't even have that to distract me. I also know from last time that although I was lucky to be very well, I never got a "glow" so I have even less expectation this time.

I have my first obstetrics appointment tomorrow. Mostly to discuss the bit of a car crash that was my first birth. I shall be wearing my big girl pants I think as a few things definitely could have been managed better.

EsseKey · 31/08/2021 16:52

@BobbleWobble1 sorry to hear that your first birth was not smooth! are you willing to share your experience, or some advice to those of us that are first time pregnant and need to discuss birthing plans, preferences, options when something doesn't go as expected, etc? X

spttc · 31/08/2021 17:04

Has anyone else not felt anything? I'm getting nervous now as my nausea has gone too. Scared now something is wrong, tempted to book a private scan tomorrow as I feel I can't wait for my next appointment on the 14th 🙈😣
