I would also be interested to know about the additional tests once you get home @EsseKey ☺️ may look at getting some private appointments myself. I would love to go private for the whole pregnancy but I imagine it will be incredibly expensive, does anyone know prices?

On another note, has anyone thought about boundaries they're putting in place when baby arrives? Although I'm aware everyone is going to want to see the baby straight away I'm really starting to prefer the idea of saying we don't want any visitors for the first few days so that we can settle in to being back at home with baby and I can recover a little bit. I also don't want anyone kissing the baby! I know both of these things will upset certain family members but I think we're just going to send a group message out when he's born explaining our reasons!

EsseKey · 22/08/2021 12:32

@Kayl23 sure I will! Although I won't be able (and I am not qualified) to explain the whys for them 😁
Regarding private pregnancy care, I think @spttc is going private in Ireland, honestly i would do the same with next pregnancy if my financial situation still allows! Feels like a good investiment!

About boundaries, I will have my parents with me at home when baby arrives because probably my partner won't be at home those days (long story... 😥) so i need help... But I had to tell my in laws that i don't want them around for the first couple of weeks. They should come all the way from Italy, they don't speak english so they would rely on us for literally everything... Plus they are super sweet but also VERY present... No thanks! It is stressful when they are around in normal situations, I can't imagine with a newborn!
This will be our main boundary, I think most of our friends will understand if we tell them not to come until we feel ready!

It was £5000 for private consultant led at St Thomas's, not including drugs when I looked. I decided to just go nhs on the same hospital. You can pay £950 and stay in a private room though as an NHS patient.

Re boundaries, wasn't planning to set any. Except call before dropping by! 😂 And don't come by if you're unwell in any way. For kisses I'd imagine it'd just be family, and I wouldn't mind that. It's lovely to have kisses and cuddles with a baby, esp for the grandparents and aunts. I know I've loved kisses and cuddles with my nephews, and still get them even though they're bigger now.

Kayl23 · 22/08/2021 14:07

@EsseKey Thanks ☺️ it totally makes sense having your parents there if you're partner will be away though! I think I would do the same!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I never knew you could pay for a private room on the NHS, that's definitely worth knowing! I agree about grandparents etc wanting cuddles and kisses with babies and that's why I'm worried about upsetting people by saying no haha! But I've been reading about the dangers of someone with cold sore viruses (or other viruses) kissing babies and what it could result in and it's absolutely terrified me! But luckily my partner really isn't scared of upsetting people so I'm just leaving it to him to let people know haha!

spttc · 22/08/2021 18:15

@Kayl23 I'm going private but I'm in Ireland. Not sure if it's the same..... €3000 consultants fee (some consultants charge more), then my insurance is covering the delivery, hospital stay etc which I think they charge €1000 a night for private room and not sure on the other fees but all covered by insurance anyway.

sjxoxo · 22/08/2021 20:36

Hello everyone,
Thanks for this thread! I am due 22 Jan 💙 with a little boy! Pretty much half way now which is crazy. So far it’s been quite smooth but I’m starting to feel heavier now and less comfortable! I’ve been having monthly scans as there’s a rare genetic condition in my family but so far baby looks healthy all fine- but big!!! My husband is a huge guy and I am terrified baby will be massive also! Have you guys started thinking of names yet? And how are you getting on with preparing.. I feel like there’s so much stuff to organise/buy and it’s overwhelming! How are you getting organised? Or not yet?? Xox

EsseKey · 22/08/2021 21:01

Hi @sjxoxo! Congrats for your little boy! I am having a girl and we have a name already, since day 1 tbh but we are not sharing it with anyone 😁
My partner is 1.90m tall, baby doesn't look big at the moment and I hope she doesn't become as big as her dad at least until I have to deliver her 😂
I have looked around for baby stuff and I know more or less what I want for the most important stuff (stroller, car seat etc) , but haven't purchased anything yet! I don't feel particularly anxious from that point of view, just doing one thing at the time atm 😊

sjxoxo · 22/08/2021 21:33

@EsseKey awww that’s great you already have her name picked out! We are thinking Hugo or Henry - I like Hugo but husband likes Henry! We actually live in France so need a name that works both here & in the UK as don’t know what life will bring or where we will be in future. Tricky! We do like traditional names though, I worry a name that’s in fashion now will date so I’m thinking more classic but it’s hard to find one that’s not really common or boring!

I wanted to ask you all aswell about how you are finding working whilst pregnant.. I am really struggling! My job is really busy and sometimes physically demanding on my feet etc for parts, I have a lot of responsibility but my head is so out of the game already! I am knackered at the end of the day. Weekends I feel like I should be organising stuff but I’m K.O from the week! How about you girls?? Xox

EsseKey · 23/08/2021 06:02

@sjxoxo those are lovely names! I fully understand the struggle of picking a name that works in different countries/languages... We are both italians even though we have been living in different countries for many years now... so we wanted an italian name, but one that is easy to understand and spell in english too! The name we have now is not the easiest in english but not the most difficult either...
Poor baby will already have a surname which is super easy in italian but needs spelling in english and any other language... 🙄 😅 We also thought of giving her my surname, which is way easier in any language, but I'm not sure about that... 😬

EsseKey · 23/08/2021 06:06

About work, I have a 100% desk based work so I am still working from home most of the time, honestly I am not really exhausted (physically) at the end of the day! Probably I would be the same as you if I had a more active job! @sjxoxo

tinydancingbean · 23/08/2021 07:48

@sjxoxo I only have a desk based job, working from home since pandemic started, but its back to back meetings most days and I manage a busy team - and I’m exhausted by it. I think its from constantly being ‘on’ all day, few rests and lots of decision making. Like you I spend weekends and evenings just recovering - it’s frustrating isn’t it! Doesn’t help that I’m also still nauseous a lot of the time either… but I just try to remember my ‘other’ job atm is growing a new human so its probably reasonable to be a bit tired!

Kayl23 · 23/08/2021 08:15

@sjxoxo Totally with you on the work thing. My job usually involves a lot of face to face appointments but I'm lucky and have been able to change back over to WFH and do my appointments/meetings via Teams. I still just have absolutely no motivation though and feel like I'm just scraping through each day doing the bare minimum! I don't know what it is, the last few weeks I just really cannot be bothered at all, which really isn't like me so I'm blaming pregnancy!

SouthwestSis · 23/08/2021 08:34

I work in A&E which feels pretty much like working in a war zone a lot of the time! On my feet for most of the day and long shifts plus having to wear super tight fitting FFP3 masks for most of my patient/family interactions, plenty of covid exposure thrown in for good measure and the adrenaline rushes of dealing with critically ill patients, difficulty getting breaks to eat or drink. Its not an easy environment to be pregnant in so am incredibly knackered most of the time and my poor husband is now more like my full time carer! I don't achieve much outside of work these days but I'm learning to be ok with that and husband is v.suppotive.

spttc · 23/08/2021 09:14

@EsseKey my husband is 6ft 7 😅😂💁🏻‍♀️ but baby is measuring 50th percentile. Bang on in the middle. Consultant saying she will be around 7lbs 5. She said u want a long slim baby. It's if they're short & heavy (so wide) it's harder to deliver 🙈😬🤣

DoctorBambino · 23/08/2021 09:19

Wow @SouthwestSis that sounds hard! What a brilliant job though, nice to do something that makes a difference.

We are finding baby boy names much harder, had a girl name set but much less certain over boy names. We quite like Bear but know it's a very marmite name!

I'm also finding the choice of prams, car seats and cots really overwhelming!

sociallydistained · 23/08/2021 10:01

I am a Nanny and really struggled in the early weeks with the tiredness and dealing with lots of children, school runs etc! I am doing okay now and am fortunate that for august I am working part time (usually full time!) so doing 3 10 hour days with three boys. They keep me on my toes and we’ve been busy on days out etc but I’ve generally been enjoying it.

I can see me struggling big time into the winter with school runs, after school activities etc but I guess it’s what parents with three kids having their fourth go through 😂 I find by the end of the day I really struggle to do dinner/tidy ep etc then get home to my house and have to do it all again for myself.

The nice thing is I am going to bring my baby to work with me when I’m back. Under no illusions it’ll be easy but feel lucky to have the opportunity.

BobbleWobble1 · 23/08/2021 10:58

I'm with you on the work thing. With my first, I was in a much more physically demanding job and stormed around like I wasn't even pregnant! This time I feel half dead by the time I get home and that's part time Shock I do think having a toddler is part of it but I still have zero motivation which isn't like me at all!

sjxoxo · 23/08/2021 15:56

@tinydancingbean @BobbleWobble1 @sociallydistained yes this 100%- I do like my job generally but my head is totally elsewhere and every day feels like a mountain! I’m also with clients a lot and that’s exhausting, can’t always eat at the right times etc so that’s really hard too. Counting down the days.. this is my first bubba so I don’t know how it works in the UK as we are currently in France; I’ll be finishing work 27th November for a due date 22 Jan- I’ll probably add on some annual leave beforehand as I just can’t see me managing in November!!

@spttc my hubby is also massive over 2m tall and 135kgs.. I am scared because baby boy is looking big like dad!! At my first scan at 12weeks they disputed all the dates saying he was too big for 3 months, Then I got dad out of the waiting room and the penny dropped 🤣 so we are having monthly scans to measure his growth to see if he’ll be able to get out on his own or if they will induce early.. not sure how I feel about that yet but if he’s too big to pass through pelvis then C sec will be the only choice!

Are your bosses all being understanding & professional? I’ve had a bit of a mixed response to be honest..
also here in France at the moment zero visitors to maternity wards apart from birth partner; and hubby only allowed to some of the scans. What’s the situ for you girls and how are you finding it? Covid adds another layer of stress doesn’t it- I had my 2 jabs and when I told my midwife she was shocked as she said hardly any of her patients are prepared to get vaccinated! We have a health pass system here so it’s so much easier if you’re double jabbed for visits and restaurants etc.

Xox

PheebsJ · 23/08/2021 16:20

Hi ladies, I haven’t been very active on here as I’ve been having a tough time during this pregnancy unfortunately (have had all kinds of awful symptoms!) but had my 20 week scan today which was lovely and just what I needed, the babies are perfectly healthy and growing away nicely, they are actually measuring big! And I can now announce that my son is going to have both a baby brother and sister, we’re having one of each 🥰 going to have to start thinking of more girl names now, we seem to find it easier to agree on boy names that girls! Lol

PheebsJ · 23/08/2021 16:22

Anyone else know what they’re having yet?

sjxoxo · 23/08/2021 17:37

@PheebsJ aw no sorry to hear that but scans are always good to see aren’t they. Yes we are having a boy & I think @expectinglittlebear has put together a list of some girlies due dates & their bubba genders! What is your due date as me & you are very close! I am also at 20weeks this week! xox

expectinglittlebear · 23/08/2021 17:48

Hey ladies!

Sorry just catching up on the thread! We had our private gender and well being scan yesterday and found out were a team pink also, having a little girl 💖 My 'motherly instinct' was right after all!! My DH got to hear the heartbeat for the first time too which was lovely!

Aww @EsseKey, another one for team pink, how lovely!💖

Welcome and congratulations @sjxoxo 💕

I'll catch up on the rest of the thread and update the list shortly x

@expectinglittlebear ah yay!!! That's lovely! And you won the bet.

Sorry on my EDD, it's the 4th Feb, but I joined this board too after being told I might well need to be induced early based on family history of big babies and inductions, plus lower Papp-A from my 12 week bloods. So I've got regular checks from 28 weeks
