@expectinglittlebear thanks so much for adding me to your list! We’ve all got our work cut out haha that’s a lot of bubba’s!! awwww congrats on your girlie!!! I was hoping for a girl at the start as my family’s only boys (apart from me obvs) and due to hubby’s size I thought a girl would be a better bet but hey ho you can’t choose can you and obviously I just want a healthy baby and of course my fear has come true he’s gonna big like his daddy (5kgs at birth! Lord help me)!! Have you got a name in mind?? It’s so hard to choose I think!
Xo

Today I tested positive on lateral flow, awaiting a home-delivered PCR test. First felt like i may be coming down with something on Friday - just felt achy - but tested negative, so thought it must be start of a mild cold. Then a colleague tested positive, so thought I'd do another today. DH positive today aswell, completely asymptomatic.

Re: work. I worked 21 hours this weekend😩, and that's after a full week of work too! I have a job where I am on my feet all day (not customer or patient facing, only mixing with colleagues) so think I'll be taking maternity as soon as I can. Probably feeling particular exhausted at the moment because of the above though! Just goes to show how minor and sneaky covid can be for some.. so it so easily spreads.

spttc · 23/08/2021 20:49

@sjxoxo yeh well like my consultant said it's the width that matters 😂🙈 my baby is looking slim so far. Could all change but hopefully not! Maybe urs will slow down etc it can happen 🤞

sjxoxo · 23/08/2021 21:02

@Trinacham wow that’s mad I totally think go as soon as you can - I’d be asleep at my desk if I were you! I struggle with just a dog walk after work 🤪 also unreal that you’ve done all that work AND have covid- hopefully you will be able to be off work now and recover? Is everyone at work in the UK wearing masks etc? Here in France they are meant to but lots don’t, or they start off with a mask at 9am but by 11am it’s a chin warmer. My boss went away on a buying trip (abroad, flew) and came back no mask in our office when I was about 3 months preggo.. I held back from saying anything but it pissed me off & I think it’s really selfish of people at work (where you’ve got not choice but to be there) not to wear a mask, especially if you are pregnant or at risk for whatever reason. We have 2 bosses and neither of them wear masks even now! It’s a big workplace but still. Is your GP keen to sign you off? I’m sure they will be obliging if you’ve had a positive covid test & if you tell them the hours you are having to do.

@spttc yes I heard it’s the width & the circumference of the head!!! I look at the scans now and I’m like *please have a pea head please have a pea head’ 🤣 I just know he won’t and it will be like a massive beach ball haha! The obstetrician made a joke at my last appt with my husband that they’d do a C section ‘up and down’ rather than ‘across’ my body 😳 it was deffo a joke but I was not laughing!!!

Has anyone had their blood group tested & has a rhesus positive baby?? I had my blood group done and im negative so they did baby and he is a positive blood group- now I have to have some injections in month 6 to stop my body making antibodies against his positive blood group. Does anyone have any experience of this? I think it’s quite common these days Xo

EsseKey · 23/08/2021 21:12

@sjxoxo I am still wearing masks and I am not going where people don't wear them, unless I really need to (e.g. supermarket). It's crazy to think there is no need for them! I am on holiday in italy and here everyone wears it indoors, it's compulsory but I haven't heard anyone complaining!!!

I am Rh- and got antiD injection already due to a bleeding some weeks ago. They told me that they were not going to test baby's blood type and I would just receive the injection again later on in pregnancy... But then last week during the 16 wk call the midwife said that I needed to make an appointment to check baby's blood type so that they know if I have to receive the anti D injection or not... She had no explanation on this different approach 🤷‍♀️ i don't mind honestly, it's just weird 😅

spttc · 23/08/2021 21:23

Awww no @Trinacham 😬🙈 so sorry to hear. I know mask wearing has lifted for the most part in the uk so it's very difficult for all of you there. My heart goes out to you 😞 hopefully it doesn't affect you too badly

@sjxoxo I'm not in the uk either! I'm in Ireland. Masks are still mandatory here indoors. Thank god! There's no shows or concerts or anything indoors either. You have to be fully vaccinated to eat in a restaurant etc. Id say masks will be worn here into next year. I'm happy with it 🤷🏻‍♀️😷

Trinacham · 23/08/2021 21:29

@sjxoxo funnily enough as soon as I saw the positive line I thought.. now I can have some time to rest! Rather than uh oh.. which I think really says something! I do need a break. My workplace is very strict on mask wearing. Even before covid, we had to wear masks (proper safety FFP masks not the flimsy blue ones) most of the time, as we work with chemicals.
I know how irritating that is, with the colleagues who don't take mask wearing seriously.. I don't blame you!
I haven't thought about a being signed off. Something I might consider asking the GP about. I was growing concerned with the amount of positives at work. There's only so much protection masks and distancing gives you.. but when you're 30+ people crammed into one building, I think its inevitable. I'm sort of glad I had it now, rather than the 3rd trimester.. as I should have the antibodies for the rest of the pregnancy.

SouthwestSis · 23/08/2021 21:34

Oh no @Trinacham, had you managed to get both jabs yet?
Hope it won't be too severe and you get through this unscathed. Take care of yourself and have a low threshold for seeking advice and medical review!
I wish the UK hadn't lifted all the restrictions, cases are persistently high and I'm so fed up of everyone thinking the pandemic is over when there are still hundreds of people dying from covid every week. It's mad.

Trinacham · 24/08/2021 06:36

@SouthwestSis no jabs. I had been debating whether to or not, but after knowing so many people personally who have had side effects (although AZ specifically) still months after having their first jabs, I was too frightened to risk it when pregnant. DH's friend is a nurse who has had covid twice, and his pregnant wife is not getting jabbed.. who is obviously at high risk - a lot of people are obviously wary! It is hard to know what to do for the best. I am on day 5 now of thinking I had a cold coming on.. so hoping it continues to be mild. I asked for the antibody test, so I'll be able to see how protected I am for the rest of the pregnancy.

spttc · 24/08/2021 08:55

@Trinacham I guess you choose one risk or the other..... Covid vs Vaccine. No one is getting out of this 100% risk free. Hopefully all works out ok & it stays mild etc etc! Mind yourself.

For all those ladies still deciding or those who already chose vaccination....The FDA has fully approved the Pfizer vaccine for use in all people pregnant and otherwise👌 Not just emergency use but fully approved so they're very confident. And there's tonnes of studies done on pregnant women and all have come back perfect. @drsarahjmurphy on Instagram has details of those, and @drvickyodwyer (who is my consultant actually 😁). But there's loads of information out there in case anyone is still deciding. God....it's a scary time to be pregnant 🙈🙈🙈 only what 23 weeks to go! 😅

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 24/08/2021 09:00

@Trinacham hope you feel better soon!

@spttc it's funny, I've had really ambiguous advice from healthcare providers. Was told last week by my midwife that they don't know the potential effects and so cannot advise on the vaccine. I hadn't even asked her - had to interrupt and tell her I had my 1st jab a week before. Would be better if there was consistent advice I reckon. Nervous as I've only had one jab and have a huge wedding to attend shortly, with people flying in, and I'm guessing limited distancing

Trinacham · 24/08/2021 09:01

@spttc exactly - it is a gamble. Nobody knows for sure which is the best solution.. and thankfully most people who catch covid will be fine, and most people who get vaccinated will be fine. It just sucks for us all that this pandemic has happened at the time we were growing our families and that we have to make these tough decisions. I don't judge anyone either way whether they choose to have it or not.

Trinacham · 24/08/2021 09:03

Thank you @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 x

spttc · 24/08/2021 09:29

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I actually find that negligent on their part. Really it's mad at this stage with all the data. We know for a fact Covid can have a detrimental affect on pregnancy & the unborn. No evidence of the vaccine having any affect on the unborn or pregnancy. Definitely get your 2nd jab ASAP! 💪❤️ or don't go to the wedding! You'd be mad going to the wedding unvaccinated. That's my advice anyway. That poor unfortunate 35 year old in Belfast who died the other day. Newborn daughter baptized at her funeral. Just heartbreaking.

@Trinacham exactly everyone is trying to do the right thing. And it is very scary. Took me weeks & a lot of reading to decide.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 24/08/2021 10:43

@spttc I have to go I'm maid of honour, and they won't let me have the second vaccine until I've had an eight week gap so 🤷‍♀️ I am feeling a bit more protected with one vaccine. And I am also out and about working in London, so coming into contact with people, so it's not like I can stay home and isolate.

Mostly desk job though, those I read about working in a&e, that sounds very intense and no wonder you're knackered!

spttc · 24/08/2021 10:59

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Oh god 8 weeks! Its 3-4weeks gap here. That's mad. I guess you just have to do your best in the situation you are in. Really difficult.

Yeh I feel for pregnant teachers aswell going back. Primary especially. Room full of unvaccinated children who don't understand distancing etc 🙈 secondary isn't too bad they're vaccinating kids 12+ here at the moment & they also wear masks in school over 12....so 2nd level schools won't be as bad.

EsseKey · 24/08/2021 11:06

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 try to get your vaccination sooner. I know a bunch of people who managed to have it before the 8wk mark (as long as it is 3-4 weeks, as indicate by Pfizer itself)... Push it and try different vaccination centres if necessary, you may be lucky!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 24/08/2021 11:55

@spttc and @EsseKey was told eight weeks because I'm pregnant. My partner got his with a four week gap. I've called a couple on walk ins up also, and they've said the same boo

EsseKey · 24/08/2021 12:28

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 never heard of this! 😱 If anything you should get it earlier rather than later because you are pregnant 🤷‍♀️
Anyway, I hope you manage to stay safe!! I am sure that people will understand if you prefer not to hug/kiss or stay too close to people since you are pregnant (they should respect it anyway, but pregnancy always makes a good excuse ahah) xx

I have to travel to the netherlands tomorrow for a hen do and a wedding (I am one of the bridesmaids)... I am fully vaccinated but still I don't like 100% the idea of travelling and mixing with people... Especially as the Netherlands are SUPER relaxed (and have always been) in terms of covid prevention measures (masks, distancing etc)...🤐

thecapitalsunited · 24/08/2021 13:11

8 weeks is the official gap between doses in England and the walk ins that were doing smaller gaps have been told to stop. The gap was set because the data from other vaccines suggested was that a longer gap would provide better protection and there has since been data to support this position.

I agree that any suggestion from health care professionals that there is any kind of doubt around whether getting the vaccine is the right choice is negligent. We have the data, it's quite clear that the vaccine is the less risky option for the vast majority of pregnant women. The Chief Midwife and the RCOG are quite clear that women should being being advised to get jabbed ideally completing the course before they enter the third trimester when the risks from covid are higher. The FDA in the US have totally approved Pfizer now for all adults including pregnant women.

spttc · 24/08/2021 14:25

@EsseKey yeh it's hard isn't it. Even vaccinated. But there have been 0 cases of still birth in vaccinated women, 0 deaths, and according 0 vaccinated pregnant women hospitalized for Covid in Ireland (I only have Ireland data 🤷🏻‍♀️😂). It by no means means you are bullet proof, you aren't. But if you do pick it up on that trip it will likely be very mild 🤞 you can only do your best!

spttc · 24/08/2021 14:34

@thecapitalsunited yeh I saw that "sweet spot", they made the decision here that due to delta they didn't want to leave people vulnerable that long basically. The difference also wasn't enough to warrant the wait apparently. I was looking up the difference but couldn't actually find the data. I'd love to know is it like a 1% difference if you wait longer or what. Does anyone here have the study? They're starting boosters here now so I think that's the plan to boost protection if it waivers after the 6-8 month mark. I think people should be given the choice between a longer or shorter gap especially if they are vulnerable i.e. pregnant or have an underlying condition. Then they can opt in for a booster if they need to! Oh it's all a minefield 🙈🙈🙈

EsseKey · 24/08/2021 15:07

@spttc
I am not super worried about catching covid for myself or the baby, as you said the risk is never zero but I know the likelihood of serious consequences for us is low thanks to the vaccine! I have also lived for 10 days under the same roof of a positive symtpomatic person (my partner... For a few days also sharing the bed 😱) and still managed to remain negative 😅 so I should really give a pat on the shoulder to my immune system 😜 it's just the idea of being in the middle of people who behave a certain way during a pandemic that I don't like!

spttc · 24/08/2021 15:14

@EsseKey OMG that's crazy u stayed negative under the same roof 😂😂😂 u have experience then in distancing while technically being in close proximity 😅😅

EsseKey · 24/08/2021 15:24

@spttc I was reading some studies that found statistical association between O- blood type and low risk of covid infection... Not sure there is already a valid hypothesis on the reasons of that, but I found it super interesting, and anecdotally amongst my family and friends no one with this blood type got covid even when exposed 😱😅
