@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thanks, yes I can imagine how the yoyo one could be very useful in the tube etc. It seems brilliant and I have heard brill reviews, but probably doesn't check the right boxes for us!
Thanks anyway for your suggestion (and your sister's - definitely we will need to take into account the travelling&airport bit!)

EsseKey · 16/08/2021 14:33

@spttc i would be happy to have a "plastic crap-free" support group 😂
I know that many people also do a baby wishlist on amazon or similar so that people can check what is actually needed. Not sure if I will make one, but maybe it is not a bad idea, especially since most of my friends and family do not leave close by and purchasing something on the internet will be much easier for everyone! Honestly I don't care too much for presents but I understand that people like doing it to show love and support 🥰

spttc · 16/08/2021 14:40

Yeh my sister in law did that. She's American and lives in the states. It was great for us. We bought her dream crib for her & she was over the moon and it was so handy for us to just choose off a list. It's not as common place here (not in Ireland anyway) but I 100% think it should be 😂 if your family & friends are abroad it makes total sense for you to do that. Especially with Brexit as you are in the uk, and they are in Europe presumably so might be cheaper for them to purchase things from to Uk to send to you, no worries about customs etc as not all websites have the prepaid customs in place etc.

Luckymamma · 16/08/2021 15:13

@Trinacham 😀 is this your first? 3rd for me! 1st was due date, 2nd was 2 days before due so interesting to see when this one will be! When’s your next scan? X

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/08/2021 15:25

@EsseKey the list is such a good idea! Its the mountains of crap I don't need that worries me, so that would be a good solution

thecapitalsunited · 16/08/2021 16:46

Like others, I'm keen not to buy too much. Although I felt odd at getting second hand clothes when I hadn't bought anything for the baby myself I did accept because anything I don't have to pay out for is good. I've also been offered a Snuzpod but I don't know if I want one or whether it's just a gimmick.

The big problem I have when it comes to buying anything is that I have no idea what a baby actually needs and what are the non-essential nice to haves. Everyone seems to have a different idea about it all!

expectinglittlebear · 16/08/2021 16:54

@thecapitalsunited I know exactly what you mean. All of the 'essential baby item' lists online are full of things that I really do think, is that entirely necessary?! Hmm

Trinacham · 16/08/2021 17:22

@Luckymamma it is our first! Next scan on 7th Sep - how about you?

Trinacham · 16/08/2021 17:24

@thecapitalsunited I've had my eye on the Snuzpod and think we're going to settle on one of those too. Been told by my sister that I have more second-hand clothes on the way from her friend.. we really won't need to buy much clothes-wise!

EsseKey · 16/08/2021 17:27

I came to the conclusion that many things become essential once you have them, and some might be essential for some but not for others depending on habits, lifestyle, baby's own preferences etc.
I will definitely prioritise stuff like newborn clothes and nappies, crib, car seat. everything else I think i can buy only if I feel like it, or once I see that I really need it 😬 not sure if this is too naive/optimistic😅

Jonesy88 · 16/08/2021 17:50

I’m also a big advocate for wooden toys and trying to reduce unwanted plastic stuff.

In regards to 2nd hand gifts, I’m happy with clothes I know I can wash or toys again I can clean but I just can’t get my head around the big ticket items. I want them new - I want the experience of picking them, the better match to our needs and lifestyle, the guarantees, the assurance it’s completely clean. It’s strange how you compartmentalise things isn’t it.

Luckymamma · 16/08/2021 18:13

@Trinacham ours is 13th. Can’t wait!

Luckymamma · 16/08/2021 18:15

We bought most new for our first, reused a lot for our second but this one, our third was a surprise so having to buy a lot again. I think cot and car seat new but I don’t mind second hand other stuff. We were lucky to get loads of clothes and but from friends last time tho.

babyyy1926 · 16/08/2021 21:14

Hello ladies i was just wondering who else is still taking their pregnancy vitamins? I read to take them for the first 12 weeks and i carried on taking them for a few weeks after but kept forgetting to take them so stopped. Im now worrying myself that I should still be taking them.

Alle1991 · 16/08/2021 21:25

@babyyy1926 I’m just taking vit D daily, my midwife said if my iron is low on my next round of blood tests she might suggest a multi vit or iron tablets

EsseKey · 16/08/2021 21:25

@babyyy1926 hi! I am still taking them, mainly because I still have a full box and don't want to waste it, i forget about it from time to time but I am not worried ! I think it is not as critical as in the first 12 weeks withthe folic acid. Especially if you have nice healthy diet and don't have other major issues, it should not be a problem as far as I know

thecapitalsunited · 16/08/2021 21:57

@babyyy1926 I’m still taking mine. I know you don’t necessarily need to but after 3.5 years on them I’ve found that I do actually feel better on them. Certainly my iron levels have improved a lot. I’m going to continue taking them until I stop breastfeeding then switch to a standard multivitamin.

expectinglittlebear · 17/08/2021 09:49

@babyyy1926 I have only been taking folic acid and vitamin D supplements since finding out I was pregnant at 4 weeks, and then at 12 weeks I was advised by midwife to stop the folic acid, so now I am only taking the vitamin D and will do throughout the whole pregnancy x

sociallydistained · 17/08/2021 11:03

Also still taking them although I forget some days! I was on a very similar multi vitamin before and it’s just better for me to back up my diet especially as it’s been questionable in this pregnancy so far 🙈

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/08/2021 11:23

I didn't know you could stop them. Have spent a fortune on first and second trimester vitamins and there's a third trimester formulation also in the vitamin brand I'm taking! Would certainly save money if it's okay to cut down so that's useful thanks

spttc · 17/08/2021 11:35

Just had 16 weeks scan. Heard the heartbeat 💓 she's looking perfect. Bang on 50th percentile in size so consultant estimating delivery weight of 7lbs 5 which is my dream 😂😂 I really want an under 8lb baby 😍 But she says it's not set in stone she might suddenly get big. We'll see!

spttc · 17/08/2021 11:38

@babyyy1926 I'm taking pregnancy vitamins. The brand I'm taking has trimester 1,2,3 so I'm on trimester 2 ones. Blood tests have come back great. Good iron level even as a vegetarian.

missbee404 · 17/08/2021 17:33

Anyone else feeling a bit anxious in 2nd trimester? I'm almost 17 weeks (1st pg) still some sickness, stomach sensitive to smells, belching all the time (!), few cramps but not felt any movement yet. Feel like my bump hasn't gotten much bigger in the last 2 weeks. 2 weeks ago friends were saying I looked pg but I feel like I'm not. Got mw appointment next week but just feeling so nervous Confused

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/08/2021 18:09

@missbee404 yeah a bit here also. I don't feel ill or tired anymore, and it's hard to know if everything is still alright. I had the vaccine at the weekend too and got horrible stomach cramps - probably a coincidence but has made me feel even more unnerved

Tangfastic91 · 17/08/2021 20:49

@missbee404 yes definitely feeling the second trimester anxiety. So glad I booked a private scan for Friday.

I'm now in the rabbit hole of car seats. Honestly thinking about going straight for a 0/1 group permanent seat. To those with other kids, what will I miss by not having the removable group 0 option first? I figure baby will be in bassinet wherever we go anyway. What am I missing!!!
